A father and sons establishment, Our Farm has been 15 years in the making. The Ritcher family started planting trees in 1998 on their property with several varieties--Balsamic and Fraser firs or Scotch, White, and Norway pines. They offer cut-your-own or pre-cut! My family grew up with the lovely smell of pine in the house around Christmas time, and it has been a continued tradition to trek out into the woods and cut a tree ourselves. At Our Farm, you have the option to walk all around the 40 acres to hunt for your preferred tree, or one of the sons can offer to drive you into the back area (where all of the biggest and best trees can be found.) We were pleasantly surprised by the selection. We had trouble deciding because every tree seemed like the perfect one. I think the best part though was getting to enjoy the beautiful property. When we settled on the perfect tree, the Ritchers shook the excess needles off and bailed it for us. They even were kind enough to assist in tying it down to our truck's roof. The Ritchers were folksy and incredibly pleasant to chat with, telling the story of his grandad was a tree farmer elsewhere in Minnesota and they wanted to continue the family tradition. Pop Ritcher has big plans for the Farm, hoping to have hay rides, hot cocoa stations, and toboggans to haul your tree up from the back woods. Really glad too that they were open just three days before Christmas. Many tree farms are closed by now. Their prices are fair for their trees. We got a huge Norway pine for $60! Be sure to make it your tradition for Christmas, to visit the Ritchers for your Christmas tree.

This program allows them to not properly care for the plants they carry. It also allows them to avoid educating their staff in regards to proper care. ​​ The staff at the Mustard Seed prove that you get what you pay for. ​While some of the younger staff may not have the answers, they are willing to find someone who can. The staff is welcoming and go out of their way to help to the best of their ability. I have been coming here for years for annuals, veggies and perennials. It's incredibly rare that I have an experience that left me feeling dissatisfied (no one is perfect). ​ The one thing that stands out at this garden center is that they do their very best to find specific plants just for you. We have 2 sons in the military and have always cut a tree down as a family since the boys were born. It has become more difficult each year but because the owners of this farm are SO WONDERFUL they have accommodated us and helped keep our tradition alive.
