This is a beautiful and peaceful property! You could sit on the deck all day with not a worry in the world. We went there specifically for the horseback riding. The people at the barn were very friendly and helpful. The trails could have been a little clearer, but it was still an enjoyable ride. There are many other activities you could do, like kayaking, hiking, ziplining, jungle rope, three pools, tennis, pickleball, volleyball, and more. The main lodge was a log cabin, with beautiful views and a couple of fireplaces. I had expected the decor inside to be more rustic (Yellowstone-ish), but some areas were not, which was a little disappointing. The food was nicely presented and delicious. But the time it took from ordering to actually getting the food was very long. The meals, I thought, were pricey for what you got. Also, there are two different menus. Ours was the same 3 or 4 entrees for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner for the entire 4-day stay. We went off the property for a couple of meals to have something different. There is a gift store on the property, which is in great need of a facelift. The people who work there were very nice and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The website makes this place look amazing but when you get there you realize you got a bait and switch. As you arrive you are greeted by the huge barn that says "1000 Acres" The place screams dude Ranch. The resort is cut in half by the road. The horses on one side and the resort on the other. The resort is undergoing some work, but is fully usable with just some rooms being renovated. The barn needs work and it is obvious that it is being neglected. There is a arena for rodeos that goes unused but was busy in the past. The petting zoo is more like look at animals in the fenced in area. The riding is enjoyable, Hedi who handles everything horses, is incredible, but has to deal with promises made by management that cannot be fulfilled. She is knowledgeable, friendly and willing to explain anything despite her busy schedule. Five stars for her and the other barn staff, but then you get to the resort. This place has a reputation as a dude ranch. They advertise a multitude of rides and ride types. They advertise a rich menu (Kosher). "After a full day of ranchin', you're going to be hungry! Our evening dinners offer a variety of delicious menu options to get you ready for tomorrow's adventures." The variety of delicious menu options for dinner is completely false. You have basically 2 options, take it or leave it. We were given Beef every night, if you didn't want that, they would go back to the kitchen to see if anything else was available. I get it, it's a Kosher kitchen, but there is far more than the same cut of beef that is kosher. There is not even courses to dinner. No salad, no bread, just the main dish if you want to eat the same thing every day for a week. That said the Beef was delicious, just not every day. Your lunch options are Tuna wrap, Egg Wrap, Salad and maybe if you are lucky a 4th option that changes. The food is delicious, but the menu needs a ton of work. BBQ Chicken, hamburger or Hotdogs would be welcome additions for a Dude ranch. The truth is Management has no idea what they are doing. The manager Joseph, who gladly introduces himself as the owner, has no knowledge and no desire to learn about horses, barn animals or anything this place is known for. The manager proudly tells you the resort was headed in the wrong direction then he took over. His direction as he states "to make this a place where jews going between Montreal and NYC can stop to rest and get a Kosher meal." That's great then advertise it as such. There is no posted schedule for activities. You have to ask as they are only open at certain times. The pools are open, there are kayaks and River tubes available at the shore. Everything else you have to ask when you can do it, that is if they even know. The staff is excellent. They are friendly, and do their able best to make sure you enjoy yourselves. It is obvious that they are hindered in this by management. Quite a few staff members told us that our concerns were common and constantly brought up to management. Management then turns a deaf ear. The resort has so much potential. It is on beautiful property. Again they need to decide are they a dude ranch or a Kosher resort that happens to have horses. As a side note, there is no cellular service on the property. The nearest signal is 2.5 miles away in either direction. They claim the Wi-Fi covers the whole resort however the guest Wi-Fi is spotty at best and only works when near the main resort building. If you rely on a cell phone for anything or need to be constantly connected, you are out of luck here. read more

We recently stayed at The 1000 Acre Ranch, and unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing vacations our family has ever taken. We visited this resort many times when we were kids and had wonderful memories, but this trip made us wish we had left those memories in the past. For the amount of money we paid, the experience was unacceptable. The food was terrible. There was very little variety, and it felt like we were eating frozen TV dinners every night. Chicken was served repeatedly, the quality was poor, and there were almost no appealing options. The pools were disgusting. One of them had a massive clump of hair floating in it, which completely turned us off from swimming. Cleanliness throughout the property seemed to be a major issue. The horseback riding was another huge disappointment. Our family consists of experienced riders, yet every ride was restricted to walking only. There was no effort to accommodate different experience levels, making the rides incredibly boring. To make matters worse, the trail guides and trainers came across as rude and unfriendly. The rooms were equally disappointing. One of our family's rooms had so much mouse droppings that housekeeping had to come back and clean it again. Finding mouse poop in a room you're paying premium prices for is completely unacceptable. Overall, this resort feels like a shadow of what it once was. It has become an overpriced tourist trap that no longer delivers the quality or experience it advertises. We left feeling ripped off and extremely disappointed. Save yourself the money and book somewhere else. We certainly won't be returning. read more

My grandkids and I had an awesome time! Ranch hands were experienced and welcoming . We're local so we just went for the hour long trail ride. 1000 acres is actually a slightly rustic,charming resort. Looking into their amenities, I found that every guest receives an hour of horseback Riding each day they stay included with accommodations. Needless to say,my 10 year old granddaughter told me we are taking her summer vacation at 1000 Acres. read more

