I could not be happier that I ended up with Zoya and her assistant, Lyla (maybe Layla), after searching on Yelp last year for my wedding dress; they even fit in one of my bridesmaids. Lyla did almost all of the fittings and was so kind and informative and easy going and Zoya contacted me herself and had me come in for an extra appt to make sure she got my particular lace sleeves correct at the end. They used their skills to appropriately inform me while making sure I made the choices. They listened to my preferences with slight suggestions and my dress was truly perfect. Found in May, booked first appt for April, and I was at the end of their window for my October wedding which they were very clear about on their website and clearly explain you need multiple months for the process and tight booking options. Prices were reasonable and comparable and again, very happy to pay towards this small business! (will add more photos when have to upload). read more

I would very much recommend working with Zoya and her team! Zoya tailored both my wedding dresses, I got a used (I also recommend looking for used dresses!) full length gown with lace, beads, several tulle layers, the works, all-in-all a pretty complicated dress. It had a small tear in the tulle, and a little staining on the hem, which was fine because I'm a little shorter than the previous person. Zoya recommended leaving the tear untouched, because repairing it would just make it more obvious. It was such a small tear and such a huge amount of tulle that even knowing it was there it took a solid few minutes to find it. I'm sure nobody noticed. Also, because this was a used dress, it was on the larger side for me, and Zoya told me it was just about on the edge of what they could actually fit down without compromising the structure of the dress. But they did it! And it looked wonderful and fit perfectly! Same with my second dress, a shorter one for the reception (I'm not the sort of person who could stand wearing a big dress for a whole day. Also it was 103 degrees). It wasn't as complicated as the first, but it did have an overlaid portion that made it a bit more complicated. And it fit just as well as the first dress. I think the price was fair, not over or under what I would expect, especially for the first dress since it had so much detail and so many layers. I felt very comfortable at Zoya's. They listened to my concerns, answered my questions, gave suggestions and did a fantastic job on the dress. They were very communicative, and always prompt. I am non-binary and they are very open to tailoring things to a more androgynous fit and not what people would consider the norm. I have had jumpsuits, dresses, skirts, and pants fitted here. I made (reasonable--at least to other seamstresses) requests for my wedding dress, but I felt they were unprofessional and very rude in response. I had to take my dress elsewhere after alterations had already started due to poor customer service. I've rarely been treated so poorly by a company or write reviews, but weddings are stressful enough without being belittled/shamed/in tears over a difference in opinion. It seems the owner can get defensive in response to feedback that she doesn't want to hear, instead of being kind and trying to collaborate. It is possible she could have done a nice job on my dress, but I chose someone who did a wonderful job and also treated me and my preferences with respect/consideration! read more

Zoya took my bridal jumpsuit from 'very nice' to 'freaking amazing.' She re-did the internal structure, hemmed it, fixed the inside seams, and basically structured the garment so it fit me like a glove. She is lovely and fun and an incredible tailor! Her shop is from where I lived in Cambridge, but 100% worth the trips. She had me come in in January for my May wedding. When I got major dress regret about the jumpsuit I'd gotten, she held off on tailoring it and then tailored the replacement jumpsuit I got without penalizing me for the wasted fitting. So incredibly nice! And she finished the suit well in time for the wedding (with 2 fittings) despite the time crunch from me changing my mind. Zoya also happily took a cheap cape I'd gotten from the internet and made it AMAZING. I got so many compliments! This was perfect and I am SO happy I went to her! Go, now! read more

Zoya saved my wedding dress!! I reached out to Zoya about one month before my wedding desperate to have my previous alterations done by someone else as they botched my dress. Zoya did an excellent job with my wedding dress. The skirt was multiple layers of tulle and when I told her I did not want to lose too much of the train, she agreed, although said it would be difficult to bustle. She hemmed it perfectly and brought in the shoulders perfectly. The beading remained in tact. The waist already sat perfectly on me so that was an unnecessary alteration luckily. I went in on three occasions over 6 months time and each time I was very pleased with her work. She did managed to bustle my dress, albeit it took 7 points to do so! She showed my mom and MOH how to bustle it on the third visit and they nailed it on the day of the wedding. I paid about $300 for alterations to the straps, a hem and bustle, which to me is totally fair. Zoya is a terse lady, but she knows what she is doing and you need to clearly tell her what you want as well as trust her opinion! Also, don't bring in a dress that needs to be completely redone and expect perfection. I would definitely return to her for other projects. read more

