I have played Zogsports in New York City now for close to a decade. Side by side with other leagues I have played in (the Chinatown soccer league, Urban Professionals basketball, Chelsea Piers basketball, and more), Zog is hands down the best there is. Here's why: Im competitiive. I was a multi-sport athlete in college (I played soccer, basketball, and tennis), so needless to say once I left school and moved to NYC I wanted to find a sports league that had multiple sports, all of which were at my level. Zog is certainly the right place if you play a variety of sports, and definitely has enough levels of play for every type of player. I also want to have fun. Not only is the competitiveness at a good level, but the people are solid too. In other leagues (like Chelsea Piers), you get a lot of chest pumping and trash talking--I cant stand half of the guys there. Most Zoggers are there to be competitive, but have fun while they do it. There's a certain kind of player at Zog, and they are the positive, fun players, not the psychos. I've made many new friends through Zog along the way. I want organization and good business. In terms of all the bells and whistles, Zog has solid league organization, competent refs, and everything happens on time. I won't mention any league names, but this isn't true for other competitors in NYC. read more

This is seriously an amazing organization! In August of 2014, I moved back to New York after being in the U.S. Marines for over 11 1/2 years, and really had no friends living here anymore. I have always loved intermural sports, so I searched and found Zogsports. I ended up playing kickball for my first season, and ended up with super fun teammates and had a blast. I actually ended up meeting a girl on one of the opposing teams, and we ended up dating for just a bit over a year. That would not have happened without Zog. In December of 2014, I went to an end of the season ZOG party. While waiting at the bar, I ended up seeing someone and thought my eyes were deceiving me. It was Paul, whom I met for the first time in 2006 in Niamey, Niger in the middle of West Africa. We were both stationed as Marines there for a year along with 5 other Marines. That was almost 10 years before and thousands of miles away, but we now found ourselves drinking beers and reminiscing all because of Zog. read more

ZogSports is amazing! It is what completes my weekends! They are very organized, so all you gotta do is show up and play! The best part is your playing for a charity. SO you get to stay active, have fun and do this all for a charity that you want! Had alot of fun during my time playing kickball with Zog in Brooklyn and then Roosevelt Island after trying a different NYC league for a few seasons. Made friends with a great group of people in the RI league that I stuck with. Unfortunately the prices have gone up way too much over the last couple of years making it not worth it for me to continue. I live on Long Island and loved coming to NYC on Sundays for this, but my team no longer plays in part due to the prices going up. Another gripe I had was the fact that when signing up, you can't select what size shirt you want. I played in the league from 2008-2017 and I will never understand why this has never been an option. It's probably a petty gripe but if part of our registration fee includes a shirt, we should at least be able to choose a size. read more

Became a member as a free agent, after several emails was told I would receive a welcome email and the season started on the 18th. Never received the welcome email but decided go go online and look at the schedule to which if said I had a game last night. Then called zog and they told me the schedule was wrong and the season didn't start until the 25th. Received an email this am from a teammate that they did in fact have a game last night. How can the personnel at zog sports be so wrong?? This is my first and last time with them. I do not recommend them read more

I've made more great professional connections, not to mention FRIENDS, playing Zog the last 3 years than all the networking events I've attended in the city combined. The previous reviewer really reviewed his team, the area (NJ state) and different kinds of sports but not really the company ZogSports NJ. May be, he was hired by the company or offered a gift certificate for writing a first (and positive) review? I would only give 1 star to ZogSports NJ because 1. It is poorly organized. In fact, nobody checks ID. People gather and play and pretty much organize themselves. Again, referee is part of the game and nothing to do with organizing the event itself. 2. An example event being held at Edge wrestling gym in Hoboken. If you are a female player, you certainly feel unwelcome because you don't have equal access as males in using the bath rooms. Of course, its breaking the law, buts who is watching, right? 3. The venues do not provide any lockers. So, pray that your keys, wallet, handbag etc will stay put as you keep playing in the team. Again, its not something ZogSports NJ worries about because they don't lose anything if you lose your personal items. They're not liable. (It makes me wonder which stupid insurance company underwrote their professional liability insurance) Overall, the company does not have necessary infrastructure to organize sporting events in NJ while obeying state and federal laws. (I did contact the company to report these issues before posting but of course, they will never reply; I am sure they handle millions of events each day) Moral: You are better of creating your own group and playing yourselves at reputable venues. I did a ZOG bowling season. It's OK. It's bowling, so you don't really need anything from ZOG except for a schedule and to pass out and collect your score sheet. I signed up as an individual, and it was tough to interact with anyone that wasn't on my team and there's nothing going on after the bowling to socialize with anyone else. Also, they put 6 people on the team, but you bowl 2 games of 4 people each which is a little weird. So people have to either share a game, or sit out. There was always time left at the end where you can keep bowling, but it just doesn't count towards your scoring. read more

