I recently used 800 Got Junk to remove a truckload of junk from my house. The two men who did the work did a fine job. But the company's pricing is outrageous. Not just too high, but dishonest. They give you a quote for taking away a truckload of junk for $999. After they show up and get halfway through loading the truck, they say it costs extra to remove certain things, including wooden things. Then you find out that the rate for removing wood is sky high. Then come more extras. By the time we got done, the cost of removing one truckload of junk went from $999 to $2,100. I'll never do business with them again! read more

At 11:45, we got a call saying they just realized they couldn't unload their truck until after 1pm and that they would have to drive 70 minutes to get another truck (one way). They wouldn't arrive until at least 2-3pm. Customer service did not care. You have an appointment time; why wouldn't you plan ahead on logistics? They should have given her an estimate beforehand, which Would never have approved. They essentially took advantage of my wife. The 2 guys were timely and very good...but what happened to you show them what you want removed, they give you a quote to which you accept or decline. A sofa and love seat maybe 2 feet from the front door and was quoted close to $350.00, no thank you. We will take to the curb for $100.00, again no thank you. They walk out and a few minutes later we can do it for $200.00. Tracy refused to do a major part of the job that was requested and the central office office offered no help. One star review for 1 800 Got Junk. This company lies about what the removal will really cost you when you book them over the phone. They don't tell you the real price of what it is going to cost you until their crew arrives at your location to remove the junk. I called to have furniture removed from my Father's Apartment after he passed away. I had to clean out his Apartment for his Landlord after the funeral. I called 1 800 Got Junk and a representative booked the removal for me. On the phone that representative asked me to specifically list all items that were to be removed from the Apartment so he could give me the most accurate estimate of what the price would be for the removal. I told the representative everything. I was very specific. The representative told me it shouldn't cost me anymore than $350 for the removal. He said at most $400. But he was pretty sure it would be closer to $350. I thought this was a good price to remove the junk. So I booked the removal. The day of the removal their crew shows up and says before they work they have to do another on-site estimate. So I let them in and showed them everything. Now they tell me the price is going to be at least $1200 or more. I lost it. I started yelling at them. They laughed at me for being upset and they told me that it was impossible that any representative would give me an over the phone estimate because they aren't allowed to do that. I told them I was not lying and this representative absolutely did tell me that estimate. They refused to call management and try to resolve this. They just insisted that this was going to be between $1200 and $1400 and that was that. Either I hired them or tell them to leave and choose someone else. As much as I wanted to dismiss them I had an international flight to take the next day and the Landlord was being real pushy with me to remove my Father's things, so I was forced to hire them. The final bill was $1285. I was livid. I called corporate to try to get money back on this. They played phone tag with me and gave me a whole bunch of numbers to call. I ended up leaving my e-mail address with a regional manager who promised to get back to me on all of this but never did and stopped accepting my calls. In my opinion this 1 800 Got Junk owes me back $800. This company is bait & switch. They lie. They tell you a fake low price to get you to book them and then they switch it for three times that price when they show up and put you on the spot so you're pretty much forced to hire them. The guys picking up the items were nice and friendly enough and made sure not to damage my home while removing items. I had some heavy items that I couldn't move on my own and a queen mattress adjustable base that had to be taken apart. I would just say $600 is pretty high. I usually use the College hunks and only paid $400 for a Queen mattress and full bedroom set but, it is what it is. No one picks up furniture for free anymore and I don't trust selling things online, So you're kind of at the mercy of these companies especially when someone has passed away and you are overwhelmed trying to go through their entire life. I also asked that my items be donated because mostly everything was in decent condition but they way things were thrown into the truck, pretty sure this didn't happen. College Hunks Hauling Junk send you a tax receipt after they take your items to habitat for humanity. I like to donate, so if this company ruins your items while loading them and can't donate, I may as well have saved my money and waited until bulk removal. read more

The men worked quickly and somehow picked up an item - carefully packaged - of very high emotional value (doll furniture collection my daughter had made). We only discovered the error when our moving van arrived without this and we reviewed (in slow motion) the video we had made of the junk pile and the area holding everything to be moved. We just called the general 1-800 phone number, and they were here the next day to pick up our heavy, over-sized junk. Even though it was raining, they didn't get a single dirty spot on our floors or walls. They were very fast, and very discreet. They weren't loud; they didn't call attention to us. Showed up on time, the work then filled the truck, came back that afternoon with another ruck and continued work. The truck leaked some oil on my pavers. Called the local GM and he came out and removed the stains. Service was great, response to issue was better. Would highly recommend service. would be better if they came with a truck that could take the whole load, not partially filled from another job, but I understand the economics. They called when they said they would, showed up right on time, the estimate was fair, and they stood behind their quote even when there turned out to be some twists and turns clearing out 90+ years of junk in my parents' home. Four men showed up, and they were INCREDIBLE! They waded through a crawlspace under the porch and cleared out all kinds of nastiness that had gotten flooded during Hurricane Sandy and hadn't been touched, cleaned out a 2nd floor that was packed to the rafters and a basement that you couldn't walk through, not to mention the backyard with all its "treasures" and a falling down shed full of random rusted tools. Many of our friends said they would be too expensive, but when you figure out the cost of a dumpster, plus your hard work (or hiring people) to load the dumpster, it was really very reasonable and everything was gone in one day. I really felt like the Queen of England just waving my hand and making junk disappear. HIRE THEM, don't debate it, it is WORTH EVERY PENNY!