Zoya was fantastic!! I used Zoya for my lace BHLDN dress, and she did a wonderful job altering it. I was a tad worried that alterations would show on the delicate lace, but the dress looked perfect! Due to the keyhole back, I was having a tough time finding a bra that would work, so Zoya also altered my strapless bra so it wouldn't show, and it didn't peak out of my dress all day. She did all this at a very reasonable price (To give you something to compare, I've had bridesmaid dresses altered at boutiques that cost DOUBLE what I paid to have my dress and bra altered). At the last minute, Zoya was also able to make sashes for my bridal party, and they came out beautifully. I will use Zoya for all my alteration needs, and will send anyone and everyone there! Came in 2 weeks before and it was perfect! 4 days before my wedding, being an anxious bride, I decided to put my dress on and stare at myself in the mirror for a little bit. To my surprise I put the dress on and it was too large in the bust! (My advice to brides: don't race an Ironman triathlon less than 2 months before your wedding then stop swimming completely!) Had an amazing experience with this shop! First of all, I was able to book everything online which is always a plus in this introvert's book. The service was great, quick to respond and very professional. Johanna added an inch to the bodice of my wedding gown without disturbing the intricate beading, hemmed FIVE layers of skirt a couple inches, and added decorative buttons to the back of the gown. And the double bustle was just a feat of engineering, and looked stunning to boot. Prices were extremely reasonable, too. Great job by Zoya. I was a little put off by the kurt cancellation of my online appointment. However, I believe that may be a result of past experience with brides that have super long appointments, going back and forth about what they want. I felt like I didn't have the vocabulary to describe what I wanted, which made booking hard but when that was resolved, the actual product was fantastic. All in all, I wanted a hem and for the bodice to fit me nicely. She did a phenomenal job and I couldn't be happier. I had an asymmetrical dress that didn't hold up the same way on both sides. I wish I could give this business a zero. My daughter recently took her wedding dress to have alterations done. They created so much stress and anxiety for her with their rude and unprofessional behavior during the course of the alterations. Of course the initial visit was fine as they just made notes of the work to be done. My daughter went back alone only to find the cups in the wrong place and they had ruined the look of the low "V" in the back. She was told that it was not there fault that she was so small and did not fill out the cups and she would have to be uncomfortable as long as the dress looked alright to others. They also intimated that the dress wasn't made right even though it was custom made by the designer. They were extremely dismissive and she left in tears. She asked me to go with her to the next fitting and the cups were moved but they had sewn through the fabric creating a pucker. Of course Zoya was no where to be found(nor was she ever again). They assumed that we would leave and told us we were taking the dress. The dress was full of lint and hair so she began to use a roller on it. We then insisted that they fix the cups and we were continually told that it would press out. It took alot of convincing for them to admit that it was sewn wrong. When we were starting to leave the girl told us to remember that the next appt was only for pick up and my daughter would not be able to try on the dress to make sure that it looked and felt alright. All and all our experience with this shop was the worst part of the planning process for the wedding. My guess is that if you are not a size 0 and don't have a form fitting sheath dress their work can seem good hence the reviews. If you do, steer clear of this shop as an unforgiving dress with expose the flaws in their work! read more

I went to Zoya's to have my wedding dress altered and they did a few things very well, but overall I was incredibly disappointed. I never actually met Zoya and she never actually worked on my dress, so maybe that was the problem. I only every interacted with the two young girls who are always there. They successfully altered the straps, armholes, and hem on my dress. They did not succeed in their alterations of the bust, the fit in the waist/hips and they really screwed up my bustle (multiple times). They added cups to my dress, but they were not comfortable on the day of my wedding, I think they were the wrong size considering they only ever practiced in store with C cups and I'm a DD. I asked them to take in the dress so it would be more form fitting and flattering since the dress was relatively simple. They took in the waste a bit but they took OUT the hips and I just did not feel pretty or flattered in my own wedding dress. I came in for a second fitting and when I tried on my dress the bustle was wrong, which is all I was paying attention to at the time so I took it off for them to fix, which they took it in the back to do while I was still there. I was okay with but a little unsure about the fit and wanted to get a second opinion from my mother and bridesmaids when they came into town the following week, but they gave me my dress after 5 minutes with it in the back and sent me on my way. I asked if I could leave the dress there because I wanted to come back with my mother but they said I couldn't leave it there and had to take it. So I had to take it on two cab rides and a 45 minute dirty train ride home. I expected that with such great reviews and such an incredibly high price that my dress and I would have been treated better. After my experience I did not want to go back so I went to have my bustle fixed elsewhere and dealt with my dress not fitting how I wanted since I had already spent so much money and didn't have the time or patience to go back to Zoya's. Though I am not pleased with my experience, I do want to note that the girls working there were nice, but did not seem to care that I was not satisfied. I also called about my dissatisfaction and heard back from Zoya who wanted to help but since I already took the dress home they couldn't refund the bustle, even though I wasn't allowed to leave my dress there. She also said that her assistant offered to have the sides taken in if I wanted and I am certain that that never happened. read more

