Unbelievable. This place is truly magical. It has such a perfect mix of a relaxed, chill vibe while still feeling elevated enough to dress up and make a night out of it. The space itself is beautiful with a really cozy ambiance, and the patio is a great option when the weather is nice. The drinks are absolutely the star of the show. You can tell there is so much intention behind both the flavors and the presentation. The cocktail menu is super creative, and the Old Fashioned menu alone is phenomenal with so many unique options. The Beorn Old Fashioned was my favorite. We also tried the Payanello (pineapple, lime, ginger, pickled jalapeño) and it was incredible. Food was fantastic as well. The brussels sprouts were so good and a must order. Service was amazing. Our server was so kind, helpful, and gave great recommendations, which made the whole experience even better. It is on the pricier side, especially for drinks, but honestly worth it for the quality and experience. Reservations are easy to make and I would definitely recommend booking ahead. Parking was manageable when we went, but I could see it getting tricky during busier times. Overall, such a beautiful, thoughtfully done space with incredible drinks, great food, and top tier service. Visiting stops on the distillery passport and spent an afternoon at O'Shaughnessy. I had been here before for a couple of events, but never just a regular experience. Inside is beautiful, with leather and wood everywhere. It's a large space, but still feel cozy. Since they specialize in whiskey, that is the base for many cocktails; I actually think that 90% of the cocktail list is whiskey of some form. We also tried a spice bag, which was phenomenal! My favorites were the Gairan gear - a lavender/Ube flavored drink and the Glogi highball - hibiscus and sangria flavorings. For food we ordered the Irish space bag which had fries, curds, tenders, and other bits. The curry sauce was good but overall the fries needed more salt. The dining room is so nice, plenty of great seating, and the patio is large as well. The fish and chips were tasty, nice that they gave a gluten free batter, but not sure that's worth the cost. We also had the Brussel Sprouts, they were kind of mid to be honest, some were done, some still kind of raw. The sauce was tasty though, so that made up for it. Having seen videos online of Irish Spice Bags for so many years, I knew I had to go out to O'Shaughnessy to try it. A new menu addition, they have been advertising it heavily on their social media which was a great move because it worked on me. I hadn't been here in many years but this was enough to rope me in. We came with a big group of 8 on a Friday night at around 8 pm and were able to grab a nice fire pit in their outdoor area. The other guests were kind enough to let us borrow some chairs from their pits to accommodate our large group. Despite sitting outside, a waiter came over and offered us menus and to take our orders which was fantastic. All the staff were super kind and friendly. I know I should've gotten a drink, but whisky isn't my favorite so the only thing I ordered was the spice bag. It was rich, heavy, fried, and came with a big cup of curry. It was the perfect late night drunk meal to satisfy those cravings. It is by no means healthy, and I probably wouldn't get it again, but it was a really fun experience and very tasty. read more

Came here on a week night for a late night drink after having dinner at the nearby Market at Malcolm Yards. The place was closing in about 35-40 minutes, but they gladly took our drink order at the bar. I got the Kain Piller October speciality drink and it was delicious. I don't normally go for a cocktail that has a bunch of whipped cream at the top, but it was like a perfect dessert cocktail that was mixed very well. We made a reservation for 5:15 pm on a Friday. Their reservation system is very easy to navigate and I would encourage a reservation if you can make one ahead of time. The parking lot was half full, but overall easy to park on a night where the restaurant wasn't crazy busy. I could see the parking lot getting full and being a challenge to find a place to park with the neighborhood it's located in during busy times. Drinks: 5/5. I really think the drinks are the star of the show here. Some are on the pricey side (outside of happy hour expect $15-30), but in my opinion worth every penny. We tried 2 of the old fashions and a flight. The flights are micro pours, so don't expect more than a taste of each. Food: Ranges from 2/5 to 5/5. The fries and salad were 5/5. Flavors on point and would go back again for those. The lobster roll and the short ribs were 2/5. The lobster roll tasted like frozen lobster and lacked seasoning and overall flavor was very fishy. A bit disappointing at a $30 price point. The short ribs and mashed potatoes also lacked overall seasoning. Service: 4/5. Originally it took awhile for us to get our drinks, but service beyond that was seamless. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Ambiance: 5/5. This place is absolutely beautiful. I love O'Shaughnessy's. I'm not a huge whiskey person in general, but easy to get behind whiskey that has so much heart and thought put into it. I've been coming to O'Shaughnessy's for a few years, but recently went on a tour of the distillery and have so much more appreciation of whiskey in general and especially O'Shaughnessy whiskey. So impressed with the tour guides for having so much information memorized. I know I forgot more than half of the info by the time the tour was done. Still, so interesting to learn more about the process and how much work goes into each bottle. I love that O'Shaughnessy's is mixing Irish + American distilling processes. Very cool to learn about both, and how O'Shaughnessy's was combining the two. The drinks are so amazing and there's so much variety. My favorite right now is the Payanelo. Their punch is also always a favorite of mine. I also like their slushy drinks on super hot days. I haven't eaten here too much because of the prices, but have enjoyed the times that I have. The fries are to die for. They are so well seasoned and always crispy. Had the wild rice burger last time I went. Wanted more wild rice as I don't think I tasted it at all, but it was still very good. All the toppings worked so well together. The margarita flatbread was good, but nothing to write home about. The ambiance is nice. Very upscale lounge vibes. It can be hard to hear (especially when you're with people who have a harder time hearing). The seating options don't help with that. The tables are wide and most of the seating is around couches, so you aren't very close to the rest of your party. If you are worried about sound, I would recommend the little alcove to the left of the front doors or sitting outside. Service has always been great. Hosts, bartenders, and servers have all been stellar. However, one of the servers, Ellie, is really standout. She always gives the best service and recommendations. Super friendly and knowledgeable. Very fun place to visit. You definitely have to budget for it because prices are high, but makes going there more of a specialty event. read more

When I walked into this place. I thought "wow! This space is beautiful. " they have really cute sitting areas with nice comfy chairs and big booths for larger groups. It was just my husband and I so we grabbed a spot at the bar. and I'm happy we did. The mixologist at this spot were so friendly and it was very interesting to watch them whip up the cocktails. They mainly do whiskey drinks and I ordered the beorn old fashioned which was recommended to me by the man at the bar and it was fabulous.im not a big old fashioned girly but it was a the perfect mixture of whiskey and sweetness. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because our tab was $35 for 2 cocktails so it is on the more pricey side. But. This is always such a nice place. Unfortunately for this visit it was quite nice enough to stay outside so we moved inside but staff was accommodating with our move. I love that you can get most of their cocktails as NA even though they are still quite pricey. I also got steak bites and fries. I've had the steak bites before but they must have changed them as these were quite salty, even for me as someone who loves salt. On a trip to town my friends suggested we check this spot out. We met for an early dinner and I was super impressed with the vibes this newer distillery presented. The industrial vibes, and darker interior was complimented by the high tops and bar. The bar back was hidden behind doors which was a really cool way to keep a clean/crisp front to the entire bar. We each grabbed a cocktail and most of us got the lobster roll along with some fries...and it was FANTASTIC. It might actually have been better than the drink. Or I may have been really hungry. This cool distillery is located right next to Surly brewery. I have been wanting to come see this place and never knew it was next door. Fancy looking dining room, when we walked in you'll see the first door which leads to the store and tour. You must sign up for the tour in advance, no promises they will have extra space. Large parking space to park, I've heard they do get pretty busy and might have to park on the street meters. We ordered the signature cocktails to try with a few appetizers. The Irish spice bag was good, mixture of cheese curds, fries, chicken tenders, chilli, scallions, and spices. Service was great, my server checked on us quite often. Assured us the table will still be ours if we were to go into the store or check out the property. There is upstairs available if the first floor is full. We ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and they were some of the best I'd ever had. We also shared the fish and chips and grilled