Another day of Spanish cuisine. The place looked empty. However, it got filled up quickly. Although one must also consider it's a Monday. Service and ambiance were good. Since it was my first time, the server explained very well the selection of dishes. Nevertheless, I have a mixed review on the food. Some appetizers were good, and others lacked the right condiment. Temperature was so-so but consumable. The cod croquetas and the calamari were on point. The bread was soft and warm. Now, onto the other dishes. The paella was a but to salty. The paella shrimps dried up a bit, so patience on separating the shells. The garlic shrimp was relatively almost dried, not to mention that it lacked the garlic taste. The name comes from the ancient Spanish culinary habit of filling small slices of bread with various ingredients found in the kitchen. Hence, Jose Maria Capitan and staff came up with 100 different proposals for a Montadito. They now have over 350 eateries in Spain, 34 in Italy, 20 in Portugal, 13 in Mexico, 5 in the United States, 3 in Guatemala, 2 in Columbia, and one each in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Paraguay, and Ecuador, with Panama rounding out their international holdings. According to Wikipedia, the holding company in the U.S. filed for bankruptcy in 2015. They went from a total of 17 here to 5 and paused any further U.S. Expansions for now. Suffering from insolation inundation one only finds in Southern Florida, I was thankful for the cool, crisp air conditioned air that hit my face right before my olfactory senses were immediately attacked by the aroma of freshly baked bread as I entered this location. My server is Leo. He warmly greeted me in Spanish. He immediately switched to flawless English when I told him I don't speak that Romance language. Leo informs me that everything is made to order. I faked a slight cough to wipe the drool from my lips and asked Leo for a Number 70 and 91 Montaditos. Considering they bake the bread and make each Montadito to order, Leo was back in no time with my order. Before Leo had retracted his serving arm, I had Number 70 firmly in my mitts and headed straight toward my eagerly awaiting palate. This particular Montadito was a congenial concoction of Morcilla, roasted peppers, and an out-of-this-world chipotle mayo spread--the bread. The bread was amazing. Crisp, flaky crust, springy, chewy interior was what all breads aspire to be. The homemade Morcilla (sausage) was bursting with savory succulence, and the peppers were perfectly roasted. Forcing myself to move on from Number 70 (oh, how I love thee), I greedily grabbed Number 91 and, without ceremony, began chowing down. Number 91 was lovingly stuffed with Serrano ham, mozzarella, fresh tomato, arugula and made on-site pesto sauce. Serrano is regularly applied to all dry-cured ham products in Spain instead of jamon de York, which is cooked whole on the bone. Needless to say, this was as spectacular as Number 70. That bread, though!! I am confident they don't dry-cure the hog in the back, but Holy Porky Pig, this was phenomenal. The Big Boy says, "This chain food, scratch that. We had a great experience at 100 Montaditos! Parking was available even in a Saturday lunchtime. Their menu actually has " 100" choices so you sit and take your time deciding. We ordered two plates of types of croquetas, which were varied and excellent. Bechamel sauce makes them moist and delicious. An egg and Serrano ham cazuelita and some of their bread. Then for dessert fresh churros and a guayaba cheesecake. Two drinks and two cortaditos. Eventhough you order at the front the young man came over to help, take our order and was very sweet. Stopped by to grab a bite for lunch with some coworkers and it was great! They weren't kidding calling themselves "100 Montaditos" with over 100 sandwiches listed on the menu along with some other bites. They have a quick-service set-up where you order at the counter and pick-up at the window. I ordered the #5 and #9 and both were delicious! The mojo pork was well marinated and bursting with citrus and garic flavors. The mozzarella and pesto was light and refreshing but I do wish they had a chicken pesto option as well. We split some truffle fries and croquettas amongst the table and those did not disappoint either! The fries were not greasy and sprinkled with cheese. The croquettas were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The filling was very smooth. Wednesdays they have $1 off the whole menu so each sandwich came out to $1.25, thats cheaper than anything at the Dollar Tree now!! Back a couple of years ago the chain 100 Montaditos were popping up all over the 305. 100 Montaditos is a casual chain from Spain where they bring the idea of tapas and fit them into little sandwiches. They have almost 100 different sandwiches you can order as well as some other traditional Spanish tapas. This past weekend we ordered a little sandwich with Jamon Serrano (cured Spanish ham) and a mini caprese with fresh mozzarella and fresh pesto sauce. Both sandwiches were delicious, and the price of them is a real bargain. We also ordered a Spanish omelette which a little dry for my taste and needed more salt. For the main entree we ordered the Paella with calamari and ink, which was a little disappointing, very minimal pieces of calamari and the rice was also dry. For dessert we ordered their sweet Montaditos sandwiches with chocolate chip mini bread and stuffed with Nutella and Oreos. The best items here are their famous Montaditos, stuck with those to have a four star experience. The staff here are very friendly and quick. Two constructive criticisms: In my opinion, there is a specific audience that want to watch a Flamenco show and will reserve a table as requested, to watch Flamenco. I would stay away from salsa and other music genres. The other suggestion is to greet customers appropriately. We usually celebrate birthday at this location. Our group always picks up after ourselves and bring business to this location that is almost always rather empty on Saturday around lunch time. My dad asked and payed for extra protein in his sandwich and the sauces for both my rice bowl and for my salad came without without any sauce.
