Chris is one heck of a diamond expert and his customer service is second to none. We bought our wedding ring in 1999 and upgraded our band about 10 years ago. All throughout Chris has been there for me from any adjustments, cleaning, or any other concerns I had. Last time I needed adjustment, not only was I met with inconsistent customer service but also was charged $200. Chris has never once charged me even when diamonds needed to be replaced. After reading all the great reviews I made an appointment here to see Chris and I was so disappointed that he didn't understand what I was looking for and didn't seem to care either. Now I absolutely don't blame them for not keeping an inventory of diamonds to show people, but I had been pretty specific in my consultation request as to what I was looking for so when he showed me what he had, it was completely not aligned with what I was thinking. As I was trying to describe what I was thinking, he just kept missing the mark. If he even could've shown me a photo of what he thought I was looking for, despite my being very specific then maybe I would've considered working with him, but he just doesn't know what a good diamond looks like or maybe he does but thinks I'm an idiot and I don't know and he can sell me some cheap ugly diamond . The diamonds he had were completely asymmetrical crushed ice with huge bow ties and he was just so fixated on keeping the price low despite not discussing budget (like how do you know I'm not willing to spend more for a beautiful diamond? Just because I asked or lab grown you assume I want something cheap?). I left feeling like they really couldn't care less- maybe they have enough business and didn't need my "low budget" project. Also, he said if I wanted to work with him I had to commit to him and not shop around elsewhere- whaaat?? No way man- that's pretty bold of you to ask that and not a single other retailer I went to mentioned anything similar. Sorry I'm not committing to trusting your terrible taste. The Los Angeles Jewelry District is the only place to buy jewelry, but knowing what shops are the best can be difficult. Before getting on the train from San Diego to Los Angeles yesterday I went to Yelp to help guide me to the best shops and The Diamond Bank had such good reviews I added them to my list. I just happened to go to the The Diamond Bank first and met with Chris and showed him what I needed....a ring fixed (diamond missing), an old ring re-sized and changed from yellow gold to white gold, and some diamonds taken out of a very sentimental ring to be made into earrings and a pendant. In years past I would have just gone to the shops on the bottom floor of the building, but this experience was much different and so much better. I now have someone I can trust with any jewelry wants/needs. After getting a quote to get these things done, Chris was supportive of me going to other places on my list to compare prices. The other shops (also on my Yelp approved list) were good, but a bit higher in price so I decided to have Chris take care of what I needed. I really wanted to have an amazing experience here. All-in-all, I would say my experience was mediocre at best. I'm glad to see so many others have had great experiences. I debated for a while whether or not to write a review, but finally decided that honesty is the best policy. Allow me to provide context: this is the jeweler who designed my engagement ring. I will say that, in general, I am satisfied with the ring. I am happy with the quality and look. Thus, my final review rating reflects less about the quality of the product and more about my overall experience with Chris. I will admit that I am particular, which is why my fiancé decided early on that I should choose my ring. I loved the idea of designing a unique, custom ring. I had heard about Jewelry Mart in Downtown LA and decide to look around. We happened upon Chris at the Diamond Bank and were initially impressed with his friendly demeanor and conversation. He took a lot of time explaining rings and considerations for engagement rings. We described an idea of what I would like for my ring; he took some notes, but we weren't ready to commit yet although excited for the prospect of working with him. After talking with some other jewelers, we settled on The Diamond Bank. After some initial texting, we started to design the ring. I will acknowledge that, when Chris first followed up, we were on a cruise, so communication was sparse. However, as time went on, it felt as if we were not a priority for Chris. I acknowledge that it did take a bit of time for me to decide the specific design of the ring, but there were frequently at least 1 or 2 day waits and up to one week several times before Chris would respond to my text messages. There were even times when I would follow up a couple of days later via text with no response. I know that the ring we ultimately bought was not very expensive, but the treatment and lack of response made me feel like I wasn't a priority. Also, we were not in a rush for the ring and didn't give a hard deadline, however, after 2 months of frustrating lags, I decided to pass the responsibility to follow up and finalize the design to my fiancé. The worst part was that, when I stopped in with my sister and mother to check on the progress, Chris told my mother that the reason the ring took so long to make was because I didn't know what I wanted. While it did take me time to figure it out, he neglected to mention that he often took days if not one week to respond. The evidence is in my text message thread. Thus, while I'm generally happy with the overall look of the ring (even though there are minor changes I would like made), this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and has tainted my ring a bit. Needless to say, I will not be back. If I could rate the service alone, I would probably rate it 2, but I would rate the overall quality and price of the ring as 4. Thus, 3 stars seemed like a reasonable compromise. I hope your experience is better than mine, but this experience was problematic enough that I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more
