Initially, you're contacted by a receptionist-type staff member who sounds very knowledgeable and reassuring, giving the impression that they will take care of everything. Once payment is made and the case begins, the experience changes significantly. Throughout my husband's case, we were assigned four different attorneys. Each time, we were never informed proactively--we only learned of a new attorney after repeatedly calling as court dates approached, often right up against deadlines. This continued all the way through my husband's sentencing, which is unacceptable for something so serious. At one point, we were told that the owner of the practice, Michael, would be handling negotiations and appearing in court. He negotiated the deal but did not show up to court, and we were instead reassigned--again--to another attorney who appeared to be there simply to stand in, with minimal familiarity or advocacy. While they did refund half of the money, which signals they were aware they had not upheld their end of the agreement, the reality is that very little substantive work was done relative to what was promised. This was an extremely stressful and disorganized experience during an already critical time. I would not recommend this firm to anyone needing consistent representation, clear communication, or accountability. read more

They were anything but UNPROFESSIONAL. My lawyer was always late, she didn't fight for me, and she kept postponing the court dates even though I had evidence that could have closed the case. They just took my money. They told me I would get a refund, but they never sent it, and they blocked me because I kept asking about my refund. The saddest part is I want my REFUND and civilly asked for it back ME the CLIENT. And my request is not being answered so I guess I have to hire another lawyer to help me obtain that is mine. read more

Very misleading. Beware - it's not a retainer you're signing - it's a document basically telling you no matter if they spend the minimal time (and they will) on your case, the money you are required to 'initially' pay will never be returned - they do not provide any accounting of hours actually spent. They do not keep you informed or return calls. We had an attorney quit and we're not told. The second one was okay and helped to get the case dismissed but was obviously overworked. The hourly rate is the same as more reputable firms. Don't be fooled by their online bologna. I would never recommend or use this firm again. So I was able to attain the most amazing lawyer through this website. Michael Meehan with Meehan Law Firm was knowledgeable, professional, and able to take over after the first attorney retired. He was able to be honest about the realities of the DMV process and also able to complete an 18 page argument on my behalf for my crazy weird situation. He was communicative, supportive, and direct to the point. Daniel and Brenden from No Cuffs were great on holding my hand understanding my worries and able to communicate affectively during the 3 month process. My hearing was set aside/won and no matter the convoluted situation with multiple circumstantial and hypothetical scenarios of the crazy ordeal, Michael was able to get direct to the point of the law and show how the legalities of the situations were not met. read more

The great rating is for my final lawyer I received at this firm (3rd one ) Jeremy Forsyth. Everyone else wasn't reliable , and had problems with the vision of where my case was going to go . Jeremy listened , he explained every Avenue we could take and patiently worked out what would be the best for myself, without worrying about his workload or what he would have to do to get that result. Not sure why this company has mixed reviews. I unfortunately got arrested for DUI. Reached out to them and got in contact with Micheal Meehan, from what I know he is a leader of the Bay Area team. He stayed in contact with me, kept me updated, even when the DA was being stubborn he was persistent, gave great direction and information for how things needed to be handled. I appreciated all of it cause in the situation you feel like you have no control, it is good to know that it isn't completely over yet and you have someone on your side that is going to work for the best outcome for you. The judge was ordering my appearance and Michael's daily just so that we would give up and take whatever deal the DA suggested, but as I mentioned Michael stayed persistent and showed up with me daily to ensure that the DA and judge knew we were serious about the situation. While my case did have to go to trial (there is additional fees for this) Micheal was able to finally get it across to the DA that my situation deserved a lesser charge. Was able to settle case that day with only very small fees, from what i would have owed, instead of 18 months of class down to 3 months, no DUI, and no more appearances. If you are going to trust your case with anyone I would put my money here. Michael worked hard for me and his work shows in the courtroom. He is well respected by the Judges and DAs. He will put his best foot forward to ensure you get the best out come. And also be straight forward with you on whats possible and what the best and worst possible outcomes can be, he wont try to sell you a dream on what he can make happen if he doesn't see it happening. During consultation they promise you the world