Picked up coffee here as we were passing through Hood River to get to Mount Hood. We arrived about 15 minutes before closing and my husband ran in to quickly order and iced latte for me and a cortado for himself. My latte was made with their seasonal blackberry syrup and it wasn't anything very good (my husband's choice based on the barista's recommendation). My husband was also not terribly impressed with his cortado (too much milk). Maybe we'll give them a try again the next time we're in town. read more

Camping along the river, with trains running all night, I was def in need of coffee but not expecting much from the tiny town. However, I couldn't have been more impressed with this place! Exceeded my expectations and is up there with some of my fave coffee shops! Came here multiple times and not only did I very much appreciate the "traditional 6oz cappuccino?" I swung by for a quick coffee. There were three workers, and they all greeted me with a friendly smile. No one was in line and I got served quickly. I would say I was in and out in less than 3 minutes. They do have a place outside and inside to sit if you need to work or are going there for a coffee date. read more

Love local coffee shops! 10 Speed serves up delicious coffee drinks, they roast their own beans for pour overs and to make their espresso drinks. No bitterness or burnt flavor; just rich, smooth well rounded perfection. The beans must be popular as many come in just to purchase them! Located on 13th Street amongst a few other shops, restaurants and a bakery, it's far enough away from Oak Street that most tourists don't wander this way. Since I like going where the locals eat and drink, I go out of my way to explore places off the beaten path. The owners and baristas are super friendly. The shop is quaint, adorned with bouquets of fresh flowers from local farms, a much appreciated touch! They also sell pastries and if you are lucky enough to be there when they have cardamom buns, get one! Amazing. Seating available on main floor, upstairs and picnic table outside, which is always my preference. Great way to start your day in Hood River! Or a pick-me-up mid day to keep you going! This place is great! I love trying new coffee shops and roasters. They just have more appreciation for the coffee, the process and the farm where they source their beans from. I first came here for their 17th birthday! Can't believe this place has been in business for 17 years but it makes sense since everything was amazing. I tried the pour over with the Kickstand blend ( it's the only house blend) and it was delicious! Most places don't take the time to make pour overs since they require more time and patience. My girlfriend tried the cappuccino. We bring our own mugs to coffee shops to save some cups. Ours are bigger mugs so sometimes if we ask for an 8oz cappuccino, the baristas will just fill the rest of the mug with milk which just ruins the proportions of the drink. This place was one of few that actually made a correct drink for us in our own mugs! On top of the great coffee menu, 10 Speed also had some pastries from White Salmon Bakery. We got the cardamom roll and that was just the best cardamom treat I have ever tried. I also ended up buying a few bags of coffee from here of their single origin coffee and made some French press style at home and loved all of them! I had left a review about 6 months ago, but in reviewing my "insights" on Yelp, I noticed my review of 10 Speed was mysteriously gone. Instead of addressing their own issues, I can only assume 10 Speed figured out a way to have my review deleted??? I don't remember every detail of my original review, but I remember my review was poor because one of the girls working behind the counter, who I assumed was the manager, was pretty rude to a tired looking woman wearing scrubs, sitting by herself, deep in thought, quietly eating her pastry. She had violated 10 Speed's made-up rules and the manager made sure the customer knew it. I felt really bad for the nurse or doctor. In the manager's unprofessional medical opinion, the woman was a COVID vector by eating her bagel in her shop or whatever. I remember in my previous review saying something about how this coffee shop does not have to be like this under Governor Brown's order and most coffee shops in town are not this needlessly strict. I also remember suggesting going to any one of several other coffee shops in town for a better experience such as Ground, Doppio, Dog River, or Kickstand. read more

Found this place on Yelp on the way to our trip. Very cute shop that remind you a little mountain house. Inside is pretty small but the drinks we ordered were delicious, and the staff was so nice and friendly! If I have another time to pass by, I'd def go back. High recommend! read more