I have played with zogports for volleyball twice and for kickball once. I really enjoyed playing kickball with them. They have a field on weeknights in central park and I thought that was a terrific atmosphere for playing in. Volleyball is good. I play on sundays. The games are between 12-8 i believe and you are supposed to have a mix of early and late games. Unfortunately, each season I sign up, I tend to have 3 early ish games (like 2 PM) and the rest are always after 7. I think this ruins the social aspect of it because I am not really trying to go to the bar on a sunday night at 9 or 10 pm. I would love it if they could get more early games for us on sundays! read more

I have played kickball through Zog for a few years now. Every season, I end up making new friends and just having a great time. We would usually play on Roosevelt Island (which is the best field for kickball in my opinion, plus Riverwalk Bar & Grill is amazing as an after party bar). Zog really know how to blend exercise and competition with being social and partying. (Did I mention that I played in a kickball tournament in Vegas because of Zog?) The games are pretty organized and the umps and refs generally know what they are doing. And the after-party happy hour deals at the designated bars are usually pretty good. Also, the fact that you can either join a sport/season individually or you can join with a group of friends is great. It really gives you the opportunity to either meet and socialize with others or to do something new with your existing friends. Whenever I am in-season, I always look forward to game day, mainly because of how fun Zog makes things. Definitely worth checking out if you or your friends were looking for some sort of extra curricular activity. read more

Great organization for organized sports. Played volleyball, basketball and soccer with them. You meet lots of wonderful people and if you are outgoing you can make many new friends and lasting relationships. They do a great winter overnight ski trip to Vermont as well. I have been playing with ZogSports for over 5 years now, and I love it. I have played basketball, softball, football, dodge ball, volleyball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee and bowling with zog, and I have always had a great time! If there is a sport you want to play you should be able to find it with zogsports. Zog is a great way to get out and get active and meet poeple. I meet so many people and have made a lot of friends thru ZogSports, even some of my best friends now I met on a team thru ZogSports. I join by myself all the time and always get a fun team and great people. I like to join and play just to meet people and a good reason to be active. The zog sports staff is great as well, from the refs all the way to the founder, I have meet most of them and they are all friendly, fun, and really helpful. They want to make sure you have a good time while you are in the league. Not to mention their great end of season parties! I have played with their competitors as well, and zog just does it better. And with the different levels of play there is something for everyone. Weather you are really competitive and want to win, or just out to meet people and hang out at the bar after, I would highly recommended joining ZogSports. If you're scared to join on your own, then you can join with friends as well, so why wait? read more

Quality has really dipped. Can't get so much as a reply to my emails. They honestly seem to not care anymore. Just received an e-mail on a Sunday afternoon that the playoffs where scheduled for tomorrow. Procrastinate much? Basically feels like you are dealing with a bunch of people who are just over it and do not really care about the service aspect of running a business. This season they have achieved making Zog truly not fun. So after literally a decade of playing with Zog I guess it is time for me to find a new league. read more

