    Happy hour drinks... skip them

Our first time being here, kinda stumbled across it while driving past... sounded fun so thought why not! First steps in we were greeted by very enthusiastic pizza chefs.. so we thought we'd grab a table and order... that's when the mood changed, the woman that greeted us asked if we ordered a pizza, no we wanted to get a table she then said sit anywhere( the place was dead) except at the table we were going to sit at she was very RUDE. She basically told us to grab a table anywhere but then told us to sit someplace else! Turned out she was the bartender as well, brought us WARM water on a 90 degree afternoon, I had to ask for another menu and the whole while she had an attitude as if we weren't welcome! Then two other male employees started their shift Darrien was great - great personality & attentive! The woman started telling the two guys what to do ( in her loud rude tone) as she stood behind the bar... guess she likes to play " BOSS" wow!!! It's a redone old building couldn't really see anything from where we were told to sit! Would have been nice to hear more about the distillery but it was clearly not going to happen! It's dark with lots of neon lights.. Next time we will hit the brewery as that place way packed and it was clear why... service needs to improve with the bartender and the attitude needs to go! Drinks were ok, left 1/2 of mine as it wasn't what I thought when I read the ingredients... no one asked how we liked them!

I came here to meet with friends and let me tell you, this place was great! They are right next to lake monster brewing but they serve pizza and cocktails, I tried a few different cocktails from my friends and all were awesome!! Not too bad for less than 14 dollars each cocktail! Some were less than 10! Service was great! Very friendly and were very helpful at guiding me to my perfect cocktail!

If you are looking for some delicious drinks this is the place! We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and were welcomed with some very festive vibes! Staff greeted us as we found a comfy table for two. My husband ordered us drinks at the bar that were delivered to our table. They produce their own spirits and bitters and had lots of classic, signature drinks and some holiday themed ones as well. Prices were reasonable and the drinks were just the right amount of alcohol/mix ratio. There is also a pizza place sharing the space. Check their socials and website for fun events they host throughout the year.

Great service. Fun table right in front by door, ask for it if you have 6 to 10 people. The Black Manhattan was great.

King Coil Spirits is a fun spot for fantastic drinks! We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon anticipating a holiday market, but we had the date wrong, our bad. Decided to stay for a light lunch and drinks. They have a counter to order pizzas and apps before grabbing a table. You can also order food at the bar if you prefer. What's confusing is the menus aren't the same between the counter and the bar menu which is a bit confusing. We ordered the Caesar salad and meatballs for lunch. Both were very good. The drinks are really the standout here. Such a nice variety and delicious too! Ordered the pup-a mint (peppermint White Russian), with proceeds going to Underdog Rescue, yes please. Hubby ordered an NA pear mocktail; delicious and refreshing. Overall, we enjoy this place and the Roman style pizza is very good, tried it on a previous visit. This place needs a little bit of polish (eg, providing direction for newbies), don't hang the bar towels on a staircase behind the bar for drying. Would still recommend!!

We went to King Coil around 8:00pm on a Friday. To be honest, it was pretty dead. It was the two of us and maybe 6-10 other people. Perhaps their busy times are earlier or later than that? It is in the same space as OG Zaza pizza. We had already had dinner so I can't review that place. We sat at the bar, our server was very friendly and seemed to know a lot about the beverage offerings. It was fun to watch them make the drinks. They make their own spirits, and they are pretty good. I had an old fashioned which was good, not awesome, you could definitely taste the bourbon notes, overall a solid, good drink. My partner had a Point Panic, which was recommended by the bartender. It was good and fruity, refreshing. While we were deciding what to order we were quickly served a nice bottle of water. There is seating both inside and outside. The general vibe was mid-scale craft cocktail bar. There were lots of windows so it was nice and bright. It would be great for a date night. It was quiet, but again there weren't many people there. You can order by QR code, or in person. We were not rushed at all. Our two drinks came to around $30, which seems to be the going rate these days. It shares a parking lot with Lake Monster Brewing and it was pretty packed.

Ordered a drink using the QR code sticker that's on the table outside. Our drinks took 31 minutes to get to us when our drinks were delivered. I asked what took so long and the waitress said that the QR code should not be used right now because she's the only one there.

Peaty pouting style whiskey aka Irish Moonshine. Usually bottled unaged Peaty poitín-style whiskeys have a smoky flavor that comes from the compounds released by the peat fires used to dry the malted barley. Here's a useful Review King Coil Peaty Poitin Style Whiskey Review - The Clan Maccurve *I myself prefers aged whiskey. but this is different Trentaerbe Won gold medal It's 30 herbs complex rounded herbal bouquet *This one is pretty impressive with all the nice bouquet of smells and flavors probably good in anything. They have this in their "last word" instead of Chartreuse it's pretty good. The ambiance is more like a brewery. The foods are good! The service is amazing. They actually have some people from "19 bar" (minneapolis) that is temporaryly closed from fire. That was a nice surprise to see some familiar faces.

