Everything tasted healthy and nutritious, and it all had so much flavor. The dan dan noodles didn't taste like any I've had in the past, so I'm not sure if it would be better with a different name, but the dish itself was great. I don't usually like fruit in salad, but the chickpea chaat was so good that I would get it again. Overall, a good meal and looking forward to trying more next time we're in the area.

The person at the counter was very pleasant. She acknowledged us and welcomed us in. My kiddo picked their Aging Backwards smoothie, but with almond milk instead of filtered water. The smoothie is pricey for the size but unsurprising, given the location. We paid and waited at their window seating. I was admiring the stone counter and beautiful plants in the window. When our order was ready, the woman at the counter (didn't catch her name) brought it to us, which I really appreciated. We were in and out in under ten minutes. I would definitely go back if in the area. We're usually around here for dinner. It's a very walkable area with metered parking, parks and playgrounds nearby.

I order a few items and was disappointed by all of them unfortunately. * Raw-violi (pickled and brined beet slices, cashew macadamia nut cheese, pesto, and saffron cream, 1 star off): the beet slices were too salty; the cashew macadamia nut cheese did not taste like cheese, but more like ground up nuts; I did like their saffron cream sauce...not sure how it went with the beets and nuts, but it tasted good on its own * Mackin cheese (elbow pasta with sweet potato truffle cream cheese, 1 star off): I could taste the sweet potato, but there was no truffle flavor * Mash-n-gravy (crusted tempeh, truffle mashed potatoes, kale, carrots, and gravy, 1 star off): I have had good tempeh before, but the tempeh here was a salty, compacted soybean; again, there was no truffle flavor in the mashed potatoes; the entire dish was a goopy mess * Bananarama (banana cake, blueberry compote, and mango-vanilla sauce, 1 star off): the cake was dry and tasted like a day or two old; I did like the mango-vanilla sauce though It is sad that the condiments or sauces used for the dishes were the best part of the meal. The absolute standouts, however, were the Dominican staples made vegan. The Mofonguitos were flavorful bites wrapped in crispy plantain deliciousness, and their Sancocho was a perfect soup: hearty with tons of root vegetables and a really deep, warm flavor profile. I'm already planning repeat orders of these on my next trip, and to try their rice and beans next. Also LOVED the tamarind juice (although I'll gladly consume anything with even a suggestion of tamarind, so take that as you will) Parking was sparse but doable, and there is a nice little sitting area inside with lovely service to boot. Definite visit if you're in the area, and even if you're not! There are few things that make the haul from Queens to the Bronx worth it, and this place is officially added to that list for me.

There were also several picnic benches around the side of the building, but I wasn't clear if they belonged to the restaurant. You order at the register and they call out your name when your food is ready. They have a ton of vegan/vegetarian options, as well as a great breakfast/brunch menu. I ordered the egg and cheese biscuit. The cheddar jalapeño biscuit was delicious. It was buttery and dense. The flavors were mild, but the sandwich was the perfect portion size. I also got a side of the vegan bacon. It was rubbery and tough to chew. Would not recommend. My husband enjoyed the breakfast burrito. We also shared the buffalo cauliflower. The cauliflower pieces were well coated in buffalo sauce and very flavorful. I also got the Don't Kale Me juice. It was tangy, citrusy, and refreshing. The Deep Roots smoothie was also quite tasty. They have free self-serve water and the employees were quick to wipe down tables so they were clean for the next party. Looking forward to coming again!

Going inside Grass Roots Kitchen was a breath of fresh air. The aesthetics put me in the mind of earth day and such beautiful paintings on the wall and flowers and greenery throughout. Grass Roots Kitchen offers have high tops dining as well as, regular dining, and outside dining. The dining area is pretty large, length wise and beautifully attractive. I ordered the egg and cheese biscuit with the help of the cashier, I didn't get her name and it's on the receipt but I threw it out. Even though this was not a vegan dish, who could pass on a collosal cheese biscuit. The egg was a nice accompaniment to this cheese biscuit also. The lady that gave me the biscuits said, wow! That smells nice. I thought she was giving me a compliment on the order until I sniffed the bag. Normally I don't do well with my sense of smell but, boy oh boy! That was a gooooooood smelling biscuit. And the taste, it tastes so good, it makes you want to slap yo momma. (Don't do it, it just makes you want to slap her.) Needless to say, I really enjoyed this cheese biscuit. In hindsight I guess I could have grabbed a hot drink, maybe next time, and there will be a next time because I told the lady that this was my first time and at the restuarant and I'm new in the area. She said she's looking forward to seeing me again. I'm looking forward to more eats and treats or treats and eats. Whatever it is, just ... Inspire more, Yelp more!

It was a risk, because you know how vegetarians can get about cheese (I'm vegan now. When I used to be vegetarian, I'd get annoyed if a meal didn't have cheese in it, or if it had vegan cheese. I've noticed that a lot of my currently vegetarian friends are the same.) , but I figured that he would be cool about it, because he knew that there wasn't much else in the area that I could eat that had a/c. I love my city, but the restaurants need to get their a/c game in order. This is a slightly elevated burger joint. The options are meant to be on the healthier side, so they do stuff like sweet potato fries or a side salad with the burgers instead of potato fries. Here's my tip: get the salad. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how much flavour they can pack into a small but mighty green salad with some dressing on the side. It'll mean that you can avoid eating sweet potatoes (unless you like sweet potato, in which case, you're at the right place). That said, the side salad was excellent. Crisp greens, and a few bonus veg, with a creamy tasting dressing. No complaints, 5 stars. My friend got the black bean burger, and I got the chickpea burger. We got the burgers exactly a said on the menu with no customisation. This was a very VERY good choice. The chefs at Brick City Vegan know what they're doing, and they absolutely season the heck out of the food. Everything tasted so good, and the table fell silent as we demolished the food in front of us in the cool a/c. There was a napkin dispenser on the table, which you will need, because the burgers are generously sauced, and a bit of a mess to eat. Who cares? The food is incredible, and just the right amount of filling. Both of us ate every last morsel, and left feeling satisfied. For both of our burgers, I think it was less than $30 grand total after taxes. Not the cheapest meal, but certainly not at all expensive by vegan standards.

Though not huge, their menu is plant based with an assortment of brunch/lunch items like bowls, salads and interesting sushi, as well as smoothies and other drinks. If you're open to vegan food and uncommon items in a western diet, you'll enjoy it. The pad thai slaw and sushirito were delicious and well made and everything on the menu was inviting. The teas were lovely and I really enjoyed being able to select a blend of herbs for my tea mug. There was some herbal water available, and a selection of desserts on the counter and in the fridge - chocolatey delights like "snickers" bars. We found a corner next to the stage with two armchairs and a coffee table which was the coziest corner to sit and chat. Though it was Friday afternoon at lunch time and there were several other small groups, it never felt crowded and we were able to stay for a few hours enjoying our tea and meal. Staff were very friendly and accommodating, and non-intrusive. You order at the counter and then sit down, and we were not disturbed at all besides our meal being brought to us when it was ready. Parking is limited but at least they have a lot. It's a short walk into the main part of the town. They also occasionally host events. Looking forward to returning!
