I had an interstate move and generally everything went fine, exactly as the policies and instructions specify on their website and over the phone with Customer Service. I liked the idea of them having an option to use Affirm for payment. However, they do not finish their part of the transaction until your load gets to its destination distribution point and it takes a bit of finagling to get around U Pack's asking for you to cancel your Affirm and just pay them direct for the whole thing. That part seemed kind of fishy. Also, I would not go by their estimate of linear feet for the volume of furnishings - even though I had really top-notch loaders who were Tetris masters, we had to add on 2 feet, which is about $350 on top of the original estimate. They really seem to push add-ons which I did not go for, including guaranteed delivery dates I just made sure that I timed everything so that it worked ok avoided as much weekend time as possible because they do not do anything on a weekend or a holiday and those days do not count for transit or delivery or pick up. Even though it was kind of a hassle, it was OK and I saved probably about $3000 by shipping all my stuff this way. read more

The entire experience was a good one. My only issue was that the cube they recommended was too small . They did leave two and the 2nd one was only about a third full. So I did have to pay to store two . The recommendation of one cube for a small one bedroom apartment is inaccurate. A slightly larger one would have been better. But all in all they were courteous, helpful and I'd certainly use them again if I ever have to move again. read more

UPack says on their website, "The price may be lower than other moving companies, but the level of service isn't" My experience with them was the complete opposite of what they say. This will be my first time leaving a negative review of a business and I must do so this time because people deserve to know the truth. I'll keep it simple. Do not trust them saying what day or time the container will arrive. It will change at any time. If you are moving to a different state, this will create a huge mess in scheduling your move. They apparently transport some other stuff besides your stuff in the same container. This led to ants' infestation and all my stuff being covered in filth. The ants were found everywhere even inside a washer. (I will send you video clips if you request me.) Things can surely happen. But what should not happen is total ignorance to a customer who is trying to communicate this in a polite and respectful manner. More than a month has passed since I first contacted them and there is still no response. I even filed a claim through the website and sent multiple emails. I wonder if they are just filtering all claims emails because there are so many. I'm going to continue to reach them until I am no longer ignored and rightfully compensated for all the losses. read more

This is a great service for anyone that needs to move quickly and doesn't necessarily know where they'll be once they get there, as the container can go to storage for a month (or more) while you figure things out. That said, you could move all month with this thing too if you just need time. It's a super convenient way to move or ship. If I can offer one specific word of advice, it's this: STRAPS. Anchor everything down if anything is fragile. Pack heaviest, sturdiest up. Leave no space between things. This is one of the most successful, least stressful, cross-country moves I could ever hoped to have had with UPACK. They lose one star for not being terribly clear on when payment is made. We ended up getting them a cashier's check upon delivery, but we thought we were paying when we reserved the unit. Definitely the easiest way to move a household cross-country in a cost conscious way. There are certainly other ways that are cheaper, but not by much. read more

Super easy process. Customer service is very responsive either by email or phone call, within reason I wouldn't expect a response in the middle of the night nor over the weekend. If you run into issues or unforeseen circumstance, they are very accommodating and will to help come up with alternate solutions. Setting up delivery of the truck and pick up at both origin and destination are easy as well. I was very pleased with U-Pack's service for my cross-country move. It is very affordable (you actually pay what they originally quote you!), and I also appreciated that there was no up-front payment -- your card is charged with your filled Relocube(s) are picked up. I did not request to know the exact time my Relocube would arrive, but when I called the morning-of they let me know what number I was in the delivery cue. Overall, the staff communicated clearly and the drivers were friendly and skilled. I also fit WAY MORE than I thought I could into the Relocube! Just make sure you are prepped with packing materials and people who know how to properly and securely load your things. I will absolutely be using U-Pack for future long-distance moves. read more

I first used ABF's U-Pack moving services when I moved from Nashville to Charlotte. Because of the good experience I had then, I decided to use them again for my move from Charlotte to Durham. My experience this time was not very good. Communication is terrible. Last time I used ABF, they would call to let me know when they would be showing up at my house. Instead, I was given a pickup/drop off window and then no further notification, leaving me stuck in my house for a long span of time when I had other things to accomplish. I paid over $200 extra for a guaranteed delivery date (and they did indeed deliver on that day), but I had no control over the time. None. I had movers booked at a certain time and ran the risk of that money going to waste. I'm not sure what has changed in ABF's management, but it certainly hasn't been for the better. For a shorter distance move, ABF's prices are insane. If I weren't being reimbursed, there is no way that I would use this service, which was easily about 8 times the cost of a UHaul truck. There's a definite level of convenience in having the trailer for a span of time to load and unload (versus the time crunch of standard truck rental), but the convenience was not worth the headaches. read more

