I later decide I am not a puppy person and work towards re-homing him Last week of August: I went to the zoom room to tell a woman employee at the front counter I am trying to re-home the puppy and am looking to either: receive a partial refund, give my paid lessons to the new puppy owner, or give them away to other customers. Wed September 3: Go to the Zoom Room and spoke directly with owner Marc Scholz about a refund because I had just returned the puppy to the shelter. He said he was glad I came in, and gave me his business card (with personal cell # written on it). He inferred that corporate would have a problem, but that he had helped out with refunds before in similar situations. He said he would make a note to start the process. Tuesday Sep 9: After a week of silence, I called his cell #, which was not a working phone number. I left a voice message @South Austin Zoom Room at 12:14 pm. I emailed Marc's Zoom Room email at 12:22 pm. Thursday Sep 11: I sent an email @ 11:16 am to Zoom Room South Austin requesting a pro-rated refund. We have loved our time at zoom room and highly recommend for dog training. We took our young pup to their puppy preschool and it really helped him gain some confidence and also gain some safe dog exposure while he was still getting his vaccines. My intent was to be a longterm customer, but they have now changed the class times twice, without any prior notice. I was able to change my schedule up to accomodate the first change. Unfortunately there are now no times available for me to continue. It is annoying enough that I was not told of the changes beforehand, but even more disturbing is the total lack of responsiveness to my emails. Amber adores going to Zoom! She was diagnosed w/ the hip dysplasia at the age of 9 month. She was in pain, clumsy, and not confident in her body. Physical therapist recommended going to agility classes. We did follow the advise and we could not be happier ever since! Amber has been going the the agility and obedience classes for 6 month already and she became a different dog in terms of body management and control. Classes are scheduled in advance. If you miss the first 15 minutes, you miss nothing that will prevent you from joining the class, but traffic delays caused my husband to be so late that they denied him entry. Just let them in! To prevent disaster they just don't allow any even slightly reactive dogs in the class (since they are not able to handle this level of dog training). -They only allow treats to guide in a very basic "follow my treat hand" and not body movements or other cues that would help the dogs better understand where/how they are being asked to move resulting in slow, if any, progress and very frustrated/confused dogs. I REALLY wanted this place to work out as my dog loves jumping and playing on agility equipment and I thought she would have a blast. Instead she regressed more and more each week into the scared and timid dog she was as a very young pup. She didn't want to enter the building, stopped taking treats in class, and would just shake. In contrast when we go to her basic obedience training facility she's jumping at the car window and wagging her tail like crazy since she can't wait to go in. They also refer to her as the "social butterfly". Oh, and the insane amount of peanut butter and cheese I allowed them to give her trying to follow their methods made her have terrible diarrhea after each class. It can be challenging to get him to cooperate each time (he can be very distracted and excited by everything going on around him - especially when other treats are involved :p) , it's but also rewarding when he is able to recall something we learned together! The only thing we miss are the mini playdates that were part of the puppy preschool classes. I had high hopes for zoom room after attending an orientation. I had mentioned my 5 month old barks at everything but the owner assured me this was just puppy behavior and he'd be great for puppy class. I bought a package, signed up for a few classes and was super excited to start. I show up to our first puppy plus class and he was doing okay. He wasn't used to that many treats at once so he threw some up. As I was cleaning I missed the command so I asked the trainer to repeat. She came over, my dog barked at her (with his tail wagging) and she said that my dog was reactive and we were asked to leave. She said that she recommended private training but they were booked until June. I was issued a refund, but now looking for another facility, since this one is too busy and not willing to allow my dog in puppy class. read more

