Do NOT use this company, unless you like horrible customer service and hours long wait times when you call to try to speak to someone. We have had so many issues with the delivery and pick up of the storage containers, the list is too long to even type here. The empty containers that were scheduled to be picked up 2 days ago are still sitting in our driveway. Incredibly frustrating and the last thing you want to have to worry about when moving. --NEGATIVE 100 STARS-- Absolutely HORRIBLE company. DO NOT USE!!! Problems from the very beginning!! Driver did not call til he was sitting in front of my house (was told it'd be a 30 minute heads up), driver did not level the container (was told it'd be leveled and he used 2 pieces of wood) - I had to level it with a piece of wall decor (the only thing I could find that was the right size), otherwise unit would've continued to titter totter while loading it, I had to flag down the driver and ask him for my lock/key that I paid for. Then they were scheduled to pick up my full container on the following Tuesday, hadn't heard anything so I called them at 2:10pm (EST) and was told I was next on the pickup schedule and someone would be there between 2:30-6:30. 6:30 rolls around, no one showed so I called back and was then told someone tried to call me at 1:49pm (so before I called in at 2:10 and was not told they tried to call) but since someone supposedly called and I didn't answer, they skipped my pickup. I never received a phone call (hence why I called them at 2:10 to check up on pick up). So then I was told pickup would be the following morning between 8:30-12:30 - 12:30 rolls around, no one came. I called back yet again - was told it'd now be around 4:30 for pick up. They FINALLY came and got it but the driver made sure to leave the pieces of wood the previous driver used to halfway "level it" laying in my driveway - that was such a nice gift . Then they delayed my delivery to my new house 2 times - delaying it by 5 days. 5 extra days without our furniture. Then I scheduled them to pick up the empty container on Saturday (2 days after delivery) because at this point, I'm sick of dealing with this terrible company - and they didn't show to pick it up AGAIN. I called in and they again claimed I was called and didn't answer (neither I nor my husbands phone, who is also listed on the account so they have both phone numbers, were ever called!) so they again skipped me. Even though my account with them says DO NOT SKIP. They lie and claim they call and no one answered just so they can do whatever they want!! We were even told by the driver that dropped off to our new home that we don't have to be home, they'll just come get it. And the empty container is STILL sitting in my driveway! So to recap - this company is USELESS, full of liars and will certainly take your money but will NOT ONE TIME do what they say or what's agreed upon. I had to wait to leave this review until after I received our storage pod. Our container was delivered over a month late with no communication from Pack Rat. I called them initially when we decided to use them and explained I didn't have a address or date for delivery but I would let them know as soon as I did. Approximately 3 months later, mid March, I I called and gave them the address and asked them to go ahead and move my items to Texas and got a delivery date of May 11th. My family came with us and stayed a week to help us to get all of our things out of the container and up to our 3rd floor apartment. That's when I learned that they hadn't even shipped our container to Texas yet! I was told they would expedite it. So my family left a week later and we had no container. I called and was told again that it still had not been shipped yet. After several calls a week, I learned they finally had it shipped but the locations lift was broken and they could not send the container to us. After several more calls and weeks, I finally spoke with a supervisor and explained that we needed our house! She gave us a date of June 15th. They finally delivered our items on the 15th but informed me that they could not reimburse me for movers. Needless to say, I will be reaching out to corporate about reimbursement for some of my expenses due to their negligence! I would advise you to rent a Uhaul and pay some high school or college kids before contacting Pack Rat! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I couldn't figure out how to give zero stars. - Their online estimator is an underestimator. Guaranteed this online tool will not provide you with the correct number of containers and blow your budget off the bat. As a review of the other comments on this page shows, it is clear that they know this and have not yet fixed it. - They will not inform you of "hidden" costs related to storage and movement costs. - They will NOT deliver on time. - They have POOR customer service. - The one thing that they are great at is quickly charging your card. The story: I used this company to move from my apartment to a new house around NC. I used the online estimator to determine the amount of storage containers I would need. It was not close. Immediately, the amount of money that I budgeted was out the window. I then informed the company that I did not have a new apartment. I told them that I would let them know as soon as I had a location. Two months later, I provided them with my new permanent address. At that time they informed me of holding and transit costs that were not initially provided. They then provided me with a delivery date. As we stood at our new address waiting for the arrival of the pods we received a call that they would not deliver on the promised date. They informed us that they did not know when it would arrive. On the phone, they provided the poorest customer service. No empathy. no detailed explanation. But, they sure charged us. read more

