This dog run is definitely one of the better ones uptown. Unless you live on west end, it's a bit of a walk with some steep stairs to go down to get there, but people seem to pick up after their dogs, it's clean and a good size. The lighting could be better for nighttime visits, as it gets pretty dark. read more

A great dog park within Riverside Park. Fairly large with dusty ground instead of mulch. Easier to clean dirty paws. The larger area has about 4 benches for owners to sit and watch. Haven't seen any aggressive behavior from dogs yet, it seems owners are fairly aware they need basic training to prevent scuffles. A smaller area is on the south the a south side entrance as well. There were a few leftover dirty tennis balls I was wary of but it was not a problem. Overall clean and in order. Not much more to say other than it could use an extra bench. read more

We came to this dog run midday on a weekday so it was quiet and calm. Although it is 105th St, you have to enter Riverside Park a few blocks south or north of 105th St to get to the dog run. The main run is on the smaller side compared to the 72nd St dog run but large enough for dogs to run around and play fetch. It is sand & gravel fill so dusty as usual. The run seems to be taken care of and well equipped. There is a small tub and hose for dogs that like to go in the water. Rakes and bags as well. There is a small area as well but the gate is on the south side of the run and separate from the large run. I like the setting with all the trees and greenery of Riverside Park. It provided a good amount of shade when I was there. Plus there's the restaurant & platform across the run, but it wasn't open when I was there. However, there is not enough seating in the run. Maybe 4 benches. I can't imagine what it's like on a weekend or evening when there are more dogs and people. read more

This is my dog's dog run and so far its my favorite dog run because of the enviornment it has. Most people know my dog as the blue doberman who is still learning to interact with other dogs but we have made some helpful friends along the way. The people here really know each other when they come frequently and most people are very nice. My dog doesnt really enjoy being around dogs but most of the other dog owners have allow their dog to interact with my dog to give me a hand. My doggy Winter really loves it here! She loves running around and chasing the ball and I am glad to see her having fun, she starts to get impatient on her way to the dog run. I come normally two times a day, in the early morning when a lot of the same people seem to go and also at 6pm. By 8 pm you can enjoy music from the hudson beach cafe right in front of dog run in which random singers come and give really good gigs. I like listening to the nice music during the summer while the sun is going down and my dog is running around. Living in a busy part of the city were its mostly aparment buildings its nice to interact with my dog at a place we can both enjoy being. Even though the music is playing it is a pretty calm part of the park, no one causes a riot here. It offers three drinking bowls, normally it isnt hard to clean them. Everyone here picks up after themselves, cleans the bowls, rakes the area when the leaves fall. The neighborhood has been very active in its dog run compared to other dog runs i have seen. There is poopy bags avaliable at all times, theirs always a lot of clean tennis balls or useable ones in case you forgot yours. The space is spacious and the dogs always seem very active and willing to mingle and meet each other. I am very proud of this doggy park :) The flooring is made out of some sort of sand ingraved with small rocks which i think is easy to clean when my dog has done her duty. The only bad part is that during rainydays the sand gets sticky and my dog who enjoys sitting on the park floor gets a little messy. But other then that i don't really have other complaints. read more

I would not recommend this dog park as there are too many owners that are reckless and bring their untrained dogs to this run. My dog and I got attacked by at least three dogs today and no one, not even the owners came to get their dog off of me or my dog. Afterwards they saw nothing wrong with their dog attacking me, biting my hair and clothes (where they punctured multiple holes in) and called it "playing". read more

One of the O'Neil's chain of park cafes - the food offering is a bit thin and certainly not gourmet, but that's not the reason you go. It's the best spot for you and your pooch to relax in the afternoon and evening. read more

Maybe I came at the wrong time of day (7pm), but I was appalled with this Dog Park. I live on 135th Street & usually go to the Dog Park near me. I heard & read such great reviews about this one, so I took Beetle Juice to check it out. Visually, it's boring. Very few trees & this dusty litter-esque material coats everything. Secondly, the other dogs & people weren't friendly. I greeted everyone as I walked in & I was met with stares. Beetle Juice tried playing with other dogs, but they were either focused on Balls or just standing in place. Eventually, she found ONE dog who joined her for a game of chase. Beetle Juice walked up to other owners expecting some affection & got none. This is definitely not what I'm used to when I visit a dog park. The one plus is that there's a water hose. I don't think I'll be visiting this place again, but I do recommend everyone check out the Saint Nicholas Park Dog Run. It has sloping hills, picnic tables, rocks for dogs to climb on & plenly of friendly owners & dogs. read more

My 5-star ranking is kind of biased and a little random so take this with a grain of salt. I love sitting outside and my amazing puppy can sit outside with me while I have a few beers and throw back a few french fries, all at the same time while I people watch every person who walks by! The one afternoon I was here, it was a week night and I ended up just having a few Coronas and some french fries and everything was great! I didn't eat any of the other food but it looked good to me. I just couldn't help but stop and love this patio and being outside and having an accessible bathroom not far away! Definitely a big plus in my book... Oh and not to mention the dog park is across the street, so I took turns with my bf of taking the dog to play for a few minutes and then saunter back to hanging out and chatting our heads away! read more

This is an awesome dog park, with great dogs & great owners, friendly and kind....with ONE exception. There is an owner (female) that brings her 3 dogs daily at about 10am. Her dogs are very aggressive and are ALWAYS the ones to begin rough housing with the other dogs in the park. Despite this, when the owner "thinks" your dog is being to rough she physically reprimands them and is verbally abusive to the owner. I have seen her send people out of the park in tears dozens of times. It saddens me because it's a fabulous park.... But it generally empties out when she arrives because most regulars know her reputation. My dog LOVES this park so I still go, we just try to avoid her and her dogs when she is there, or unfortunately we just leave. read more

