This was a great chill spot for a casual Friday night outing with great cocktails. My sister and I went because we wanted a fun social night out. The drink menu has good variety and fun cocktails. We enjoyed chatting with the staff about the drinks and learning how they came up with different recipes. I got the Manhattan which was delicious and the "Can We Interest you in an Egg in this Trying Lime". Both were very good. They had a live band which was nice to hang out and listen to. Another perk was the building had a large parking lot! Not something we expected heading into St. Paul. Have been a fan of 11 Wells ever since they paired up with Sweet Science ice cream to make some cocktail-inspired goodies (admittedly, over a decade ago). I remember back to when the distillery was basically a hallway with tanks. Anyway... When they opened a cocktail room (again, I know, way late on this review), it was pretty exciting for the East Side. The space itself is a little different, with a sitting space right where you walk in and the bar further in the back, but I suppose that is what happens when you are located in the remnants of a historic brewery. Bartenders are friendly. Biggest drawback here is they are a small, craft distillery, so you may not find the spirit you're looking for. But! Stopped in tonight. The friendly PJ and another gal were slanging drinks. It was Whiskey Wednesday so I went that route. I put the task on PJ to decide which whiskeys and go ahead put one on the rocks and the other neat. He gave me a Rye on the rocks and a Wheat neat. Both were as delicious as the company was delightful! I was surprised it was just another fella and myself in there for most of my visit @ roughly 5:30 on a Wednesday. Good to know for future stops! This is a great little hidden gem, tucked in off of Minnehaha. Turn @ the yellow BREWERY sign or you'll miss it. Parking is easy in the shared lot w the brewery. We've been to this spot's neighbor more times than I can count, and we finally decided to stop in to this distillery over the weekend! Such a cool vibe, passionate staff, and yummy cocktails. Can't wait to add this one to our regular rotation when we make the trek out to St. Paul! As you arrive, you walk into a big space with tables, and in our case, some live music. You have to walk through the main sitting room to find the bar, tucked in the back of the space. The bar wasn't too busy on a Saturday afternoon, so we were able to make some playful banter with the bartenders, got their recommendations, and ultimately gave them creative license to show us what they wanted! I ended up with an Old Fashioned, made with their in-home Rye Whiskey. Perfectly spirit-forward, with all the lovely joys of an Old Fashioned. Definitely one of the better ones I've had in St. Paul. Not sure it's a destination, but it's a solid little industrial micro distillery with some interesting products like a barrel aged gin and some good infusions (their allspice dram is my house mixer for tiki drinks). The cocktail menu is basically their spirits plus basic mixers, nothing fancy like other lounges. That's my one star off -- I always want it a little more fancy. It's also not much ambiance, eg not a good date night. I came here for my Minnesota Distillery Passport stamp, but probably won't be back till I need another stamp. Still, if you're in the neighborhood worth a stop! read more

We had a great Saturday afternoon of trying a couple cocktails off the menu. They are reasonably price, with a few that are less than $10. Sounds like they are switching to the Spring menu next week. My buddies and I joined a 40 person bus tour of St. Paul that went over the history of beer in St. Paul and one of the stops was the new distillery in the old Hamm's building where Flat Earth Brewing also resides. The owners came out and explained how they decided to start the business and the history of MN 13 corn, which was started by the U of M. They want to start a rise of MN 13 style White Whiskey. They gave us a sample of the white whisky. Super warming and tasty. They also gave us a sample of a mai tai made with the stuff as well. Great stuff! I really hope these guys succeed. They are opening up a tasting room in the old Hamm's blacksmith shop next to the distillery. It should be super cool! read more

My favorite distillery in the Twin Cities. Built on the owners' love of chemistry and whiskey. There are many varieties of whiskey to taste - and a tour of the distillery give you access to all. They have a tasting room and make all the spirits served there. My favorites include their Minnesota 13, a white whiskey made infamous during prohibition. Great Staff! Friendly and flexible, but the owner was rude! We rented for a private party, and the owner felt the need to stay and watch us. Felt very uncomfortable as he was just sitting by the couches, watching our party. We asked the staff about him, and agreed and had our backs. They went over and informed him it was a private party and we felt uncomfortable. He left us alone after that, but at the end, we found him later and thanked him for the venue and hospitality, but he did not acknowledge anything or say anything to us. I ordered a classic gin martini with a lemon twist. When it was served it was yellow. Very strange. Not sure if it was too much vermouth or what. It also tasted nothing like gin. No fresh herb taste I usually associate w gin. It tasted kinda like a whisky. Strange. I also saw a mouse scurrying about... I liked the building. It's in the old Hamm's brew. Very industrial unfinished looking which I enjoyed. I could have ignored that mouse- old building and no food served. But the gin was just so off. read more

My first experience in a distillery. I ordered a Manhattan, and my friend ordered half a dozen of their liquors. My #1 issue is... Who puts an olive in a Manhattan? As soon as I received my Manhattan I asked why there was an olive in it. "That's what the boss told us to do." Just an awful drink. Who has ever made a Manhattan and put an olive in it? I took a few sips of the liquors my friend ordered. They were all very raw, un-aged and virtually indistinguishable in taste. Maybe this is what a small batch distillery is. If so please disregard my review. If you are looking to order something and have it taste somewhat like the last time you ordered that thing... go elsewhere. read more

This review is of the Minnesota 13 Wiskey only, not the establishment at 704 Minnehaha Ave East. Going through the hype, the report that the two owners want to "bring back" a lost recipe for prohibition era corn whiskey is absolute nonsense. I was gifted a bottle of Minnesota 13. I had high hopes for something unique, and enjoyable. It's awful on ice, terrible as a mix. No wonder it went away after the return of legal consumption. Perhaps it's good as a fuel additive to keep your injectors clean. Short of that, I poured almost the entire bottle down the drain. Hope it doesn't hurt my pipes.... read more
