Many years ago the Red Barn was a well known prominent venue for antique hunting. The location is perfect; just south San Jose on 101 and 156 east of Castroville from PCH (Hwy 1). The red colored barn stands conspicuously on the east side of the freeway. Antique and flea market vendors would be inside the barn hawking their vintage treasures to bargain hunters. The Red Barn still stands, repainted and looking redder than ever. On a recent Sunday, I went there hoping to spend a day rummaging through pre-owned valuables and keepsakes. Unfortunately, the Red Barn have been turned into a full fledge carnival style out door market. No vintage or antiques in sight. Just new products e.g. knock-off sport apparels, jerseys, caps, sombreros, jeans, costume bling bling, Spanish pop CDs, fruits, vegetables and taquerias selling tacos, papas, tortas, chorizos and panaderias selling lots of pan. There were lots of Pacifico chelas (practically, almost everyone had a can in hand). There's even a bouncy area for kids to play while grown-ups sip on their cervazas. Sadly, I left disappointed within two hours after wasting $10 for parking. read more

I visited for the first time today, on the recommendation of friends. Most of the booths are selling "new" stuff - clothes, hats, leather goods, jewelry, kitchenware, toys, electronics, tools, etc. A lot of it is made in Mexico, so it has a pretty distinct vibe. There were just a handful of people selling "used" stuff, but that's OK, there's still a lot to see and some really good buys. There are also a few produce stands, so you can get some fresh, locally grown produce. There is a ton of "Mexican Street Food" - tortas, tostadas, quesadillas, elote, and baked good like conchas and pan dulce. They also have a bounce house for kids, and a mechanical bull! I spent a couple of hours there... bought a few things, had some great food, and chatted with people. It was a lot of fun! read more

If you enjoy flea markets for the finds and deals then this flea market isn't for you! First off you pay 10 bucks to park. The vendors here rude and they sell the same merch at every other stand. Theres like 4 or 5 spots where u can rummage through boxes and find some stuff. Other than that they just have food music and dancing. Spanish music and dancing isnt my thing so to me this place was horrible. If thats your get down then this is the place for you. Overall, loud spanish music, food vendors, same merchandise being sold at every other stand down the way and 10 buck per parking sorry but this will be my last time at the barn. It has been over two months since I made of my formal complaint with their management team and not only is their inbox for via email but their voicemail box is also full. I'm going to keep reaching out until I contact somebody otherwise it is safe to assume that this is how they handle customer issues, they just don't. They depend on the high volume of their repeat vendors who have been going there for 20 years and make no space for New individuals learning the ropes. I would really appreciate if somebody could get back to me as I have reached out in every way possible. When they're only open one day a week and they don't check anything in between I really don't find this place professional whatsoever and something tells me they're breaking business ethics from a reporting and permitting standpoint. read more

Even though there are mixed reviews on this place i would have to say i was quite surprised. Flea market was overall pretty clean & organized. There was also plenty of food vendors to choose from. Only downfall was proly the overpriced parking fee... $10 to park. Kinda high for a flea market imo. read more

This is not a Flea Market, it is Mexican Bizarre. Only 3 vendors had any used goods at all-2 were power tools. ALL the rest were selling cheap china made "New" products, like you find at Dollar Tree. Too many men standing around drinking beer in tall cans, wife didn't feel safe. Half the place was food. Nothing in the Barn except a wrestling ring. Parking is now $10, and it was hard to find a spot. We stayed 10 minutes and left. Nothing like it was years ago. Very disappointed. read more

If I didn't have to pay for parking, this wold have moved up in my review. If you looking for an inexpensive outfit with a Mexican flair, this is the place for you, as plenty of vendors. I would come here more for the food (yum for the roasted corn and fresh fruit), but that's not worth the extra parking expense. I remember this flea market as a kid going there with my mother. The price for parking is way too high in my opinion. And the vendors selling at the red barn are only selling junk. Even the produce stands which is what my mother used to go for have declined. I like to go to the flea market every once in a while in search for hidden treasures like antiques good produce and other little fun knickknacks. I give it three stars. If you find yourself a little bored and in the area I'd say you check it out and see for yourself. read more

Nice place to kill some time. But that's about it. Parking is six bucks. Beer is about six seven bucks depending on the beer and size. I found it odd that they give you the glass bottle. Anyway; my take on this place was a BIG Garage Sale. Nothing wowed me. Although if you do end up making purchases here know that the pricing here is a steal. Very inexpensive. Well, depending on what you purchase and who you bargain with. Example: I spent $30 on a fresh new pair of kicks for my girl (Pumas). We basically came here to kill time since we had nothing else to do on a Sunday. We drank a few beers, grabbed some botanas - garbanzos, nuts, a baked potato. All in all it wasn't terrible just simply put... There isn't much. So yea! we wont be back. read more