This is a great park. Plenty of room to run and a lot of active dogs. I am a bit concerned that small children are allowed at the park and interact with strange, and very active dogs. I am not sure of the park policy, but it has made me take my dog out when a youngster arrives after seeing one knocked into the air by a group of running, playing dogs. read more

This is just about the least-friendly dog run I've been to. I spend a lot of time at Morningside since it's down the street from me, but I was helping out some friends who live on 106. I was asked by one lady to hold my dog who was literally just standing there and not bothering with any dog in the run. Another lady was upset that a dog jumped on her and left some dust on the bottom of her jacket. I love Harlem and the proper upper west (the park by the museum is amazing) but whatever people are drawn to the area between are true bores. Don't go here unless you don't want your dog socializing. read more

Great dog run! Buster loves hanging out here. Us humans would prefer it if the dog run had stones instead of just dirt, but overall it was nice there. The only issue we had is that some inconsiderate parent brought their kid to the dog run and was allowing their child to dig a big giant hole in the ground. First of all, gross! Dogs pee and poop EVERYWHERE! I have even seen dogs pee on the benches before. If you think where your kid is playing is excrement free, think again. Sure in the outside world that kind of behavior isn't acceptable but remember... THIS IS A DOG RUN! Secondly, it is extremely dangerous for kids to be digging big holes in the ground because dogs can fall and break their legs too. So for parents who allow this behavior I have one word... RUDE! There's a big sign reminding dog owners to fill in any holes their dogs dig... the same rule should go for parents and children. /endrant I was debating saying something to the lady but as I was mulling it over, a big ole hound went over and barked at the kid (playfully) the kid got scared and ran to his mom and when he did, he dropped the stick he was digging with. The second the stick hit the ground, another dog grabbed it and ran off with it and that was the end of that. The kid continued playing in the dirt with his hands but luckily he couldn't dig much more and I had a good laugh. Judge all you want, but you would have laughed too. read more

I love this place! I travel all the way from 133rd St., on the far west side to come here on afternoons and early evenings in the summer. The dog run is a great place for my pup to run and play and the bar brings me a little relaxation, too. The prices are a bit steep - about $6 for a domestic aluminum bottle - but the limited summer food selection (hot dogs, etc.) is moderately priced. If you want to save cash, just bring your own beer and hang out in the run. I've done it several times and nobody has ever said anything about it, especially since the staff says that beer is allowed in there anyway and they can't say anything to you about not buying theirs because they don't own the run. read more

I see they added crushed granite litter material as ground cover. It wouldn't have been my first choice since it can get dusty and if you have a wet long haired dog its a pain to clean once it dries. Better choice would have been a thick layer of pea gravel or synthetic turf made for dog runs (only one dog run I know of uses it and it has gotten rave reviews) Tripping hazards have also been reduced by taking out some of the cobble stones near the benches read more

We come to this dog park regularly on weekends as most dogs and owners we encounter are very friendly and playful. We've never had any crazy issues coming here. There's sometimes a dog or two that may be too rough or an unattentive owner, but you'll find that anywhere you go. We've visited most dog runs in the UWS, Harlem and Washington Heights and this one is our favorite, by far. It's spacious, has a great view, and the park is nice to walk through after visiting the dog run. The dusty floor is much preferred over the mulch-and-dirt dog runs as it's easier to clean off, and this is one of the few dog runs that seem to consistently have dogs compared to others where there may be 0 - 3 dogs, max, when we visit (specifically the 135 St. Nicholas park run and the 165 St. and Riverside dog run). read more

They have really dona a great job resurfacing the run and cleaning it up. The dog walkers have been curbed as well. People are respectful and nice, and overall this dog run is on the up and up! (In the summer, it's also across from the Hudson Beach Cafe, where you can sit at a table with your pooch and enjoy a beer and some food!) read more

As an actual dog run, it's fine. The issue is the inattentive or careless dog owners who think bringing territorial dog toys to a dog run, or playing fetch with their territorial dog while surrounded by other dogs, is a good idea. Definitely one of the best dog park views around, but not much popularity.

We recently moved to the upper west neighborhood from DC. Actually, the 85th dog run is closer to us, but it seems 105th is more suitable for our dog. This place feels bigger than the 85th and attracts lots more active dogs. The 85th attracts smaller dogs? and they are not as active as bigger (bigger than mid size) dogs. Our dog loves chasing and wrestleing and this place have more of that types of dogs. read more

I frequent this park with my dog and husband several times a week. This dog park is great for large, active dogs like our husky.The park is quite large compared to some other dog parks in NYC, and it has a separate area for small dogs. There is a drinking fountain with a hose for the dogs to quench their thirst, and a kiddie pool, which my dog particularly enjoys. The park is well taken care of by numerous volunteers who work to keep it nice. Additionally, there is a useful Facebook page set up that updates about park closings, events, etc. read more

First and foremost I would have given this Dogrun five stars but based on the experience I had today I'm giving it three stars. God forebid if your dog nips another persons dog while playing your dog will be labeled as aggressive! I believe because people think they have dogs they know everything there is about dogs and animal behavior. How can your dog defend itself or learn to socialize with another dog if the dog owner is hovering over the dog like something horrible just happened. It's frustrating and it's not nice! I have been taking my dog to this park for a couple of months now and this was the first time I have ever encountered this and I was by far offended to be called out when everyone is sitting on the benches on their phone and not even paying attention or playing with their dog or reinforcing good behaviors with other dogs, while I'm playing with their dogs and reinforcing them for their good behaviors. When you behave fearful your dog behaves fearful. When you are timid your dog is going to be timid. People need to be trained not their animals. I'm very disappointed with that particular group of individuals. read more