For DIY moving this is they way to go. I used a Terminal - Terminal relocube (6x7x8 ft) for 1 month storage and moving the equivalent of a studio/1bdrm apartment from Raleigh to Chicago. The customer service was great, scheduling the loading and unloading was painless, and I was able to track the container online. I had packed my stuff pretty well and had no damage, just a few small dings on the furniture which is expected. I highly recommend using this service if you don't want to drive a truck cross country or pay for a full service moving company. I think this is ideal for the smaller moves - i.e. the 1-2 bedroom apartments. The 1 month storage was useful while staying in temp housing until I could move into the new place. My only complaint is there are no Saturday hours, so loading and unloading required time off from work and huge favors of new coworkers. However, due to this limitation, my storage cost was heavily discounted. read more

I cannot say enough about the service I received from U-Pack. Our move was a bit more complicated since we live in St. Louis, most of my daughter's possessions were still in Durham, NC and she was moving to Galveston, TX. We had to travel to Durham to load, back to St. Louis, and then to Galveston to unload. We needed to time both trips to minimize the cost of lodging and food in two different cities. We were also scheduling movers on both ends, so the cubes needed to be delivered and received on specific dates or the whole project would collapse! I purchased the guaranteed delivery date for a specific date. In both cases when I received delivery of the empty cubes in Durham and the full cubes in Galveston, they were delivered early in the projected timeframes. This was especially beneficial in Durham, where we needed to sit at a storage unit until the cubes were received. Very grateful for that! Lastly, when the driver (who's name I believe is Jim), delivered the cubes in Galveston he told us that they were down to one trailer, so he was working overtime to get the deliveries made on time. We had two cubes, one of which was not very full and we were going to unload it that day before the movers came the next day. Jim was very polite and was asking questions about the apartment location and he wanted to see the contents of the cube. We were somewhat puzzled by his interest. Turns out.....Jim helped us unload that cube quickly in the Texas heat wave, taking things up to the second floor, some of which were fairly heavy. He then was able to take the empty cube back with him. All of this when he told us he was already working 12 hour days! We have been talking about Jim ever since! Also, all of our items arrived in perfect shape after the long drive. We are very pleased with U-pack and would use them again! read more

AWESOME Experience!! I've looked at several moving companies and i didn't want to pay thousannddsss of dollars! Moved from NC to TX Also checked multiple pack it yourself company like zippy shell, even uhaul has a UBOX which is very similar to the relocube for ABF's Upack, although uhauls u box was cheaper then ABF by just 200$, i prefered abf's based on the reviews. The relocube is small, after further research i found out they also have a trailer which they will drop off just like the cube, but with more space, you only pay for what you use which is much more conveint then the cube cause you get a whoollleee trailer and you'll get a quote on certain amount of feet and if you use less then your quote you get some money back but if you end up using more then they charge you a bit per foot! much better then have to stress over needed an extra cube since we prob would have filled 1.5 cubes but would have ended up having to pay for to cubes which would have been more then the trailer! Besides this I've recieved great customer service through the found by Lupita Barraza (ft. Worth) and my drivers from apex was very punctual and professional andddd a great driver having to squeeze in etween to big cars just to have the trailer in the position i needed it. My driver from ft worth/arlington also amazing! I will def use this company again!!! read more

This has been such frustrating experience. They took our money easily enough, but then when it came time to schedule the delivery to our new place in LA, suddenly they couldn't deliver the pods to our new address (LA doesn't allow street parking of these things and they refused to place them on our covered driveway). Never again. The logistics of loading our things onto a truck at their center is going to be a nightmare. This is moving hell- buyer beware. read more