We drove by this place on hwy101 this afternoon and figured we'd check it out. It was about 12:30pm and there was a long line of trucks and cars going in. When we got to the entrance, we saw that $6 parking sign and we thought of making a U turn. But we figured since we are here, let's just check it out. Once we paid at the booth, we regretted it. The few "traffic" control crews there were total idiots as each will give opposite directions, leading two cars almost ran into each other. Big trucks cut each other off fighting to get into different lanes. At the end, the most beat up, big giant ugly trucks always got the "right of way". Parking was difficult to find; circling around the parking lot, fight with 50 cars while dodging kids and illegally parked 4x4 took some skill. After about 20 minutes, we lucked out and found a parking space. There were about 100 to 200 booths in the lot selling mostly clothing, shoes, and misc stuff - nothing that we need and want to wear. The price is Walmart price so I guess if you dig those stuff, it is not too bad. The stuff at produce booths don't look that great but the price is reasonable. Some food stall did seem to have some good food but the line was at least 20 deep. We were so hungry we went for some churro which was a good 15 minute wait in line. To be fair, the churro was good - better those from Costco. But is it three time better for three time the price? Hmmm... no. BTW, the barn is closed and there are absolutely no antique, no collectible, no Disney stuff (besides those knock-off t shirts). They should at least change the big sign. Will we go again? No! All in all we spent almost an hour there and the happiest time was the minute we managed to drive off the parking lot without major damage to our car. read more

Just realize what you're getting into if you swing by this place. We went on a Sunday because we thought that there would be Disneyana, BBQ, and antiques as the barn roof advertised, in addition to a flea market. Nope - only a flea market. Your standard fare - lots of fairly cheap food and goods - but definitely no antiques or Disneyana (or BBQ) to be found. The barn is empty, with all of the stalls outside. They charge $6 for parking, and once you get to the gate and realize what's actually there, there isn't really a good opportunity to turn around and avoid paying. I thought about letting Disney know that more than a few folks are likely getting suckered into this lot until false pretenses, but I'm not sure there's much they can do about it. read more

Don't go unless you need stolen electronics, used house goods i.e. mattresses, or clothing that will disintegrate in the washing machine. It's a waste of time and $6 period the end. (I did feel like I took a short trip to Mexico though) read more

Had some time to kill, and was intrigued by the "Antiques" in giant letters on the barn. There wasn't a single antique item anywhere, unless you count really old mattresses and shoes. Just really a bunch of garbage for sale along with some decent looking food. Huge waste of $6 read more

I don't know what to put for this place - so I chose something in the middle. Three stars. I passed it going down to San Luis Obispo on Sunday and it was packed. Line on the freeway to get in. I guess it's supposed to be a huge Flea Market that day. Passed it again today going back home to SF and I made a quick stop to check it out. First of all, on a weekday, though the building is open, the place is deserted. I mean, I was the only one walking around. When you go in, it's VERY creepy. It's almost like a movie set of an old town inside. Complete with old metal carriages. It looks abandoned. There were only two places that were open - one was a toy collectible place. The other, which I didn't go into, was also some sort of store of collectibles. I made a quick round and got out of there. I guess I should have stopped by on Sunday. But at least I can say I've been inside that big red barn on the side of the 101. read more

As Flea Markets go, this one is below par but it is the only game in this area. It is mostly produce & food with some clothing items tossed in. You should be able to speak some Spanish, some of the stalls don't speak much English. At least know how to ask - how much is this and understand the answer. It is largely a social gathering for local workers who live in the Aromas-Royal Oaks area. It is one of the places to see and be seen on your day off. The times I've been there it seemed safe, not much drinking nor gang activity. That can always change (and not just here) without notice. In the Salinas/Castroville/Watsonville area it is always a good idea to pay close attention to your surroundings and what you wear. Essentially, avoid wearing gang attire; blue or red anything, baggy/saggy pants, baseball caps turned at angles and sports team logos. This place does add to the traffic jam on 101 on weekends. In 2012, Caltrans will start an overpass at San Juan Road which should help. Another weekend flee market open up a few miles North on 101 at Betabell Road. Have not been there yet but should be easier to get on/off US 101 at Betabell since there is an overpass and frontage road. read more

What a sorry excuse of a flea market. Almost all vendors sell the exact same cheap tacky stuff. And the few who do sell used want to charge new store prices for used merchendise. They won't haggle or any thing. Booth after booth just different vendor not much variety of things avoid the trip waste of time. read more

They had one of the best produce areas and the prices were reasonable. The size of this flea market was small. So don't expect anything big!! They had a food truck that sold shrimp cocktail and OMG it was bomb! And the price was very reasonable!!! read more

I was hoping for more, maybe a bit of Central CA charm, but the $6 charge for entrance/parking seemed to be a rip off considering the place really only had one good thing: the farmer's market items. Not your typical flea market but they sell good food. Parking is $6 and literally on the side of the freway. They have definitely upgraded the entrance ( it use to be DANGEROUS ) and have more designated parking areas. As a child my family and I would stop by for the fruit vendors but now I come by once in a while for the food. read more
