Zuppa Cafe & Pizza will always have a special place in my heart whenever I visit Edmonton. I love how their business is homemade, family run & locally sourced - you can feel the passion in everything that they do. For me, I love the optionality with all of their offerings - the menu items are so inviting and really hit the spot. Their coffees are truly excellent, not a Starbucks or Tim Hortons quality, and worth every drop. For food, I could eat everything off the menu, but my personal recommendations are the Zuppizza Pizza and Caesar Wrap with Feta & Maple. Think of the Zuppizza Pizza as your upgraded everything pizza, flavors for days and so much flavor on every single bite. I had to add the Caesar Wrap with Feta & Maple in there because I have never had a Caesar Wrap like that and I'm sure glad I've had it now. Didn't know this but they have actually give $5 off your first order of $25 or more if you order through their website, zuppacafe.ca. I have reviewed Zuppa before, but an update was needed. Zuppa are now doing pizza as part of the regular menu, and I have to say it is amazing. The menu is not big, but the offerings are all excellent. So far my favourites are the O' Canada and the Straight Outta India. The former is salami, pepperoni, crumbled bacon, ground beef, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and pineapple. The latter, green peppers, olive, red onions, tomatoes, and chicken marinated in Indian spices. It has a lovely spicy tang to it. The pizzas are generously sized, and very satisfying. A small is more than enough for me, usually with a piece left over for a bachelor's breakfast. Tuesdays are Pizza Special days, with a small pie ringing in at just $10.00. It is now a weekly ritual. I am fortunate to have this fine selection a mere elevator ride away, so I am spoiled. I suggest you spoil yourself, too. read more

This café has a special place in my heart, it used to be my go to when I was living in Gradin/Oliver. They have a super nice west facing patio on a quiet street. As for the interior, it's toasty and inviting, especially in those cold winter months. There's definitely a European vibe. The type of coffee you have on every street corner on the old continent. They have great paninis, coffee and pastries at a price that's not inflated by the "hype". Good work, and try not to change!! read more

I hadn't been to Zuppa in a year at least, although used to frequent it as I lived nearby and took the LRT at Grandin station, which is right out front. The menu has changed very little but the overall venue has improved with a nice outdoor seating area, new staff, and the option to pay with plastic. Lucky for me, cuz I was $1 short in cash. The prices may seem a little high but it is well worth it for the quality and quantity of the food. The wraps and sandwiches are huge, and a "half" order of salad will still fill your plate (and your belly). For $8 I had a half Mediterranean salad and a feta pita roll. Good thing I love feta, because the salad had a lot! That's a good sign of not cheaping out on ingredients. Fresh veg with tasty oil/balsamic dressing, pita stuffed with feta, buttered and warmed. Great stuff! I managed to eat half of the pita. The quality of the food remains outstanding. The interior is getting a bit worn: cheap unsteady chairs and tables, broken table markers (which used to be a cute feature, just numbers now), paper-covered menu boards (need updated) streaky TV. I hope the interior is next on the reno list. It wasn't busy when I was there but I still waited 20 minutes for my simple meal. I was also surprised that the fridge showcase was almost empty, used to have pan brownies and other things. The business has changed a bit, mostly for the better, and the quality remains high. This is a cute and easy little Cafe near the legislature. It has your typical Cafe menu, one thing to note in particular is the reasonable prices! You can get quite a good size portion at lunch for like $10 which is awesome. Staff is friendly and food comes out pretty quickly. Most things are self serve, it's a pretty simple place. They always have water available for you to take as much as you want. There is ample seating. One of the best parts is the cute little outdoor patio! We didn't have much of a summer this year but on a sunny day it's got a nice view of the Grandin area! Also I've seen Rachel Notley here twice eating! I turned around and was like OMG! This is a hidden gem! Close to LRT and located in a great neighbourhood. I usually come here for lunch or meetings after work. The place is roomy and comfy. They have a fireplace and some reading material if you wish to hang out and read. The staff is friendly and nice. There is a water station for folks to get water. Okay, now to the food... soooo they have a salmon wrap that is nothing like I ever tasted before! I have been having it for years and have not tried anything else because it is that good! Its size is excellent for the price. The sauce, which is a bit sweet with the feta cheese and the smoked salmon, makes it taste delicious. The Chai Latte is a great compliment, and the wrap comes with a salad. This place is a must-try, the location is excellent for a walk after and a beautiful view of the river valley just a few blocks down. After this review, I will expand and try more items because I know the rest of the food must be great too. I love that it is locally owned and that they are community orientated. I had heard rave reviews from other staff after I started at my new job just down the block and was quite excited to have a more health conscious option for lunch as there is slim pickings in the immediate area other than Fat Franks at the Ledge Grounds which for obvious reasons is seasonal. I ordered the smoked salmon wrap with great anticipation as the restaurant was packed and it was still only 11:40 a.m. which normally means that people are scheduling their lunch breaks to ensure they can eat there. The food that came out past me looked like large servings for a reasonable price considering what an average lunch downtown can run you. When the wrap came out it looked amazing, full of fresh looking greens, what appeared to be a reasonable amount of salmon and a creamy sauce that smelled great. Unfortunately thats where the "WOW factor" stopped. When I took my first bite I realized that my fresh greens stopped about an inch from the end of the wrap and quickly segwayed into a limp, wilted, and even slimy in some parts mess. I was starving and immediately looked to salvage the debacle by picking out the "greens" but unfortunately the salmon was also only occupying the first half of the wrap too. I have since then sworn off their entrées and have stuck with their muffins and coffee which are quite good! I am considering trying their pizza the next time I am stuck with overtime at work since it is only available after 5pm I believe. I have high hopes that I just caught them at the end of an ordering cycle but only time will tell. I will keep you posted on the outcome of my Pizza venture! read more

