have to agree and wish I read these reviews before I chose to go with packrat. When you call the number and you guys say moving and storage made simple is a flat out lie. I was told I would have a delivery sometime this week between October the 25th 26 27th it's now Friday the 29th I've talk to at least 6 to 7 different people and one supervisor nobody seems to be able to get a hold of anybody down at the "warehouse" they swear since Monday they have sent "Urgent Emails" reguarding the situation! Here's the kicker my earliest scheduled appointment for delivery I was told today would be November 23 so my family and I have to live in in our new house for a whole month with none of our things great job rat pack you guys definitely set the bar for worst pod storage business! Highly advise looking elsewhere. DO NOT rent from this company! There is no direct number if an issue arises, 1-800 is over an hour wait. But, you can email and get a response in 5 hours. I went with this company because they stated they could deliver a container the next day by 10 am. Next day at noon, no container, zero communication, had to call and wait two hours for a call back then was told the a.m. driver had an emergency, no communication to me, but they'd have a container out between 2-6, no container showed. Side note: I have a guy waiting for this container at the job site. Call and email the next day, can't get a direct answer, the ETA today is 12-4. It's 3 and NO container still. The poor customer service agents are very sweet and understanding but they can't so anything but call the local warehouse which no-one ever answers LOL This company is an absolute joke and I have zero idea why they are still in business. read more

My problem has to be with the customer service department. They only care about collecting your money, PERIOD!!! I'm moving less than 300 miles and in the same state (mind you it is Texas) and your time for transit is 10 days! And when you call to try to find out if your container is in transit to next site all the rep does is re-confirm what I already know(drop off address, etc) and never goes the extra step to see where container actually is. STOP!!! DO NOT USE ZIPPYSHELL UNTIL YOU READ THIS! We had an abysmal experience with Zippyshell (ZP) (an affiliated company with Pack Rat), and from the review, we are not the only ones. We set up a contract with the group, and they claimed on the call that we would get three movers for four hours. When ZS showed up with the POD, there were only two movers, and they said they only worked for 3 hours. Ensure you have the language in your contract; our contract called out "team," a tricky way to screw you. They charged us $55 an hour extra but did not discuss this until the movers had left with our stuff--another way to extort more money from you. The contract read 8 to 10 business days before ZS would deliver our container. Mind you, when I purchase something from Amazon, I get an update every step of the way. ZS has no way of tracking your POD, which seems unprofessional and is par for the course with this company. The POD showed up on the 12th day, and ZS did not send movers as contracted to help unload the POD. We are also waiting for our refund, which has yet to come. Please do not use this company, they are cheap, and you get what you pay for. They are unprofessional and will try to charge you extra at every turn. This company should be reported to the Better Business Bureau, and those who have had these terrible experiences should band together and start a class-action lawsuit. read more

I had 1-800-PACT-Rat move me from San Diego, CA to San Antonio. I was due to have my pod delivered on May 20th, I call on the 20th to verify my move and was told, "oh yes, you are on schedule for delivery today and the driver will contact you an hour before". They never called. i call them the next day and they told me that I was rescheduled for Monday the 24th. I called on Monday and was told, "oh yes, you are on schedule for delivery today and the driver will contact you an hour before". This was at 9 am. I called back at 3 pm and was told, "oh no, the fork lift is down and we do not have an update". It has been 2 weeks! and every time I call I get the same response. no matter if I talk to a representative or a manager. I have been sleeping on an air mattress and living out of an ice chest for 2 weeks and these people have never called me back on anything! Late delivering our pod even though scheduled between 8-11. Didn't arrive til 12:45. Half our day was spent waiting around. Then for the move to my sons new home, it was scheduled 3weeks in advance for a prior to noon delivery in a Friday . Even paid the extra fee. At 7:03 pm Friday he gets a text that it will now be Monday. Horrible customer service. Don't even bother calling the 1800 #, they cannot do anything for you. We didn't have any issues getting, loading, or storing the containers at packrats facility. We had them delivered on Aug 4 2021 with a pickup date of Aug 9 2021. We had a crew of friends help us unload everything by the 9th. It's now the 16th and they are