I randomly ended up here for a drink after work during happy hour. I sat outside because it was a beautiful day and ordered a Queen Coil- a gin sour with egg whites. I also tried the botanical flight- also gin. It was very refreshing and strong! King Coil is a distillery so everything is made in house which gives it a great touch. The service was great! My waiter was very attentive and answered all of my questions about the drinks. I will definitely be trying the pizza next time!

There is a new kitchen concept inside King Coil. Now, instead of a full menu, the kitchen is Og Zaza Pizza, which makes New Haven style pizzas. We ordered the family deal, which was great for 2 people and let us take home leftovers. The Cesar salad was simple but good. We also had the Truffle mushroom pizza and the chicken pizza (Fredo). The Fredo was absolutely delicious, the chicken and sauce and sweet peppers going well. The Truffle Shroom had good flavor, but needed more stuff on it, because it came out a little over-done and dry. New Haven style pizza just isn't my favorite. You also have to eat on paper plates with plastic silverware, even though you are sitting inside a nice distillery. You have a server for your drink order, but you have to go up and get your pizza order, and they didn't tell us via email when it was done. Our drinks were good, but I found the clash of the ambiance didn't work well for me. This is a great spot to order takeout from, or to eat while sitting outside at Lake Monster having a beer, but I didn't love doing dine-in with it.

I went to celebrate a birthday with some late-night cocktails on the second day they were open to the public. I had made a reservation for the "back-bar", which was a little quieter than the front space and they had a special menu for cocktails. My group tried a few different cocktails (I can't remember the names though) and grabbed a cheese plate. Cocktails were enjoyable. Only thing I didn't enjoy about the cheese plate were the grapes not being seedless, a warning on they so you don't nearly break a tooth. Our bartenders were all very personable and let us try a few different things as well to see what we liked. Biggest drawback of the night was the amount of time it took to tab out. We probably waited about 25 minutes after taking our last sips before being asked if we were ready to go. It is a new place, so maybe has some kinks to work out, but I think there us a lot of potential here.

Banana Rum Ramos Spanish Gin and Tonic

Probably one of my most anticipated openings of the Fall in the Cities, but in my opinion, it's a bit of a disappointment. I'd give it a few weeks to percolate before checking it out. The hostess was very flustered upon our arrival, yet the space was mostly empty. We waited 10-15 minutes to even have a server visit our table with water. When I asked about a few drinks, she kept saying it was "really tasty" without giving me any nuance about the actual recipe or drink profile. The space is fun and retro but a bit under decorated. We tried four drinks and we're disappointed in all four: the Spanish Style Gin and Tonic tasted like a salty lemonade, the Banana Rum Ramos had zero banana flavor, the Kiev Mule legitimately tastes like a tequila margarita, and the Mai Tai was bitter. All served with paper straws, which just cheapen the experience.

The location is convenient for people attending downtown events, although when events like that are going on and you just want to park somewhere and try their food, that parking can be challenging. Detroit-style pizza is unique. It comes in thick rectangular slabs, and the crust is unusually airy. They have interesting concoctions to try, incorporating different types of peppers as well as whipped honey and pineapple relish. For my first visit, I got a cacio e pepe pizza, which had actual noodles on it that were surprisingly cool. The second time I came, I had a single slice with pepperoni & sausage, and I can confirm that I really like their pizza. When it comes to pizza, my preference is normally for either Neopolitan or New York style, but these squares are tasty and satisfying to eat. I also got "Pizza Rowls", which I loved. With that entree, you get three long things that look like big egg rolls but are stuffed with tons of creamy cheese, sauce, and meat. It also comes with an arugula salad. It all tasted great. They have very friendly service, although I was forced to sit at the bar this last time because of the crowds. I don't like bar seating and in hindsight it seemed like I would have had a table if I'd just waited a few minutes instead of the half-hour I was told to expect. They're new at the moment so they might still be figuring out their flow; they have plenty of tables so you'll probably generally not have an issue there. They have a special Sunday brunch menu that is intriguing as well. You should totally try them out!

They make a wonderful butter crust deep dish pizza that is smothered in toppings. We decided to go simple - with pepperoni. The amount of pepperoni they put on this pizza was amazing! Let me back up though, we started with an order of cheesy garlic bread donuts. What could be wrong with that combination? They arrived and were the size of golf balls. So garlicky, so cheesy, so yummy! I will admit, it was a rather long wait for the pizza and I was starting to feel a little hangry but when it arrived, it was worth every minute of the wait. So delicious and filling . One piece was all any of us could eat. Was just as wonderful the second day. The inside of this place is charming. An old Mario video game kept our 7 year old entertained. They have outdoor and indoor seating, which is a big plus in the summer. Some of the reasons: why I am not giving it a 5/5. It's because we waited a close to 50 minutes for the pizza. And the pizza is definitely more on the pricey side, which I am okay with, but I think waiting that long for one is too much.
