Reviewers like these annoy me, they're like the schmoes on Fandango who write movie reviews based on seeing a trailer and not actually seeing the movie. In short, our experience was outstanding! The workmanship was excellent, the car was ready when they said it would be, and the people are very friendly. Here's the long story . . .Last summer my wife's beautiful 2005 Subaru WRX STI suffered parking garage abuse in New York City. The bumpers were scuffed and the rear side quarter panel was damaged. We took Suzy STI (we name all our cars, I drive Freddy Forester) to several body shops and got a wide range of estimates for repair cost and completion. We decided on giving 1042 a shot because of their great reviews on Google and YellowPages.com, and their Best of LI Awards. We were so happy we took a chance on them. The price was fair and when we went to pick up the car, we didn't recognize it because it looked almost brand new! Not only did they fix what we asked for, they also restored the clarity in Suzy's headlights and touched up minor paint chips/dings. After they were done, it seemed like Suzy was detailed inside and out. Even though we've moved to New York City, we will always go to 1042 for any bodywork. 1042 Collision appears very professional, and like me, you may be inclined to bring your vehicle here due to the amazing reviews they have across several platforms. From personal experience I want to warn everyone to rethink bringing their car here. I was rear ended and received some frame damage. The shop pulled the frame, ordered new parts, painted and gave me the car back. In total the process took about three weeks. Initially the first problems I noticed with their repairs were that the bumper did not line up with the rear quarter panel. There were gaps. My trunk also did not sit at the correct position, being slightly lower than the quarter panel on the driver side. Every time I would shut my trunk, it would slowly etch a line into the clear coat, indicating that the rear deck-lid panel was not lined up correctly either. Plastic was being marred on the tail light housing due to how the trunk shut. Paint on the trunk was being chipped away due to when it would hit the tail light housing. Interior trunk panels had massive gaps as well and did not sit flush. I left original reviews and the next day received a call from 1042, asking me to take them down and to come by so the car can be fixed properly. I appreciated the gesture, but unfortunately before I could go back was again rear ended at a traffic light. This time I opted to bring the vehicle to another repair shop, which was incredible, showing me the entire process and keeping me informed of what was going on. Now the worst part about 1042. They did not fix underneath the bumper properly, and there was rust beginning to form on the body panels because they did not use the proper rust prevention during the body panel repair! I can only imagine how bad this would have gotten left unchecked. For a body shop that had three weeks to fix my car, and got well over $5,000 from insurance to do this, I am disgusted by how terrible of a job they did, and can only imagine how many corners they cut on other people's vehicles in areas that you may never see. Please, do your research and look elsewhere for the sake of your wallet and your car. *I want to stress all photos but the three showing rust were from before the second rear end collision. I recently was involved in a vehicular accident on rt.109 a younger guy thought I should run a red light and he rear ended my vehicle. According to the Suffolk police officer who were right behind him, he was 100% at fault. Due to these circumstances I had to locate a collision place of my choice, I decided on 1042 Collision. I was greeted and spoken to by the owner Marie and the experience was enlightening, I found out that I had a choice of establishments not the insurance company picking a lesser qualified shop. This was the best move I made, since Geico attempted to have be go to a cheaper less experienced shop, which I know now after the repairs were completed it would have been a disaster. My vehicle looks and drives as if it was just out of the showroom. The staff was friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgable. The fact that Geico attempted to steer me in another direction and in violation of NY State law was unconscionable, I believe are not very reputable. I was total satisfied with the work performed, by Marie and her staff, especially a gentlemen named Bruce. My car was totaled while parked in front of my house by a driver who crashed into it while speeding down my street. Unfortunately, that driver had the same insurance company as me - so you know what that means. I found this shop on yelp because of its good service. And am I glad I did. I called Marie, the owner, at 1042 collision and she advised that I tow the car to her shop. Towing the car to her shop (vs. towing it to a shop on the insurance's preferred list), turned out to be tremendously valuable advice. It definitely helped when I had to negotiate the claim with the insurance (who was trying to scam me). Marie was an invaluable adviser to me during the whole claim process. She taught me what to lookout for to avoid being taken advantage of by the insurance. With her help, we were able to negotiate fair compensation ($1000 more than what we were initially offered). When I forgot my ez-pass in the car, Marie and her staff found it and kept it for us. I am a car enthusiast and meticulous when it comes to body work and paint. I also HATE dealing with the red tape and bulls!t that the insurance companies make you go