Used U-Pack for both our moves from San Diego to North Carolina and then from North Carolina to Washington. The pricing was clear and transparent, and I was fully aware you pay a premium for the convenience but it was worth it for us to not have to worry about driving our stuff cross-country. There was a bit of mis-communication between ABF and U-Pack on our move to Washington. U-Pack gives you three business days to load. On third business day, you need to call in the pickup by noon to guarantee your delivery window. For some reason, ABF Freight showed up the morning of our third business day to pickup the container. We didn't have much left to pack into the trailer (just some odds and ends), so it wasn't a big inconvenience for us, but I could see it being an issue if you were banking on the morning of your last day to finalize the loading. Be sure to either be ready to go the day before your last loading day, or call a day before the last loading day and request an afternoon pickup. read more

After some pretty thorough research for a cross-country move I selected U-Pack. I also selected their recommended cube packers. U-Pack helped me estimate the number of cubes I needed. At the appointed date/time the truck showed up and dropped off three cubes. The packers showed up. Our two bedroom apartment was packed in four hours with attendant straps and padlocks. Truck came back the same day and took the cubes to storage. We moved 4000 across the country. The cubes sat in storage for six months until we figured out if Reno was to be our final destination. After determining it was (we did not get a major contract), I called U-Pack to retrieve the cubes. Ten days later the truck showed up with my cubes at a storage unit. The unpackers showed up at the same time. Two hours later my cubes were unpacked into my storage unit. No damage! Seamless. Cheap. Reliable. Really, really happy I chose this solution over the other ones out there that get some pretty bad reviews. Highly recommend you use U-Pack and their cubes via ABF freight. read more

Our experience with UPack was absolutely awful. To start, initial delivery of the empty pod was inconvenient, as we were given multiple different time frames, yet the delivery occurred AFTER all of them. Even the 12 hour window that we were quoted!! And then, once it came to transit, the experience only worsened. Based upon pickup date of 8/17/18, we were provided with an estimated delivery date of 8/22-8/24 from Kansas to NC. My family of 6, including 4 young children, were moving across country on a tight budget and a tight timeline for new careers, so we planned our travel/departure so that we could arrive in time to receive our pod. We arrived on the 23rd in hopes of getting the pod on the 24th at the latest, and much to our disappointment, we noted that the pod had not even left Kansas until the 22nd even though it was picked up from our possession on the 17th. Because we knew we had limited space in our vehicles, we packed minimally, so basically everything we owned was on the pod - including clothing, bedding, towels, etc. After much discussion with Upack, it was determined that we would have to wait through the weekend to find out if we could POSSIBLY receive our pod on Monday - 5 days after we arrived in town. As a result, my family had to incur unnecessary additional expenses to purchase towels, wash laundry in a laundry mat, fast food rather than cooking, etc. additionally, due to a tight budget, I had family drive to NC for the weekend to help us unload, which was a waste of time because we had no pod. My family had to return home for work, so we were left with no assistance, so we had to pay over $700 for laborers to help us unload and get all of our items into our home. The only compensation that was offered was $250, which didn't even cover HALF of what was needed for the additional labor that we had to hire. A fee that wouldn't have existed if the company just delivered the pod as they had quoted me. Unfortunately, I didn't learn until after the fact that a "guaranteed" delivery time was at an extra cost, and because I did not pay for this guaranteed delivery, I was basically at the mercy of a company that would rather make moving families wait indefinitely on their pod so they can make a few extra bucks rather than uphold their estimated delivery window - and the delay was NOT due to transit issues, but rather to the fact that the company obviously wanted to piggyback to make more money, considering that the pod didn't even leave until the day that it was first estimated to be delivered in NC. I will NEVER again spend another penny contributing to the profit of this company and I will be sure to let EVERYONE know of the awful morals that this company upholds. I understand that I should have paid for the guaranteed delivery, and it was my fault for thinking a company such as this would have morals... or at least accurate communication as to when and where nearly ALL of our belongings were, especially since we were anticipating the start of new jobs in a new place, and our 4 children were starting in a new school. The only communications I received from this company were initiated by me, and I am abhorred and disgusted at the way this situation was managed. And I will do my best to ensure that nobody suffers at the hands of this company again. I will be informing my new employers to ensure they DO NOT recommend this company to anyone else that they relocate, and I will ensure that they continue to spread the word to other companies as well. read more

