My wife and I went around the jewelry district looking for a diamond. We went to a few places before talking to Elan and his family. The first thing I liked about this place was that it wasn't in one of the huge jewelry places with dozens of other jewelers. We went to one of those places and it just seemed too chaotic. 1 800 Diamonds was in an office building and had its own secure and private space. You have to buzz in to get into the space. After that we spoke to Elan who was very friendly and knowledgeable. We also got to speak to his parents who were also wonderful people. I didn't get the sense that they were trying to upsell us or pressure us to buy, which we appreciated. They explained all our options to us and even told us they could do custom work which was helpful in our case. They also work quickly if you have any custom work done which is nice. The only issue with being downtown is parking is tough. Other than that I have nothing but positive things to say about this business. One would think, given the persistence of this steadfast tradition, diamond shopping would be a relatively transparent process. Well... not so much. He and I had discussed THE engagement ring numerous times, and he also knew my very particular tastes so he wanted to ensure I was sigh and gush with whatever would adorn that important finger. At the time we started seriously inquiring, I was enough fortunate to have acquired a fair knowledge in diamonds. I knew what I was looking for, and which factors weighed heavier than others in order to yield the best result possible. In other words, get the most bling out of our... well, his bucks. And those were a lot bucks. LOL. We both had a very specific image of the setting and the diamond that would sit in it. The hard part would be bringing said idea into actual fruition. We had contacted 6..8...10 other jewelers who did not impress me at all. It was like searching for a physician for a newborn!. That did nothing but aggravate us, moreso me. The end result: a stunning 1.3 practically colorless/ flawless cushion cut stone, surrounded by nearly 70 beautiful diamonds-- just shy of a carat. A total weight of 2.20 carats to be exact. Blingy isn't even an accurate adjective. After what felt like way too long, my now fiance proposed. Since adorning my finger, not one person has survived staring at it without extending a book's worth of compliments. More importantly, even after having possessed the ring for weeks now, Elan has not ceased to check in to ensure the ring continues to make me proud.
