I had made an appt today, a month ago, for Salvation Army to pick up an elliptical machine, they didn't come after I took the day off from work and sat around all day. They said they came but my doorman never saw them. So in a panic I called Got Junk. Kate was the service operator and was extremely sweet and helpful and got me an appointment on the same day so I wouldn't have to take yet another day off. She was patient enough with me to do it in the time frame my building would allow. When the gentleman came to pick it up, Henny and Eric they were very friendly and took care it it very quickly. Although I had to pay for it instead of a donation, I would recommend the company and use them again. It was quick, easy, and nice people to deal with. I had an old mattress that the mattress company "forgot" to take when they brought my new one. After a week of fighting nothing was done. I got fed up and called 1800gotjunk at 10:30 am today, but 11:30 am, the mattress was gone!! The men who came, Angel and Emmanuel, were so nice and quick and the whole process was done in 5 minutes. This is my suggestion, even though it seems like a pain, ask for someone to come out to review your junk and get an exact estimate. this way you will know if you want to use them or check out other pricing. if you do it just over the phone prices may really vary and you could be upset at the final total guys who moved me fabulous so nice. read more

I had I-800-GOT-JUNK remove some furniture and debris from my terrace this morning, and am really pleased with their service. This morning at 9 AM, I called a different service I had found online that promised same-day removal service in Manhattan, only find out they were booked up for a week. I tried 1-800-GOT-JUNK after - and they were able to have two removal servicemen at my apartment by 10 AM. Henny and Antoine were courteous and efficient, and finished the removal within 20 minutes, even taking time to sweep my apartment building entry to make sure no debris was left. The team of James and Glenn exceeded expectations when they did my office cleanout on Tuesday. They arrived within the first 45 minutes of their window and were careful and conscientious in moving things across our wood floors and loading the elevator without having things touch walls. James deftly took a sledgehammer to oversized items that needed to be broken down. At the same time James and Glenn were doing their thing I had two other pairs of people loadng out other items going elsewhere, and they were able to work with and around each other, resulting in a very successful experience that ended exactly on time. The icing on the cake was when I realized on my ride home that I hadn't gotten a copy of my receipt. A second later Glenn texted me when he noticed the same, then texted me a picture of the receipt. Several thoughts. The workers who showed up were prompt and efficient. However, their pricing is less than transparent. They will give you an estimate that is almost certainly low, probably 50% or less of the actual cost. The minimum charge for one item is $220..... Let that sink in. They don't tell you that for a 1/4 truck the price jumps to $470 plus tax. My dresser, night stand, book shelf, 4 lamps, 4 miscellaneous boxes was 1/4 truck. A full truck is over $1,500. This to haul to a truck and take to a landfill. They won't tell you the price until they see the goods, so if you have arranged your day around them be prepared to suck it up and pay a HUGE HUGE fee to get rid of junk. Next, their technology is bad - paper receipt where they write your credit card info invites fraud -- no hand scan or swipe -- where the $$$ go to I don't know. Finally, the guys called twice to say they could be early, which I suppose is nice, but pressured us to complete sorting junk in a less than optimal fashion. For future dumping I will NOT use these guys and wait for the city disposal day. read more

Okay, they were fantastic. The crew - Carlos V, Johnny and Candace - made the experience so easy. My Dad had had his apartment for nearly 60 years and there was plenty to get rid of. My experience with 1-800-Got-Junk was dismal. A salesman came up to my office,spent 20 minutes there taking pictures and looking around. I received a written estimate which I was required to sign, in the amount of $1850. When the men showed up and worked for awhile they decided that they needed more trucks to finish the job. The salesman asked to speak to me and upped the cost to $3000 saying that he underestimated the cost because the women in the office had said they were taking 3 file cabinets. Instead of taking 3 cabinets they only took one and a half -which they took by car. Another words the 1 and half file cabinets not taken now required 1 and a half extra trucks thus practically doubling my cost! The men had to unscrew 2 closets of metal shelves and for this task they brought only one screw driver. At least an hour was spent talking on the phone with the manager and salesman discussing the price. I had to vacate my office as my lease was up and I had no choice but to continue with them. Had they given me the $3000 estimate I would have brought in other companies to bid on the job. In addition to everything else they did not finish the job and had to come back the next day costing me an extra $350 in rent. They stopped working at 4:15 and spent the next 45 minutes on the phone with the salesman discussing the fact that I refused to pay them until they finished the job. The manager called me at night to apologize for the debacle but refused to honor his written estimate nor acknowledge the fact that I now had to pay another day's rent. I called the corporate office but they could care less. All in all it was a bait and switch experience. If I could put zero stars I would but yelp does not allow less than one star! read more

Steven and Glenn were great! I had a Queen sized mattress in a loft sleeping area, and was prepared for it to be a complicated process or ropes and pulleys to get it out, but Steven expertly leaned it over the edge and caught it at the bottom like it was nothing! He was quick and extremely personable. The price, however was definitely more than expected. I'm glad my mattress will be recycled and not end up in a landfill, but the price they gave me on arrival was $65 more than the price I was given on the phone, which was already double what it would have been if I had added the service on as part of ordering my new Casper mattress. All in all, it was a positive experience and I paid for the convenience of having something done that I couldn't have handled on my own. read more

