A lot of my experiences here had been extremely positive but after today, I can confidently say, I'll be shopping for my records elsewhere. I placed an online order and got no contact, I'll own that partly was my fault because I guess I didn't enter my email? But I didn't receive an order text either. So, I decided to head in since I was around there to ask... One of the newer associates was very nice and helpful as much as she could be, but the other, Cam I believe her name was, was rude for absolutely no reason at all, unrelated to my issue but I heard Cam straight up lie to a customer on the phone while I was waiting for help telling the person that she couldn't help because it was a "big" store and it was SO busy she couldn't offer them the assistance they were asking for. It was me and one other person in the store browsing...she had time and I was being very patient. She just didn't want to be bothered. I guess their preorders are separately handled and sent over from a warehouse - which I didn't know, and my order wasn't ready. I found the vinyl I ordered on the wall and asked a simple question of if I could just purchase that one and they could cancel the order I placed for pick up since I don't live in the area. Instead of a customer-first answer (I would have even accepted a kind "I'm sorry, it's against our policy, we can't do that") I was met with attitude and blatant annoyance by Cam. It was as if I was being scolded rather than kindly informed of their process. Good thing there's lots of other really cool record shops around these days. It's very unfortunate I have to write this review but with how I was just treated, I have to. When I first walked in I didn't feel like a customer. The guy working there didn't greet me at all, ( I seen him greet other people). So that to me was a red flag but ok what ever. As I'm minding my business and searching through the stacks of records, he, (the guy who works there comes over and pushes the records back to the wall aggressively like he was upset. So I ask was it because of me, because I guess I left the records leaning forward against the box they were in. He said yes you need to push them back because you're damaging the records. As I tried to explain to him that I didn't know that and this is my first time buying records, he walked off on me dismissing what I had to say. So I took it as he couldn't hear me, so when he came over again, I tried to tell him, but I felt like he just couldn't care less of what I was saying so I decided to get what records I had at the time and leave. As I was buying my collection of records I let him know in front of the other customers that he made me feel real uncomfortable with the way I was being treated about the records, because a simple "hey just fyi, if you leave the records leaning forward like that they could be damaged", would had sufficed. The fact that I didn't see any signs warning customers of that should be where great customer service should come in. I'm pretty sure the owners of this record shop expect all their employees to exemplify great customer service. I said all that to say, whoever the guy is that worked 7/21/26 during the opening shift- (I was there around 1:30pm) needs to do better with how he interacts with customers because I really liked that record shop and now I feel like I don't need to go there anymore. read more

This is the worst experience that I've ever had ordering something online. I ordered a vinyl on March 17th, it started shipping on March 18th, the last update I got was on March 19th as it had moved to another state. It has been 38 days with no updates, radio silence, it is still in the US. They are refusing to give me a refund or to even contact UPS and give me information about my package, they refuse to admit any wrong-doing in the situation although I'm literally being defrauded. How long is my package going to stay in the US and it not be their fault? read more

This is the best record store in the East Bay. They have a large selection of both new and used vinyl. The used is reasonably priced. The store people are very helpful. This is also the best first stop on Record Store Day. Even if you don't snag a reservation, you can come in just after noon and usually find that golden nugget you are looking for. read more

I think this place has a dope selection and initial vibe. I've been here at least 5 times and have bought a handful of records but thats not the reason for this review. More often than not in my 5 trips, I have felt very unwelcomed by their staff. I am no vinyl head by any stretch and sometimes I have questions about specific records. The employees of this store give off a snotty attitude and constantly give me the feeling that I either regret asking them a question or wish I'd take my business elsewhere. Overall they likely have the rock/punk record you're looking for, but be prepared to pay an above average price and its a true flip of the coin on whether you'll be met by a cordial staff member. read more

A dropped of several albums, they 'gave' me a $50 store credit, when I went to use (admittedly several months), they would not honor the credits; or really even tried to come up with a working solution. Great store with more than fair prices, and a broader selection that you'd expect at a punk store. A good amount of 45's which is requisite of any deserving record store. It's so nice to get greeted when you come in and not get any stereotypical cool record store snooty High Fidelity interaction. "The guy behind the counter" even remarked to my kid, which is so cool. Supplementary fact - they have their own record label, and I've snagged some of their releases, along with limited edition T-shirts. Did mail order on these through their website and everything was mailed professionally and timely, too. They sell on discogs and even have semi regular 10% off sales there. Being next to The Homeroom mac'n cheese shop. Park (sometimes painfully) once and you can shop and eat well. 1-2-3-4 Go did have a shop in SF that sadly closed a few years ago. Equally good and great selection there. My only beef and the docking of 1 star is their carrying of stereo equipment refurbished by Play House Artifacts. That one's a bad business IMHO as I learned the hard way. Avoid their stuff and enjoy the vinyl! read more

This is probably one of the best record stores in the entire Bay Area. It's got a huge selection of new/sealed LPs of all the popular artists you can think of (and some that you can't). Everything is well organized. I think they do this because they have a pretty decent online store, so it necessitates the organization of their shelves. Hell, even their used sections are alphabetized! The pricing for the new LPs are pretty reasonable. They're pretty much on-par for what you can find online, give or take a few bucks. Their used LP prices can be a crap shoot, but also generally fair. read more