cheese and they were delicious. While in town, my coworker saw that this was a distillery and wanted to stop by. We initially were seated at a section that had 2 couches and a coffee table in the front of the building. There were six of us, so it would have been very uncomfortable to try to eat and have drinks at a section like this. I believe our waiter saw our disappointment, and decided to move us upstairs. However, once we moved upstairs, we noticed that the service was very slow. For the six of us, he brought one bottle of water, which we devoured in the first 5 minutes. We asked for more water, which took longer than expected but nonetheless, he refilled that same bottle. We ended up having to tell the waiter to bring 2 bottles so we wouldn't run out so quickly. I ended up ordering the smoked chicken dish (sorry can't remember the name) which came with cornbread, sausage, and greens. The dish itself was just "ok." The chicken was a little more on the dry side for it to be smoked. Also for the price of this dish, I wasn't throughly impressed. Lastly, with the not so good/very slow service, I wouldn't be in a "rush" to come back and visit. read more

I'll preface this by saying I'm a 100% American Whiskey girl. I've always preferred the flavor over Irish. I drink a lot of whiskey and I've been to a lot of distilleries. I've come here a few times with friends for drinks and a tour, but never food so this is not a complete review. The ambience is classy in an old warehouse with a big parking lot in Saint Paul. The behind-the-scenes distilling rooms were immaculately clean and the copper stills are a sight to behold! The tour guide was great & thorough, and the service is always pleasant. I appreciate their innovation and trying to bring a unique product to market. My friends love the place and their food. I haven't been swayed by the Irish American blend, but it's definitely an experience to try out and decide for yourself! read more

On the 19th I was meeting friends up for a birthday; I said I would head over early to make sure we could get a table for eight. At about 4:30 I told the host there would be a party of eight at 5:30 and asked if she could accommodate? She said there was not any room but about then is when they would open the Potato Bar upstairs which is first come first serve so she may be able to put us all in there. As I waited for my friends to arrive I browsed the gift shop and make chatter w the employee about the tour I had been on a few years prior and the delicious tasting our group was treated to. Eventually I took a seat in the entryway to wait for my party. The gift shop employee exited the store towards the host stand stopping to tell me he would make sure they could accommodate our party! Oh.....ok...delightful! When everyone arrived the hostess informed us downstairs was indeed full so the Potato Bar was only option. Which really turned out for the better as we were able to have conversation and not feel like we were taking up a able they would want to turn. We had a couple rounds of drinks and would pass them all around so everyone could try them. I asked our server what she preferred? She liked sweet, so on her recommendation I didn't opt for my standard Old Fashioned but the Apple Old Fashioned, it was delicious! We also all had dinner and it was so delicious! I've been wanting to dine at O'Shaughnessy for a while, decided to celebrate Galentine's day there. It was snowing, but the staff was out shoveling which was nice. The distillery is beautiful. Large windows, views of the stills and barrels with dim lighting. Our reservations were at 7:30, we were seated right away at a small table near the window. Because it was our first time they brought out tastings of the house whiskey and bourbon. The bourbon was young, but not bad. We had the Brussels sprouts to start. They were excellent. But that's where the good dining ends. I ordered the fish and chips, the first round was ice cold and soggy. My sister had the vegetable sandwich, which was okay but bland. Big screen TV was playing the gophers / Michigan game. We got seated and got waters right away. The server was very helpful with questions we had and provided useful recommendations. They are known for their whiskey so I ordered a whiskey flight and the wife ordered a cocktail. We also ordered some food. Didn't feel like full entrees so ordered a couple of appetizers and a flatbread. BOURBON & HONEY-GLAZED STEAK TIPS - These were tender and the bourbon / honey sauce was very tasty and flavorful. Really good accompaniment to the whiskey. CAPRESE BRUSCHETTA - One of the best bruschetta we have had in the cities. The pistachio pesto with the balsamic glaze and the burrata and perfectly toasted bread had a great mix of textures and flavors. The creaminess from the burrata mixed with the tanginess of the glaze and tomatoes and freshness of the pesto all blended together for a delicious