I've been coming here for quite some time! I've usually been seen by Michelle back when their location was in truckee by coffee bar. I was still a dyed brunette at that time, and Michelle helped me keep it looking fresh and a deep color! I've never boxed my hair, thanks to stylist friends whom I'm sure would hunt me down if I did lol! That being said, having never box dyed made my transition back to my natural blonde a breeze! This time I worked with Shannon! She was able to bring it back in a natural aspect where as I washed it would lighten and as I grow it would look natural! Which was rad! Not going to lie - I had a disastrous hair coloring experience not too long ago. I don't really like to spend so much money on things like this, but let's face it, this is not something you can do on the cheap and I'm not coordinated enough to do this at home. And then we were in the middle of a horrible blizzard and a drive to Reno or Carson City was pretty much too dangerous to do. Fortunately, Zoe Jane was able to take me in at the last minute and the miracle worker named Jessica took control of my disaster and turned my hair into flowing, silky, appropriately colored tresses that made me smile with happiness. I would pay her just to do that head massage during the shampoo! Lord, that felt tingle-me-good. So yes, I blew my budget here, but it was well worth every penny. I put off writing this but my experience was a little strange here. I was bleaching my hair at home for years, it was one color allover and I was bored of the same look and wanted to try something new. I wanted to add highlights or dimension and didn't want to take the risk of doing the process myself. I'm not a professional and I had some problems that needed to be fixed, including banding and toning so I would have had to have a color correction first. I also had some breakage and dryness, which got worse after moving to Tahoe. Part of why I wanted to go to a salon was because I wanted recommendations for the color tone and highlight technique. The tone I already had was faded, but when coloring/toning at home it is hard to choose a shade that is flattering for the skin tone and it's hard to know what it will look like on the actual hair, since box photos are the only reference. In the past I struggled with colors that didn't match my undertone and there is the issue of timing and developer which influences the final result. And because my hair wasn't in the best condition I didn't want to just show some random picture without knowing if it was attainable or not. I knew I wanted dimension but I also wanted a recommendation from a professional for the technique since there are so many of them. Honestly not being a professional it's hard to look at photos of highlight techniques and see the difference between a lot of them. I looked at photos of highlights I liked which I showed the hairdresser and I knew I wanted my blonde to be corrected with a toner. I had a consultation and scheduled an appointment for a color correction, which would be three weeks later. I gave them my credit card which they charge for no-shows and cancellations. The week before my appointment I wanted to double check the time, but when I looked at my texts, emails, and Vagaro account, I could not find a reminder. So I called the salon to check. The receptionist said there was no record of my appointment. I had already scheduled this with my work, and requests have to be made two weeks in advance so at this point it was too late to make another. If I hadn't double checked in the first place, I would have taken time off work and shown up for an appointment that didn't exist. I asked if my appointment was cancelled but she said it was probably just a mistake. She booked a different appointment for me, which was supposed to be the day before the original one. But after some consideration, I cancelled the second appointment on Vagaro. I already had some regrowth during the consultation but the appointment wasn't supposed to be too far off from the normal touch up time frame. But I do remember the hairdresser saying the original appointment was the first one she had available, and she would let me know if anything sooner came up due to cancellations. But she didn't, which made me wonder if the new appointment allowed enough time for the process, which could be 3-4 hours. I also wondered if she decided to cancel it, I'm not entirely sure. I didn't want to show up again just to realize the appointment wasn't possible or I wasn't welcome there in general. I also would have had to leave work early if I was on the schedule. I understand the penalties for no-shows and cancellations and rules clients have to follow but in this case the same standards don't seem to be held for the salon. And no, I didn't expect them to move or cancel another appointment for me, I get that it's a lose-lose situation either way. I was willing to pay extra for the convenience of the service being local but I ended up going to a different salon in Reno. read more

Hey! So I texted jenn on Instagram and I told her I had my hair dark and that I used a boxed hair color that I got on Sally but I wanted to go blond again so she accepted and we made an appointment. When I got there she took a look at my hair and decided to start dying my hair and after probably 5 aluminum foil she founded out my hair was burning and turning green so she washed it out and put a toner back to my dark hair and still charged me $140.00 dollars!!! So be careful because she will make a mistake and still charge you!!! read more

Okay I found a new favorite place in Truckee! I had procrastinated for about two years on getting my hair cut. Big mistake. It was getting so damaged at the ends that it was getting ultra tangled and coming out in clumps. Finally I saw Zoe Jane on Yelp. Amazingly, I was able to get an almost next day appointment. It was so easy to book online which is something that is important to me and rare with salons. They were also offering a discount. Many salons have tried to "mark up" my haircut price because my hair is long. This is annoying to me because I seriously only want the ends trimmed off. I do not want to sit there for 1.5 hours as has happened many times, for such a simple cut. Well I couldn't find parking so I was late and it didn't matter at all. Jen actually listened to me, did a quick shampoo and a super quick and clean cut and dry. My hair looked and felt smooth and shiny and it took all of maybe 30 minutes. Then I paid exactly what they quoted online and no attempt to "mark it up" for long hair. Which is cool because really I just want a trim. Jen is maybe the first stylist actually to listen to what I want! So they get five stars and I look forward to my next trim. Before I start the review - I'm a San Francisco transplant, figuring out where to go in the Reno-Tahoe area for things. Zoe Jane is without a doubt one of my favourite places. I have long blonde hair, which by default makes commitment to a new stylist an undertaking. The reviews for Zoe Jane were tip-top, so I gave it a shot. I've had the best salon experiences with them - the folks are always attentive and friendly, and keep a mellow atmosphere. Best of all and most importantly, I walked out of the salon feeling better about my hair than I had in years: fantastic highlights, and several months between appointments with no brassy tones wearing through. I also had my first Brazilian blowout here - adios to hairdryers and fussing with curly hair for about 2 months. A super quick and easy spritz/blowout procedure following a coloring. I'd recommend this team to anybody. Pro-tip: there are always dudes in the salon getting a cut, so if you're a guy looking for a spot, they're pretty popular with men as well. read more

She does fabulous work, quick and competent (believe me, I have a TON of hair) and best of all, it's a Truckee salon with Reno prices! Seriously, I paid the same as I did in Reno. Balayage isn't cheap, but it's an art--she hand paints pieces of your hair, it's that soft, sun-kissed look every woman wants, with no stripey highlights!