and tell you that they have good relationships with district attorneys along with several techniques to handle your case to your advantage which is a lie! My attorney Leigh Fleming was checked out from the beginning. Several times she delayed my trial dates without asking because she had a bigger case to focus on. ( Not my problem when I'm paying thousands of dollars).. My case was not a priority for her. The first offer she pushed me to accept was the same as if I went to court by myself without an attorney.. I had to push back to get her to work harder for a better result.. unbelievable and unacceptable for the money I paid.. As far as a DMV hearing, I know per the comments on the DMV result document that she made a lame half ass attempt to avoid suspension and did not use any information I provided on the intake form or looked into suggested things to confirm my story to challenge the statement by the officer...Results were minimal in my favor. My Dad paid them 5,000$ and they didnt help him resolve the hold that was put on his license from the DMV. And when it came time for my dad to go to court on the DUI they tried to convince my dad to take 16 months in prison because they didn't want to fight for him and my Dad has no record, never been in trouble before, (not even a speeding ticket) so my advice to whoever is looking for a lawyer, save your money and don't invest in these guys because these guys are Crooks. One star is too many. The positive reviews for "no cuffs" read like sponsored content. Don't be fooled. I called in an obviously difficult situation looking for legal help. The 'lawyer/salesman' I was connected with on the phone, Keith Pressman, was engaging and dynamic--citing numerous possible loopholes and legal strategies with enthusiasm. We talked a few times before I eventually signed the retainer and felt a sigh of relief. Then came the waiting. Keith stopped taking my calls and works in LA I found out. The person who would actually be handling my case, Michael Meehan, never called me. Not even to return my calls to him. He was friendly (not an important quality for a legal rep) but flatly condescending and laissez faire towards my case and me, his client. He gained nothing for me, in this, my first (and last) DUI or offence of any kind. His m.o. was to wrap up my case, all but coercing me to sign any offer, ASAP. Do not waste your money. I will admit, I was a bit thrown off when I called this firm, as I am in the bay area, but the person i was talking to was in San Diego. Sadly, my experience with the Kavinoky Law Firm for a first time DUI mirrored that of other negative reviews here. The "intake" person reviewed the facts of my situation and advised that Kavinoky has multiple strategies to help reduce a first time DUI to a lesser charge. I paid $7,000+ and was then referred to attorney Michael Meehan. I was told Mr. Meehan has strong relationships among Sonoma County legal professionals and would be able to get the absolute best outcome for me, especially since this was a first DUI in my 50s, with zero points on my driving record and a BAL just over 0.10. Like the other people who've reviewed him, he never called me. I received an info packed that listed a court date. I called his office and left messages, then called his mobile and left a message. I spoke with the paralegal who sent me the docs who promised he would text Michael and have him call me. Weeks passed. Finally, just over a week before the initial hearing, he returned my call. Said he would enter a not guilty plea and extend the case for another month. Said he spoke to the assitant DA who was willing to go for the lowest punishment for a DUI but no chance for wet reckless. That's it. No discussion, no strategy, nothing. I received another info packet a couple weeks before the pre-trial hearing, including docs reflecting a plea deal for the lowest punishment for DUI. Instructed to sign the docs unless I wanted to spend another $2,000+ to take the matter to trial. I was able to get ahold of Michael who said in Sonoma County there's really no chance to get out of a DUI as long as the blood test comes back higher than 0.08, which mine did. Said if I didn't take the plea, the DA or judge were likely to increase the fine, add jail time or both. At the end of the day, I'm not sure another attorney would have been able to achieve any better results for me. However, I work with a group of terrific corporate attorneys every day. When I shared with them the piss-poor communications, lack of interest or effort and lack of respect shown by Mr. Meehan, they were astonished. Kavinoky spends a ton of money on ads portraying the firm and its attorneys as shrewd and customer-oriented. In fact, Mr. Meehan did nothing more than process paperwork the same as any local hack Yellow Pages lawyer would have, for half the price or less. The five star reviews stuffed with breathless generalizations ("they were great!" "really fantastic lawfirm!" "allstars!" "you can reach them anytime," etc) and all posted around the same date are written by employees or friends and family. I just can't imagine that Mr. Meehan's level of service could be so poor for me and other real customers, and somehow sparkling for these select folks. If I had to do it over again, I would have listened to attorney friends who advised me to ignore the clever ads, find a local Santa Rosa attorney and have a consultation before starting to write checks. Maybe Kavinoky attorneys in other jurisdictions are better, but with Mr. Meehan be prepared to pay five-star prices for one-star service. read more

