I have been looking for a seamstress in the Antelope Valley for quite some time. Being that I'm not originally from here, I was taking my time and reading reviews before selecting someone. Zoila had great reviews and I thought I would try her out for a simple hemming job. She's very responsive with answering the phone and I asked if she worked on curtains. She said yes, but that I would have to bring it in for her to make sure she could do the job. I said that wasn't a problem at all. I liked the color and style, but I needed them shortened to use between an archway separating a walk-in bathroom and master bedroom. She was very friendly, looked over the curtain and material and said that she would be able to do the job. I dropped the two panels off on Tuesday morning and was told that they would be ready by Friday afternoon. This morning, Friday, I called to see what time would be best for me to pick up my curtains. This is when everything went downhill. Zoila informed me that she had not done the job and would be unable to do the job because my curtains "smelt strongly of cat urine"! At first, I thought she was mistaking my order for someone else's, because I politely informed her that I don't have, and never have owned a cat let alone had a cat in my home. She then went on to tell me that the curtains smelled very bad and that she noticed it right away when she took it out of the bag and that she would be unable to work on it because she has expensive garments like wedding dresses in her care. I continued to make sure that we were talking about the same item because I do not have any indoor pets in my home whatsoever. Furthermore, my curtains were in pristine condition, completely free of any stains or tears. Additionally, they're being used in a master bedroom and not in a high traffic area. I honestly just couldn't believe it. I told her I would be coming over to pick up my items. I was really frustrated and irritated that I drove to and from her place of business to drop them off and to and from to pick them up with absolutely no work being done. With gas being over five dollars a gallon, this was a complete waste of my time and resources and completely insulting. She again mentioned the strong urine smell when I picked up my curtains, I again told her that whatever urine smell she was referring to, it couldn't have possibly come from my home. I believe that Zoila has completely lied to me. Does she take on too much work, as a previous Yelp reviewer mentioned? I don't know. Or did she sit down to the job only to discover that it was going to be more involved than what she realized? I don't know. However, if either one of those reasons was given, I would've been far more accepting of hearing Zoila out. Perhaps if she had told me that she needed more time or that she was going to have to charge me extra, we could have worked something out. But no, they smelled of urine and she wasn't going to be able to do anything about it! I honestly don't leave many yelp reviews, but this interaction has really bothered me. I think it's because of how unhygienic this lie was accusing me of. She just couldn't stop telling me how pungent the cat urine smell was, like I had just pulled them out of a home that should be featured in Hoarders! Lastly, I didn't find out about this mystery odor until I called three days after the curtains had been in her possession. Remind you, I had dropped them off in person, and the whole time she was examining them never once did she refer to an overpowering smell / an unworkable condition. So if you need a job done in a timely fashion, or if you have phantom pets that only Zoila can smell, I would suggest going elsewhere as she will not be able to meet your needs. Honestly, this was such a disappointment as I have been trying to support more mom and pop businesses, but with such unprofessionalism, insults, and lies - I just won't be able to give her another chance. read more

Zoila very sweet lady, and easy to deal with. She acts like she cares very much, but is taking on too much work and doesn't have time to do a good job. I brought her two gowns for my daughter's wedding, and when I got them back from her, I could not wear either of them. And when I questioned her about her mistakes, she just pretended like it was fine or lied about what I initially asked for. She ruined one by using a sewing machine to tack two pieces of wrapped bodice together. They were made out of a very fine tulle fabric. She tacked it in the front instead of the back, as I requested, and when I tried to get the ugly PILE of stitching out, it was too strong with waaay too many loops and it left a hole right in the front of the dress! On the other gown, Zoila did an excellent job of taking in the sides of that bodice, as it was too big. However, her work on the hem was a disaster! I took it to the cleaners and showed them how crooked the hemline was and what should I do about it...and this lovely lady pulled up the outside layer to show me the lining, and it was crooked in the other direction! Horrified!!Luckily, I had purchased two dresses, just in case. I was able to pay the cleaners another $50 to fix dress #2 and was able to wear it at the wedding. But at this point it wasn't a gown anymore because so much fabric had been removed I would trust Zoila to maybe add buttons and zippers, or hem some pants, but please do not trust her with any expensive gowns, especially those with unique designs or styling. She just doesn't understand, draping and construction or unique women's fashion. Or maybe she was just too busy to care? Sorry, Zoila! read more

Zoila is a gem and super sweet. She has altered several mens suit items. Let in and let out waist, hemmed pants, shortened jacket sleeves and taken in and let out suit jackets. She can duplicate factory stiting when needed. All of her work is superb. As noted, she works from her home which helps keep her prices low, too low. Zoila has an amazing talent! I had a custom vintage reproduction uniform that wasn't made right. I showed her a picture of how it's supposed to look, and she pinned it up perfectly in seconds.