I HATE to say it, but my love affair with Zuppa's is over. The place is under new ownership (or at least management), and they're now changing all the recipes up. My beloved, cinnamon & raisin, soft whole-wheat cinnamon bun is now white floured, hard, has no raisins and is covered in sickenly-sweet, odd-tasting cream cheese icing. All the other muffins are now covered & filled with extra sugar, making Zuppa's old (and welcome) approach to more natural flavors a thing of the past. Lines are even slower than before (try a 30 min wait vs 15), and the new additions to the menu aren't much to write home about. These additions are also ridiculously expensive for what they are - a green salad that's JUST leafs for $6?? (they tell you there's cucumber and other green vegetables in it, but they're lying - they're using the mixed spring greens boxed stuff from Safeway, I could see it on the prep table & they aren't adding anything to it). Goodbye beloved old Zuppas, hello new Zuppa's I'll only be going to in emergencies :( read more

This is the best restaurant to fall in love with someone during the lunch hours. I remember a few years ago, I had a sweet lunch date at Zuppa for the first time. We had a nice walk to the restaurant, because parking is always hard to find. We shared a giant salmon wrap with a Greek salad. Something about sharing a meal bring such a sweet connection..... Ok so the portion of food here was lots so we had to share. LOL The place was busy during lunch time, but no matter how many people are looking for a spot to sit, we found a nice cosy spot for ourselves. We had a nice conversation over a tasty latte. I love the taste of organic coffee. I fell in love.... I'm always excited to go to Zuppa for lunch because I can still taste the love in the air and I can't wait to take a bite into the wraps and try the other foods on the menu. The presentation of the food here is incredible. I love the warm outlay of this restaurant. The down to earth feel brings me to a place of comfort and ease. Breakfast food is always on a good looking display. The salads are crispy, fresh and I can see the hands that put it together. The menu is easy on the eye and whatever I order, I know it's gonna be good. They have there own soup creation, which I like. Zuppa Cafe used to be one of my favourite lunch spots in Edmonton. It's one of the few quick lunch spots in the Grandin area and is conveniently located right beside the Grandin LRT station on 110th Street. The lunch menu consists of some wraps, pasta dishes, soups and salads. They also have a number of baked goods like cookies, muffins, etc. Prices are pretty reasonable and portions are quite large for a lunch time meal. The decor is pretty basic. The tables and chairs are old and have definitely seen better days. I think ownership changes hands a few years ago - it just doesn't seem to have the same quality in the food. It wasn't bad - but just doesn't seem to still have that "wow" factor I feel it used to have. It's worth stopping by if you are on the area and want to get some food - but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there anymore. read more

