Traditional caucasian comfort food at it's best (worst for your cardiovascular system and waistline…read moretho!) - starch, meat, salt, butter, cream... oh my! And to top it all off, huge homemade pies in about 8 different varieties. For the more health conscious (ha!) there's cabbage and beet soup - there's even some beans in there. I love Uncle Ed's. The service is fast, the food is good and the price is right. It's a calorie splurge but totally worth it. I also love that I can shop after, I always pick up soup and perogies from the frozen section, but there are many more items to choose from, like poppyseed donuts, cabbage rolls and affordable veal cutlets (they're hit and miss, sometimes stringy, but at $7 for a pack of 2 it's a good gamble). There's also a fridge section, the deli of course, and a little packaged good section. I like to pick up spätzle, sauerkraut and Jam Lady products here. They also have a small Ukrainian goods section and offer special items at Christmas and Easter. Uncle Ed's is an Edmonton institution, and their newer location in Beverly is clean and organized. Just get there early (1100ish) cuz the lunch rush is very busy and the parking fills up fast.

It is kinda similiar to a small town dinner. No frills. Also the servers do their job but I can't say they were friendly. This time I had the smoked pork chop with the chedder perogies and the sour cabbage rolls and cheese filled crepes. I love thier smoked pork chop. I waffle on that an the meatballs. To me these are my favourite foods. My husband went with the kubbie burger which he really enjoyed. Not much to say in terms of ambiance. Pretty basic but clean. I obviously will come back here again

My first time going to Shumka restaurant on 95th street in Edmonton, which serves Ukrainian foods,…read moreI had a plate of potato and cheddar cheese perogies, kobassa sausage, cabbage roll, and crepes with dill sauce. My partner and I usually go to another place but it was our first time there to celebrate the Ukrainian Christmas. The food was very delicious and the portions generous. Service was quick and professional, and courteous. The ambiance was very nice as well - images from Ukraine were hung on the walls, with foods for sale - as well as a variety of dishware. Definitely a restaurant to go back to for tasty foods.

Frozen meals and snacks (cake, pie, loaf cake, beef jerky, pampushky) available too. Ordered the Maxi plate so I could try the perogies, nalysnyky, kobbassa, and meatballs. All for $15. Place had the AC running hard but it was +27 outside so understandable. Sausage was great. Just basic garlic sausage, not spicy. Meatballs were covered in a nice beef gravy. Perogies were fresh, I tried the cottage cheese ones which were nice - very light flavor. The Nalysnyky were great and highly recommend to try as they are pretty unique. Friend got the cabbage roll and had to ask for tomato sauce for on top (otherwise comes sauce-less). Filling is just rice looked like. Overall nice Ukranian food with a menu that lets you try everything in whatever quantity you want.
