New visit and zippy chicks on a visit to Manchester for some shopping. This thrift store has a lot of higher end merchandise - LLBean, Talbots, Columbia, Lululemon and more. The prices aren't cheap, but they are good for the brand names and the clothes are nice. Zippy Chicks is worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Tried on a pair of jeans that were visibly stained. when I held them under the spotlight, it became very noticeable. I asked if the stain could be removed. The older woman who was in store said that it was the "wash" of the denim. When I said no, that I don't think it is - she pulled the jeans from my hand and dismissively said " then they're not the jeans for you!" Fact. My career is in the fashion industry based in Manhattan, where I hold a rather impressive position. Moral to this experience: Be careful with whom you interact with. Horrible. Based on a few reviews here, it seems there's a common denominator that the owner of this shop is condescending and unpleasant. Unappreciative of customer business. I can't even find the words to describe how I felt walking out of this store. To start- when we walked into your store, we were not greeted, asked how we were doing, or offered any sort of help (which never came to mind until the blatant disrespect started) Then as we were looking for things to purchase my boyfriend did in fact leave some things he was thinking about purchasing on top of the rack while he was trying on other items in the dressing room, which definitely would be an inconvenience if he were to leave the store without hanging them back up. Upon coming out of the dressing room, he came out to you, a grown woman, the owner of the store, slamming the hangers and throwing a temper tantrum about the garments that were on top of the rack (4 tshirts and 2 pairs of shorts). You were making everyone in the store uncomfortable with your behavior, over a few garments hanging over the rack, that my boyfriend was thinking about purchasing. Anything he wasn't going to buy he would have hung back up. After your episode, he came out to the dressing room with two shirts and he was looking for hangers to put them back because he saw you in complete and utter distress, after a minute of watching us look for the hangers you then disgustingly said "I BROUGHT ALL OF THE HANGERS TO THE FRONT OF THE STORE." In shock my boyfriend wanted to just purchase the items to make you feel better for causing you such trouble (over the garments hanging over the rack) and exit but I wanted to leave without purchasing anything because of how uncomfortable I had felt. Then upon checking out and in between the noise of you slamming hangers and your audible moans and groans you proceeded to tell my boyfriend that the correct way to shop is to bring the hangers into the dressing room with you and not take clothing off the hangers before you enter the dressing room. An apology on our end was definitely in order and we by no means meant any disrespect as we treat people with kindness and respect every where we go. You behaved like a child over a slight misunderstanding that could've been communicated calmly and respectfully and my boyfriend would've (as he was planning to) hung everything he was not purchasing back up. Instead you chose anger and left us in complete shock leaving your store. As I said in my prior comment that I believe has now been deleted. My family has run a small business for 75 years and I have never treated a customer as an inconvenience or a trouble regardless of how they acted especially if they were kind people and not meaning any harm. We will by no means be returning to your store ever again and based on your reviews (5 one star reviews out of 15 total reviews, all mentioning how rude and unpleasant you were) I highly recommend the next people that walk into your store you treat with much more respect then you gave us. read more

I bought a cardigan online and had it forwarded on to me so unfortunately I'm outside of the 7 day returns window (not complaining about that!). What I am disappointed with is the cardigan itself. It is very clear it has been shrunk in the wash and has felted. It's very stiff and as such unwearable. I have managed to find another one since and is so much bigger so I know this the case. It's a risk you take when buying online so will put it down to experience. read more

Saw the reviews for Zippy Chicks & decided to check it out for myself last week. The shop is clean, spacious & well organized. There are many racks of clothes to peruse & the clothing is all very clean. Shoes & accessories are also in abundance. There are three fitting rooms in back that made it easy to try on items. I ended up with two cardigan sweaters from Madewell & Max Studio plus a smart CAbi sweater/blazer & beautiful floral coat from boutique brand Go Lightly. I am thrilled with my purchases & will definitely shop Zippy Chicks again the next time I am in Manchester! So much better than the outlet shops. read more

I do not recommend this dishonest business. I brought over two bags of consignments and then moved to Mexico. Needless to say, I never heard from the store again despite sending emails asking them where my money was. I trusted them! Don't make the same mistake. read more

Stopped back in today and scored a great deal on a two piece set, but had no clue the two piece was even on sale for HALF OFF until I cashed out! Would love to see a little bit of clearer signage about those sales because I probably would've shopped around a lot more if I had know & maybe gotten some of the $40 items I saw if I knew they were going to be $20 instead. Their men's section has also been expanded recently, so this is still an awesome place to score name brands for women, but also now another option for men to shop from too, a great find since men's clothing in consignment shops aren't common. Also would've liked more of an interaction with the employee that was there today; got a short "hello" & then no acknowledgment until I was literally right in front of her at the register even though I was maybe one of two or three people in the store midday on a Wednesday in mid May. read more

Zippy's is my all time FAVORITE consignment shop! (And I do a lot of shopping. :)) Even though I don't live full time in the area, whenever we visit our ski house an hour away, I make the trip to Zippy Chicks. Sometimes I don't even go to the other outlet shops! The prices are very reasonable. Quality is excellent. Store is well laid out, clean and down right happy! I went in today and got a cute pair of shoes for very cheap that I am happy with. When I went in it was hard to identify who was an employee and who was not especially considering no one said a single word to me I really wanted to do some shopping but it really wasn't very busy and I would've at least settled for a hello or a smile. I will say though the girl at the counter was very friendly. Maybe just a bad day for some employees so I will give it another go and see what happens... read more