PackRat moved and stored our goods on schedule but greatly underestimated the number of pods we would need. PackRat's "Professional Packers & Movers" partner, Simple Moving Labor, sent out team members who were not trained in how to pack and load our personal belongings into moving pods. They damaged or destroyed over 15 items due to neglect, carelessness, and ignorance in the manner of loading the pods. I described to the team members where all the goods to be loaded were located. I then showed them where all the extra boxes, straps, tape, blankets, bubble wrap, and shrink wrap was, so it could to be used for protecting my belongings, but most was never used. It wasn't until after the pods were finally delivered and unloaded 3 months later, that we found all the damaged/destroyed items. We took pictures before, during and after the unloading process. Through these pictures, and seeing the way things were packed into the pods, it was determined that all damage was due to the improper packing and loading of the goods. None of the damaged/destroyed items were protected properly. Most of our lamp shades were totally destroyed because they were just stacked together and then rolled up into a blanket, not put into a box, and shoved into a pod. A large, 3 piece wall unit set had one of the units damaged because it was the only piece that was not protected by a blanket. Multiple floor lamps were damaged or destroyed because they were just shoved into any open space with no protection of any type around them. Several other items were damaged due to excess weight put on top of them, again with no protection. All damage was directly due to the manner in which the goods were packed, loaded, and not protected in the pods. All of the items we packed ourselves came through with NO damage whatsoever, because we took the extra time and care to pack them correctly for the move. If you complain enough with the fuel subsidy all you have to pay is all expect $ 100. The reason they do not tell you about fuel subsidy is because they don't know the price before transit. Also the company will not tell you about the fuel subsidy until they charged the credit card you have on file. Please be aware of the fuel subsidy before going through with your order. It's a huge scam with Packrat. Also you can call the day of your delivery for a 4 hour window for the ETA. Company is extremely unorganized, no communication, total mix up. Container was supposed to be delivered empty on 11/16/2020. Did not arrive until 11/23/2020. Full container was supposed to picked up on 11/28/2020. Company mixed this date up as well and I did not receive the container until today, 12/5/2020. Everyone is unapologetic, lack of understanding, and has a not my problem, no care attitude. No consideration for time of its customers. The whole experience cost about $1300 for the container and with my days missing work the total comes to about $2500. Unless you have plenty of time and money.....DO NOT USE!!! read more

This company is trash! From the start of the process with them we should have realized. Emails getting ignored phone calls not getting answered or returned. Then the containers don't show up til 24 hrs after they were supposed to arrive. Then they didn't get picked up to be shipped when they said. Then when they were supposed to get the empty ones from our place they were late again by more then 24hrs. This places customer service is trash. All the employees are garbage and they have no consideration for their customers! Do not use this company just pay the extra and use PODS. They tried to get us to sign hush papers so we wouldn't report them to the BBB and post any of our experiences. We paid $11,000 for the worst experience ever and would hate to see anyone else go through this! It was not adequately addressed. So... I called and scheduled a container to be delivered on a certain date, in Durham NC. That day came and went and no container. I called them the following day and they initially said "oh yes, it looks like your container was delivered yesterday." Of course I said no it hadn't been. So they transferred me to someone else. I explained the situation again and she put me on hold for a long time. When she came back she informed me that they "were out of containers" and weren't sure of timing for availability. She offered to put me on a waitlist! I said no thank you! Was anyone going to call me and let me know? Why hadn't they reserved one for me since I made a reservation ON THE PHONE, with a LIVE PERSON... That was inexcusable in my opinion. I called PODS instead and they've been great! read more

Initially, I was happy with the customer service when I placed the order through 1-800-packrat,but, since they have already been paid and have possession of my household items, they are no longer in the customer service game. The delivered the container to the old house a day late. I called the call center asking for information and they said, it will be there by 5pm. 10 minutes later, I received a call from the driver stating "I can be there about 2 or 3 am, is that ok?" No, it wasn't, so they delivered a day late on. During transport, I was charged extra money. It was written in the contract for reposition fee as 0.00/ day charge. I mentioned this to the phone rep, who then stated " they don't know what to charge so they write that amount". I didn't get it, but they refunded the amount. Appreciated and still happy with the services (for the most part) at this time. I had a scheduled delivery date of 08/11/2018, early in the afternoon I called asking for an estimate, I was told "before 11pm, they will give you a 1 hour courtesy call prior to arriving!". A few hours later, getting a little antsy since it was almost 8pm, I called again asking if there was an estimate, I