The empanadas were decent, but also huge. You can probably just share one with 1-2 other people if you're just looking for a taste to go along with your arepas. We initially went to Zulia's kitchen to drop off some donation for the Venezuelans affected by the earthquake. We decided to give their specials a try. We went with the shredded brisket plate that came with beans, cheese, arespa and plantain. We had the crispy pork belly plate that came with the same sides. While both meats were good, we felt like there was way too much cheese on the plate. The beans were a tad salty. The place itself has a very casual atmosphere. You go to the counter, place your order and then pick it up once your order is called. I'd like to go back and try their empanadas and their pastelitos. I've tried their food truck location a few times and it has always been delicious. This time we went to their brick and mortar location, the place is small and it was nicely packed. We ordered salchipapas and the patacon, the food took over 30 mins to come out, which I guess it is expected because it seems to be home made and of course it was packed. Everything tasted really good, the one thing I would mention is that everything was served on top of their paper, the patacon was juicy with sauce and coleslaw that just soaked though the paper, I ended up having to remove the paper after it just falling apart and becoming part of my meal. I came here with some family wanting to try some Venezuelan food and heard good things about this place. It is a small restaurant but was nice and clean when we enter. We were able to find seats thankfully before the crowd came in. They have the menus in the front of the room and you can put your order in there. The lady there was very nice and helped us to understand the menu. We ordered Tequeños, which is a big cheese stick. I thought they were very delicious. The cheese stretched far when I pulled it apart and the crust was very soft and thankfully not overcooked. It was a bit expensive but did give us 5 pieces. The sauce it came with was also very delicious and took some extra home for later. We also ordered fries on the side that were decent as well. I had ordered a San Antonio Arepas. It had grill chicken, avocado, Chipotle mayo and jalapeños. Overall it was alright but not really my favorite. The chicken tasted alright but felt like it was missing something. I liked the empanadas better with the shredded brisket but I also thought was missing something. I also ordered a drink called chichas which was a creamy milk drink with condensed milk and cinnamon. It was actually pretty good and not overly sweet. Similar to a milkshake but no ice cream. Overall the food was decent and I would consider coming back but to try something else. Great place for a quick, tasty, and cost effective meal! The spot is hidden in a shopping center and you'd miss it if you don't turn your head. I live right down the street and have came a few times. The girl at the front was kind and helpful towards picking some options for me. She mentioned the corn mix is their local equivalent of maseca which is a corn based flour. The flavors are bright and tasty. The San Antonio arepa is a good mix of flavor and spice. They have room for a stage and apparently they have live performances there too. Great services, wonderful staff, yummy food. I was invited to join for a birthday celebration lunch. We arrived upon opening. We were greeted by staff and sat in the VIP section. We let staff know that someone in aloud party had mobility issues that would make it difficult for them to go up stairs. They were more than happy to accommodate. The place itself is a bit small but very clean and inviting. There is not much for us vegetarians to eat but I did order a potato and cheese pastilitos which was excellent! I also ordered me a diet soda. Our party ordered various dishes and everyone enjoyed their meal, minus one picky person. The food came out fairly quickly and was delicious. The birthday guy loved what he ordered and staff even presented him with a birthday flan. This place is more than welcoming to all. A friend of mine loves this place, so on the way home from an event, my husband and I decided to stop in. It's a nice, clean place with lots of tables. I ordered the reina pepiada arepa and it tasted like bland chicken salad. I did appreciate the amount of avocado on it though. The arepa itself was really tough to bite into and it hurt my teeth, so I had to get up and get a fork to just eat the inside of it. I wish the staff had been more welcoming and friendly, but that's not a dealbreaker for me. For dinner tonight, we weren't wanting to venture too far from home. When I was searching on US281, I saw @zuliaskitchen 15 minutes away. It turns out that Zulia's opened this brick and mortar location 5 months ago. I had had good experience at The Block SA location, when they started out as a food truck. You order and pay at the counter, get a buzzer, and pick up your food. Milan took our order and took care of our drinks. We ordered the following to share: Empanada with beef brisket, Pastelito (mashed potato and cheese), Sweet Plantains, and Quesillo (Venezuelan flan). Dad and I shared the Arepa Pelua, which was with shredded brisket and cheese. We both had the Passion Fruit Juice, which was a mix of sweetness and sour. Hubby had the Arepa Pabellon and unsweet tea. Everything was delicious. I was loving the garlic cilantro sauce. The sweet plantains were similar to Filipino ones except for the shredded cheese and mayo. Dad really enjoyed these. I was curious how this flan would be similar or different from the Filipino flan. This one was more firm, but the sauce tasted fairly similar. One thing I learned reading up about arepa is that it's in both Venezuelan and Columbian cuisine. Now I'm curious to taste the Columbian version to see the difference. Came her a few weeks ago with my fiance. Would have written this sooner, but I have been in a food coma since eating their Pepito. The place is in an area that shares parking with many other businesses. One place that it shares parking with is Pocket Billiards. I fully intend to make a night where I eat at Zulia's and then go play some pool at pockets. When we got to the area, we had no trouble finding a parking spot. My fiance and I went in and didn't find anyone else in line. We ordered our food. I got the Pepito. It's a Venezuelan sub that has grilled sirloin, chicken breast, and bacon. It also has grilled cheese, potato sticks, parmesan cheese, ketchup mustard, and mayo garlic cilanto. We were given a buzzer that would alert us when our food was ready. It was not long after we were seated that our buzzer went off. The Pepito was delicious. I do suggest that you learn the ability to unhinge your jaw to eat it as it is stacked with lots of different ingredients The restaurant does have a nice outdoor area that I hope to use at another date. Zulia's had mixed reviews within my family. My husband wasn't too impressed, I thought it was good. I had the Venezuelan plate and I thought the brisket was really tasty! It was juicy and had a bit of sweetness to it. I also ordered an additional side of plantains and it came with this minced cheese and I would have never thought to put cheese with plantains -- but it was also delicious. It was a bit pricing, when you order a burger you also have to order a side of fries, and so for two entrees and a burger and two sides, it was like 60 bucks and some change...which is a lot for lunch... read more