I work at a clothing retailer in Manhattan and we always request for Got-Junk trunks every few months. I've worked with a lot of these guys but I've luckily by chance had the opportunity to have Casey do the junk removal for my store twice. His work ethic is incomparable to the others of this company. He goes above and beyond, he's very courteous and thorough with the job. He called about arriving late with the truck but was very transparent about what was holding him up (a previous job site that had more things to take care of than expected). When he did arrive with his partner, they really packed the truck with all the garbage we had which was much appreciated because we had a lot to get rid of. Everything was fit inside the truck like a giant puzzle. He asks the right questions, he does his best, and everything was much appreciated. read more

Plus, they only send out two workers which would not suffice for a fourth floor walk-up building. There were some issues with the workers' performance and we were eventually able to reconcile the situation with their main office. Got Junk? Give these guys a call. Spoke to the call center on the phone and scheduled an appointment for the next day at around 8am. Was expecting them to be late however they were about ten minutes early. Rashawn and Shawn were very respectful and they also worked professionally. After about 1 hour all my junk was removed and my bill paid. Could not have been any happier. Sure prices seem high but this is Manhattan what do you expect. SCREWED. That's how I feel after my 2'nd experience with this rip-off company. I planned the morning to help them get a parking space IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE, arrived early WITH MY PERSONAL VEHICLE to secure a space after the STREET SWEEPER passed, waiting over an hour, and was able to park my vehicle AND THEIRS IN FRONT, to make their work EASY. I called the 800 number TWICE before the appointment on Tuesday to confirm and to state that the number of bags had in fact doubled. They told me on the phone that this was "no problem" and that they would be able to take everything that I expected that day. They said that I was "exceptionally nice" and they appreciated that. So, after confirming that the price for a full load was $900.00, naturally I was relieved. When the truck had finally parked and one of the guys showed me a price list by-the-load, he then flipped it over and showed me that I would also be an additional charge based on the weight; something that was not explained to me over the phone previously; just surprised me with it the morning of the appointment. So, what choice did I have but to agree and let them get started getting rid of all the bags of debris and wood??? I was not told of the "weight" charge until the truck arrived. I have used you before, and there was no extra "weight" charge. I communicated by phone and email that "the load" had in fact doubled. I carefully pre-bagged most of the load, and I even helped bring the bags and wood from the upstairs and put a lot of wood debris within easy reach at the sidewalk and outside ground floor door. Now I'm stuck with 55 bags still in the basement, and the remainder of would that I had planned to have removed. I am mostly disappointed that the truck was not loaded with care; I had expected to get rid of 100 bags of debris and the wood was only 1/6 load by itself. Because of the willy-nilly, lazy and disorganized method the guys loaded the truck, my expectations for the price charged were not met. I am sorry that we will not be doing business again. read more

The estimate was 1/2 the eventual cost but that may be predictable and forgivable. They cleaned out a basement that may have been hard to estimate anyway. What rankled was the company's insistence that the truck was completely full when it wasn't. The foreman closed up the truck before I saw it but my wife looked down from the second floor and could see it was only 3/4 full. This was a difference in price of $250 so no small matter. Sneaks usually attribute untrustworthiness to everyone else so I was asked for 2 forms of I.D. before they would accept payment other than cash. read more

One of the worst service experiences ever. Even one of their service agents said, "If we treated everyone the way we've treated you today, we couldn't stay in business." We were given a window of between 12:30pm and 2:30pm. At 1:30, we called in to check on the arrival time and were told that the time frame had been pushed back to 3:30-4:00pm. At 3:20, we called again. This time we were told the time had been moved back to 4:30-5:00pm. At 5:00, we called yet again. 25 minutes later, we were told that they had run into a problem at 4:00pm and could not make the pick-up. Would we like to reschedule another day? We wasted five hours waiting for people who never showed up. If we hadn't called at 5:00pm, how much longer would we have waited in vain? No company should treat its paying customers so poorly. If we ever have junk to get rid of, I won't be calling these people again. Be warned. read more

Called for an appointment, received a time between 2:30-4:30. Called to confirm on the day, was told between 3:00-5:00. Received a call that they were running late, could not make it until 6:30-7:00. No apologies, nothing. Said that some recycling places were closed on that Saturday. Offered to re-schedule but we wanted items removed before Christmas. There have been very few times that I have worked with companies that are up-front, positive, and work hard to please their customers. This was one of those times. I spoke with a wonderful man about some items that I needed removed from an apartment I was moving out of and he was more than willing to set me up with what I needed. He helped me find a time that worked for me - they were very flexible and worked around my schedule. He also very professional and told me the prices up front and how everything would work, which I appreciated that a lot. When the workers got there they were all very hard-working - they worked with a great sense of urgency all while remaining personable and very easy to work with. If you are in the Manhattan area and need stuff removed from your home, office, apartment, etc cetera - I would absolutely recommend.
