Our family stopped by to have a bite to eat after our grocery shopping. 1298 Sushi offers popular menu items. It's tucked away in a small plaza on Liverpool and Kingston Road. All the usual stuff on their ayce menus. Sushi rolls, hand rolls, hot foods, pad thai, udon, tempura, teriyaki, deep fried foods, soups, salads, and desserts. It's an iPad order system that lets you see pictures of the menu item before you order it. Service was fast. They cleared the tables quickly. This spot still holds strong being our favourite spot for sushi around the area, as previous bad/mediocre experiences at 3 other locations just didn't justify any change. We've been buying takeout more often, so we can stay home and eat in a relaxed setting after a long day/week at work. The most recent time, I noticed the sui mai was not as good as usual. We've had 2 take outs from here for sushi and sashimi and our experiences have been mixed. The first time was just for salmon sashimi and the quality of what we received was excellent. Our second take out was for a sushi & sashimi tray (56 pc?) and it was rather disappointing on quality and variety of fish. There were fish that were cut so small that it really shouldn't be counted as 1 piece and the platter included ridiculous amount of fake crab meat sushi and sashimi. Not sure if I would pay $70+ to order this platter again. We may give them another try but in a sea of mediocre "sushi" restaurants, not sure if I would go out of my way to 1298. read more

Nothing much to choose from when it comes to sashimi. The hand rolls are not that great, rice is falling apart and does not have taste (spicy salmon hand roll). We ordered the first round, service is okay. Then waited for a long time on the second round.... Dessert is ok but I don't think I would recommend anyone for this place. This place is great! I've driven passed here so many times, and finally decided to try it out. The decor is modern but cozy, and the staff are helpful and friendly. Like many other AYCE Sushi restaurants, they have an iPad ordering system. They have a great selection of rolls, many of which you can get with brown rice instead of white. I also really loved that they had more vegetarian options than most places. One of the best things, about this place is that their pricing is not only fair, but also consistent across the weekdays and weekends. ( $16.99 for a weekend AYCE lunch? sign me up! ) I'll definitely be coming back here more often! read more

I've only had take out from here, but so far they haven't let me down! Food is tasty, I've never been disappointed. Their takeout service is quick, as I normally order party trays for the family. Their cooked sides are average, but the sushi has always been fresh. The restaurant is also provided plenty of wasabi, soy and cutlery for take out orders. I will be ordering from here again. Good all-you-can-eat food and staff except otherwise for the manager (or team-leader since he said he wasn't the manager). They have a promo stamp card where you get a free dinner for every 15 stamps you collect (oh and they separate lunch stamps from dinner stamps). You're supposed to get one stamp for every bill, but since we were in a large group with 3 separate bills he stated that we would only get one stamp for the whole "group", which contradicted with all the previous times we had been there. He actually said if we were seated in separate tables and pretended not to know each other we would actually get 3 stamps... Extremely rude and 0 manners with the customer. TLDR: Good food, bad customer service from lead server, make sure to get your card stamped for every separate bill. read more

This is a pretty good ayce sushi place that is decently priced for $26.99 dinner. They offer over 100 items and I believe they have some Dim sum items as well. Our party ordered a variety of sushi, rolls and sashimi. I really enjoyed their house roll which was a California roll with torched white tuna on top. They also offer torched sushi, ponzu marinated sashimi and a variety of sashimi. I really enjoyed their fried calamari dish and their ponzu marinated sashimi. My sister and I come here probably once every month/two months. We started coming here instead of Makimono in Pickering, due to the price and service. Their staff are friendly, and get you what you need, but I do find that over time, with each time we come back to this restaurant, they tend to leave out an item or two. Even though we order through the iPad, it still doesn't get delivered to our table somehow? I'm not too sure. I was so excited to return to 1298 Sushi today. I love their Sushi, one of the best in the Durham region. I was more then happy to order my food ahead of time on Uber Eats. I was in the area and chose to save my self the few dollars on the delivery fee. When I arrived at the establishment I proceeded to announce my order number along with show the order screen. The person grabbed my order and as I reached for my food I shockingly noticed I was reaching for a point of sales machine. I mistakenly assumed there was a payment issue with my Uber order so I gladly paid again. When I arrived at my house to enjoy some delicious sushi I realized I had payed twice. We came in with a group of 7 for lunch. We ordered appetizers with everything else (miso soup, rice, seaweed salad). They didn't give it to us. We asked about three times and they said "we'll check". Disappointing experience at 1298 Sushi. We usually go to a couple other sushi restaurants in the area but thought we would give this one a try. The interior was pleasing and and the booths were nice and cozy. Unfortunately the customer service was bad from the beginning. Our waitress ignored us as she approached our table, she barely made eye contact or address us directly. She just handed us a dirty iPad and took a quick drink order. Received our first order quickly which was nice. The food itself was ok for the price but not amazing, and most of it was either smothered in a sauce that was either bland or overly sweet. I also found the sushi rice too sweet as well. Unfortunate we weren't unable to finish some the rice from the roles due to the taste and were reprimanded for wasting food. That left us with not only a bad taste in our mouth for the sushi but the overall experience. There are much better sushi places in the area that provide way better food and much better service read more

Small sushi but good sushi rolls, good variety. Menu wide with lots of options but a little annoyed that my miso soup was the LAST food item that arrived and I had to ask for it. My fiancé was craving sushi so we did a quick yelp search in the area and came across this place. We were both pleasantly surprised by the price and quality of the food. They have the same price all week, no difference on weekends which is awesome since most places charge more on weekends. The service was very quick, food was out within minutes of ordering and the food quality was really good! We ordered some rolls, grilled meats, appetizers and of course miso soup! My favourite was the volcano roll here, definitely a must try! If you're in the area definitely give this place a shot, the selection isn't as big as some other local spots but it's more than enough to fill you up and everything is delicious, especially for that price! The place had a nice vibe, appeared nice as we came in. We got excited with the large selection; however, If you are particular with your sushi then this place is not for you. The place was below average. General Tao chicken- too much vinegar. Shrimp tempura was cold. Maki- rice was hard and cold, seaweed was chewy Seaweed salad- too fishy and salty Rainbow roll - no flavour Caramel brûlée- the brown granular sugar on top wasn't melted and torched. This is the worst sushi place ever. Took my 10 year old here and she noticed that the food wasn't fresh. When I asked to speak to the manager the staff got mad. This is the worst sushi I have ever eaten. The rice portion was huge and the fish portions were paper thin. In order to taste the fish I had to remove 3/4 of the rice ball and wraps the thin sliver of fish around the remaining rice. Even then it was tasteless. I am very suspicious with the glowing reviews,and wonder if these people actually ate this sushi, since the reviews contain inaccurate information. I am from Japan, and I know what good sushi tastes like. Better choices would be Azumi Sushi or Sakura Sushi. read more
