We went to Davam urgency care Thursday night, but the pain was getting more severe and lower in his jaw. Saturday, 8:30 AM Dr. Cope, our regular dentist, was out of town. His wonderful tech Chelsea was able to coach us. Saturday, 3:30 PM Luckily we found Doctor Okwen at 1488 Dental! He is an endodontist and micro surgeon that was generous with his time and compassionate enough to work on Saturday at 4 pm! He charged a fair price. He was able to extract 17 & 18! read more

I had a emergency and the doctor was awesome and opened the clinic Sunday just for me.

My husband had a toothache and needed to get in with someone that had an opening and took our insurance. The one I use was already closed and wasn't going to be open the next day, so we went to 1488 Dental. The lady up front was very friendly and sympathetic and the lady dentists was very caring. She could see my husband was in a lot of pain. Well the owner wanted to do a root canal and charge $1800 with insurance. I could not understand how it could cost that much. Obviously we said no. We don't have that kind of money and they won't let you pay it out...not that we would have paid that much. I knew we were being over charged. They did give him antibiotics for the infection. The next morning I started calling around and found another dentist that took our insurance and it would only cost $600 abs they were nice enough to let up pay it out. They understand times are tough for everyone right now. I don't understand how 2 dentist within 8 miles of each other can charge such a large difference. I would say check other dentist out before going to 1488 Dental. He is price gouging. I know insurance companies only allow reasonable and customary for demographic areas. So I guess since you are paying upfront they are pocketing the rest. read more

I had an emergency procedure here. I would recommend this place to anyone who has a dental emergency or needs a root canal. The doctor is professional and knowledgeable. The assistant was helpful and kind. The only thing I would say is go in the morning if you can because there are only two people working there. What's different about this place is the phone number to reach the doctor must be forwarded to his cell because he answered late at night and early morning. He was very responsive and I am so grateful for him because I was in so much pain and he fixed the issue on Christmas Eve. What made me feel comfortable was the patient next to me said to the doctor, "you're the only person I trust to do this. Very Disappointed, this Dr views other patient's visits and comes up with an amount he charges patient's even after they have verified insurance and filed the claim! I was over charged $315.50. The day I received my claim review I started calling his office to get my refund, once I got a call to come in the office, he greeted my by saying he was a christian then told me my review wasca lie" very christian behavior " then he wanted to argue and say " Not everything s about money" thats funny coming from the person over charging his patients!! read more

I visited Dr. Mbachan Okwen at 1488 Dental on the evening of 12/08/2023 due to a lost crown on tooth 19. At this visit, he recommended a new crown be created but that a root canal was not necessary. I endured constant pain and sensitivity with the temporary crown for 5 weeks. I received the call that my permanent crown was ready on 12/21/2023. At this point, I had family travel and holiday plans then he had holiday or vacation plans and was unable to see me to set the permanent crown until 01/12/2024. When I visited 1488 Dental on 01/12/2024, I experienced severe pain and sensitivity when he removed the temporary crown. At that time, he indicated that a root canal might be needed. I did not feel at all comfortable about the possibility of him performing a root canal. Therefore, I requested to leave his practice with my permanent crown and that I would visit my family dentist for further treatment. I paid a total of $1428.00 for this emergency visit. My dental insurance will only cover $520.80 of that total. I subsequently visited my family dentist on 01/19/2024. My family dentist processed numerous x-rays and determined that I did, in fact, need a root canal on tooth 19. They also determined that the permanent crown that I left his practice with would not sit properly. Therefore, my family dentist had to perform a root canal and prepare a completely new permanent crown. At this point, my insurance will not cover another crown for tooth 19 and I had to pay an additional $933.70 out of pocket for this visit to my family dentist. I have requested a full refund of $907.20 (total charge of $1428.00 less $520.80 that my insurance covered for my visit to his practice). I communicated all the above details to Dr. Mbachan Okwen via email on 01/29/2024 and certified mail on 02/02/2024 and included all supporting documentation and photos and x-rays and have not received any response or refund. I would HIGHLY recommend to NEVER visit this dentist or practice. It's an absolute nightmare and in a horrible location right next to a bar and a massage business. Ive been here for 2 molar extractions and brought my wife for a tooth extraction and everytime its great, friendly care. Everytime ive called and said I need in as soon as possible and no matter what time I call they say they'll see me within 30 minutes. Anytime I gave a question I call and they answer and when I brought my wife in I asked him about some discomfort I was having, I was brought back to a room and he basically gave me a free exam (I dont have dental insurance). They also are willing to work with you so that you can get the help you need (within reason). They are extremely fair priced, for each of my molar extractions they charge me 4-500. This past Memorial Day weekend I had a severe toothache start on Thursday evening and got even worse on Friday. My friend told me about 1488 Dental being open 24/7 and after not hearing back from my own dentist I called. Dr. Okwen was available to accept me and even though I was scared, his demeanor and manner made me feel comfortable. I never felt a thing through the entire procedure (root canal) and was immediately better once he was through. I was visiting from out of town, and cracked a back tooth on chicken wings at Bdubs. Lucky for me 1488 dental was still open, they somehow managed to get me in, I had to fill out forms for insurance, but they were cool enough to numb me so the pain went away while filled out paperwork. My extreme tooth pain started on Memorial Day weekend, a terrible time to have unbearable tooth pain. I searched online for an emergency dental clinic and 1488 Dental had good reviews. I saw Dr. Okwen and he is Endodontic doctor so he was able to perform a root canal on my tooth on Memorial Day. I was so grateful my pain could be taken care of so quickly and not have to wait until my dentist on Tuesday then send to a specialist from there and having to be in pain much longer. I do not think I could have gone another night or day in pain and 1488 Dental was my answer to prayers. I really appreciate it. read more

