Properties are beautiful and well appointed but they are notorious for after charges with claims. My recent stay I was not happy that they don't release the address until check in time especially when traveling 3 hours to get there. Overall, the unit was relatively clean, although I did find hair left in the shower and cobwebs in the bunk area. The hot tub had not been cleaned and, despite being covered, was full of leaves and bugs. The shower water pressure was extremely weak and noticeable cob webs throughout the home. Also, the bunk bed is listed as a king bed, which is inaccurate. Despite these issues, I was happy with my stay and was even considering booking one of their properties again. Several days after my stay I discovered an unexpected $500 charge on my credit card with absolutely no notice or warning. When I checked the app to find out what the charge was for, I found a message from the host simply stating: "stained linens throughout the rental." This accusation was both vague and unreasonable. We barely used the rental and only slept in one of the 3 beds and followed all check out rules to leave the unit spotless. To be charged $500 after the fact, without any prior communication, photos, evidence, or opportunity to discuss the issue, was extremely disappointing and has completely changed my opinion of this property management company. After contacting Vrbo to dispute the charge and multiple attempts to contact the property with no response. northern provided photo proof of alleged soiled linens. 1. A kitchen towel/rag that had signs of food on it (washable), 2. A pillow case with a slight soiled spot (washable) and 3. A towel that had dirt marks on it (washable). All issues were normal use and could be washed and definitely did not result in the need to replace: as requested by northern to the extent of 1. 2 pillow shams (only one was soiled) 2. a new comforter which they had no proof of any damage to 3. New dish towel 4. 6 full sets of towels (only one set was even used - they provided 3 total - 1 set for each bed and the unused ones remained folded in place where they were placed by northern) Potential guests should be aware of the possibility of additional charges, inaccurate bed sizes and most important significant post-stay charges and proceed with caution. Inspect every inch upon arrival and before departure and take photos and videos. Or even better. Don't stay at their properties at all.

From there, we received printed and digital copies of various packages, enhancements, lodging options, suggested vendors, and contact information. We got to book a complimentary tasting session and got beautiful small portions of various options for our several courses to be served at our wedding. The chef at the Erlowest is a flavor genius. It was difficult to narrow down options when everything is absolutely one of the best bites I've ever had. Our wedding coordinator Liz seriously made sure we were taken care of from the moment she began working with us. She impressed me with her professional and prompt communication, personalized suggestions for our reception, and how she made sure we were comfortable and happy on our wedding day. The other staff at the Erlowest took such good care of us and our 100 guests from the night of the rehearsal until the morning after the wedding when they held onto our wedding cake top tier because we forgot it! They even held onto our ceremony flowers until we had time to come scoop them up later in the weekend. There are many different room options--some facing the Hudson River, some with porches--and our room was a small, cozy cabin. It was clean, the mattress was soft, and although the bathroom only had a shower, it suited us fine. This week there were many families, and most of the activities were geared toward children. The only activity with an extra charge was horseback riding; everything else, including the petting zoo, kayaking, rope climbing, biking, and more, was free. My wife and I spent most of our time enjoying the amazing scenery and relaxing on the chairs overlooking the Hudson. Three meals a day were provided, and the food was plentiful, varied, and very good. There was also a minyan three times a day, and the manager gave a short dvar Torah after Shacharis and Mincha, which added a meaningful touch. Granted our group has been getting smaller and smaller in the past three years (due to them jacking the prices up), but we always try to make the best of things. I had noticed ahead of time, that the website now lists the place as "Kosher" but their image on the "Food" section showed Ribeye steak, and other amazing looking food. that was NOT the case! they had gone back to ALL meals being "buffet style" which to me is the lazy way out of preparing quality meals. In years past, they also went buffet style but we kept complaining and the last two years they actually had legit menu's with amazing food (although they NEVER took into consideration my friends that were diabetic!). We were told due to the new Kosher meals, that we also could NOT order any pork (so no breakfast sausages or bacon with your meal!) Breakfast and Lunch we were told for Kosher were dairy based? and dinner they would serve some form of beef, but NEVER did I see a choice for a nice ribeye like on their website! The one thing that seemed nice when I first arrived was the newly expanded Office area. they blew out the back wall, so that the office goes clear into the bar area, so walking in and seeing the office desk to the right, and seating area on the left, I honestly felt like I was in some fancy resort! But that was the extent of the "resort" feel. About 3 or 4 years ago, the very run down Duplex units (four duplexes with rooms for two parties in each) were torn down and new Duplexes were build from the foundation up. But that too was when they just about TRIPLED their price for the stay (and that was for ANY room, not just the new duplexes) we were also told that the cabins were going to be next, but they never upgraded those. Also on this most recent stay, I found out that most people in our party (we had about 13 people) the TV's were not working at all (no signal?) I was surprised that my room in Deer Leap did in fact have a functional TV as well as in the bar! So, half of the place was without TV. The bar, was pretty much EMPTY of any type of alcohol so we had a very limited selection (and sadly this is a place they normally could make a lot of extra money!) We also found out that the Jewish group there had an event going on in the dining room and they even removed some of the alcohol from the BAR to be used exclusively for the jewish group in the dining hall! So, it seriously seemes that this place is now catering exclusively for the Jewish community!!! THE PAVILION: we always enjoyed spending time in the pavillion too while we were there. But it was blocked off and decorated again exclusively for the Jewish group for their religious services!!! Had I known of all this nonsense, I would have saved my money and gone to Ridin Hy which is supposedly only 30 minutes down the road! OH and one more vital thing: some of those in our group were told that we were the LAST group to go there, as they were filing BANKRUPCY!!!

The staff from front desk to house keeping & pool/kayak attendants were all lovely. Fresh towels provided daily and additional towels provided by the pool. What more can you ask for? Even with Oktoberfest raging below, once the balcony door was closed the silence was so complete that I could almost hear my own thoughts apologizing for existing. The hotel sits right on Canada Street, which is the main artery of Lake George's little heart. Shepard Park is practically across the street, full of families, music, and the particular chaos of people on vacation trying to have a perfect time. The staff managed to stay cheerful through it all, smiling with the kind of sincerity that must come from good training or good souls. Parking was a game of Tetris, but I was grateful for the garage. Once my car was wedged in, I had no reason to drive again. Everything that mattered was within walking distance. The rooftop terrace deserves a poem, though I am too lazy to write one. The lake spread out below, blue and calm, and for a few minutes I believed in peace on earth. There is no hot tub, which feels like a crime against nature. The patio outside the pool almost begs for one. Imagine sitting there in January, snow falling into the water, steam rising like forgiveness. The restaurant did not thrill me, and the prices made my wallet flinch. Still, it was a fine stay, the kind that makes you feel momentarily better about the human race before the bill arrives to remind you of reality. Four stars.