I stumbled upon zoya designs while out for a run in the neighborhood. Normally these little boutique shops don't catch my eye. I just like to find the super old italian or greek tailor and have him make my adjustments. As I ran by I saw zoya engaged with a customer and both were just cracking up and seemed so happy. I know it sounds cheesy, but I really value a good experience when making purchases/spending money. I decided to give this place a shot. I brought a couple pants that I needed to get tailored and I was pleased. Zoya is delightful, very warm and passionate about her work. You just know when you are working with someone who cares. She is the owner of the business, her name is on the front door and she is there all the time. You can feel the dedication right when you step in. I'm no expert but I think the tailoring work was good. I can't say it's better or worse than my go to tailor (who i've been going to for 3 years now). But what I can say is that Zoya has an eye for the right piece of clothing. I came back not long after my first altercations and went to an after hours runway and saw some nice pieces she had made. I noticed a piece that I liked and wanted her opinion on it. Unfortunately the opinion was not favorable. Don't get me wrong, this is why I like dealing with Zoya. She's not going to sugar coat it and make me something that she doesn't think will be a good fit for my physique or style. She suggested a few changes that I agreed with and production began. She calls me a few weeks later (I told her I was in no rush for it as it's spring and it's a fall item) and told me the item was finished. I must say, as much as I love the summer I can't wait until the fall to wear this around. The fit is so nice, I love the flexibility in the arms. It's quality until anything I have seen in the past. Two weeks before my wedding I'd been a pretty laid back bride-to-be. Then I decided it was time to have the requisite bridezilla moment by deciding that my wedding dress (selected nearly 10 months earlier and having undergone multiple rounds of alteration) was no longer "the one" for me. So I went out, bought a new dress off the rack at BHLDN and proceeded to panic. How could I get this hemmed and ready to go in the mere 2 weeks before the wedding? Enter Zoya. I called Saturday afternoon, they had me come in Sunday for a fitting and 10 days later they'd done the hemming and some slight alterations I needed. You definitely have to make appointments to see her (popularity is gaining), and I always tried to show up a few minutes early. Our fittings went so smoothly, I knew I was in good hands. I'm torn on writing this review and waited a whole year because I take my Elite status very seriously and I am not on here to ruin a business. But I need to maintain my integrity of my reviews. On that note..... I used Yelp to find a tailor for some professional uniforms I needed altered. (I'm a basketball referee) I think that it was a mistake on my part to use Zoya because she is much more suited to work on wedding dresses and things of that nature. I am not here to ruin her perfect 5 stars but at the same time I feel like I need to be true to myself and the Yelp community. I could go into infinite detail about why I feel the way I do but I believe it will only come out as sounding crass. I will only say that the over pricing of services not rendered in a timely manner of completion were the issues. Also the uniforms were not tailored correctly but it was hard to tell until I actually used them during a game. Then it became quite obvious. I was probably the more indecisive bride ever, so when I finally found what I was going to wear (bought dress online from JCrew) the timing was less than optimal. I am not going to say how much time it was, I don't want to condone my last minute behavior, but lets just say it was less than two month, more than 1 month out which in my experience is the milestone that I found other alteration companies start doubling their price at. Getting to the location was very easy (bus stops right in front of the shop). Zoya and her team were so friendly and to the point, we got started right away. I tried on my dress and they started solutioning the issues. Post reconstruction of the bodice, Zoya and team reset the zipper to accommodate my short torso and adjusted the rolled hem. Initially I was a little worried since there was a keyhole in the back and some lovely beading around the shoulders, but turned out to be no problem. With 5 whole days to spare I took my dress home! (Only for my mom to bring it back 48 hours before for a quick steam) All I can say is Zoya really alleviated a lot of my stress. Her and her team are extremely skilled and efficient (my appointments never lasting more than 15 minutes) at what they do! read more

