    Mud Lake Bown growler.

Very friendly staff & outgoing gregarious brewmaster made for a pleasant visit the evening we hit them up just before closing time. We got some of their Mud Lake Brown, as it was the only dark'ish brew they had on hand. As someone whose libation du jour is porter or stout, this paucity of dark brews is notable. Nonetheless, the Mud Lake Brown proved to be a fine draft. It has plenty of roasty notes in its flavor profile & a slightly yeastier than expected front end. Body was light, so could make a pleasant all-afternoon sipper. I've had a taste of their limited run Thin Mints brew, which is their Mud Lake Brown doctored with the Thin Mints GS cookies. I've only two words on that selection: "Amazing!!!" and "Exquisite!". It's a shame the Thin Mints brew isn't a full time player on 14 Lakes' roster. Reports on their Peanut Butter Porter were also solidly in the positive realm. So this little gem of a craft brewery hidden away in the north woods is producing some mighty tasty alternatives to the commercial big boys' generic offerings. Check them out if you're in the area, but be aware their hours are somewhat limited.

Beer: My boyfriend had the By The Bay IPA, which is a solid IPA that is moderately hoppy with a slight citrus taste. He described it as well rounded: bold, but drinkable. He definitely enjoyed it. I had a Mango Rush - a blonde ale a that definitely tastes more blonde than sour but still has a slight pucker to it that makes it very interesting. One of my favorites when we come here! We both shared the Piglick Peanutbutter porter and it was excellent. Strong peanut butter taste with a dark chocolate finish. Really excellent, heavy beer. Venue: Allows dogs - huge plus! Good space inside with an outdoor covered space with 3+ fire pits. Not hard to find a place to sit in the fall/spring but can get packed in the summer. In the summer they offer corn hole and various yard games. Extras - this place has snacks, which can be hard to find in a brewery. They have flavored pretzels, meat sticks, cheese, and chips. Plus non-alcoholic drink options. It all makes for a really great variety and good hang out spot.

Average beers at best- the flavor profiles are very close to each other very much resemble pale ale to pale ale ish beers. Friendly staff and easy to walk to if you are staying in Crosslake. Hometown feel with locals to chat with. Out door space was perfect for sitting by their fire pit and chatting.