Enjoyed a quick stop here for a coffee and pastry when I accidentally showed up an hour early for a nearby appointment. Plain decor, reasonable prices, friendly staff and good coffee/food. I wouldn't hesitate to come again. There isn't really a "Wow" element here, though I have yet to try the real food. But I certainly enjoyed myself more than I would at a noisier place. I will start off by saying I LOVE ZUPPA!!! I've been there countless times over the last 6 years and never been disappointed. I haven't tried their pasta or wraps as I am celiac, but their soups and salads are amazing! I take the LRT across downtown just to have lunch at Zuppa and order my favorite: Mediteranean salad with chicken. The veggies are crispy and taste amazingly fresh. The chicken has that charbroiled flavor and the balsalmic vinegrette perfect. Did I mentioned the moutain of feta?! mmmmmm..... thinking of it makes me so hungry :) prices are decent, especially considering the amount of food you get- the portions are gigantic! One note- the small and large mediteranean salads are almost the same size and are really big. Overall, supper happy with this place and you can be sure to find me taking the lrt every couple of weeks just to have lunch there. read more

I keep meaning to go to this place more often. I've only been in twice; once to grab an almond pastry and once to get a Mediterranean wrap to go. The wrap was simple and delicious! It's just salad unless you want to add meat. The balsamic and heated press are what make it extra yummy. I was pleasantly surprised by this little place that's hidden away by Gradin's LRT station. I finally stopped in after only walking by about a hundred times on a Monday afternoon after a long day in class. I was hungry and needed something quick so I went with the blueberry muffin, delicious! I love that they serve beer and by the looks of things I will have to come back to try breakfast. I didn't expect much form this place as I assumed it was a hole-in-the-wall kind of a place. The staff are very nice and are quick to serve you. Zuppa is a nice place that serves at all times of the day. I had never heard of it before and decided to check it out. We went at lunch time and it was fairly busy. So I assumed it was going to be a good experience. It was suggested to me to try the smoked salmon wrap and I was surprised. It didn't sound appealing to me but it was very good. Everything here was fresh and delicious. We didn't have time for desert but they looked delicious and I want to go back just thinking about them. I need to update my old review to give this place an extra star! Now that I've had a chance to sample more of the menu, I'm really impressed. Zuppa provides some delicious sandwiches, soups and pastas, as well as the BEST lattes in the city. Furthermore, they've increased their hours (perhaps just for the summer?) which means I don't have to rush home after work to get dinner here -- I can arrive at my leisure since they're open until 8pm. I still take care to avoid this place during the lunch rush, and so far so good. It is still busy in the mornings, but during the afternoon its virtually empty. I love Zuppa! read more

My wife and I went here one Friday morning based on high web ratings. It was about 9:35 when we walked in, and my wife had to use the washroom. Looking at their wall menu, I noted that breakfast-ending time was "around 10am". I asked if they were still serving breakfast, and the counter attendant kind've waffled his shoulders, and said, "Sure." Three other people came in a group, and I let them go ahead of me until my wife rejoined me to order. After they ordered, the attendant looked at me, and said, "Sorry, we're no longer serving breakfast." I thought he was joking. He assured me he wasn't - that the three breakfasts just ordered would take a long time to prepare, and that they needed the remaining time to clean up for lunch. He was polite, and the menu forewarned me this might happen - but it wasn't even 9:40! What happened to the customer is always right? We still ordered a cinnamon bun each, and a coffee. The cinnamon bun was fine, the coffee was so-so. However, I am mostly upset at the lack of respect they showed new customers who were prepared to pay for breakfast, well within the posted breakfast period. read more

Zuppa is one of Edmonton's hidden gems. This small bistro/cafe just a few blocks away from the Legislature serves breakfast, lunch, and early dinner (on weekdays) that are prepared fresh to order, using fair trade and often local ingredients. The place has a very artsy, folksy atmosphere to it - and it fills up fast, especially around lunchtime. There are a variety of salad and pasta options as well as grilled sandwiches. Saturday is the big day here though, with breakfast served until 2:00 p.m. (when the place closes). Omelettes with three or four fillings served either normally or in a wrap, large bowls of porridge topped with fresh fruit, and french toast that is actually a ginormous cinnamon bun coated with egg and sweetness, served with real whipped cream and berry compote. Most of the breakfast items are also served with a scoop of fresh fruit salad. Another favorite is the whole wheat waffles, which are four mini-waffles served with whipped cream and berry compote (who needs maple syrup when you have all that??). Food is served cafeteria style - you get in line and pay for your food upfront, and if it is busy you may end up waiting a while, but trust me, it is worth it. The coffee is fresh and delicious, and there is a front display full of treats if you just want to stop in for an afternoon coffee break. Out of the way, but highly recommended. read more