Recently bought a bunch of things final sale and much too big. Teaches a girl to shop online I guess. I brought a dress in to Zoya from this ill-fated shopping spree and had them take it in for me. Service was awesome. Very nice and not intimidating at all. I was in and out of there pretty quickly and they were able to take me for a fitting appointment same day. All in all, they took in four seams, added bra cups and shortened the straps. And! They got it all back to me in 3 weeks or so. The result was great! Zoya Designs was a wonderful Yelp discovery. I was frantically searching for a seamstress to alter my wedding dress and was nervous not knowing what I was in for. I picked Zoya based on other yelpers and it's close proximity to the apartment I was renting at the time. Making my first appointment was easy as pie, using their online system and receiving email confirmation quickly. They called to review with me the procedure, reminding me to bring my shoes and any undergarments needed. They also reviewed to make sure all my alterations would be completed by my wedding date. First appointment, the girl working was so sweet! She complimented me and kept up a comfortable chatter with me and my bridesmaid. Zoya was professional and could pinpoint exactly what needed to be done. My dress has a lace overlay with an illusion back and she was able to figure out exactly where darts should be placed to get the back to lay as flat as possible. Second appointment, we checked the hem and Zoya pinned up the bustle. Final appointment, they showed me how to bustle the dress and let me walk around the shop for a bit to get used to the feeling. Overall, very impressed with the service. Everything was done perfectly and in a very timely manner. All in alterations of my very lacy and layered dress cost about $400 which after comparing prices, seemed like a super bargain. I will be back for any other alterations needed. read more

I had an extremely bad experience with Zoya designs regarding my wedding dress. I went to Zoya because of the great reviews and proximity to my house. My wedding dress was very simple: crepe, no boning, no tulle and a low back, so alterations will make or break the dress. Imagine Caroline Kennedy, classic and elegant look. I wanted the dress to sit elegantly, but not be skin tight. I was very pleased after my first appointment, as I thought my vision was understood. When I went in for my second fitting, my dress had been tailored so that it was extremely tight-fitting on my body, and the cups had been enlarged so that my chest was way out of proportion with my body (I am a petite person). I tried to explain my concern with the dress, but I did not feel listened to and it was explained to me that it's just how the dress is (crepe fabric and because of a low back) and that's just how the dress will look. I got home and looked at the pictures of me in the dress with my friend who came with me. I started to cry as I was still so upset as in the pictures it fit horribly and I did not feel valued or listened to at all while in the shop. I immediately went back to the shop hoping I could catch Zoya before she left; my wedding was only 1 month away and I was so upset. Zoya was completely unprofessional to me at this point, she yelled at and blamed my friend for me coming back. She was very upset I was there after hours, but did take new measurements and agreed to loosen the dress this time. The third visit, the dress fit much better and I told her I appreciated it. She had also hand sewn the V neck of the dress to try to make it sit flush to my chest, but it looked bumpy and extremely messy, as opposed to the delicate lines of the dress. Zoya was extremely short and rude with me this visit I expressed my concern with the V. She was extremely hostile and I did not feel comfortable leaving my dress there again 2 weeks before my wedding. I left the store crying, I took my dress and had no idea what I would do. I googled and thankfully found another tailor who said could squeeze me in and see how she could help! I had already paid for the alterations from Zoya and assumed I would not get a refund and I didn't want to interact with that shop again, so I didn't. When I took the dress to the new tailor, she showed me that my chest looked large and strange because Zoya, rather than removing the cups that came with the dress, just added another level of padding on top of them! Two layers of cups is ridiculous!! She also could not find the bustle that was supposed to have been put into the dress. The new tailor fixed the neck of the dress and the cup situation excellently and quickly, though I did pay much more for rush alterations because it was two weeks before my wedding. All in all, I received horrible service at Zoya's and wish she had just told me initially that she did not like working on dresses like mine. Instead, she did very poor alterations and then refused to fix it when I expressed concern, blaming me and my dress for the poor way it looked. I have never had such a poor experience before and was extremely disappointed with the service provided here. read more