Now for the review, I was an immense pain for two days, and the dentist was able to see me at 11 p.m. on a Saturday night and extract a tooth that has been agonizing me. They were so patient, and so willing to work with me. I haven't been to the dentist in quite a while, and didn't have one at all locally, until now. This place is a scam. Was up charged on X-rays for no good reason and was denied a filling only to have the dentist try to sell me on a crown. I highly recommend Dr. Okwen! I have an extreme irrational phobia of needles and like objects that tear skin. Typically I can go into full shock just discussing such things. I warned Dr. Okwen of this and he handled it awesomely! Only giving me the need to know info leading up to the procedure and avoiding talk of the items that would send me into a panic attack. His needle work when numbing is spot on! Didn't even feel a pinch, just got the heebie geebies due to my phobia. Dr. Okwen and his assistant only laid out the tools they knew I was comfortable with (such as forcepts) infront of my sight and kept all needles and such behind me and out of sight. He told me when to close my eyes to ensure I wouldn't see the things I didn't want to see, and I honestly couldn't tell you when he cut my gums he was so sneaky with it! Before I knew it both of my lower wisdom teeth were removed and I never felt a thing! Almost didn't believe it until I saw my teeth laying there! My experience at 1488 Dental was much less than perfect. I went there for a routine cleaning and checkup and they found some other work they had to do including fillings and gum cleaning which was fine. I did find the dentist to be nice, very patient and meticulous with his work. The downside of this practice is that it is run mostly like a one man show. The dentist, who is the owner, was also booking the appointments, going over the insurance and seemed to filing the claims. When I called them, I asked them if they accepted my insurance. They said they did, but never told me they were out of network until after my work was done and I had used up all my yearly dental insurance for the year. I do have very good dental insurance with decent yearly coverage. When I called to discuss the costs of the work and insurance coverage, the dentist discussed it with me for a little while but didn't have time to go over it fully since he obviously had patients to take care of. I asked for a call back to go over the details and he never called me back. If you are planning on using this dentist, I suggest you go over the total cost and your insurance coverage prior to starting and cleanings or treatment. 1488 Dental could use a receptionist, insurance claims handler in addition to the dentist / owner to do all the work. I was very disappointed with the service I received at 1488 Dental. The office is very disorganized. I called in for an appointment, I arrived 20 minutes early for the appointment. After being called back I sat in the chair for a long time. The dentist and his assistant would come in and out every so often and say this is what we need to do. I needed a root canal. I was told this will take between 1 to 2 hours. I was at this office for 5 hours. I was told come back so they could do an impression it should take about 30 minutes. I came back and sat another 2 hours. I was told don't eat rocks or bones that was it about how take care of a root canal!!!! I came home and had to read on the internet how to take care of it. I started having problems I called the office twice no one would answer. The third time I got a very hateful lady telling me I remember you. She wanted me to come in and sit again. I ended up going and getting care at an urgent care. I had to go back 2 weeks later for the crown. I had to wait off and on for 3 hours again for what should have been at the most 30 minute job! The dentist kept making excuses for the wait. I would recommend don't waste your money or time with this place. read more