I'm a Zogger. Ugh...when I used to see people walking around the city with ZogSports t-shirts on, I'd just kind of roll my eyes and whisper "tool" under my breath. ...I'm a Zogger now though, and I'm proud of it. This is a great way to play some sports and make new friends. If you're new in town, I'd definitely recommend joining Zog (even if you're not into sports so much...there are Zog leagues for you). You'll meet a ton of people. If you're a former high school/college athlete looking to get back into your competitive groove, join Zog. If you're looking for some exercise and are tired of running, join Zog. If you like to drink, join Zog. They offer it all. A portion of your entry fees go to charity too, by the way. Teams can select their charity of choice. I will note that officiating could, at times, be a little better. This is a part time gig for a lot of young adults though...so I can't be too critical. read more

I have been playing Zog Sports since 2008. I joined in the hopes of meeting like minded people, wanting to have a good time, while playing competitive sports. The very first season playing Zog Sports, I met a great group of people and now call them some of my closest and best friends. Then, in 2009, while playing touch football, I met the love of my life. We started dating, got engaged, and in 2013 got married. Zog Sports is an amazing place to meet new friends. I constantly run into people all of the city. In this massive city, Zog Sports has made it almost feel like a small town to me. I would highly recommend the organization to anyone looking to have a good time, wants to get active, and who may want to meet amazing people in the process. read more

Your mileage may vary based on your needs and the sport you signed up for. Keep in mind I've only played one season (soon to be two) of casual kickball. Slightly disorganized company, but a very fun product. First, let's get the bad out of the way: Though there are some friendly referees, I also encountered a few that were extremely uninterested in being there or downright rude (one cut our game short just because she felt like it). Some do their jobs adequately; others won't even announce what inning we're in. Apparently ZogSports didn't do the scheduling right, so my team ended up playing a "fake team" during one game. I think this situation could have been avoided by having more small teams instead of the status quo of few large teams. On that note, teams are about 16 people, which is too large in my opinion. It's going to be tough getting to know everyone; a smaller size might make that task manageable. Equipment wise, not every game had a score board, which is extremely using to know how much my team is losing by (we weren't the best...). Now with the good: I was very pleased with the fields ZogSports used (kickball was in Roosevelt Island, which was convenient to get to, plus the fields themselves were of good quality). If you do play there, try not to rely on the F train--as it often had delays or simply wouldn't stop in the Island--and take the Roosevelt Island Tram instead. I really enjoyed the schedule. Sunday afternoons are generally a laid back time; you'll find most people from multiple teams stick around after the game for Happy Hour for quite a bit. No games are scheduled during major holidays like Memorial Day or Easter. The Happy Hour joint (Riverwalk Bar) had some great specials, plus it was a block away, so kudos on Zog setting that up. Average age of players this season was early 20s (recent college grads) to mid 20s: just my demographic. People are enthusiastic to meet others. Overall, if you value social experiences over athletic value, you'll enjoy ZogSports. read more

Played in the Jersey City indoor soccer league since 2016 and have been generally satisfied until this season. A fiasco from the start. No goals provided the first two weeks. And a referee who showed up in full FIFA uniform, with offside flag in hand too, who wasn't familiar with the rules and claimed he wasn't told anything about them. Made up the rules himself despite the complaints of everyone. After our team and others complained he was eventually replaced with competent refs, but we have two matches where no referee showed up. And to boot, the building was locked on the last match day of the season. Matches scheduled from 2 pm to my match at 5 pm, and no notification at all about the issue. I and a couple of my teammates travel 30-40 minutes to these matches, so of course we were rightfully pissed off. Complained to VP and General Manager, Kendra Hansen, and asked for a refund. Instead, she said their refund policy didn't allow it and credited my account instead. Pathetic customer service. Won't play Zog again. read more