I unfortunately had a horrific experience with Zippy Chicks. Prior to my move cross country I had many items that I wanted to sell. I set up an appointment to bring my wears in to be looked over, showed up at the store only to find it was closed. After numerous calls and emails from their parking lot inquiring whether someone would be showing up for our appointment I received an email stating that they had closed the shop in lieu of snowfall & I would have to reschedule. Now, I'm a native Vermonter and the perils of snowstorms don't evade me. So I understand needing to reschedule due to weather. What I don't understand is not contacting your client prior to closing the store and therefor canceling our appointment. I had to travel over half an hour to get to the appointment & had even checked my email prior to leaving the house to be sure I hadn't received an email from them regarding the snow. So that was downfall number one. As I mentioned before I was moving at the time and my dad graciously brought my clothes in for the second scheduled appointment as I was already mid move at the time when they could reschedule. They carefully picked through and selected a number of things. And when it came time to collect my items that hadn't sold my dad went back in to pick them up. However, my "leftover" items hadn't been removed from their inventory... they were still on the racks to be sold. On top of that the snotty women behind the counter couldn't procure a list of the items that had sold nor the items that had initially selected and instructed my dad to "just go find them". (There was no one else in the store mind you... but she didn't help him locate a single one). This beyond infuriates me. What HORRIBLE customer service. My father was able to find some of my items. When he inquired about the few remaining pieces he couldn't find (mind you he was remembering these based off of his memory of what Zippy Chicks took) he was quite rudely told that they couldn't help him locate the remaining items. Therefor, there are a handful of MY items left at Zippy Chicks, on their sales floor, that they are making money off of and I, their client, am not being rightfully paid for. When I personally reached out to them on the phone about the issue I was very rudely told they couldn't help me and that I would need to log onto my online account to figure it out. When I tried to do so my online account, had, of course been deactivated. I will never do business with them again and seriously suggest others to do the same. read more

Very very rude. I had shopped here and consigned in the past, but after my recent experience, I will not shop here again. The attitude assumed by the owner ( who happened to be working when I most recently went in) towards customers is cold and condescending. There was no greeting, no offer to assist...not even a smile. I understand that the store is aiming to be a high-end consignment shop (albeit you'll find Old Navy items on the racks), however that is no excuse for treating customers as if they are an annoyance and for acting dismissive. You should never leave a store feeling like utter crap. You're better off shopping the many outlets in Manchester. read more

Zippy Chicks has been a favorite place for me to both shop and consign since Ellen opened her wonderful store years ago. She, and all of the women who work or have worked for her over the years have been unfailingly kind, helpful and pleasant to deal with. The shop is very particular about what garments they will consign and that is what makes its offerings so upscale. I know people are sometimes offended because some or all of their garments are not accepted for consignment, but it's better not to take it personally. Ellen Adams is a professional. She knows fashion and she knows what will sell in her store. Zippy Chicks will either donate your unsold items for you or you may choose to have them returned to you. You can easily keep track of when your consignment term on your items expires and if you call and give them some advance notice they will be happy to spend the time it requires to pull your items off the floor. As far as snow closures and appointments are concerned, we've had a snowy few weeks this winter. In fact, it happens that two of my appointments to drop off consignment items had to be canceled. On each of those two occasions I received personal emails from Zippy Chicks informing me of the need to cancel and reschedule due to the snow. I wouldn't have ventured out on either of those days in any case and certainly didn't expect anyone to risk life or limb to meet me at the shop. And I've been in Vermont for the last 27 winters! (And most of the other seasons, too!) If you're looking for wonderfully curated clothing and accessories, Ellen and her employees have already done that job for you! I just left Zippy Chicks and left there absolutely stunned at what happened. I was browsing through the racks and found a turquoise, button down top that I really liked so I took it off the rack- but instead of carrying around with me like I usually do, I asked the girl at the counter if she could hold it for me so I could keeping looking around, like we all do when we don't want to lug things around so we can shop more...my friend who was with me also had her hold a couple of things....so about 10 minutes later we go up to pay for our things and the girl informed me that, "oh someone bought that top off our website, so it's no longer available." Stunned, I attempted to ask her to explain what, exactly, that meant??? She was very flippant and just spoke in a tone to let me know how completely annoyed she was to bother providing me an explanation...but again, informed me the online order was already paid for it and there was nothing she could do about it....WHAT THE HOLY HELL?????...she was so dismissive of me, only responding in a condescending tone, "It's paid for there's nothing I can do for you. It goes to them." After several attempts to question their policy, only to be shut down with, "I can't help you." When I asked for the manager, I wasn't given any way to speak with her, no contact information or even a day when she might be in, we left. I can assure you I will NOT go back there again. With TJMaxx coming I can get better clothes and service for about the same as what ZC's charges. What a disappointment...What if I had decided to carry the top around with me, would she have come and wrestled it away from me? I was upset at the horrific treatment I experienced, but after reading the experiences of other people it seems like mine was nothing more than 'business as usual'... read more

I felt compelled to reivew after the last negative review. Granted I did not interact with the owner, but I visited last Saturday and the young girl working could not have been any more helpful. She held my items, got my dressing room started and provided me very good honest advice on the items I chose. I have a few brands I am loyal to and I visit consignment shops often so I have a very good idea of what I want to pay. The pricing here was right on target. One on my biggest complaints about consignment stores is that they overprice. Zippy's pricing was very competitive especially on their higher end items. The clothes I bought were almost new and in perfect shape. Top brands, extremely neat and well organized. I am almost sorry I passed on an amazing pair of cowboy boots! read more