was again assured "Today by 11pm". Around 9:50 I still have not received a call and nobody has answered my question yet, so, I called again. I was told "I will email the facility and get an update, I will call when I receive information". Well, I guess he never got information since they never called back! Sunday morning the 12th, I finally get in contact with someone. I was told, the facility is closed today, and they will email for an update. Again, they will get back to me. Around 4:00pm, I was called and told, it is on the schedule for the 13th, the driver will call 1 hour prior,you can call the facility in the morning for an estimated arrival time. One cannot actually call the facility, one must contact the call center. I called and I was told they do know know what the issue is, I am not scheduled for delivery and they need to do some research. (At this time the gentleman express his apologies and states his manager has agreed to compensation for this. Never mentioned again). A few hours later, they call me. "We found your container. The shipment was split up with out telling us, and we will deliver in the 16th". So now, I wait 3 more days, on top of the 2 days it is already late! They refused to answer any other questions, repeat,"it will be delivered on the 16th!". So I asked what time? "I don't know, it is scheduled for anytime, they will call you 1 hour prior"! I expressed my frustration, explained my two children are stuck in an empty house on air mattresses because Packrat lost my stuff, and I can't be given a priority delivery? I was explained the dispatch h team does not make the schedule, he cannot give me a time! Again, after they got their money, they are in no way concerned about me as a customer! This does not impact them in any way, it's not their stuff in limbo, it's not their kids having to wonder where their stuff is after moving across the country. It's not them being blown off and ignored. They got paid! Never again! They are a rip off, they do not care about their customers. In a positive note, the first few customer service reps I spoke with were really nice. They after they were paid that changed. Their communication is terrible, their practices seem shady and they refuse to give straight answers. I highly recommend doing some shopping around before considering 1800-Packrat. One of the all-time worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I used 1-800-Pack Rat because reviews praised their customer service and it was a couple hundred bucks cheaper than PODs. Huge mistake. The container was delivered incorrectly in a way that made it impossible to pick up on its scheduled date. The pickup driver did not inform the company about this even though I asked that he pick it up ASAP (early the next week). When I called to have it picked up, I was informed it would be another week. This was during a week of record humidity and flooding, so I was very nervous about the belongings and asked that they expedite the process. The AWFUL customer service team (including supervisor Nathaniel) not only was not accommodating (for a problem they created in the first place with incorrect delivery) but told me that any problems with the packed items were my fault. He was very curt and rude and showed no desire to help or fix their mistake. Shame on you. Terrible experience. read more

I had a mixed experience with 1-800-PACK-RAT. The customer service was available and responsive while setting up my move. The empty container arrived exactly on time (the driver said he would have been early, except that he couldn't find the keys to the vehicle) on the wrong type of truck: so the driver had to use the lift every time we wanted to load anything. However, he was very nice and professional the whole time. My belongings made it to storage without a hassle. I set up the delivery of my full container to my new destination in Raleigh NC online because I couldn't get a human on the phone to coordinate. Regardless of my efforts, I did not receive adequate communication about the delivery date/time/location. I agreed to the $50 additional charge (which I find absurd) to have my container delivered between 8 & noon so that I could ensure it was there before my movers arrived. I tried calling to get a smaller window of time, and was told that I'd hear back from the driver the morning of the delivery - there was no organization/dispatch to set things up a day ahead of time. The driver never called me. The driver didn't arrive until 12:30. The driver didn't apologize for being late or for the lack of communication. Nobody from 1-800-PACK-RAT apologized for the late arrival or the lack of communication. In summary, it seems that the communication and customer service are really good until they have possession of your belongings. Then you're lucky if you hear back from anybody. read more

I used Pack Rat to move from San Jose, CA to Raleigh, NC. Excellent customer service!! I will be using their services the next time I'm making a long distance move. A+++ I found their flyer at Lowe's (next to the moving boxes) and was debating between moving my things in a U-Haul truck or using a moving company. My sister-in-law used PODS and figured that would be the safest and most efficient way. I priced both PODS and Pack Rat, and it came out to be very close in price. Why I picked Pack Rat? Because of their excellent customer serivce. The person that set up my account and provided an estimate, he didn't sound like he was reading from a script. He was very friendly and helpful. For my estimate, the CS agent provide different sizes and options that I could consider for my move. Ultimately I went with a 8x8x8 Container, their smallest size and could fit a Studio size worth of things. There was also a 16x8x8 container. I was able to schedule when the drop off and pick up in San Jose was