They still got my car back to me in under an hour. Very reasonable pricing, friendly pleasant service. Murph even gave me directions to get back to Back Bay, so as to avoid the terrible Mass Ave traffic. A shining example of a well-run, ethical small business. This is my first Yelp review EVER because the service here is THAT good! I thought I needed new tires after getting advice from another mechanic so I came in to get the tires rotated as a short term solution. The owner checked my tires. He said they were in great condition with even wear and I did NOT need new tires. He was so kind and so knowledgeable and helpful. He took time to show me what to watch for and explained things to me. He then did multiple things for the car. NO charge!!! I don't think I'll go to another mechanic any time soon. I created a yelp account just to be able to share about my experience with Murph at Car Zone. I'll echo the last review and say that here, you get no bull-shit. I've lived all over the Boston area and dealt with numerous small shops and even large chains. For the last 3 years no matter what any shop says I go to Murph to double check and get work done. I live 35 minutes away in Dorchester and it's by no means convenient for me to use them, but.. I will NEVER use anyone else. Head in early, drop off your car, go across the street to the D.D's, have a coffee, use free wi-fi, and by the time you finish your snack, Murph and his team will let you know what's up with your car. Professional, polite, helpful and happy to explain everything for the layperson. Murph and his team are exceptional mechanics and quality people that I'm happy to give my business to and recommend to others. Best in Boston. read more

Saved my day today! Got a nasty screw stuck in my back tire and needed it plugged (of course need the car this week for a few important things). All shops close at 2pm, except CarZone. One time my exhaust system was damaged and he recommended a shop 30-40 minutes north of Boston that welded it back together, whereas a typical auto repair place would have charged me a lot more to install new parts. read more

I never write reviews, good or bad, mostly out of sheer laziness. But Murph and the guys at Car Zone really deserve it. They are consistently friendly, honest, and even generous. They always SHOW you what's wrong with the car rather than just tell you. Every time I have had a leaky tire they were honest about when it could and could not be patched. When they have just patched it, they did so quickly and NEVER charged me. I have also taken my car there for more "serious" repairs. Their prices are fair and they have never tried to convince me that something needed repair that didn't...unlike many other places (ahem, old Mobil station on Fresh Pond). Car Zone is from another time when customer service, honesty, and general good people ruled the Earth. Flew back from the West Coast on a red eye only to find my tire flat for an early morning meeting. Put on the donut & made my way to Car Zone - was greeted like I was an old friend and told to pull in right away. A quick inspection and a "no problem. it's a nail in tread. it will take 10 minutes." 10 minutes later I'm told, "All set, no charge." NO CHARGE?! "Yep, you've already had a trying day." They waved me off with a smile and finished repair. No doubt about it - these are my guys. They should be yours too. read more

I went in there expecting something wrong with my car...less than 15 minutes, all they said was that my tire pressure was off - Murph and crew reflated the tires and didn't charge me a dime. I'll be back for other services since it appears they understand customer service. BTW, if you get a free service from them, I would recommend at least getting gas from the place as a trade-off. It's the same price as Hess, so you're not going to get ripped off. read more

Wow, such awesome reviews! I was due for an oil change so I had to stop in. It was around lunchtime on a Wednesday. Oh-so-famous Murph was apparently busy, as it was estimated to take over an hour. :( I also inquired about my maintenance light that came on, turned out to be nothing. Yay. I followed other's suggestions to the dunkin donuts across the street to pass the time. I came with a book and time passed by so fast that I didn't even realize it had been an hour already. Murph actually came into dunkin donuts to let me know that my car was ready! (I had told him that I would be waiting there). Above and beyond... :) My only discrepancy, if you can even call it that, is I wanted to know more about tire-care (if you will). When to change them, rotate them and if I should get all-weather ones, he didn't seem to think snow tires were necessary and didn't think I needed to change them at all, which was nice I suppose. But he wasn't all that attentive either, his cell phone kept ringing off the hook. Busy man, I suppose. Alas, I wanted his undivided attention to my ever-so important tires! hehe :) Nevertheless this place is awesome! Definitely come by! read more

This place definitely looks shady, I must admit.... but they do awesome work and they are FRIENDLY....yes, I said it.....FRIENDLY! Murph is the man. I called Saturday afternoon last minute to see if they could replace my injured tire, Murph answered and he said to come down right away so they could pick up a tire for me in Brookline. I went there and he looked at the model, He told me he would call me when my tire was delivered and in an hour, he called me to come in to have it mounted and balanced. He estimated it to be $140.... and yes it was $146.25 with tax. SWEET. I will return here for future car problems! It's close to my house too! read more

