The best music venue in Morgantown, always a good time. Drinks are reasonably priced, small place with a big presence

Morgantown's hot spot for alternative music since the early 1980s, 123 Pleasant Street has everything you need for a night out on the wild side: music variety, beers of all ilks, plenty of mixed drinks, groovy decor, ample seating, space to hang close to (or not) the speakers, a pool table, good eats across the street, and no gambling machines. The bartenders are long-time fixtures. They may not flirt with you, but they'll pour you an ample drink. It's a $10 minimum to put your alcohol on a credit card. 123 Pleasant Street offers just about every type of non-symphonic music you can think of by bands on local, regional, and national tour. Ticket prices are decent. It's also "All Kinds Welcome Here." Doesn't matter if you're brown, black, white, red, yellow, gold, male, female, queer, straight, punk rocker, hip-hopster, or reggae lover. I've never had a problem here, and I've asked around plenty and heard none from others. Some shows are 21 and up, some 18 and up, some all ages: check the flier. They generally start 30-60 minutes past the advertised time, so don't arrive early. But if you like the not-Top-40 scene, arrive nonetheless. This is the place for you. read more

I've been to hundreds of concerts across the country and I'm attempting to write a review of every venue to assist my concert going troubadours. Tyler Childers May 31, 2018 It's a place that thinks by just having a stage and some sound equipment they can call themselves a music venue. However, they haven't put much thought into the logistics of running concert site. The venue is three separate spaces (maybe at one time belonging to three different businesses). The concert space is in the middle of two bar rooms bridged by stairs. I believe this was the venues first sold out show and I expected it to be oversold. But, I did not expect it to be so damn hot. I landscape for a living and I'm used to muggy 92 degree days. This was unbearable. All three acts made mention of the temperature and my partner took off his t-shirt under his button down and tossed it away to try and stay cool. The heat made people miserable. A portly fellow took issue with me raising my hand in appreciation after each song (I do this instead of clapping cause I always have a drink in my hand). I was miserable too and before this confrontation got physical, we tried to leave the floor. But, because it was unbearably hot in the music room, everyone was hanging out on the steps trying to catch the cool air from the bars. I can not believe the venue didn't have staff placed at each stair case preventing people from camping out on them. That's on the venue. Between it being a sauna in the music room and being unable to enter the bars, we left before the end of the show. The music, the bar, the patrons, the drinks - all pretty unpredictable. And yet, for its sometimes on, sometimes off personality, I can't help but like 123 Pleasant. As other reviewers have said, it's one of the best, if not the best, music venue in Morgantown. The division between bar and stage is nice so that if you need a break from the speakers and dancing drunk girls, you can grab a seat at one of the booths off the main room. Depending on the band and depending on the tenor of the evening, you might love or hate 123 Pleasant Street. My advice is to enter with an open mind and a lot of patience. People will push you to the side, dance up in your business, and invade all kinds of personal space if you're catching a show - but that's part of the experience and can easily be remedied with a patient spirit. At the same time, stand your ground or you'll get pushed around and find yourself feeling lost. We caught the Qiet show in Morgantown on Friday, January 24. It was the perfect summary of the local music scene as well as 123 Pleasant itself. There was indiscriminate smoking in all corners of the bar, alcohol covering every square inch of the bartops, busy servers carrying glasses through the crowd, and a band playing some very eclectic, loud, and energetic tunes. People danced, people bashed heads, people had a good time. And you will too, if you know what you're getting yourself into. read more

Been a favorite place for years to see live music. From local bands to the occasional bigger name this place is a gem. There's two bars and is usually accessible for getting drinks easily. Very open and easygoing vibe. Spacious stage area with lots of room for dancing, and people usually do. read more

Ah the Nyabingy. AKA The Underground Railroad. AKA 123 Pleasant St. Nothing like going with the street address when you have given up on naming a venue. Anyways it is a fun small venue with two bar areas flanking the main stage area. All of the staff are friendly & the drinks are not watered down like all the other clubs in Mo-town. You have to give them props for being the only venue in the area to really support the local scene and lesser known bands. I love dropping in here when I am in the area. read more

Love Love Love this place! The live shows are always amazing, and great prices on thier drinks make it a bonus! This place is big city live dive club in little 'ol Motown. Don't miss out. PS. Offset plays here often...be sure to check 'em out if you like the heavier side of rock. They are a great local band, who I have a feeling won't be local much longer! read more

A good place to see music and hang out. A really laid back vibe in this place. The drinks are cheap and the selection is decent. The bartenders were a bit weird though...not very attentive and it really wasn't that busy when we went. They seemed to not really give a shit about any of the customers in there. The sounds was ok. Not great. It was nice to have seating options in the stage area. Sometimes you don't want to stand the whole time while watching a band. Sometimes you just wanna kick back with a beer and a smoke and enjoy the scene. It does get smokey in there so beware of that if that is something you're concerned about. I think I would have only given it three stars if there were any better places to see decent live music in town but there isn't so it gets four. Check this place out for a good time. read more

The best music venue in Morgantown with a variety of local and national acts. They are also known to have art shows. The bar is nice and there are plenty of places to sit in the room next to the stage. Can't recommend this place more. read more

Saw Hank III there in June 2014. I like the main concert area flanked by two separate (but in ear-shot and partial stage view) full-serve bar-rooms. The beer is cheap and plentiful...many varieties. Best part for me was the Staff - in particular, Lyndsey, behind the bar, was welcoming, friendly and quick And one of the security guys, Jeff, was terrific; gregarious and extremely helpful...especially to a newbie, like myself. I love, love LOVE 123 Pleasant Street. I've been there for live music, and the sound is superb, the cheap beer actually cheap, and the clientele amusing. I've been there just cuz, with someone who had never been below the Mason-Dixon line before, and he was thrilled with the amount of beer to choose from, the affordable whisky, exciting jukebox options, and pool. In fact, we had so much Anchor Steam and Rogue, that walking back up the hill afterwards was an adventure in and of itself. This is the best place to get drunk in a bar in Morgantown. A++, 123. They do not sell the normal beer... this place is not of the normal. It can have punk shows one night and a poetry slam the other. Plus it is right across from Black Bear. Only downside is it gets extremely hot. I would say for a new age date you hit this up and black bear. read more

The location, the building, the history are all great. The space, the sound is always pretty decent and sometimes awesome! The staff are always top notch! The owner who I have met a couple times is a very cool fellow. Now as far as the current promoter they have "promoting" and booking the joint I have to say they could do better. I'm from Jersey and I'm spoiled by the great venues in Philly. That being said I've been here the last three nights. Saw some pretty good local acts, and chilled out. Great beer selection, and if you're looking for Bud and Coors, don't come here. read more

I arrived before music band begun, and I didn't know bartenders still didn't arrive. I was okay that the band hasn't started yet, because I would set and drink until music starts. But the door woman took my $5 entry, and only after that told me that the bartenders have not arrived yet. Like what am I supposed to do there when I can't even at least drink? I decided to spend the rest of my money else where and then get back to enjoy music. read more