going to be and the drop off and pick up in Raleigh would be. A downside of their time frame for these drop offs and pick ups are AM or PM. I wasn't able to specify a time, so I had to wait for the driver. Not a big deal. In a nutshell, this is how Pack Rat's service works. You can store your things in their containers and/or Pack Rat with ship/move your things from one location to another. I was moving across country so I had up to a month to pack, ship, and unpack my container. During transport, I was kept up to date via email when the container was pick up from San Jose, when it reached their warehouse, when it was making its trip across country, and when it was ready to be delivered to its final destination in Raleigh. The drivers were all very friendly and helpful. My overall experience was great and I would be more than happy to recommend them to my family and friends. If I could give 0 stars I would, but bottom line, I recommend that EVERYONE STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THEM AS YOU CAN! I had items in a Public Storage unit that I needed moved from California to Florida. The Public Storage facility would not allow a container to remain on the property overnight. So after talking to several container companies I went with 1-800 Pack-Rat because they were the only ones that guaranteed same day container drop off and pick up. They charged me extra for same day service and were $2000 more then other companies but I needed that same day service and went with them. The day of the move they dropped off the container on time, all seemed great. Then when it was time to pick up the container they were late. I called Pack-Rat and they said the ETA changed to a later time. Again the pick up time came and went and yet they did not show up, call me, NOTHING. I called them and they were "checking into it". After multiple calls that I made, they still did not know when the container would be picked up, they eventually left for the day leaving me with no answers. I could only hope that the container would be picked up before Public Storage closed. The next morning Public Storage called me to tell me that the container was still on site. Again reaching out to Pack-Rate multiple times got me nothing more then we will try to get it picked up. I asked to speak to a supervisor and they would not get one on the phone. Short story, they did not pick up the unit for 3 days! There were multiple threats to me from Public Storage that they are going to tow the unit away and little help from Pack-Rat. They did finally get a supervisor on the phone on the third day who told me that they don't guarantee same day service! This person actually started to raise her voice to me because I was angry before I told her it would be best if she did not go there. She deflected blame on the company that they use to pick up the container and refunded me $50 dollars. She refused to do anymore. As far as I am concerned I lost $2000 of my hard earned money because of Pack-Rat's dishonesty. I could've gone with a company that was $2000 less with much better customer service and reviews. Pack-Rat sent me a survey to fill out which I did and invited them to call me and not surprisingly they have never reached out to me. The Sales office is great, the front-in drop off of the pod...great. The pick up of the full pod...great. Getting your stuff on the back-end the delivery...AWFUL. A two week delivery ended up being over 6 weeks! Customer service after they have your stuff...AWFUL!!!! Holds time exceeded 1 hour, then they would pick up the line and hang-up. You are given to option for a call-back which I did a few times with LITTLE or no success. Return calls took over 24 hours, if returned at all. I did learn a trick to reaching a customer service rep.----CALL THE SALES LINE as a new customer....they pick up on this first ring. Most of the customer service reps. were kind,helpful, and apologetic. I had one guy that was a complete JERK and tainted the remainder of my experience with the company. 1-800-PACK-RAT made moving SUPER SIMPLE for us! My husband and I were living in 2 different states and needed to move each of our things on different schedules to end up in Texas at the same time. They worked closely with us to coordinate AND worked extra hard to make sure things went smoothly when we ran into a few bumps. The containers hold more than you expect and are very convenient. This is DEFINITELY the best way to move when you want to control the packing but do not want to do any of the transporting or if you aren't sure of when you might be able to unload on the other side. As a military family, moving is a big part of our life. I trusted packrat with my household goods. When I called, I said I was military and we would be moving out of state, we were just unsure where so we would need our stuff to be stored for a bit since we sold our house and needed to be out by a certain time. They said that would be no problem and we could call and have it delivered when we arrive at our out of state destination. Packrat dropped off the container with no problems, the day it was scheduled to be picked up was the day we closed on our house, we waited as long as we could, they didn't show so we told the new owners it would be picked up that day shortly. Well come to find out they never came and the new owners were trying to move in. Finally 2 days later they picked it up. That's just where the horror of packrat begins. Fast forward three months, we are at our new home and ready to get our things, the military wants the weigh tickets that we asked for when we reserved it. I called to get them and they said there are no weigh tickets and it says no where that this is a military move, I know for a fact I said that when we reserved the container, how else are we supposed to be reimbursed? Well then I mentioned I wanted my stuff delivered, they said they couldn't deliver it since the container it's in is not an out of state container and can't leave the state. Mind you my family and I are 2100 miles across the country already. They had messed up my order from the beginning. Now I'm frantically trying to find a moving company that will go unload the container, drive it here so we can have our things. Packrat dropped the ball. I will never recommend them to anyone as they have costed me thousands of dollars because of a mistake THEY made. Not to mention their customer service staff is rude. We had great service in Indiana but we were completely lied to about when out pod would be delivered. 