Ashley the manager is aggressive, confrontational, and would rather the organization get bad reviews than have a customer speak with the owner. Upon speaking with the owner, Mark, he agreed that since I booked a consultation for my *already in training 17 mo SDIT* that I should have been screened thoroughly over the phone so that my time would not have been wasted driving the 40 min each way only to be insulted by an immature shell of a 20-something who said that she was having a "sh!tty week already" and clearly taking that out on me. I told her that I was sorry since it was only the beginning of the week and tried to compromise in options for training, but they didn't sell flat collars. Let me remind you, my SDIT is trained. We came here for an evaluation to have specific exposure/retraining which was not even socialization, but encountering other dogs because Covid has prevented us from going out as often as we had prior to the pandemic. I basically wanted to tweak his training since our trainer was 2000 miles away. Instead we were interrupted while the receptionist tried to take vaccination info by Ashley as to how "they are not the place for us" or saying "this isn't the place for you" (that term makes you feel like the discrimination still exists). After explaining several times that I was willing to forgo my prong use (mind you we didn't even have an evaluation yet), I then said that I rarely even use treats because again...HE IS TRAINED. In addition, positive reinforcement = praise. My wingman loves praise the most from me. He doesn't need a treat because many dogs don't need them. He was never trained with them for the first 7 months of his life during board and train! At this point Ashley just wouldn't have it because she said they reward heavily -again, wouldn't compromise without an evaluation. Was trying to get us to leave and threatened to call the police. Who does that to a disabled person asking for assistance?!? After insisting on speaking with the owner of the franchise and explaining to him the situation, Mark agreed that it was mishandled from soup to nuts and I told him I wanted an apology from Ashley at which which she began crying when he told her to apologize to me because she felt so self righteous and didn't want to do or be told by anyone with authority that she was in fact wrong for her actions. Read through the reviews. You'll see others who felt their time was wasted and they too were treated badly. Look for another place, this is just an owner-absentee franchise. Go to a private training facility where people utilize various training options as they can ALL be positive when used correctly! There is not a single cookie cutter method when it comes to training as all dogs are different. But I highly suggest that you opt for a different place than this facility. read more

We love it here so much! I was nervous to inquire because one of my dogs is reactive and not all places are understanding. I spoke with Emily and she was so friendly and accommodating and reassured me that it wouldn't be an issue. We signed up for some private gym sessions and my dogs had an absolute blast. The area is spacious and clean, and they have toys & agility equipment. They also sell high quality treats and chews which is a huge plus for us. On top of all of this, the private gym is extremely affordable! I appreciated Emily going above and beyond, so I went ahead and purchased a 5 pack of the private gym sessions. Emily Anderson, the manager, has an issue with kids (and their parents). She makes up rules as she goes along, and refuses to teach children without their parents fully and completely engaging the whole time. This is not a kid-friendly place. According to Emily, children under 12 are not permitted to participate in aglilty. They are also not permitted to be in the gym without a parent holding the dog's leash and directly instructing the child. This is not the policy at any other location and is not published on their website or on their orientation paperwork. I called several other locations to confirm the agility and leash-holding policy, but none of them have that policy. Emily kicked me and my son, who is 8, out of her Obedience 1 class. I took our dog for an evaluation and she passed Obedience 1, but since I wanted my son to learn how to handle her, I signed him up for Obedience 1 anyway. My son was so excited to go to the class, and had been practicing with our dog in anticipation. The class warmup was new to us as a routine, but they quickly figured out how to do the exercise. They started out by saying the dog's name and rewarding when he had the dog's attention. Since it was my son's first time in a class, he was a little confused and needed to be told how and when to time the clicker and the treat. Nonetheless, he practiced a few times and then waited for the next instruction. The dog knows her name and had no trouble executing the exercise. While he was looking to see what the other dogs were doing, our dog was slowly walking around him, and largely had her nose in his hand looking for more treats. The next exercise was to have the dog "look" or make eye contact. Emily gave a brief overview, and my son didn't get it on the first try. The dog did--well, she was looking intently at the treat. Emily came over and showed him what she meant, with the treat at her eye. So, he did that once or twice, and then settled in to watch what the other dogs were doing and put the leash loop on his wrist. Emily then demanded I tell my son what to do and hold the leash. At no time did my son drop the leash, our dog get close to another dog, nor did Emily tell him what to do with the leash. I encouraged her to tell him what she wants him to do, but instead she informed me that parents are required "to be present the whole time and not be typing on their phones." She said she did not have time to talk to my son about what she wanted, apparently everyone is supposed to understand the exercise, motion, timing and teach this to the dog, and not need any additional feedback from the instructor. Despite being within arm's reach of my son, and having trained my non-aggressive bottom of the totem pole dog, and being completely aware of what was happening, Emily scolded me in front of my son and the whole class before kicking us out. She was not interested in teaching my son how to handle the dog. If I wanted to teach my son how to train the dog, I wouldn't have signed him up for a class and paid for someone else to do it. read more