still on my property. We've made several calls and been on hold for 1 hour each time. Got reps that shuffled us around from dept to dept until someone told us they'd note it on the account. Now they told us they come get them by the 20th. When we rented with them they said they had a shortage of containers. If they'd pick them up it may help! They sure aren't paying us to store their containers on our place but believe me if we were late they would charge us. You may be taking your chances with this company. I used Zippy Shell / 1-800-Pack-Rat to relocate from PA to TX. I received many of my items covered in a dark, thick soot. My items were packed securely; fragile items wrapped in layers of bubble wrap, then blankets. My mirror and desk (among other things) arrived broken and I was told that they aren't liable because I didn't use professional packers (whom I know they would've pawned the responsibility on to them and still wouldn't have paid for replacements). They asked repeatedly for my receipts and pics of my broken items all to just say "we're not responsible." Never again! read more

1800PackRat has combined with ZippyShell. My contract was with ZippyShell, but they used PackRat containers and drivers, so I am posting here as well as on Zippy Shell. Do NOT depend on this company to fulfill their duties. If I could give zero stars, I would. Not enough room here to tell my whole story. Suffice to say I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. ZippyShell/1800PackRat was supposed to move 2 containers from Surprise, AZ to Austin, TX at the end of June. Through an error on their part, my containers were delivered to San Antonio Warehouse and Austin is out of their delivery zone. Numerous phone calls, issue still not resolved, no possibility (according to them) of delivery before August 3- almost another 2 weeks away. Which means they will have had my containers for over a month...currently sitting 60 miles away from our completely empty house. Note- I used Zippy Shell in 2017 for IL to AZ move and had no problems. They have obviously bitten off more than they can chew by combining with 1800PackRat. read more

You get what you pay for or in this case you don't get that either. I don't mind sharing that this was a large move with three large containers. I paid the EXTRA expedited fee just to hear two hours prior to my delivery time that my delivery will be delayed 4 DAYS. That's correct, 4 days! All the containers are in the facility on time but because of "overbooking" this stated from a manager "Carlos" I'm SOL with a house with 3 children and no beds etc. Etc etc Their resolution - "how does $50 a day sound?" . Packrat / aka DirtyRats - It sounds like you don't care about your business and or you have become so big you do not deem it necessary to show any empathy. This is the worst company I have ever had the displeasure of interacting with. The inability to provide any information or compensation for holding all of my belongings against my permission is astounding. I waited around in an empty house, which I had already begun paying for, waiting for the storage container to magically arrive. The fact that no one could give me a straight answer was ridiculous. This business design was clearly developed by literal rats. Actually, rats may have done a better job. It is mind blowing how horrible and ignorant every person I spoke to was. There were two costumer service representatives I spoke to who had some sympathy for the situation and actually tried to help. Thanks, Pam. Everyone else was completely useless. How do you tell me you don't know where my stuff is or when it'll be delivered??? How do you not provide compensation??? I was told there would be a repayment for the SEVEN extra days I waited. I am adding to my review because after the shit show of dealing with this company I picked up my stuff on may 18th from zippy she'll storage and asked the guy in the office if I can have an invoice that I am picking up my things so I am not charged storage fee in June because every month on the 14th they charge a storage fee and some other fee. Well when I picked up my belongings I had just been charge for may and was there to close my account. He said they do not offer invoices BUT he is closing my account now. Pack-o-Lies. This whole operation starts with the company Zippyshell that is owned by Pack-Rat. We employed them moving from Las Vegas, NV to San Antonio Texas and so far it has been the worst experience moving we have ever had to deal with. The utter lack of competency is mine blowing. We loaded two shells and requested the second one that we loaded to be delivered first. They missed the delivery date by a week And delivered the first one we loaded first (not what we requested) they offered us the first month of storage free then they changed us for it. We complained and they offered us $100 refund. Not adequate when we've spend $8,000 with you and I've lost a few thousand in days of work missed to be here to unload. Finally they offered $600 that's been over 2 weeks ago and we haven't seen the refund or our second pod which was promised