through. They "trick" you into going to one of their auto body shops and they encourage you to use your own insurance even if you are not at fault because they say "we can not guarantee payment" if we go through the other parties insurance. This is always the case when the two vehicles have the same company so they can try to save $$ by you paying the deductible. I don't have time or patience for this nonsense. Not only is the work at 1042 flawless, Bruce and Marie make the whole experience a breeze. Basically drop your car off to Marie or Bruce and let them fight with the adjusters and put you into a rental while you fill out paperwork. I work for a global company several times the size that's revenue is in the 9 figures a year. This family run business can do lessons in customer service and teach us a thing or two. I love these guys. They worked on my 2014 grand Cherokee limited twice, and will be fixing my brand new Mazda (got rear ended today). I had a minor fender bender on my way to work. I spoke to a couple of my coworkers if they knew a place since I had no idea where to take it being new in New York. There were a lot of perks going to this place. One, it was very close to work so I was able to do all the necessary paperwork during my lunch break (the meetings never took more than 40 mins -- Marie is on top of it). Two, all I had to do was give the other guy's insurance to Marie and she took care of all the phone calls and billing. I never spoke to an insurance agent (a total plus!). Lastly, she took care of the rental car. She was very upfront with the Hertz associate (they have been doing business for a long time) and even gave me tips to save money. Overall, it was a great experience. The whole negotiation and getting my car fixed took no more than 10 days. For me, that's a huge benefit especially with never having to deal with the insurance agents. On top of it all, they even gave me a sweatshirt! I wish that they have a sister company that deals with car maintenance. If they did, I'd sure take my car there for anything it needs! read more

Everyone at the shop is incredibly nice and they make the not so pleasant experience of getting your car repaired after a collision less painful. While they had the car they kept in touch with the status of my repair, the parts needed, and the estimated price. In the end they completed the job ahead of schedule and their work was perfect. You would never know it wasn't the original mirror. While I hope to not end up back at 1042 it's nice to know you have a place you can trust like 1042 should you ever need collision repair. Terrible. 1042 and the insurance carrier could not agree on a price. While it is the auto body shop's right to reject the insurance carrier's offer, my car was held hostage until 1042 was paid $750. This fee included $150 in storage fees (those are industry standard), but the additional $600 mostly represented an "administration" fee and 10% of the offer submitted by the insurance carrier. 1042's written agreement does provide for the storage fees and 10% amount, but I have never heard of an auto body shop charging for services which were admittedly never rendered (i.e., the actual car repairs). Very unprofessional. While I cannot comment on 1042's quality of work (since the vehicle was not repaired), I certainly recommend that you stay away from this shop. read more

I found out about 1042 collision after doing a lot of online research and checking out what people had to say on yelp, google, and the Better Business Bureau. Although they specialize more in body work, I brought them my Lexus for mechanical problems. Everything about my experience with 1042 was professional and kind and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Before arriving, I called Marie, she explained exactly how they operated, told me their hourly rate (which is posted very clearly in the office), and made space for me to come in that afternoon. I had an absolutely horrendous experience with Rallye Lexus in Glen Cove. My car is no longer under warranty and they told me that it needed several thousand dollars of replacement parts. I wanted a second opinion and Bruce and Marie could not have been better. They fully inspected my car, treated it like their own, helped me figure out what I should and should not do to. keep the car in great shape. As a young woman who doesn't know cars well (and this is no doubt obvious to those working in the auto industry), I could not be more appreciative of the thorough explanation Bruce gave to me on the phone after the car was checked and when I picked up the car. He literally showed me how to look at everything under the hood -check the power steering fluid, the oil, the brake fluid, where the fuse box was located, etc. What most impressed me was that they actually did research on my specific car and alerted me to the fact that there is an established history of complaint of rack and pinions developing minor leaks and owners being told they need to spend 1900 to completely replace it. This turned out to be completely false, and Bruce found me much better rates if I ever need to replace it. I've since put over 1000 miles on the car (I went to 1042 back in early July) and it's been driving wonderfully. I was honestly so impressed with their work- I would absolutely return and will be recommending them to anyone I know. It was the first time at an auto repair shop where I didn't feel like they were calculating the maximum dollar amount they could scare me into spending, and I really felt like they were not taking advantage of my ignorance, but instead actually helping me learn more about taking care of my car.