The facility itself is good. It was always clean and sunny. We splashed out on a full package of 20 classes, thinking that we could do 10 for our heeler mix, 10 for our toy poodle mix puppy. It was well over $400 if I recall correctly. Individual classes were $30-40 range. There's a mandatory orientation that should have been an email, but it did go smoothly. The owner of the facility personally called my wife after orientation to ensure we had his contact info, which was helpful. We never met him in person at the facility - it seems to be run by a small group of fairly young (first job?) employees during business hours. It took my wife two months of clicking "join waitlist" on weekend classes to finally get into a spot for a late Saturday class. She took our smaller puppy (one dog per person). My wife said the girl who was leading the class would shout out the command for owners to practice with their dogs - "down!" - then sit down across from the front desk and giggle with the receptionist until the 5-minute alarm rang. Zoom Room also puts all dogs younger than 1yr in one class, regardless of size. My wife and our 10-pound Scooter spent the class next to a 70ish-pound, friendly but not-neutered teen German Shepherd mix that seemed to think he was ... on a Tinder date. With everyone. Because the facility doesn't allow prong collars, harnesses, or any other restraining devices - just the basic buckled collar - the petite girl who brought him was told to remove his prong collar and wrestle him around with a basic collar. My wife said that's when it spiraled, and she spent most of that group positioning herself between this amorous hulk and our intimidated pup. When the class leader finally came over and said something mean to the GS's owner, who started to tear up, the trainer took the big dog's "class approved" leash, and the dog yanked the trainer herself across the room, off her feet part of the way, while trying to sniff another dog. I should have listened to my wife and canceled this "hot mess express" then. We decided to use rest of the class package just for our bigger, older dog. Back to clicking waitlist requests. Months passed. Then, I was notified before one waitlisted class that WE COULD COME!! in ... 45 minutes. It was a Saturday, kids were finishing lunch, wife was out shopping ... we just aren't that flexible. I call the facility to get off the list. They said it was too late to cancel (disconnected us twice first) and charged us anyway as a "missed class." They advised taking ourselves off the waitlist first if we had any times when we weren't available. I pointed out that, had they notified me even three hours pre-class, I would have happily been there. A month later, I get notice a whole week early that we got into a weekend class. Thrilled, I drag ol Blue in through the summer heat on a Saturday afternoon, and wait with the other owners. The dog ring opens and we begin to filter in ... then two of us are told the class is full. I can get rescheduled to tomorrow (even though all the tomorrow classes are showing full online) and they won't count this as a class used. My Saturday afternoon is gone, all for nada. When we reached the six-month mark of our 1 year package, we'd been able to fully attend just that ONE class, despite weekly (or daily) visits to the Zoom Room scheduling webpage. But we had a plan: Zoom Room availability is much easier if you don't have to be an employee or a parent during the 8-6p timeblock. We do, but decided to live on the edge for one day. We were going to try: A WEEKDAY DAY CLASS. I booked the 2pm Tuesday Zoom Room class a week in advance (no waitlist!). We both block our work calendars. My wife tells her boss that she will log in that evening to make up the time. We make sure the kids' school dismissal times are compatible. I reschedule my Tuesday afternoon meetings. Since one car is in the shop, we decide who will do school pickup vs the dog training class. WE'VE GOT THIS! We leave in time for a 5-minute-early arrival, then hit some stop lights. We slide into the Zoom Room parking lot at 1:59 pm. SIX MINUTES TO CUT OFF!!! They jump out and race through the Zoom Room lobby door as my phone changes to 2:01p. She gives me a thumbs up through the lobby windows and I head off to the school pick-up line. My phone rings 10 minutes later. My wife is on the curb outside Zoom Room in 96-degree heat. By the time the front desk finished checking in the guy in front of her, it was 2:05, and per the front desk girl, they don't allow anyone to enter a class after 2:05p. She was asked to wait outside so Blue's whining and barking wouldn't distract the class. My wife said there only appeared to be four dogs in the class (this would be smaller than every other class we've witnessed), so it wasn't a space issue. We were done. To the owner's credit, he did give us a full refund. He means well, and can hopefully make some changes soon. read more