From the very first time my husband called for a DUI lawyer, everyone was extremely helpful and then we got Michael as our lawyer. I must say he made everything so seamless and easy for us. He explained everything so well for us to fully comprehend what is going on, what to expect and of course he told us what the worse could be. Being new to this whole DUI and dealing with this type of case, I had so much questions and concerns but Michael was always there to answer them even though it was late in the evening. I needed a lawyer for a difficult DUI charge last October and we came across this law firm by researching online. Closer to my court hearing I called them to see what I had to do-- they asked me questions about my DUI and they provided me with a translator (just in case) so I could fully say what I needed to say and understand what was being told to me in my native language. Everyone was nice and helpful and was always there if we had any questions or additional information. I had been in this situation before but this was a more difficult case but Michael Meehan did his very best to get the best possible result for me with the judge and DA. He was very approachable and helpful with any questions we had (and trust me, my wife had many) and he was very patient when things needed to be translated to me in Spanish because he really wanted me to fully understand what was going on. This is a long over due review that I wish I did so much sooner. Do not subject yourself to the dishonesty and lack of fulfillment that they "guarantee." I feel like I got duped. I paid $5,000 to have the same crappy outcome I could have received without paying an arm and a leg. Initially I was assigned to an attorney who was very sweet and helpful, who showed up to my court dates and updated me each time. I was then informed she would be leaving :( and my case would be passed on to someone who was highly experienced and would take great care of my case. A COMPLETE LIE. Here enters Michael Meehan, ugh. I have e-mail exchanges between my attorney, Michael Meehan, and how he lacked updating me on the status of my case. He sent me paperwork that needed to be signed the day it was due, and I received it 4 days later. I e-mailed him about him sending me the paperwork entirely too late and how I was subject to having a warrant due to not responding on time, and he tried to lie and say how it was odd because he sent it after court. A LIE. It was post marked with the day he sent it (the day it was due) and expressed mailed to me. He then replies, literally a quote from his e-mail, "Ok. Then we mailed it late." When I got charged with a DUI I was a wreck. I called several lawyers just to get information on what should be my next step since I was clueless on what to do because it was my first offence. Being a single mom I couldn't afford to pay $3000-$5000 all at once and that's what the lawyers were asking to be able to take my case and I didn't want to go with a public defender because my case was not just for my DUI. My brother then told me to call no cuffs and let me tell you it was one the best decision I have made. The first lawyer I was connected with was Keith Pressman and honestly from day one he made me feel at ease. He was able to work a payment plan with me and even got me a late hearing appointment for the DMV so my license wouldn't be suspended. Whenever I called or texted he would answer right away and if he couldn't at the moment he always got back to me. He answered every question and concerned I had with no hesitation. I was then assigned to Michael Meehan which was the lawyer that handled my case and I am beyond grateful for him. He kept me informed of everything that was going on up to the day we went to court, since I decided to show up with him, and did and amazing job with my case. I hired this law firm to help me with a DUI case. I am more than unhappy with the service I received. They worked really hard on the phone and through email conversation before I hired them. As soon as they got my check it was nearly impossible to to get in touch with them again. they were supposed to go to a DMV hearing which they never did go to. when I spoke with them on the phone they said they had a whole team of people that were going to work on the case for me they have different people that work for the DMV different people that work on try all these different people to do investigations. all of this was not true. The the man I spoke with on the phone who said I would be at my court date representing me I still have yet to meet. there was however another attorney that was sent to represent me in court. she seemed very new and didn't seem to know what was going on with my case at all. I was also told they would take on my case through trial for $5000 which I paid. after I paid they sent me a contract that I signed however after carefully reading the day after my lawyer decided to make a request to the judge to no longer represent me right before my arraignment; I read that they were only going to represent me through the arraignment which they didn't even do. I could continue to go on with all the things that they did not do. My advice is to not hire this company or this law firm. read more