1-2-3-4 Go! Records is a short walk from the MacArthur BART station in the Temescal neighborhood. It is owned by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day who is a native of East Bay & still lives here. I moved to the East Bay a little over 1.5 years ago. I also thought that the first business in the East Bay owned by a Green Day member would be going to Rudy's Can't Fail diner owned by Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt yet I still have to visit it. I have been a Green Day fan since Dookie was released way back in my Freshman year of High School back in 1994. I am a product of the 1990s & feel that Green Day was a key band of my generation. So cool that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members still live in the East Bay & have businesses here. So 1-2-3-4 Go! Records specializes in vinyl. I never have gotten into vinyl yet appreciate the large album covers that allows for more proper showcases of the artwork to go w/ the album & here the sound is superb. Besides vinyl they sell cassette tapes which I actually remember a long, long time ago. 1-2-3-4-Go! Records has both new & used albums. They also buy records, tapes, & CDs so bring them in if you are going minimalist or Bobby Digital. They also have a small selection of CDs which is more my thing. They have a really impressive selection of albums including rare albums & boxed sets. For example they had the box set of CDs of the Stooges classic album Funhouse w/ all the outtakes on several discs. One of the coolest things here I found was a discount section of CDs that had a great selection of albums at truly affordable prices for only $2 or so each as this including some albums w/ additional DVD disc to go w/ the CD for the same price. Besides albums in vinyl, cassette tape, or CD there are live shows in the store. Shows range from $5 to $15. There was 5 shows listed in Dec & 3 shows listed for Jan. Billie Joe Armstrong himself played a special benefit show here benefiting those affected by the tragic Ghost ship fire. Last but not least is there is an old school photo booth here. Definitely worth a stop in here if in the neighborhood & it is directly across from another Billie Joe Armstrong store Broken Guitars which is a rad guitar shop. Both these shops are right near Homeroom, the famous Oakland Mac n Cheese restaurant that has vegan Mac n Cheese w/ heaps of toppings to customize it. I will have to check out Homeroom as it has been on my radar for some time. More than 20 of my friends have reviewed it some giving it 5 stars while others feel underwhelmed by it. Never have I seen a place more hot & cold since the now defunct Juliano's Raw restaurant in Santa Monica. I will have to visit Homeroom soon to judge from experience myself! read more

Went here with a friend who recently got a new record player. They limit the number of people inside and give you hand sanitizer when you do go inside. The staff is super friendly and very helpful even to people like me that know nothing about records. They seemed to have a fairly decent selection. There was a couple people inside looking through every record. If you have to wait outside there are spray painted place icons which is helpful. They also have cds and cassettes which I loved. Prices are about average maybe a bit lower than what you'd pay to buy an album. Defficiently go back. read more

love the selection! i don't listen to punk at all, more of a pop girlie, so i was a bit apprehensive, but they had a lot of my fave artists + fun colored pressings. i bought harry styles self titled (which has been out of stock recently everywhere else) and lavender country, a gay country album i had never heard of but was excited to find. my hs1 vinyl was scratched when i opened it, but they let me exchange it and were super chill about it. definitely planning to go back as i saw a lot of stuff i'd like to get eventually (mistki, kd lang, st vincent, gerry cinnamon, lady gaga, orville peck, olivia rodrigo, etc) read more

The shop is okay. It's clean and well organized. Definitely not anyplace you are going to find deals. It's on the expensive side. The worst part about it is the staff. I was in there for over half an hour, closer to 45 minutes and not one single person greeted me or offered to help me find anything. The place was not busy and there were multiple staff members chopping it up with each other. I know some record shops kind of pride themselves on their pretentiousness, I guess this is one of those places. I won't be back, there is nothing special enough about this place for me overlook the poor service. read more

I used to shop here a lot and have bought plenty of records that I was pretty happy with. But on several occasions I would see a record listed on their website for one price and then go to the store only to see it marked up. So the first time I figured, "ok, people make mistakes, maybe they didn't update their website. Do I still want the record, yeah" So I buy it. But over time the records I would buy from them would have issues and again like many other people here, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. If you are buying a used record for more than, say $20-$30, that record should be thoroughly checked for skips or playback issues. For some reason they don't do that here. So over time my confidence in buying high priced used records from this store went down. What made me stop buying from this store is that on one particular day I bought a new record for Record Store Day for like $22-$25. I promptly went home and saw the same record listed for $9-$12 dollars elsewhere. As upset as I was to have been overcharged for something so badly, I went to the clerk the next time I went to buy records and just asked for clarification for why they would mark a record up so high. All I was looking for was a reasonable explanation of some kind like, "Hey, Bay Area rent is crazy." And I would have been cool with it. But the clerk just looked at me and said they didn't know what I was talking about and turned away from me. I've never come back since then. Once and a while I do see a record that they have that looks interesting, but 9/10 times I can find it cheaper somewhere else, shipping included. It's sad, but I'm not going to support a business that treats me badly when I walk in there, charges too much, and doesn't have quality control on their used products. read more

