I used to live not far from here, and we used to take my good little buddy Max on walks all the time in this park while he lived in NYC. At one point unfortunately he developed a ton of anxiety for going outside, but he always felt safe and happy in this park. Despite being near a large road (100% safe, thanks to the big fences) he always felt at ease here. Is it the biggest, cleanest, most equipped dog run in the city? Far from it. Do they always have running water? Sorta. Is the super-steep stone stairwell at the entrance particularly easy to climb or walk down? Probably not, especially for the humans. But if you have a dog that wants to exercise and socialize a bit with other pups anywhere near the Midtown East area, this park is golden. There's almost always someone else there for your pet to see and greet, there's enough room to throw a ball/stick/frisbee around, and also benches for the owners to relax on. Plus enough trees and shrubbery for it to be more than just a concrete plot. It's a neat spot, and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. Worth the visit for sure. read more

Bow wow wow yippy yo yippy yay bow wow wow. I don't know what's dogs think in their heads but once they get to this park, it's like dog heaven and an adventure park combined. I was dogy sitting for a friend and they told me about this park. I walk east on 51th Street don't see anything. But when I get to the end I realized you got to go down some steps and a then walk bridge to get to it. Once down there I see that there are other ways to get here. all the dogs look happy and friendly and none are running around loose. This east side next to the FDR has some interesting things, but no stores that I can see but once summertime comes I want to walk some of it and explore. read more

I walk through this area and sometimes workout near the dog park fairly frequently. The neighborhood is very quiet and the park itself has a rich pine smell early in the morning around 6-7. The landmarks nearby aren't spectacular, but if you continue going south you'll discover a very nice small neighborhood tucked into the big city. read more

This is a hidden gem of a dog park, that is a lot of fun to visit! It's a little out-of-the-way but worth the walk, very friendly dog people and well behaved dogs. Not a bad run but the noise level is pretty high here with the FDR feet away from this run. Things it has going for it: - Seating for humans - Has a water - Has poop bag - Plenty of shade - Mostly concrete ground cover - Good fencing, gates and entry area Things it has against it: - Could be bigger - No bathrooms for humans near run but in park Not a bad L shaped dog run. Getting down to the run in the winter is a little hairy with the stairs that are currently there. There are areas that are just dirt, if its were pea gravel or synthetic turf , water source upgrade and add a small dog run it would probably be a 4 star run in my opinion. Not a bad spot, but definitely not the safest. The ground is all stone which makes for easier injuries for any type of dog. My main issue with this park and it's people, is the lack of attention people give to their own pets. People just let their dog off leash and go sit down and read a book. Meanwhile their dog is on the other side of the park hurting other dogs. And then there's absolute psychopaths who come here and can't respect people's or dogs boundaries. Underrated dog park in Midtown East. Slightly hard to find but can be accessed either by going down the stairs at 51st Street and Beekman Place or through the gate at the end of 49th Street. Unfortunately can be a bit noisy with the FDR right next to it, but it's never too crowded and there are plenty of benches to sit on. As an FYI, lots of people let their dogs run off leash outside the actual dog run, but it's not technically allowed and I wouldn't recommend it given the location (near FDR...) Also, there's no separate area for small dogs, but I haven't had any issues bringing my chihuahuas here. read more

Like it alot!!! Probably my favorite dog park so far around Midtown. I like that it is inside a very nice park. Lots of trees around. The dog run section of this dog is a L-shaped and bigger than most dog runs in the city. It has lots of bags, several poop scoopers and water. I took one star off because the owners who frequent this park are not as social as other parks. read more

When you first find out about this dog run, you think you've stumbled onto a little secluded gem. Mix of dirt and paved stone. Free poop bags. Communal drinking bowl. Con is that you're next to the FDR and the sound of passing cars is not pleasant. BEWARE: my dog would consistently get diarrhea after putting one of the many tennis balls that litter the park in her mouth. The park's dankness makes it a breeding ground for bacteria. I now take my pooch to an all concrete park a few blocks south. read more

It is a beautiful park, but very unfortunately, people who come to this park regularly are psychotic in very, very high rate. That includes people come with cute dogs. It is sad that this beautiful park has very dark irritant murky energy of exclusion, entitlement and tenseness. I wonder if that has to do with some feng shui element enclosed by stones walls that even block WiFi for the whole entire park plus right next to the dirty air and noise of FDR? Actually, I was warned from several people who have dogs when I first moved near this park, the "energy of people" are really atrocious and don't worth going there. I wish I have had listened to their word of caution. You may not realize or doesn't matter when you visit here once or twice a year, but for me it became palpably apparent a few months after I started to go. A lot of lonely cranky frustrated old crowd go there to do nothing during the day, but only to steam out often on younger happier people. High school kids also come here to do all sorts of bad stuff including vaping, weed, drinking and so on. Unless you are the type who like misery party and never-ending gossips, stay away by any means!! PS. I like 42nd park, also 57th's stunning open river view and 63rd park where so much nicer atmosphere and friendly people. read more

this dog park trail as i like to call is a good place to walk your dog without non dog walkers looking at you as you are scooping up dog poop . mr peters park is located on 51st st and beekman and if your doggie breaks off his leash then there is a good and last chance that he will reach the fdr drive south bound lane before he gets to doggie heaven (just kidding).the l shape dog path is big enough for plenty of dogs to walk around and you have benches to sit when you need a break. a water section for your mutt to drink along with free poop plastic bags and scoopers (i have my own ). on early mornings and on nice weather days especially on the weekend it gets crowded and if your dog is the type to go nuts when he or she sees other dogs then maybe a place with less canines might be better. be careful taking stairs to park during snow and rainy days cause it can be slippery .overall a nice dog park to take man's best friend. read more
