Back when games were in person, you could find an NYC Trivia League game on any day of the week in multiple areas--the hosts are friendly and fun and the questions are challenging and diverse (from Shakespeare to Real Housewives)! They even have league standings and playoffs! How cool!!! What has been even more amazing is their tenacity through these really challenging COVID times. NYC Trivia League has kept me sane with quizzes 3-4 times per week that are absolutely FREE! What a wonderful organization for giving us something to do and a way to virtually gather our friends together. Live bar trivia has been non-existent in South Florida ever since COVID-19 reared its ugly head. I stumbled upon NYC Trivia League's live trivia in Instagram. Back during simpler times, NYT hosted various live trivia events all over NYC. Since the pandemic started, they've been doing live trivia 4 times a week (M, W, F, and Sun). The trivia is broadcast via IG Live and the Google Docs answer sheet can be found on their FB page. I've enjoyed the trivia games I've played. The questions are a good mix of challenging but not so difficult that you feel dumb. The games usually run about 50 mins and are free (donations to support the trivia writers and hosts are excepted). The hosts do their best to give you that fun bar trivia feel, and team scores seem to indicate that folks aren't cheating. I just worked with NYC Trivia for my daughter's bridal shower! Meredith was fabulous. I didn't want to put on a boring shower with women sitting around watching my daughter open up gifts so I brought in NYC Trivia to help. Meredith planned trivia games and I gave her input when needed for some extra questions related to my daughter. NYC Trivia was amazing! We had 50 women and four rounds of trivia and she worked in The Newlywed Game at the end, bringing in my daughter's fiancé in to answer questions. It was a blast! I've been going to NYC Trivia League's bar trivia nights on Wednesdays at the Pourhouse on 46th Street for about a year now, and there are a couple key things that have kept me coming back. First, the bar always offers great deals for the hour before trivia (ranging from a free drink to happy hour prices). Second, the atmosphere is competitive but still very fun and friendly. This is extremely important, since I'm really not much of a trivia savant and go more to socialize with friends. It also doesn't hurt that the trivia guy, Ryan, is a pretty attractive guy with a quick wit. He's great about interacting with everybody in the bar and always seems to have a funny retort ready for when players get rowdy. I also just started going to the league's new trivia night at The Belfry on 14th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Ave) on Tuesday nights. This is a much more laid back scene - low lighting, calmer crowd (although they do have $5 pickleback shots!), and is FREE! As the stars suggest, NYC Trivia League really is "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" Although I've only ever attended Tuesday night trivia at the Belfry, I can say with a fair amount confidence that the quality and level of awesome is standard across all venues. Questions are a good mixture of "oh I know this" and "might as well put down Mickey Mouse" and everything in between, which makes it both fun extremely challenging. At least at the Belfry, there is an intense level of competition as well as a weird but welcome sense of camaraderie. Ryan, the MC, steals the show. He is smart, hysterical and well spoken and puts a lot of appreciated effort into making fun and engaging rounds/ questions that appeal to a wide rage of people from sport heads to cinephiles to history buffs to musicians. I guarantee you won't be disappointed by the experience that the NYC Trivia League has to offer. I have been to the Tuesday night trivia at the Belfry and have yet to go to Wednesday nights at Village Pourhouse in East Village. I have also been to movie bingo at Bottomz Up on Wednesdays. There are tons of locations across the city and they all have a great selection of beers. The trivia topics differ every week. It ranges from rollercoasters to famous Freds to love songs. You will never see the same trivia topics repeated. The last round of trivia involves voting on team suggestions for last round of next week's trivia. This adds an element of engagement into the trivia topics. The competitiveness of the league is dependent upon how serious you take it. If you participate in the league and want to go for the gold, then you will definitely take it seriously. That being said, there are tons of teams that show up to just have a good time and don't take trivia seriously at all. This league does a great job balancing those that are really competitive and those looking for something to do with friends on the weekdays. I'm awful at trivia but somehow feeling inadequate in these games never impedes on my fun. LOVE the music-themed rounds where you guess the songs! Planned a virtual trivia event with the wonderful people at NYC Trivia League for my office and it was a BLAST! Very challenging and unique questions that really make you and your team think. Meredith is so sweet and informative (we planned everything via email and she put up with my dozens of questions and back-and-forth with colleagues), and she makes for an even more charismatic host. Everything was through Zoom and the team captain would enter all the answers via their virtual answer sheet, which you simply access through your browser and share your screen with your teammates. All I really had to do was pick the date, time, and theme for the questions, and they handled everything else. It couldn't be simpler! NYC Trivia League always delivers a great night. I've gone to a bunch of their trivia nights around the city, from downtown at the Belfry and The Village Pourhouse, to midtown in Restaurant Row, and even uptown by Columbia, and they always have awesome trivia hosts with interesting and just difficult enough questions for everyone to enjoy. I find that Trivia in NYC is either WAY TOO EASY or INSANELY difficult and alienating. NYC Trivia League provides a great middle ground. Plus their prizes are cool. I have been playing trivia with the Nyc trivia league for over a year now. It is always a great time. I love how diverse the rounds and questions are. Ryan really goes out of his way to make unique and challenging trivia rounds. Being part of the league is just an added bonus to the already awesome weekly prizes.