for delivery today and they called us after 8:30pm to inform us they won't be able to make it tonight but they'd try for tomorrow. Used pack rat for a move today and opted to use one of their "recommended movers."After around five hundred dollars I can easily say I could've moved more efficiently with a storage unit and my 16 year old. The movers didn't have a clue and couldn't get basic furniture out of the doors, I ended up having to move the majority of it myself and guide them through EVERY bit of the process. The driver is now unable to drop the container for no other reason that we can see but an inability to operate a single axel truck...completely dissatisfied, a total waste of time and money. If you are in the business of moving and storage, at least be able to execute one of them with some semblance of efficiency. read more

Called Customer Service and and no one answered for the already ordered containers, but if you call as a new customer the call will be answered rather quickly. I want to be 100% transparent. My issues with Zippy Shell/1-800-PACK-RAT are largely based off horrible Customer care and Customer Service. I got quotes from both PACK-RAT and Zippy Shell, and decided to go with Zippy because it was cheaper. The day of container delivery PACK-RAT showed up, and so began all the nightmares. With that being said, I have contacted both companies numerous times with the same results (since they are owned by the same company). - At first, I was glad I received PACK-RAT containers, since they looked to be much better quality and a tad bigger than expected. Little did I know it would be the beginning of a nightmare move. I received ZERO notice that I should expect PACK-RAT containers. So now I had to deal with Zippy Customer Service for PACK-RAT services. If I would've known how complicated it would all be then, I would've declined reception of the containers. - Since I booked through Zippy, I was told that I could not schedule delivery until my containers had arrived at the destination warehouse. They told me that once I received such notification, that I could call and schedule the delivery and that it would take between 72 hrs and up to a week for delivery. Well since I had PACK-RAT containers, once I received notification they were at destination warehouse, I called to request 3 different dates ranging from 72 hrs to a week later and they submitted the "request" to the warehouse to see what they could do, to which I got a response that it would be 3 weeks out instead. This would put me over the 30 day mark that's included, meaning I would have to pay for another 30 day rental on the containers. I called what seems like a thousand times to see if there was something they could do. For the first few times, I was told that it was definitely fixable and that they would submit a "request" to expedite delivery. At the end of the day, I had to wait the full 3 weeks, BUT I ended up calling PACK-RAT Customer Service directly and found out that they actually set up delivery at destination at the same time as they set up pick up at origin location...which just added to my anger. - I get partially reimbursed for my move, and as such, part of the quote I requested included weight tickets for both full and empty containers. I called twice before receiving the containers to make sure everything was on track for delivery and weight tickets, and was reassured it was. A few days after they picked up the containers I called again to make sure they were weighed, since I hadn't received the weight tickets, and I was told that they would put a "request" in to inquire the status, to which I received an email back stating that the weight tickets were NOT part of the services requested, and that they would have to be completed at the destination warehouse and charge me extra for. At this point I was already skeptical of their ability to do anything right, so I was calling every few days to check on the status of everything, which every rep, and even a resolution specialist supervisor, reassured me everything was great every time. Once my delivery was FINALLY scheduled, I had to visit the warehouse on the scheduled day of delivery because they were MIA, and they told me that the weight scale was not open on weekends and that they did not know why my containers were scheduled for that day since they needed weight tickets. - As you noticed, I put "request" in quotations. Both Zippy and PACK-RAT only have one number you can call. No option for different departments, or information on HQ. Just Customer Service. Anytime you want anything done, these reps have to put in a "request" to the department in question and that's all they can do. One rep told me he was frustrated with the system because they have no way of contacting someone from those departments to follow up, they are just able to submit the request and hope that department gets the request and fulfills it in the time that the reps are trained to relay to us. Which, let me tell you, they never do. Anything you try to do (request delivery date, pick up date, get billing information, even requesting to talk to a freaking supervisor/manager) always takes at least 3 days due to their dumb request system. There are numerous other details that made my experience a horrible one, but I won't bore you with the details. I don't know if my experience would've been different had I received Zippy Shells instead of PACK-RAT containers, but I assure you, I will not find out. I am military and I move a lot, and will NEVER use either company again. I'll pay a little extra to make sure everything goes as planned next time. Their customer service is horrible! The sad part is I never changed my original request, they just simply could not deliver on any of the things I paid for, even though I had to call numerous times along to way to check on them. read more