7 business days from when picked up and it would be delivered to our new home. However the local office refuses to honor the agreement and is basically saying tough luck, we will get it to you when we have time. So now we sit for 5 days until they are willing to bring it. Sadly they already charged me. I kept my end up by paying but apparently it's a one way street. Luckily I have all the communications with the promises not that it will do me any good. Honestly very disappointed and will make sure to steer as many of the people relocating behind me away from this company. It must be a local experience though because things were great until the delivery date was a scam to get me to agree to signing up for this as it was very dependent on the delivery date. It was great due to one employee with the New Orleans team and his name is Tyrone. Tyrone was a gift from God, our angel. He gave us spectacular customer service and he told us that he would take care of us and he did just that. We moved from Baton Rouge to Clayton NC, of course a stressful move, we had a time crunch, and at the last minute we needed another container delivered and picked up on short notice and PackRat made it happened with Tyrone assuring us he would make sure it happened the way we needed it and he was a man of his word. I would recommended 1800RatPack just because of the care and professionalism that Tyrone showed us. I hope RatPack reads this and gives Tyrone some kind award for his exceptional customer service, there isn't enough of that around anymore. Tyrone I hope you read this, Thanks again for all you did for us. The house on Chevalier Update The final delivery was as good as the initial pack delivery. Our items arrived dry and without damage. We called and reserved a unit to be delivered 1 week fro delivery date. We received no email to confirm service. Day before we were supposed to be getting the container, we were on hold for an hour, got cut off, left 3 messages to return call. NOTHING. The next day, we called and pushed the new customer option... and surprise, there was a wait, left a message and we did receive a call back within 15 mins but when they learned that we had a reservation, they transferred us saying that a manager would have to answer this. And then, told us the delivery would call with an hour of delivery. So we wait.. at 6pm, we called again and were on hold for 55 mins before talking to a person. RIDICULOUS. Customer Service is atrocious. If you decide to go with these people.. good luck. You'll need it. We've decided to go with a local company that doesn't the exact same thing for A LOT less. read more

People will not answer phones to pick up/deliver your stuff and the driver was a huge jerk. Nearly got charged an extra month because of having to call corporate to get my pack rat picked up. Then when the guy comes to get it he made his rendering of the Grand Canyon in my new neighbors yard when leaving, exactly the first impression you want to make. But no, they want a week to pick up the container. Just be sure to get in writing when they will be picking up the container after you make the call. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I reserved over the phone and was told I did not need to be home from drop off. I called the driver back right after he called me about drop off and never heard back. I was at work because I did not know I needed to be home. When I called to ask where my container was, they blamed it on me saying I should have been home... though I was never told that and never received a call back from my missed call. I asked if they could deliver in the morning and they said not for 4 more days bc they were already booked. They did not take any ownership of their mistakes and all thy could do was telling me "sorry." They even asked if i could push back the closing date on my house! What? NO! I am now having to miss Work to move, pay $200 to reschedule my movers and have rescheduled a container drop off through PODS, who wasnts surprised by the poor customer service at Pack Rat. 1-800-Pack-Rat was a very bad experience for me. I had two large pods delivered from them to help in our move across town. We packed the pods up and had a day scheduled for pick up. Unfortunately, on that day, there was some kind of oversight and they only picked one pod up. We were only days away from our house closing date when everything needed to be vacated and the pod needed to be gone. I called them for three days straight and couldn't get an answer from anybody as to when the pod would be picked up. When they finally got ahold of the manager at the moving and storage facility this individual refused to have the pod picked up by the day we needed it gone by. We should have been a priority but instead we were put to the back of the line. The whole ordeal was extremely stressful at an already stressful time. On top of that 1-800-Pack-Rat has been very slow to respond to our complaints and requests for some money back. Please think twice about going with this company- I can only hope that there is somebody out there that does a better job than these people did!! read more
