I have never experienced a more honest and friendly auto center! My battery needed a jump, so I brought it into Car Zone to have them check it out. They said it was weak and instead of charging me for a new battery, they suggested that I check the warranty first. I didn't even consider that! After getting my replacement battery, Car Zone told me to come back and they'd install it. They were so kind and quick with the work. I brought my car to car zone when one of my tires got a nail in it. I was in and out in 20 mins and he didn't charge me a dime!

Today was my first experience with Car Zone. Hadn't driven my car for a couple days, and this morning our rear passenger tire had lost 20 psi. We first went to Sullivan Tire in Watertown (they are the closest tire shop), but they were booked up for the next two days due to the tax-free weekend rush. Hopped on Yelp and found Car Zone just a few miles away in Somerville. They said to come right in and they'd take care of me. Within a few minutes of my arrival they had pulled my car in, removed the tire and found the screw causing the slow leak. Another few minutes and the screw was removed, hole was plugged, tire pressures checked, and I was on my way. All of this for free! When I insisted on paying, the owner politely refused and said they never charge for fixing flats. It's been a long time since I have felt so valued as a customer and received such wonderful customer service. Don't hesitate to give these guys your business, and don't let the less than spic-and-span location or shop scare you away. Rest assured that when I need car repairs again I'll be calling Car Zone first. read more

I would go back to Murph and recommend all of my friends to go to Murph any day. He's an honest man who takes care of his customers. I went in to do a routine maintenance check for my car. He did a full check up, checked my engine, brakes, tires, everything, and he realized only thing new I needed was new engine fluids, and that's all he charged me for. He didn't even charge for the labor. Most mechanics would add on unnecessary charges and not be honest about what your car needs /doesn't need. Murph is not most mechanics. Brought my car (2007 Subaru Legacy) in for a new Timing Belt. Murph suggested I replace some other items at the same time (water pump, tensioner, etc) which is the right thing to do. I know a good amount about cars and was going to have those replaced at the same time anyway, so good on him for suggesting it. I brought my car in before work and it was done by 3pm and the final price was exactly has quoted ($1,000 which is totally fair for this job). Not only that, but as a courtesy for me they took my car to another shop around the corner to get my new inspection sticker so I didnt need to do it on my own time (I asked them to inspect it but they don't offer inspections, but were happy to get it done around the corner at no labor charge). Also I had some old tires in the trunk I needed to get rid of and they disposed of them free of charge. All in all, I agree with other reviews here in that the shop was 100% fair and professional, and will definitely be where I take my Subaru for any future needs. read more

Murph and his team are nice. Labor fees charged is kind of reasonable (quoted $400 for front wheel hubs and bearings + driver's side axle replacement - which should take about 2 hrs). He suggested us to buy the parts ourselves to save on parts costs. (if all work including parts are done there, it would cost $260 per side for front wheel bearing and hub replacement, and $450 for driver's side front axle replacement - total of $970). Online, oem replacement parts would cost around $100-150 total. But since we're pressed on time and he said he's going to use genuine Toyota parts (or "will order them from Toyota"), we decided to let him source the parts (for $570). Few hours later, work is done. Growling noises reduced significantly, but what's disappointing is, we don't see that he's really using genuine Toyota parts. Would give 5 starts if parts used are genuine Toyota's as promised. read more

My Honda Fit got a very, very flat tire. It was a freezing cold day, in the middle of a pandemic, and the Car Zone staff found the nail in my tire and fixed it quickly. I have taken my Ford Fusion to them twice. Once to change the break rotors and second time to get the AC fixed. Both times they kept the car initially to look into it and then eventually said they are unable to do these things as I have to take my car to ford to get them done. I think they just don't deal with Ford fusions. Because subsequently I took my car to a different mechanic and got those things done. Did not have to go to Ford for either. They have nice staff and all but I could have saved time if they just told me they don't deal with Ford Fusion. read more

I was looking for a new oil change place because the place convenient for me by work went under (sears auto). The problem with most service stations is that they are run by people who don't really care. They take hours to get routine services done and they usually have a bad attitude. Carzone is different. It's a family run place where service is fast and friendly. I came here a month ago for the first time for an oil change ($30) and rotation ($20). I thought the rotation was a little on the high side but was willing to try this place out because of the good reviews. I made an appt, dropped my car off, went to lunch and it was ready afterwards. I'm a trust but verify kind of guy and everything checked out. Then recently I ran over some glass or something because I had a small leak in one of my tires. I called up to make an appt and they said just drop it off anytime before 2pm. Again it was fast and friendly service and they patched my tire for no charge. Amazing! While there my girlfriend was asking about adding freon to her car and how much it would cost. Murph said $80 which is a very reasonable price, but then he also said that she could just go to autozone and get a can of it for $20 and fill it up herself if she wanted to save some money. Neither of us has yet looked into how easy it is to do that but we appreciate that kind of honesty as most places want to charge you excessively for even simple services like changing a tail light or air filter. My girlfriend now plans on taking her car to this place for all her service needs as well. read more