Well the problems caused by u-packs lack of communications have got worse! We are in a hotel, our stuff is in 2 storage units, 2 homes and a hotel, we are down with health problems, & short of cash. Yay! If u-pack had been more accurate in their accounting & open in their communications, none of this woulld be happening. The problems they precipitated resulted in renting a very bad place and having to move out again and moving into a hotel. Packing, unpacking, packing, unpacking, packing, unpacking. Thanks U-Pack. We had a very good experience with Upack from start to finish in our move from NC to CA. Prices were the best compared to other services. Drop off logistics were easy in Durham, and had no problems with filling out the forms or the dispatch of the pod. Everyone I talked to was very helpful and the diagram of the pod on the papers that they send you make it very clear what will fit (and what won't), what lock to use, what not to pack, etc. In the end we needed to add storage on the backend in CA for 2 months while we bought a house and that was no problem either - the monthly storage fee was very reasonable. Delivery in CA was also easy, just called the number on our paperwork and it was scheduled with just a few day's notice from our side. No damage to any of our stuff and they picked the pod up as scheduled. I would definitely use them again for a long-distance move. read more

This was by far the cheapest way to go. I really liked them, but lots of random screws came loose from our furniture and pieces fell off during transport, so I'd highly recommend screwing in everything tight in your furniture regardless of whether you think it's needed. I also was under the impression that I was purchasing furniture pads from them (thought I verbally confirmed this with the representative multiple times while making my reservation), but they didn't come and the person I called the morning the truck arrived said that they didn't have record of this. I'm still trying to get an itemized receipt from them to see if I actually paid for the pads or not. It was also a bit stressful to have to rush out the morning we were loading to buy furniture pads that I thought I'd already purchased. All in all, I'd highly recommend using this service. Just make sure your stuff is screwed in tight and that you know for a fact whether or not you're getting furniture pads. read more

****UPDATE AT BOTTOM**** not sure if this should be posted about my terrible experience in Naples, FL. or my even worse experience in Durham,NC. my trailer was dropped off at my house on Tuesday. Delivery man was very polite and showed me what i would need to know. we were off to a great start. By Wednesday I was done loading my trailer and called to let them know that they could pick it up on Thursday (i had already scheduled pick up on Thursday via the website, but i wanted to confirm with an operator over the phone). i was told it would be picked up sometime Thursday. so, with trusting that this was correct, we got up early Thursday morning for our 13 hour drive to Durham, NC. Not once did i think i would have to call to follow up that U-pack kept their word and picked up my trailer. Saturday afternoon i received a very angry call from my previous landlord in Naples, FL that my trailer was still in the driveway and the new tenants had no where to park their moving truck. Very confused, i placed a call to a U-pack operator. i was told that whoever i spoke with on Wednesday made an error and never put in my order for pick-up. the next available pick-up would not be until Monday morning. After hearing this ridiculous news, i then had to call my previous landlord. she was extremely upset about it, and is now deducting money from my security deposit which was supposed to be returned in full, because my lease was up but my belongings are all still on her property. So now, this Thursday morning, i check to see where the trailer is located. it says that it is in Raleigh-Durham. i call to see what time it will be dropped off and i was told that they did not have anymore drop-off appointments today. which is completely absurd to me after all the phone calls i have made and i was told it would be delivered to me ASAP. And also, my confirmation packet says that delivery would be sometime today. The next option that was given to me would be for tomorrow. But clearly with my history with this whole delivery- i will not count on it showing up tomorrow. Not only has this company cost me extra money because they left my trailer sitting for at least two extra business days, now it is being delivered late. i have spoken to several people on the phone and nothing has been done for me- not even the accurate drop-off or pick-up date. i would like for someone to give me a call to resolve this matter, and to accommodate me for how difficult U-Pack has made my moving experience. *****UPDATE***** I was contacted by customer service, and the issues were worked out. all and all i would say U-Pack is a great alternative for moving. It's much better than driving a moving van, and very friendly on your bank account. I'm sure that my issues were something that just felt through the cracks. The best and most cost-efficient way to move stuff quickly and easily in a cross-country move! Also, amazing customer service- every phone call with them was a delight and actually left me in a better mood than before. They made everything so efficient and easy for me, and my stuff even arrived 2 days ahead of schedule, which was great. The flexibility is also a major plus--if you don't know your exact address that you're moving to yet, they give you 3 business days after the arrival date to find a place, or you can just store the cubes in the warehouse until you're ready. The relocubes are a nice size and can fit in a parking spot, driveway, or even a yard. Definitely much better than driving a gas-guzzling, unwieldy UHaul across the country! read more