ZUPPA's STRIKE I went to Zuppas today for lunch, waited 20 minutes, then was given the wrong lunch order and when I told them I didn't order it I was blamed by the staff that it was my fault! I asked to speak to the manager and out comes Leo (the guy in the kitchen). I tell him his staff gave me the wrong lunch order and blamed me for it by saying "I failed to listen." In the upset of all of this, I leave my new lunch order on the counter that I now can't eat because 40 minutes has gone by. So Susanne runs back in to grab my lunch on the counter, Leo calls her into the kitchen and tells Susanne "I nearly slapped that BITCH"....about me. Susanne demands a refund and leaves in DISGUST! Zuppa's is truly a hidden gem in Edmonton where you typically will only find locals. It's located just off 109 Street on 110 street and 98 Ave in the bottom of an apartment building. The space is fairly small 8-10 tables, however they added a patio this summer. If your planning to go for lunch arrive early as this is their busiest time of the day. For $9 dollars you get a huge wrap. Most recently I had the Italian sausage. The wrap was good, however I prefer the Mediterranean wrap. At times they can also be heavy on the sauce, so by the time I started eating the second half of my wrap it had began to fall apart. They also make great soups. My suggestion, find a friend, head down and split one wrap and order 2 soups. You will both be full for under $10 each. read more

I was expecting more based on the reviews I read on here but upon entering I noticed how uncomfortably stuffy & warm the cafe is not to mention how unkept and dumpy the place is. I had an iced latte, and frankly the price I paid was comparable with that common upscale coffee chain but certainly provided none of the ambience. They don't even deserve 1 start. The worst service ever!!!!!!!!! I've never encountered such rude staff. I and my co-workers purchased lunch for take out. Walked back to work and opened up my pasta and it looks like they didn't have enough sauce made that day so all I had on my pasta was some chopped up tomatoes and tomato juice from the tomatoes. It was disgusting. When I tried calling back the next day and asking for the owner I was told he wasn't in and I said I would like to talk to him. I was rudely and abruptly told that he was busy and they were busy and to write in my complaint because they didn't have time....and the worst part was click went the phone...They hung up. I work in the customer services field as a manager and I can say I've never ever encountered such rude rude service. Please don't take your business here because if you have an issue with your meal or service they don't want to hear it. Leo you don't know how to run a business and you'd better take a course on how to deal with Customers. I'll give you some tips Patience, Professionalism and being Pleasant...none of which you showed when I called in?? ...and I wasn't even a rude customer!! Shame on you!!!!! read more

Food is fantastic, and I am a fairly frequent customer. All staff are friendly. PROBLEM is that this place is terribly unreliable. Tonight, during a snowstorm I walked three blocks in 3/4 foot of snow to buy dinner at Zuppas. I arrived at around 6:50 and there were two different tables currently eating however no staff was anywhere to be found!! I waited until 7:12 (22 min without any staff anywhere to be found) and decided that was enough and left. In addition they advertise being open until 8 PM but are rarely there past 7:45. Great great product, but my god can it be a frustrating place to visit. read more

It pains me to write a bad review as I am sure the restaurant business is not an easy one, however it also pains me to be served inedible food. On a recent business trip I met a friend here and had one of the soups of the day, cream of mushroom. They are ZUPPA, so I would expect them to know how to make soup. What was served was a pale, disgustingly thick blob with numerous starch lumps - disgusting to look at and worse to taste with the flavour of - you guessed it - starch with a hint of mushroom. I'm afraid the word must be out because there was almost no one in the place, which should have been my first clue but I haven't been in Edmonton for some time. New owners, please wake up and smell the soup before you lose your business - people like to support small business owners offering unpretentious food but you are inadvertently showing your customers contempt by ladling out such a mess. Also, there are unsavoury brown stains on a picture below the heat pump which only adds to the unappetizing feel to the place. read more