Murph & his crew replaced the clutch on my 96 Integra with an Exedy - so far, so good. What blew me away was that Murph knew that the otherwise great Exedy kit comes with a garbage pilot bearing (I had bought a separate SKF pilot bearing for them to use). Crazy that he knew that random detail about a random aftermarket part for one of many, many types of cars they service. My car had been making an intimidating scraping noise for a few weeks that I wanted to get checked out before a long drive. I brought it, left for about 45 min, and when I returned, Murph said "here is your key, and here is your gift!" And handed me a small rock that was responsible for all the noise. I had a great experience at Car Zone. Had been searching for a good auto shop for standard oil changes for my relatively new Honda, and didn't want to continue going to the dealership. The reviews about Murph were amazing so I called, booked the appointment, and went today for oil change and tire rotation. Murph was super, answered my questions, showed me the gasket that goes along with the oil change (that other auto mechanics may fail to replace). He got me in within a few minutes and took care of everything; the other guys on staff were also amazing. What I really like is that they let you know what is going on with your car. And the prices are more than fair...really a great find, and I am so happy to have found Murph and Car Zone! read more

I was having start up issues. I initially went to the dealer and they told me that it will take $800 to change the wiring as they are corroded. I then went to Murph and he did it for free. Murph and his team at CarZone are the finest car mechanics I know. They care about my car and me. My transmission was failing. He immediately referred me to a transmission specialist who repaired it at a fair price. My mileage was dropping. He and Alex showed me where my gas tank was rusty and leaking. He immediately referred me to a specialist who replaced the tank at a fair price. I went to an inspection and tire shop on Beacon Street in Somerville to have my car inspected. It didn't pass because of what they claimed was a "loose left front end." They quoted me $850 to repair it (replacement parts, balance tires, alignment wheel). Because I hadn't noticed anything, I went to Murph for a second option. He and Alex showed me that the left front tire was just slightly loose. Within five minutes, Alex had tightened the lug nuts so that the wheel was now solid as a rock. I went right back and my car passed the inspection. In fifteen minutes, Murph saved me $850 for completely unnecessary repairs. I trust Murph and his staff. He quickly sees and solves problems. To me he has been knowledgeable, informative, clear, decisive, reliable, and fair. When I have a car problem, he is the first person I go to. read more

I was told by a dealership that my front tires and rear brakes were low. I didn't want to get ripped off by a dealership so I took my car to Car Zone based on Yelp reviews. I told Murph what I thought my car needed to get done. After he looked at my car he said my tires and brakes were fine! He cleaned the rust on my brakes, changed my oil, and even took my car for the state inspection (which I completely didn't know I needed to do since I come from a place where annual state inspections don't exist). He only charged me for the oil change and state inspection fee! Murph could've easily changed my tires and brakes (and charged me) and I wouldn't have known that they didn't need to be changed. Being a woman, I've never met anyone who has been honest about my car. I initially showed up without an appointment. Murph was really busy, but he was willing to fit me in if I really wanted to get my car serviced that day. I didn't want to wait all day, so I scheduled an appointment for the following day. It still ended up taking 4 hours. That was my only gripe, but Murph's unwavering honesty definitely outweighs having to wait. It probably has to do with the fact that he has a stellar reputation and he can get very busy. read more

I have been going here for car repair for over 25 years. I have never had problems of any kind. Recently Metrowest Subaru told me my inner CV joint boots were torn and making noise. I only was there for an airbag recall fix. I decided to call Murph- the owner of Car Zone who answered the phone and said he'd be happy to take a look but hadn't noticed anything during my last service. They had quoted me $400. He physically showed me the boots which were pristine. No tears, leaks, or noise. I couldn't believe it! If you want a mechanic who cares for their customers and will tell you the truth go here. I found this place on Yelp, and based on the reviews I decided to take my car there. The guy that helped me was kind. The service that I requires was the 80000 check, he told me it is simple: oil change, filters change, tire rotation. Unfortunately they took the oil back and only filled with 1/4 of the oil tank capacity, I took the car out of it and one mile away the oil and engine sign lighted in the dashboard. I called them, they tow the car back to the place and fill the tank with enough oil, this to me seems like a rookie mistake. read more

Six stars. The reviews are well-deserved. Granted, I had a simple problem, but this place is awesome. Here's a summary of my visit. You can read the narrative below if you want more. --Garage-to-greet time: 5 mins --Greet-to-jack time: 5 mins --Jack-to-diagnosis time: 5 mins --Diagnosis-to-resolution time: 10 mins --Charge: NONE I pulled up to the garage and was promptly greeted. The place was pretty busy, but the technician came over and inquired about my problem within 5 minutes. I told him I had a slow leak in my tire and he immediately asked his colleague -- who was actually working on another car -- to take a look. My car was up on the jack and my tire was off the rim and under inspection in another 5 mins. I walked around to fill my other tires with (free) air, and by the time I got back to the front of the car, the mechanic had found the nail in my treads. He told me to get a cup of coffee and by the time I returned he'd have it patched up. I don't drink coffee, but I went across the street to the convenience store and bought a soda. Lo and behold, my car was being jacked down as I walked back to the shop. The tech said "have a nice day" and I looked at him, bemused. He then said "I'm glad we could help" with great sincerity and walked away. Frigging bizarre! They didn't want to charge me! I gave him a generous tip (can it be called a tip if there's no charge?) and left. Yay. I was in a good mood the rest of the day. read more