As a long time Zogger (6 years) I can honestly say that Zogs is undoubtedly the most well run, organized, and fun social sports league in New York City! The other leagues are sub par, specifically in lack of quality of the operation, a higher price, and less options available. Zogs is a lifestyle in New York City. It represents a larger being of fun loving, young, and adventurous New Yorkers. Many of my favorite pastimes in the city relate to Zogs whether it be in a game, playing an intense game of flip cup, or through a friendship that flourished from a teammate. As someone who have been involved with the company Zogsports for the past ten years I feel like I am highly qualified to write a review for this Social Sports League. I started with a few friends on a whim playing dodgeball. We didn't even plan to be competitve, we were just really pumped up about the happy hour that is coordinated with leagues. Fast forward to this day and I can say that I have countless friends that I have met through playing the tons of sports and activities that they offer. There focus here is to have fun and to play for the charity of your choosing. There are many different difficulty levels to satisfy a range of skill levels, from beginner to hardened veterans. The best part is the happy hour where you get to mingle with the teams that you compete against. Great place to meet new people or have fun with your team. Many leagues all over NYC and in NJ. Best Recreational sports league in NYC. I've been playing intramural sports since college (4years ago...that sucks). Since living in NYC I've played in 3 different leagues with the same group of friends. We keep coming back to Zog for a few reasons: they're very well organized, have great locations for games, are accommodating to our team, and have great staff. Jody, one of Zog's full time employees was the most helpful when I went to pick up My shorts this season. He even told me a joke and gave me a shot of whiskey! Tori, the kickball league manager sends out frequent league updates, and really does everything she can to ensure the league runs without a hitch. The refs they hire are fair, and the people who play in this league are the most fun of the various leagues I've tried. read more

Absolutely amazing. I've been doing Zogsports since last September, and I think joining my dodgeball (yes, dodgeball, ladies and gentlemen. At 25 years old) team may have been one of the best choices I've ever made in my life. I've made so many great friends, met so many amazing people, and had so many spectacular experiences. I've been playing with Zogsports for four years and I have nothing but good things to say. I've played with a number of different NYC leagues and always seem to come back to Zogs. There's nothing like playing kickball on Roosevelt Island with a stunning view of the city followed by an after party with other teams. To their credit, what is most impressive about the league is how well run and organized it is. Communication is key in ensuring games go off without a hitch and Zogs does it better than anyone. The staff is always friendly and the game referees are fair and respectful. My team usually signs up with a core group of players and absorbs free agents to fill remaining spots on the roster. Zog is an awesome organization!! I joined January 2008 and have played in Dodgeball, Kickball, Basketball, Football and Whiffleball leagues. I love being an adult with adult keen understanding Dodgeball. The on the court games, rivalries and competition are fantastic. Likewise having a pint or few at the bars post game is great. I can honestly say that through Zog I've met some of my closest friends in the city. It's been amazing to watch Zog grow since 2008. It used to be that I would see someone in a Zog shirt everyone once in a while. Now it's a weekly occurrence. I moved to NYC a year ago and didn't know a sole in the city . I was recommended ZOG Sports to make some new friends and have some fun. GREAT bunch of people who do it and organize it. Besides having a great time playing kickball and softball, the post game drinks are amazing! Each week we socialize with different teams and new energy each week. I've made great friends and even a few fun dates thanks to ZOG. Their social calendar is also good fun from Thirsty Thursday's to Halloween parties. It's always very well organized and the ZOG team like to get involved and have fun with you. I have played many seasons with Zog in New York City and NJ and had a great time. The competitive and social atmosphere is a great balance especially for those looking to met new people. Zog is an amazing organization. Not only has our company used them for organized sports, but we had them help us organize a big field day for our employees. It was a huge success and everyone had the best time! The follow up from Zog was immediate and thorough, as they were open to any and all feedback we had to offer, good and bad (though there wasn't much bad!). Sure, there were certain events of the day that could have been organized slightly more efficiently, but their effort was spot on and it was clear they want to do nothing but improve. A ton of fun. I've just finished my first season for Zog Dodgeball, and signed my team up again for the social sampler (mix of games like capture the flag). When I first signed us up, I accidentally submitted payment twice, leading to two charges on my credit card. They were quick to help me resolve the issue and refund me for the extra team, which was much appreciated when I was fronting the whole thing for my friends in the first place. The games are the perfect level of competitiveness and fun, and we always end up staying out later than planned at the after-bar. I've made new friends talking to the other teams, and plan on continuing playing sports with Zog. read more