Didn't have a great experience.... Orientation: was ok....the instructor seemed annoyed and unfriendly. Woman at the front desk told me to register my puppy for puppy training +....Then when I returned for his first class she immediately told me my puppy was too old and that she would allow him in for today but next time no??? Granted she put him in the class....Just not a pleasant way to be greeted. But I still remained hopeful. Instructor was unfriendly from the start. My puppy came in. barking....My puppy is a Covid puppy...he gets very excited and is 8 months. The reason I came here was to Train him?? By 5 min in she put a high wall around my dog so he "wasn't distracted" or distracting the class. Meanwhile, two other puppies were also barking....It was actually horrifying and embarrassing. She barely gave us the time of day and I could barely see over the wall, myself for instruction. Then she told me 15 min later she wanted to talk to me after class and he really needed to be in private training. Im not arguing that but the tone was unacceptable. I'm only writing this not to knock the business down. But to advise, if your puppy is over-zealous this place isn't for you. Decided to do the puppy training classes to socialize our 9 week old puppy. In the end, he ended up getting Ringworm and currently has been on quarantine for 6 weeks. We were told the facility was cleaned with hospital grade cleaning products, however when going to wipe some spilled water on the floor during the start of puppy preschool class the paper towel was completely black and full of dirt. Try this yourself and I guarantee you will find it true. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting. Check it out. Clearly cleanliness is not their strong suit. (We went during the beginning of the day so there's no excuse) I know that there is a risk in any puppy socialization class, but small puppy parents should be careful. We didn't bring our dog ANYWHERE despite this class, being afraid of puppy diseases. We went to a couple classes over a few weeks. I only give two stars because the owner was very nice and refunded us quickly. We felt obligated to give a review however, as I think it's important to know that although this place acts like it's has little to no risk- but your puppy could end up like ours with no socialization at all. I think their cleaning methods, puppy wellness checks, and alerts to other pup parents when things like this happen need to be improved. My heart breaks for our poor puppy. read more

I absolutely love this place! My pooch is a little nervous about new people and our trainer, Ashleigh completed an observation and suggested a few private lessons and then Agility 1. She explained that when dogs have confidence, they're less nervous in new situations. Ashleigh was spot on! She's also wonderful with dogs and understands the canine/human connection. All of our sessions have been during Covid-19 as well, so that's a huge hurdle for a business to overcome. I've been so impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and their social distancing protocols. There's a wall-mounted thermometer for everyone, (humans) upon arrival. The number of participants per class is limited and everyone is spread out and wears masks. Dog to dog contact is not allowed either. They do a fabulous job with email and text reminders for your upcoming sessions. We start agility 2 this week and can't wait! I'm so glad my pup and I have this wonderful place to go and learn. I appreciate that the structure behind the program in based on your pup's progress level and not on a strict amount of classes they need to take before graduating to the next class level. My Oso has been picking things up fairly quickly since we've been doing lots of work at home and it's paying off! I have however seen an aggressive entitled client treat the staff poorly and I watched them handle it very well and professionally. I would give them 10 stars if I could. Hello, we visited the school during an orientation session to evaluate if our dogs (3) were compatible with the environment. Debbie was the person who conducted the orientation and seemed very knowledgeable about training techniques and approaches. At the end of the session Debbie suggested that we go through an evaluation and bring all three dogs to the Zoom facility. We made made an appointment with Debbie 10 days from our visit date as schedules were very busy. Dec 21st, a work day for me came ,and my wife and I showed up with our three dogs on time. The staff had no idea we were there to see Debbie. In fact Debbie had sent an email late Dec 20th indicating she couldn't make our appointment. It took Debbie 9 days to let us know and it was after 11 pm the night before she sent a note. We were also told that she called my wife but no calls were received. We also received no texts! We were skeptical about the whole situation but decided to give Zoom one more chance however the staff said "we don't know what Debbie's plan is so you should reset an appointment with her" - we didn't care if it was Debbie but essentially we were told to stick with her. With our three dogs present, we made another appointment for Jan 4th, the staff contacted Debbie and she confirmed the date and time worked. We learned our lesson from the first incident and my wife called 5 times to confirm the appointment for Jan 4th - someone finally answered the phone on the fifth attempt. When someone finally answered, my wife was transferred to Debbie, and Debbie informed my wife that we were not scheduled for an appointment. So it happened again! One last try- we set another appointment for today, Friday, Jan 6, 2023, for an after 5 pm appointment. We were told we would receive an email and text confirming the appointment. Instead of calling and calling, we waited for the email and text - didn't receive either. I do not recommend using this facility or Debbie - it is rude to continue to miss your appointments! read more