I haven't even gotten my car back yet and am scheduled to grab it later this afternoon, but I cannot tell you how blown away I am by how amazing this place is. Murph is incredible; his customer service knows no bounds, he is kind, patient, knowledgable, and simply wants to help. I dropped off my car early this morning and was super annoying (I had a billion questions and then called back with another problem for him to unexpectedly check) and he has been nothing but friendly, responsive, and willing. He nicely reminded me I needed my car inspected first (without a lick of judgement!) and he gave me a recommendation, directions on how to get there, and instructions on what to do afterward. I called the team there out of the blue this Saturday morning, having never visited the shop before but having read their reviews on yelp, and I can say that they surpassed even their most magnanimous praise! The staff could not have been more courteous, the job (changing mounted summer tires to mounted snow tires) was done in less than 15 minutes (after a minor wait for the car in front of me), and the whole time my wife and I waited in the DD across the street. To say I am pleased with the service and the value for the money would be a gross understatement. If you have any tire related issues you should, WITHOUT A DOUBT, visit these guys! read more

Car Zone is a scam and I would highly recommend you consider taking your repairs elsewhere. In May 2018, I brought my Toyota Avalon in for inspection and they informed me I should get new front brake pads (~$250) within the next few months. I made appointment for five days later, and within that five days I had "burned through front calipers" and now had $880 worth of repairs. Now, only 20 months and 14,000 miles later, I brought my car to a trusted mechanic and they informed me I need entirely new front brake pads, rotors and calipers for $650. Car Zone lied about the urgency of my front brake pads, let me drive my car off the property, upcharged me for a repair, and did a horrible job with it. Learn a lesson from me, and take your business elsewhere. read more

Murph was recommended to me a few years ago. I'm finally getting around to writing a review. He has been nothing short of incredible every time I have gone to see him. The first time I went in, i believe I had a light out? and he replaced it no charge. Then one time I had some piece of rubber ( can't remember the actual name for it) that dragged underneath my car and along the interstate, he helped fashion something out of zip ties to hold it over so i didnt have to pay for a new one. He is always friendly and patient in explaining my car issues. He's also recommended other businesses that were helpful in case he wasn't able to perform a service or he's given me the names of places where i can get affordable parts. I'm moving back to Vermont where i recently had a terrible experience with a mechanic, I will miss car Zone! read more

We took the car in since it had been over six months since we had the oil changed We had not driven much so it not the mileage but the time that brought us in. Murph explained that the higher quality oil we used lasted longer, we we did not need the oil change until we got the recommended mileage. This has been the only garage I have ever been to where I don't worry about getting ripped off or misled. Murph is awesome and does a great job! Usually pretty fast, very fair prices, and great work. Wow, this place is quite the find. I work in Cambridge and had a slow leak in my tire so I called them up, they told me to come down, and in 10 minutes my tire was patched. Off the charts! Stumbled on other reviews, couldn't believe the hype, but went early Saturday with front-in rattle and flat tire. Already busy, but took the car in minutes, no appointment, fixed minor issues that other mechanics had ignored, replaced spare with original tire. No charge?! soon sent me on my way. Found a nail in my tire and called to see if Car Zone could take me on my lunch break later that day. They said no problem and I came in later that day. They took me right away and found not one but two nails in my tire. They removed both and repaired the tire in 10 minutes and did not charge me. Small location....great service. I'd go back for sure. We'll see if my problem was actually "nothing" that he could see--no charge for this inspection which was nice. Hopefully he was right...but if something does come up I will certainly go back for the service here! I'm updating my review....this place is the best! Murph is awesome. Had a break light on my CRV that broke after my wife backed it up into a tree. Took it to CarZone. Murph told me to buy a part myself online, and installed it for free since it would take him about 30 seconds. Had a O2 sensor go bad on a roadtrip to California. Out of warranty. Got a $400 quote from a dealer in AZ. Called Murph. He said he couldnt believe I was still calling him from AZ :) Anyway, he said I could go ahead and drive it to CA, find the part and get it installed at a local mechanic for much cheaper. Saved me an extra night at a hotel and an arm and a leg at the dealer. read more

When I needed to assess a flat tire, I went here because of the high Yelp rating and totally understand how they got 5 stars. I called in on a Saturday since my tired had gone flat the night before and I had no idea if it was patchable or if I needed a totally new one to switch with my spare. They told me to swing by whenever I liked, and when I came by 20 minutes later the service man came right out, took my tire out of my trunk, and within 30 seconds found the problem (a piece of scrap metal stuck in it) and said he'd patch it right away at NO CHARGE! I backed my car right up to the service bay, he jacked my Civic right up, put the patched tire on (patched with real rubber so it will only strengthen with wear) and put my spare back very nicely in my trunk. The whole thing took maybe 10 minutes start to finish, and he even gave me the scrap metal to keep as a souvenir. Super nice and helpful man, will definitely go back there! read more

Wow! I went here due to the reviews. This is the real deal... It looks a little shabby when you drive up, but don't let that turn you off.