According to their website there are atleast 4 different rooms, including private cabins. The website also lists the kind of horse centric and non horse centric activities available. Pricing for accommodations is per person and includes one ride per person per day as well as 3 meals a day and all of the non horse activities on-site. If what's on-site wasn't enough to fill your time, the ranch is about a 20 minutes drive from Lake George as well as hiking. Gorgeous setting - the property is nestled along the banks of the Hudson River and the shadows of the Adirondacks. The stables and paddocks lay on side of the road under the shadows of the mountain. The accommodations, saloon, dining hall, basketball court, horse show pits, pools, beach, kayak launch and main office are on the Hudson River side. Our room had recently been renovated as the smell of newly hewn pine would attest to. The country cabin vibe was clean and the bed/ pillows were very comfortable. It also had a mini fridge, cable, WiFi and flat screen TV. It has a cute little porch attached with seating out front for 4 to watch your kids or just enjoy the view and sounds of nature. Meals are: 9a Breakfast 1p Lunch 6:30p Dinner We were there for 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and a lunch. The food was great! Soda bar is available for refills as well pitchers of water and juice for breakfast and of course coffee and tea. * I'm not sure how it works for kids, I'm sure the Chef would work with you to get something they would like as he asked us. TIP: Bring snacks and additional drinks and keep in your in room fridge if you need. There's some gas stations and convenience stores in Lake George you can pick up some things of you feel like you or your group may need more. The stables are fine enough. There are helmets available, we brought our own. The horses are kept herd style and are grouped mainly in one big pasture. They bring in just the horses they need and switch them out as needed. The hands have the horses tacked and waiting for you, so make sure you come on time or even a bit early. TIP: The larger the group the more time wasted getting everyone on a horse and it'll start eating into your ride time. The first ride - NO MATTER WHAT BOX YOU CHECKED- is an assessment to see where you're riding skills and horsemanship are at. They try to find you a horse suitable based on what you rated your skill level and observe your riding up and down slight hills and the trails in general at a walk and trot. After that ride, the barn manager will let you know what types of rides they feel comfortable you can do next. There is a lead guide and another hand in the rear of the group. - A fast ride- which is the same as the first ride with loping/cantering and more aggressive steeper hills. If you want more rides - for an additional fee you can take lessons, work cattle, take a several hour trail ride or even cross the Hudson and trail ride more! The horses used for trail riding are atleast shod in the front if not all 4. With the rockiness, brush, hills and sticks it's important to keep their feet healthy. We got there extra early and they allowed us to brush our horses and assist them in tacking them as well. Obviously, this is only possible when there isn't a lot of other guests otherwise you could just be in the way. Everyone in the stables was knowledgeable of our horses personal quirks and how best to communicate to them..this horse listens better to neck rein vs plow rein or leg pressure vs reins. Shout out to Baby and Black Jack! We had a total of 3 rides - the assessment, a fast ride and a longer fast ride and used the same horses as we seemed to fit well with their personalities. But, if you wanted to try a different horse let them know - they would do their best to accommodate. You get one ride per nights stay per person, if you want more tell the barn manager and they will tell you what time and you would just pay the front desk. The owner is on premises the entire time. Staff everywhere were friendly, asked how our stay was going and if they could do anything to make it better...and on my birthday at dinner they had gotten me some pretty flowers, card signed by all the ranch team and even a piece of gluten free cake!!! SUPER thoughtful, sweet and made my day! The current owner has had the property for a year and has been working on improvements. The pools outside and some of the rooms/cabins are going through renovations currently. The indoor pool area was ok, we couldn't find the lights, but there was enough natural light from the windows to see.. but the hot tub was more like a Luke warm tub so hopefully that's on the list soon to update. read more

We just returned from our weekend at the ranch and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. We had such a fantastic time! The staff was welcoming and accommodating and could not have been nicer. Our cabin was great, and thankfully had heat because the weekend was a surprise 60 degrees!!! (I was not prepared!) The food was great and plenty of it! I am not used to 3 full meals a day but welcomed the frequency since we hiked, did rail riding, and horseback riding! Sitting by the water in the evening with the fire was relaxing before we turned in. I loved riding horses and felt totally safe with the guides as they knew which type of horse to place you on depending on your abilities. (Mine were none) They went out of their way to make you feel secure and comfortable and took us on some great trails. I am already thinking about who I will bring on my return visit. Apparently the ranch is under new management (about a year now) and they are exceptional! Thank you for a great memorable weekend! read more

Beautiful property! All the staff were super nice, friendly and helpful. I trails for the atvs were awesome as well! The food was great! Much better then I was first expecting. Breakfast was 8:30am lunch was 1pm dinner was 6:30pm. Lunch had so much food options I had to have a little of everything. All breakfast lunch and dinner were buffet style which I liked. I liked the lake, the indoor pool and hot tub was a huge plus for me and the kids (we love the water). There are two seasonal outdoor pools, basketball and volleyball court, horseshoes and more. The cabins are nice and cozy as well and the bed was sooo comfortable! read more

Kate Wyatt and her crew were excellent Location, activities and value I highly recommend it. if you want a riding adventure within driving range of the tri-state area,this is it. Gorgeous trails mostly under shade with sand and leaf ground cover. We came in the fall for a little less hustle. Summer has more action with outdoor pools and river activities . Lake George is less than a 1/2 hour to lots of restaurants and shops. Breakfast-lunch-dinner were included. They have a varied menu with well cooked meals. An hour horseback ride is included each day of your stay. New ownership has already done a lot of improvements, with a lot more planned. Although your stay is geared for the horse rider, with water activities,hiking,and Lake George so close, anyone would be happy here. 1000 acre ranch has made my mountain riding dreams come true. Next on my bucket list is to ride on the beach. read more