Where did Hubs, Lilly, and I find all of this? Zoom Room's 2nd anniversary Doggie Disco pawty, of course! For a $10 admission fee (that went to a pet charity), Hubs and I got to solidly put away some beer and wine while Lilly got to sniff more butts than she could ever dream of. How could a Sunday evening be any better? ...now my furry little monster is trying to get me to sign her up for classes. We stopped in last night for Open Gym and had a great time! Michele - who I I believe is the owner - welcomed us and the puppies with a smile. You can register your pups and sign up online but I was having computer issues so we showed up unannounced. There was one other dog there and after settling him in, she gave us lots of personal attention. There is a small retail section, some lockers for personal items, a bathroom, then the "gym." It's not very big, but there is enough room to navigate all the fun stuff. She showed us the basics of the obstacles in gym, talked about safety, and the different kinda of reward systems. She also introduced us to the "box" which is a small platform they use for dogs to have a "timeout." Genius. They have a large A frame, a "dog plank," a tube, a hoop, an adjustable hurdle, teeter-totter, and more. They also have a wheelchair, a walker, and an IV pole for training. As much fun as our boys had goofing off in Open Gym, I get the impression is this a pretty serious training facility - for basic training, special needs, agility, tricks, etc. This gem is hidden away in the semi abandoned Northcross area, but definitely worth hunting down. Dog parks are fun - but it's friggin hot outside. Totally worth the $10. Tip: You can buy little treats there, but if you'd rather not, make sure to bring your own! read more

Okay, so I've only gone to orientation, I've scheduled my private 1-on-1 training sessions w my puppy. But i'm giving five stars because I went to orientation and was asking questions after, and they gave me very simple instructions to try with my puppy until our lessons- and it's already completely changed my walks with my dog. He went from totally reactive- aggressive barking and unable to listen- to I just took him on our SECOND walk, enforcing what the trainers told me- and he did not bark once. Even when another dog started doing so which is a HUGE trigger for him. I'm already so happy and I haven't even started the training sessions! I have taken my dog Maya to Zoom Room Austin for over 10 classes now (mixture of Agility 1 and Obedience 2) and have absolutely loved and grown from every one of them! -- Side Note: I noticed that one of the only poor reviews on this Yelp is from a mother regarding her displeasure that her 8-year old son was asked to leave the group class. I just want to say THANK YOU to the instructor who requested they leave. I love kids, I love dogs, and I especially love kids who love dogs - but there is a common sense requirement that in a group training session, the handler must be able to have total control of their dog - little kids typically just can't do that. A child once participated in a group class I was in at Zoom Room and it definitely slowed down the pace of the class and added stress because children cannot consistently control their dog or take fast direction like adults can. Thankfully, in that particular class, the parent was responsible enough to acknowledge that her child wasn't ready for group classes and she took over while he sat and observed for the rest of class. -- Okay back to my review: I've worked with at least 3 different instructors between Agility 1 and Obedience 2 so far and have no complaints about any of them. My dog, Maya, came to Zoom Room as a sweet but timid dog and I really struggled to keep her focus. After about 10 classes, Maya's confidence has hugely increased and her focus continues to improve after each and every session. I leave every session feeling really proud of us as a team. I rarely write reviews for things, but I felt compelled to given the wonderful experience we've had going to Zoom Room Austin since mid-January 2020. My husband and I got a new puppy in early January and were quite nervous about making sure to properly socialize him at such a critical age during the pandemic. Zoom Room offered exactly what we were looking for with its Puppy Preschool classes, and had great COVID safety processes in place. This offered the opportunity for structured training and puppy play in a very positive environment with attentive staff. After doing that for 8 weeks, we've continued going 1-2 times per week and are now in the Puppy Plus class. We've even met other owners and built relationships through puppy play dates outside of class! The staff at Zoom Room have on numerous occasions gone out of their way to give advice on specific issues inside and right after class. They remember you and your pup's names and offer a really warm environment and just generally make this (overwhelming at times) puppy training process easier. Specifically I want to highlight two of the trainers, Amy and Elliott. Amy has been nothing short of WONDERFUL at every interaction, before, during and after class. My puppy absolutely loves her. Second, Elliott has been a fabulous and a huge help in the process. I'm crossing my fingers that they're both around for a long time. I highly recommend trying out Zoom Room, certainly with a new puppy but also for any age dog (they seem to have classes for just about every stage/goal). read more