bite. MARGHERITA FLATBREAD - A good flatbread. I have been going to O'Shaughnessy since it opened. It was too convenient not to try, located as it is next door to Surly Brewing and a short walk from Malcolm Yards (it's especially dangerous now that they have opened a path directly between the Surly yard an the O'Shaughnessy patio). I have been to O'Shaughnessy for trivia, for Derby parties, for birthday parties, for dinner and for whiskey tastings, and none of them disappointed. I am not a whiskey drinker, but the tasting experience was awesome and out guide very friendly and knowledgeable. The whole ambiance of the tasting room was fantastic- you think you are entering some sort of castle basement, but with more comfortable furniture and better lighting. The food has always been great. "Small plates" is misleading, as it is very easy to make a complete dinner out of the Caramelized Onion Dip, Smoked Whitefish Spread, fries, and Scotch Egg. Oh, but then there are the handhelds! (Lobster Roll, yum) And the mains! And bring back the lobster mac! Don't even get me started on the desserts. I have never had a bad plate of food there. And the cocktail menu not only changes regularly, but it can be different depending on whether you are sitting upstairs at potato bar, in the main dining room, or on the patio near the drink truck. My only complaint is that sometimes I fall in love with a cocktail, and then come back and it's not on the menu anymore (Fujinobu, rosemary gin cocktail, RIP), but the upside is that I always get to try something different, rather than ordering the same favorite every time because it's just too good. Highly recommend for both food and drink, or as part of an all-day excursion to the area. read more

I can't say enough about our evening at O'Shaughnessy. We sort of did the "whole package," meaning we took a tour of the distillery, we participated in a tasting, we had drinks, and then we had dinner. All of those experiences were amazing. I'll start with the tour. While I've been on numerous brewery and winery tours, I've never toured a distillery. This tour was excellent; not only was the tour guide knowledgable and personable, but he obviously is very passionate about distilling and it showed in the quality of his presentation. The tasting was also extremely well done, and while you will taste spirits from other distilleries (since this place is so new that their first batch has not finished aging yet), we really enjoyed that part too. I can only hope all distillery tours are this good. As part of your tour, you will have the opportunity to buy a voucher for an old fashioned cocktail and a food menu item for a very discounted rate. I would *highly recommend* you do this unless you just don't drink at all. Dinner was phenomenal. The menu is sort of a smattering of different items, but everything pairs well with whiskey/bourbon. The cauliflower is a must-try; this dish was perfectly cooked and spiced (it's a bit on the hot side). The BBQ sandwich was also good, and while I usually don't eat or like dairy-heavy dishes, the bruschetta was just light enough for me to enjoy it. Drinks were great too. I liked my old fashioned, and my wife had a non-alcoholic cocktail she liked too. Service was knowledgable and the perfect amount of attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Went to O'Shaughnessy for the first time to check out their decent happy hour. Very trendy space that gives off a "high back chair, cigar, and snifter of whiskey in the study " vibe. Service seems intentionally slower than most places to let you sip your drink and kill time. The clientele is a mix of leather arm patches, vineyard vines, and sales folks winning and dining. Got 2 of their old fashioneds for happy hour at $9/each and they're pretty good. Not too sweet and spirit forward. Started with the $10 mini "nordi board". Basically a lox board with some of the sharpest mustard I've had in a long time. The zucchini flat bread was pretty good. It's actually a flat bread and not just an oval shaped pizza like some places. The bread itself is like a pie crust, there's no sauce, and it's pretty bland when you don't get the cheese in a bite. The roasted cauliflower was good and rich. Perfectly cooked and fork tender the whole way through. The chermoula was good; not spicy at all and crazy rich from a lot of oil. The pickled raisins added a nice hit of sweetness to go with the salty capers and fatty relish. Overall it's pretty good but I might head next door to Surly's restaurant for food instead if I'm going here again. read more

My boyfriend (not from MN) said that the Keeper's Heart whiskey is the best whiskey he's ever had; I'm not much of a whiskey on the rocks person myself, but I have to trust his judgement. They do have mean whiskey based cocktails too. We also love the food and have gotten the same thing both times we've been here: steak tips, fries and brussel sprouts.