I have been coming this coffee shop weekly over the years, even when Brian owned it but now have to leave a review. The staff person who works there with the colored hair is probably the rudest person I have dealt with in Hood River. Not only does she make up her own rules in regards to the pandemic ( like you can't sip your coffee to make sure the creamer was correct on your $5 americano), she makes snide comments when. I don't tip, slams containers around. I witnessed this fine activity in front of Ben, the owner last Saturday and will not be back. Please train her properly or fire her. Went here for the rating but was incredibly disappointed. When I paid, the young woman asked if I wanted to leave a tip. I asked if I could write it. She said no, so I asked how I sign it? She said you don't at this time. So I asked if it was due to COVID. She said yes. TOTALLY understandable. I asked if my sticky bun could be heated and she, without a word, put it in the toaster oven. There was awkward silence. she started making cat cooing sounds to the other person behind the counter as if to indicate I was catty. She then slid my pastry back. Really great coffee here -- a 12 oz drip coffee ($2) and a scone ($2.75) will give your day a real boost. Seriously, one of the best scones I have ever had -- really awesome. The scones are wholesome (think "granola-ee") and innovative (gingers/peach/cranberry, etc.). I heard the pastry chef is quite the culinary artist. Also, the $1 donut is fantastic -- they have blueberry donuts topped with powdered sugar that are sure not to disappoint. Love the bicycle themed decore in here. Very cool. You choose the type of bean you want, it is then ground and brewed while you wait in this neat filter stand contraption. Nice place to relax while doing laundry down the street. At its best, coffee is a transporting experience -- a vehicle to remembering and reminiscing over experiences of a place. I had just this experience this morning at 10 Speed. In college, I spent a summer in Kenya and this morning I sipped a single origin pour over from Nakuru. I remembered being on safari in the reserve in Nakuru and all the flamingos on lake. The pour over was smooth and all that a Kenyan coffee should be. The prices were really reasonable - just $2.25 for a large pour over. The barista was warm and laid back and her vibe exuded in the space. It all felt just right for a summer Sunday morning. read more

This place felt like a movie set--everyone and everything looked right but underneath there wasn't much substance. I had to request water that was properly hot for my tea, the bagel wasn't that different from what I could buy in the supermarket, the barista had a bit of an attitude. My favorite coffee places in town all get 5 stars and they have different aspects that I equally appreciate. 10-SPEED - Chill vibe, friendly staff, less busy than others because it's not downtown, which makes it especially great in the summer. KICKSTAND - Best food, great outdoor and indoor seating. Louder and more social than the others so it's better for larger groups and mingling. And they have coffeebeans and cool logo merchandise for sale! GROUND - Always plays the best music. Good work space and good for meetings. DOPPIO - Best working space coffeehouse in the winter. Yeah! 10-speed is probably the best coffee in this part of the hood...Their Mocha's are excellent with a hint of Vanilla with an extra garnished of dusting of coco on top with one of the best Rosetta art Ive seen besides the champs over at Urban Coffee lounge in Kirkland,WA. I had a foodgasim over their Ham and cheese croissants. Cheesy, fluffy and buttery croissants where absolutely deelishis and it makes me want to drive the 3 hours to this Oregon roaster just to get my fat fingers on one of those. The vibe is great, mellow with a lot of bicyclist hanging out with this shop dog that I refer to the mayor of hood river that walks around and greats everyone in a mellow beach dog way. I go to a lot of coffee shops and I'm willing to say with plenty of confidence that 10 Speed is about as good as a coffee shop gets. I highly recommend their pour overs. They are done to perfection. Off the menu, the atmosphere is wonderful. Be sure to check upstairs for additional seating and a bit more privacy. Staff is friendly, helpful, and with a great sense of humor. Totally just happened upon this coffee shop, thanks to my Yelp iPhone app. Some of the best places I have found seem to be discovered that way. I can't say I tried the pastries here, nor can I say I chatted it up with the staff. It was early and I just needed a coffee....bad. I ordered up two of their largest size White Chocolate Mochas (WCM) and hit the road. It wasn't until I settled back into the car that I sipped down their frothy concoction. Yowza, their coffee is the bomb! I thought I already had the best WCM but I was very wrong. 10 Speed Coffee has THE BEST WCM I have EVER tried! Hands down!! Had I tried it in the store I would have told them so....but we were a mile away by that time. Next time we are in town I know where to get coffee! Wow for me their coffee was like hi-octane racing full. Had a real short trip to Hood, and needed a good coffee shop (off the main drag). The doppio had me seeing things... it has great. My girl loved her bravia latttes. Super good flavor in their beans! The only thing that through me off was I got a cupcake and I believe it was gluttin free, and since I am not cool enough for the gluttin free trend, I was dissappointed they didn't give me a heads up on that (or I hope it was gluttin free, because if it wasn't they need to get a new cupcake maker). Located up in the heights (and out of the hustle and bustle of Oak St) is the regular stop for a ton of locals who know what great coffee is and doesnt need crowds, uncomfortable seating, and silly gimmicks. So I'm assuming that have great beans (that appear to be roasted on their own). They also have a very small food menu including some breakfast sandwiches and a decent pastry selection. Good coffee, free wifi, and a comfortable place to hang out. The upstairs is nice and quiet, with comfortable seats. They have free wifi, but you have to ask for the password. My only complaint was that they close fairly early, at least it was at 4:00pm when I was there. This wouldn't have been a problem except the barista didn't tell us until after we ordered, at 3:50pm, with plans to stay. She was nice enough to let us hang out upstairs while she cleaned and closed up shop, but had we known before we ordered we probably would have found some other place. read more