I grew up in Caracas, Venezuela in what the youngsters would call "The 1900s". While I have been able to enjoy Venezuelan Cuisine in other places in the US, Zulia's Kitchen had one that I have been trying to recreate since I have not (until now) found it in a Venezuelan Restaurant- a Caracas-style Hot Dog. Zulia's Kitchen calls theirs "El Caraqueño". What is in a Venezuelan Hot Dog? When I was younger, and partying, we used to eat those by the dozen at certain Hot Dog stands. Usually it is a bun plus an all beef frankfurter, finely chopped cabbage, diced onions, potato stix, parmesan cheese, Venezuelan Garlic sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup. The Zulia's Kitchen version had all the flavors, but some changes were made for the locals, namely a larger sausage (in Venezuela it tended to be a standard Oscar Meyer all beef bun length frankfurter) and a mountain of toppings. If you order this, get a fork to assist your meal. You will need it to find your Hot Dog Bun underneath the mountain of toppings. Tasty but bigger than expected. The phrase "go big or go home" has to have been created in Texas. I also ordered A Polar Pilsener Beer, a Frescolita, Tequeños, and a Beef Pastelito. It was a hot day, and the Polar Beer hit the spot while I waited for my meal. What is Frescolita? It is Big Red's slightly sweeter Venezuelan Cousin. Tequeños are Venezuelan's idea of cheese sticks- also bigger than what is usually found in Caracas (normal size is the size of a snack sized egg roll). They are described by many as the entry drug for Venezuelan Cuisine, order these. The pastelitos are similar to empanadas, just smaller, and pillow shaped. The beef Pastelito was very good. I will come back to try the rest of the menu items. read more

As a Venezuelan, I always approach new Venezuelan restaurants with a skepticism. However, this place is amazing and reasonably priced. Service was friendly and fast when I called placing my Uber Eats order. I ordered the Pabellón arepa and my boyfriend ordered the House Burger with the cilantro mayo on the side. Both things were exceptionally fresh, authentic, and delicious. The pabellón was seasoned to perfection and none of the food was overly greasy. Both portions were reasonably and a bit on the larger side. I had the fresh Passionfruit Juice and I highly recommend it. I hadn't found a good passion fruit juice in San Antonio but this is the place to try it if you have not either. I would also recommend the Lemon Nestea if you're a sweet tea fan but want to try the Venezuelan twist. Overall, 10/10. Can't wait to go in person and check out the ambiance. read more

I was sampling the restaurant with some friends and tried the Cachapa, tasty fried corn masa folded over delicious cheeses and, the Patacón shredded beef and ham with cheese and topped with fried plantains, savory but very heavy-better with two people-and ask them to go east on the mayo, next time I'll ask if they can use sour cream instead. I'll have to try the Arepas next time, I've previously had them with corn masa, looks like they use white flour here. So exciting to have a Venezuelan restaurant in San Antonio! I first tried Zulia's at The Block through their food truck and wanted to stop by and try out the newly opened restaurant. The vibes inside were so nostalgic, bringing me back to my culture. My boyfriend really enjoyed his breakfast but says Venezuelans are a little obsessed with cheese. Guilty - I love cheese. I gave it 4/5 stars because I wasn't a fan of the cachapa. It wasn't as tasty as I remember it being, and it didn't taste the same as the one I ordered at Zulia's food truck. Started with the sweet plantains, covered with cheese w/ sour cream dipping sauce. Sounds weird, but TOTALLY works!