This place has no business calling themselves a Canine training service. Ashley, in particular, was horrible to work with. She is unprofessional, dismissive of other types of training or thinking and has no idea how a service Canine trains or how one works with their handler as a team. I am shocked by the rudeness and degradation I experienced at this place. I will never refer this terrible business to anyone. Not ever. Dont let them ruin a good dog with their ignorance. read more

I took my puppy to this class and I was so excited to get started. I brought a couple of friends with me and they were a bit distracting - I apologized for this multiple times and we moved on. I received a nasty email from Emily, the manager, about another client who did not like me and my friends. Without any regard for our side of the story, the email was completely accusatory and handled very unprofessionally. I contacted corporate and received a response with almost the exact same tone. There are some good trainers here who are kind and welcoming, but overall Corporately, and Locally the management/owners do not have the proper people skills to handle any difficult situation. read more

I was so excited to find an indoor agility option and puppy obedience for my two Aussies that I bought a 10 class package. The packages expire after 3 months, however, and there was literally not one open spot in the obedience one class within that time frame. In fact, after getting my expiration date extended due to health issues, I STILL haven't seen one open date/time. It's a great concept, but apparently they have grown too quickly, or gotten too many clients, to be able to provide the services they advertise. I've requested a refund. I'll update if they provide one. I would definitely advise against buying a package; instead, I would advise paying class by class...IF they have one open! read more

Watson loved his puppy training class! The Zoom Room staff is amazing and highly educated to help any pup through their challenges. Watson is an Australian Shepherd and is very high energy. The trainer took the time to calm him down during group class and showed me how to do it at home. Which is a huge help! I had a personal issue come up with scheduling and Mark was very understanding. He gave me great options to resolve my issue. I can't recommend this place enough. You know how some places feel like old Austin where everyone is happy and just wants to plain help other people. I had the best experience at Zoom Room with Emily! I have a 9 month old Cavalier King who is very friendly..let's say over friendly on the leash along with being somewhat anxious. If he can't get to another dog to say hi he has a meltdown. We had our first private training today and it was really helpful. Emily had her own dog there to help w practice greeting. I walked away w some homework to practice and I've already booked another class with her along with some puppy play groups. We've also been to their puppy classes when he was very young and highly recommend! Take your dog here! It's so worth the investment and really reasonable prices for what you get out of it. I took my pup here for agility and the two women (Ashley was one) working were among the rudest customer facing staff I have aver ever encountered. No greeting, no small talk, the trainer did not even directly command or talk to my boy or come down to his level once- even during "training". Furthermore, I did all of the the training and commands with my dog and the equipment as the trainer stood there scowling the entire time and took no interest in interacting with me. She would not even set up the equipment even though I told her he was proficient at the tunnel, see saw and plank. How do you evaluate a dog for an agility level course without using any of the tools for agility? Upon paying and leaving the woman at the desk aggressively yelled at me for being to close to the desk- I was at the wall with the toys- which upset my dog greatly as he was a puppy. Then she had the audacity to tell me my boy was aggressive and I needed to leave after she was aggressive towards us. She actually yelled at me while other customers were in the store. She hid behind the desk, never even came close to my dog but felt like she could judge him from her high horse. Do not waste your time with these people. They are not "dog people". read more