I cannot recall in my life encountering a more cold and unfriendly cashier at a place of business. Apropos nothing. Just browsed for 20 minutes and checked out with a couple records. It was middle aged white guy with short buzzed hair that smokes cigs. It's honestly weird that this one cashier's dark energy is enough that I'll never go into this shop again - and I walk past it every day. What is this guy doing in Oakland? Finally a small independent record store in my neighborhood. Steve-o who runs the place is a good dude and has solid taste in music. The shop is small, but perfect size for what a good specialty store should be. Don't bother looking for the latest crunk or hyphy hits here, unless E-40 and Mistah F.A.B. have started sporting leather jackets and mohawks. Within this spacious 10x12 compound you will find a haven for punk and independent rock records and some choice selections of ska/reggae and even a little country.. Mostly all vinyl but you'll see whatever else he can cram on the shelves here as well. Small shops like this have been all but crushed by Amoeba in SF and Berkeley, so do you part to help keep this place afloat. read more

tl/dr: Not just the finest record store in Temescal but the finest in the entire Bay Area. Organized, well stocked, reasonable prices, tapes galore, and bonus of a live music venue! I love flipping through records it's cathartic and for whatever reason comforts me like almost nothing else. 1-2-3-4 Go Records (1234 henceforth) has really nailed the experience. The store is small but not claustrophobic and everything has this natural flow to the browsing. What I really appreciate the most is how they organize the records by meticulously listing in alphabetical order, mostly by genre. What caps it off is that they don't typically have individual band/artist names sectioned out. This invites you do some exploritory thumbing through the stacks. Fret not though because the alpha is super organized -- it's basically kept in library order spot if you have a specific artist you're looking for it's easy to locate that Kanye banger. 1234 is also has tapes, which is cool for someone, mostly my brother who has a strange affection for the media. I bought him a Tool's album Undertow for like $8 which is typically much more expensive on cassette. I generally love the prices on everything there. On top of the amazing selection 1234 is a record label and has live shows in the back. While I have never gone to one they seem to be popular with people of all ages attending. I should really go to a show there one of these days. Last point, the owner is a local and takes a ton of pride in Oakland and the betterment of the city. Purchasing from 1234 give you the added bonus of supporting a locally owned small business that gives a ton back to the community. read more

Record Store Day brought all of the music nerds to this shop in the wee hours of the morning. I thought this place was a secret among the punk and indie crowd but I guess I was wrong. Maybe because they opened at 8am, everyone decided to make this their first stop. I'm not sure. In fact, someone in line told me that people were lined up as early as 5am! That's dedication. They offered coffee and vegan donuts to us early risers. James Williamson of the Stooges was signing records and the owners had planned a couple of other happenings throughout the day at this location. Overall, this experience was excellent. I scored all of the records on my list and I was able to help some friends out and pick some titles up for them. I didn't find everything for everyone but I left here satisfied. Prices here were pretty reasonable as well. Nobody was elbowing each other...and I didn't have to reach over people like I did in previous years at a different record store. I even scored a tote bag for spending over a certain amount and a 10% off coupon during my next visit. You can bet I'll be back here again, especially since I have friends and good food nearby in the area. read more

Probably my favorite local record store, although it's a toss-up between them, Econo Jam, and Stranded. Well-curated used selection, and I recently discovered their treasure trove of "bargain bin" records. The staff is kind and good-spirited, and it helps that you can purchase on their Discogs page for in-store pick-up, as well as posting on their various social medias when they get in large hauls of certain genres (my heart skipped a beat a few years back when they got in a cavalcade of used Gary Numan records). Additionally, when it comes to Record Store Day, this is THE place to go. My god. Every time I've gone here for RSD, they almost always have every single release that I'm looking for. 1-2-3-4 Go! is a GREAT store if you're mostly looking for Punk and/or Hardcore records. They consistently get great (and RARE) records in these genres as it seems this is the go-to spot for people to dump their collections. Also, an amazing place to get hard-to-find cassette tapes. I can't tell you how many times I've purchased Misfits/Danzig related tapes (OG black shell Plan 9 pressings) from here as presents for people. Where do they all come from?? I don't know, but keep 'em coming! Pros: -Great selection of Punk/Hardcore (to a lesser extent other genres too) (new and used) -Probably the best selection of hard-to-find cassettes in the Bay Area -Bathroom you can actually use. -They do shows in the backroom, and it's always a great time. Cons: -Typically their prices on New L.P.'s are about $2-$5 more than most other record stores around, but I'm guessing it's because their facilities are so nice? Overall, 1-2-3-4 Go! is an asset to the Bay Area record collecting community, and you should check it out, and see for your self. read more

I wish my hometown had this kind of record store when I was growing up! The serious record collector will love it, but the more casual listener will feel right at home also, while maybe discovering their new favorite band in the process. The store is just COOL (do you see that gorgeous photo-booth?!). A killer selection of music by day and oftentimes an awesome intimate venue for shows at night, this place deserves a visit STAT!