Worst experience! We moved cross country and paid extra to have it delivered a certain date. We called several times to confirm drop off and were told it would be dropped off that date. Got a call on said date of drop off only to be told it hadn't even left the original site. So our drop off got delayed a week . No one could do anything so we got screwed major. I have to leave 1-800-pack-rat a GREAT review after my experience with them. I had 3 weeks to move from San Antonio, TX to New Jersey and of all the quotes I received, these guys had everyone beat! I was nervous after reading negative reviews about being up-charged or not showing up on the date, but I honestly had none of these problems. They showed up on the day I was told and was only charged what I was quoted! The drivers kept constant communication with me both in San Antonio and New Jersey. No items were missing or damaged. If i could rate them 0 stars i would! I literally made a yelp account just to post this review so you know I'm mad! Last week we order the pod for a delivery for Wednesday when Wednesday comes the "truck broke down" so they said if they had a truck running they would attempt again i call them at 6pm they tell me they tried delivering and nobody was home and the driver had a picture mind you my husband was at home with our baby and we have a motion sensor camera on our garage NOBODY WAS OUTSIDE! Not only did they not send me the picture they told me they would try to deliver Friday again no pod and no reason or phone call so professional. I call them and they tell me Monday. Well here it is Tuesday and no pod! No reasons why they didn't deliver and no compensation just a bunch of buffoons running this so called "business" Long story short don't use them! I felt safer with it on my property, & could retrieve items I wanted quickly. So much less work, peace of mind, & about the same price as hiring a truck, movers, & a storage unit. I moved from Ohio to Texas & used 2 storage containers. Both containers were professionally packed by a moving company, doors were secured & picked up. I stored them in San Antonio for a few months until I moved into my house. Upon delivery, one of the unit doors was unlocked. I called the company & was informed by the S.A manager that the unit arrived like that. I asked him when were they planning on notifying me of this situation. All I got was excuses & an "I'm so sorry" I had stuff missing & all I got was the run around. Then they delivered my second container, the door on that was closed, however, when we opened it, I thought I was going to loose my mind. If it was breakable, it was smashed. It was like they dropped the unit. Everything breakable was bubble wrapped & it made no difference, it was distroyed! Don't know if that was in retaliation for the first call but when I tried to file the claim, I was told that the insurance policy that I was quoted having was no longer. How? They also told me that it was packed incorrectly. I said really, & how did you come to that conclusion? she said that's the only way my stuff would break like that. I told her it was professionally packed & I have pictures. That's when I was informed that there was nothing that she could do. Yeah right! They are thieves & liars. New Mac Desk top, screen smashed, Mirrors smashed, Collection of jazz art prints, smashed & the list goes on & YES i have pictures of the damaged items. This company sucks!!! Do not use! I planned my move to a T, for delivery on June 15, it's now June 18 and my containers have not left San Antonio TX for Silver Spring Md. I won't see my stuff until June 22 and I had them pickup the full containers on May 31. They promised me my containers would be in Silver Spring on June 15, now they won;t get there until June 21. They've robbed me of my one week of leave to unpack. And they offered a paltry sum of money for a screw up that they acknowledge they made. They screwed up completely and are not now sleeping on the floor with their family for 6 days for which they offered $50 a day. A hotel in DC costs double that not to mention leave days spent on nothing since there is nothing to unpack. Go with any other company, even a homeless person, you will be better off. The containers they delivered to ship my stuff were also torn up and shredded so if it rains during your move, you're stuff will get water damaged.