I'm giving three stars because the orientation with Nikki was great, and also Emily was great for the brief time our dog interacted with her and her dog. My dog's evaluation and private session were with Cathy and he didn't take well to her energy. He has never barked at anyone or anything so much. Given that he's a rescue and hasn't had much interaction with other dogs, we decided to see how he'd interact with one of the staff dogs (who I was told also loves playing very hard) during the evaluation. The other dog was not on a leash and my dog was as he wasn't allowed to walk around unleashed during the evaluation. As most dogs are, he's very stressed out when on a leash in new environments, especially around other playful dogs who are not leashed. They started playing really rough (but not violent), and ended up having to be separated because my dog couldn't calm down. Cathy called my dog rude for jumping while playing, and suggested a private session to work on his excitability and interaction with other dogs. She said they had another staff dog who worked well with high energy puppies so I scheduled a private session. Emily and her staff dog were present for our private session, but Cathy wouldn't let my dog interact at all with the other dog because he was very excited and barking. Emily proposed letting them interact and Cathy said "no, he was really rough and rude last time." I was pretty upset since interacting with other dogs was the main reason I scheduled the private session. I also thought that for $65, the private sessions are an hour but they're actually only 30 minutes. We just spent the past few hours at the Yard Bar ($5.50) and my dog did great with all of the other dogs. read more

I really hate to bash on a small business, but I promise you that this place is not the right place to get dog training if you want real progress from a group class. I got my puppy during covid and have been training him at home for the year. I decided that with things everywhere opening up again and people getting the vaccine I would try a training facility. I called the facility to see what I needed to do in order to get my dog into agility classes since he is a very smart shepherd. They told me I had to go to a free orientation (where we learned nothing important if you have ever trained a dog) and I had to start with obedience 1 no matter what. I later went home and called again and said he has training and doesn't need to learn basic obedience skills. They repeated that I could pay money to have them do a consultation to assess his skills which I said I was happy to do if I could go to agility classes. Unfortunately they told me I could only come in the middle of the day (as a working dog mom was impossible) so I had to pay the money for the 3 month package and learn the skills my dog already knew. The most important thing to know about this facility is that THEY WILL NOT SHOW YOU A RUBRIC. So we go to the first class and of course my dog is distracted. He learned his training at home with no other dogs. I repeated to our trainer at the end of class that we already knew the skills and wanted to do agility. She agreed we would do a few classes and check. After 3 classes it was very obvious our dog knew the skills and he was bored doing the same skills over and over again. We asked again to move on. AGAIN NOT SHOWING US THE RUBRIC they said a few more classes for "consistency". So fast forward to today 7 classes later, the trainer has since been fired and we have been kicked out of a class for being 5 min late. At the end of class they graduated two dogs and I went up frustrated and asked when we could pass as the trainer had told us we could 4 classes ago. The response was "we need to see it again consistently" I got in an argument with them and their reasoning was we had a new trainer who had to see the skills again although we looked "perfect" today. I could tell no one wanted to give us an answer since they all looked at each other (owner Mike included) when I told them I was frustrated and my dog was bored they said it was too bad I had to come back to show them again. Mind you our class ended 15 min before their next class and they could easily ask us to prove the skill we apparently didn't do so we could move on. What I really think is going on is that they want to make you use your whole package of classes and then make you pay more to do anything else (buy another package of classes). This is the least transparent dog training I've ever been to and it's expensive. I would highly suggest finding a training program that will give you transparency and actually explain to you as the owner what your progress is and what you should focus on at home. read more
