Thank you, Nikita! My husband and I worked at a couple of Michelin star restaurants when NOVELLE CUISINE was all the rage. It was an exercise and torture. I'm sure you've never heard of him because you're too young, but we worked for JAQUES MAXIMUM. A little Napoleon that could get the same results even better results without screaming constantly! Nothing like being the only woman in the kitchen and having a bunch of Frenchman, screaming obscene words at you in both English and French. Why I tolerated that I still don't know I really wanted to learn. I was on the line with Alfred Portale, and was his commis. He opened his extremely successful restaurant after Jacque decided he had had enough and went back to France. He came every two weeks straight from the airport and started screaming before he even saw anyone down the long hallway. I'm truly not kidding. Alfred warned me don't look the CHEF in the eye. I think that's the first thing he ever said to me. Then the Anita Hill hearings happens and the backlash was incredible. They would sexually harass me every day and then ask me was I going to sue them? I'm not a violent person, but I felt like taking a kitchen knife and never mind. This was my first job in a good Kitchen and the manager had cocaine running out of his nose when he was telling me that I was only worth three dollars an hour. I didn't go to some fantasy school. I went to the school of hard knocks. My husband and I spoke to Mark a very nice guy, at least to us. Most people don't want to get any feedback and that's a big mistake. We gave him. Our feedback thanked him and left it at that he thanked us as well. We really were restaurant consultants. It's so easy to see what's wrong in the kitchen and what's dangerous in the kitchen at first glance and then when you dig deeper, oh my gosh, it's a wonder we even eat out anymore. If people saw what went on behind the scenes, they would never ever eat out, but we know ROOT 2 RISE is not we repeat not like that. You also sell some great crackers. We can't find anywhere else. We kept the box it is called BETTER BUCKWHEAT. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS AND NOT TERRIBLY OVERPRICED. I think someone might be making mistake when stalking the shelves for crackers and other snacks. Two wonderful ladies were sitting right in front of where the snacks are and when they started looking, we found a few items that are not vegan at all. We don't know how to send this privately, otherwise we would. Phone is terribly compromised. We love your Restaurant and wanted to succeed more than you can believe. We both have been vegan since 1996. We were both vegetarians at about age 11. We really appreciate your great work. Sorry we are terrible at technology and also the phone. Smells and tastes like a pile of gym clothes. But that samosa bowl and soup? Incredible and cannot wait to get it again. I have an obsession with Root 2 Rise. I've had the pleasure of visiting twice for food, (I live about an hour away) and everything is so fresh and vibrant, healthful and delicious. It leaves me feeling energized and satisfied. I've also ordered breads from them which I freeze and use as I need. They freeze so well! As do the cookies! The choc chip cookies here blow my mind. And I feel good after I eat them! My favorite dishes are the yellow lentil soup, samosas, and buffalo tofu pizza. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Now onto the food... sigh... First, they gave me the wrong muffin. I ordered a double chocolate muffin, but I believe they instead gave me some kind of pumpkin apple muffin. I spent about 70+ dollars just so my partner and I can try several different items from the menu. Pumpkin Apple muffin - moist on the inside but dry on the outside. Very mild in flavor and sweetness. 3/5 Apple Cider Donut - also dry overall and very mild in sweetness and flavor 3/5 Chickpea Tuna Crostini - probably the best out of all of the items I got. I just wish there was more depth to the flavor. It needs more balance. The ingredients stated that there's nori but I felt like I just tasted salt 4/5 Black Daal - taste was good but overall flavor and spice were just mild and lacking compared to other black daals I've had. And the naan that it came with just looked like prepackaged flatbread from a fancy organic grocery store. 3/5 Mac & Cheese - literally probably one of the worst vegan Mac & cheeses I've ever had. There were literally big chunks of old bread that were supposed to be "breadcrumbs." Usually breadcrumbs are nice because it adds a nice crisp or crunch to the top of Mac and cheese, but this was soggy. The flavor was just off. They should just stop making this. 0/5 Falafel bowl - also very disappointing because it's one of the more expensive items. Falafels are big but size doesn't matter when quality is lacking. They were so dense and dry that we couldn't even eat them. I ate the rest of the bowl because I love veggies but it was basically just salad with a bunch of pickled veggies. I'd give it a 2/5 just because I ate the rest of the salad, but my partner would give it a 0/5. We expected a whole lot better for the price we paid, but it is what it is. read more

Such a great spot - everything is vegan and gluten free. A wide variety of foods-- sweet and savory. Indoor and outdoor seating. As well as some grab-and-go items, including candy, popcorn, and even jarred goods. They don't carry almond milk, so oat milk it is! Which is fine by me but I know some of my ibs besties may have issue with that. The bagel is crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside! What a treat to be able to order a bagel out. They don't skimp on the vegan cream cheese either, which makes it feel all the more authentic New York style! It gets quite slippery so I ended up eating mine open-faced. I went into Root2Rise today to check out the Vegan Menu. As a paying customer, I have the right to know what I'm about to consume. I asked the cashier if I could see the ingredients and explained I do not ingest anything with "Natural Flavors." I was trying to enlighten the cashier about what exactly "Natural Flavors" are. Then the girl who was to the left of the cashier blurts out arrogantly with attitude "I have my BS in Nutrition, different strokes for different folks." I was not speaking to her but with the cashier. The girl to the left appeared miserable, unpleasant, rude and didn't want to be bothered. As if she has some chip on her shoulder that has nothing to do with paying customers. I decided to walk out and not give them my money. Her attitude is a reflection of the business overall. I will not be retuning here. This isn't directed towards the cashier but whoever the girl was sitting on the left. The cashier was helpful. I won't be returning. For Super Bowl yesterday, we ordered the Vegan Nachos and Black Daal soup from Root2Rise in Pleasantville. Absolutely, amazing!!! We assembled it at home, so the chips were crispy. I have been addicted to the black daal when it hit the menu a few weeks ago. The homemade gluten free naan is insane. (been ordering it weekly!) I passed a major certification test for the ICU as a nurse, and my celebration meal was black daal with 2 chocolate chip cookies. The staff is so nice, and the energy is relaxing and positive in the store. It feels so good to eat so healthy. For the record, no one is vegan in our family of 5. I never write reviews but I have truly never been to a restaurant/cafe like Root 2 Rise. It's hard to believe that everything on the menu is plant-based, vegan, grain-free, dairy free! I ordered the DanDan Bowl for myself, my husband got the pizza and we got the grilled cheese for our 1 year old. We also couldn't resist the beety burger. They were so helpful in tailoring our orders so everything was perfect for us. Our son LOVED the grilled cheese so much that he inhaled the whole thing and started chowing down on the burger. The pizza was amazing and my nutrition-nut husband didn't feel guilty about eating it afterwards. It was like a "cheat meal" without any of the guilt! I ended up eating the burger with my son and saved the DanDan bowl for the next night's dinner and it was still so good. Tons of flavor and texture from the crunch of the peanuts. We drove all the way back from queens the following week and got bagels, scones and cookies. I felt good knowing I was giving our son food that was not only delicious but also good for him. That's worth every penny. I don't know what kind of magic is in their food and how they make it taste so good with such healthy ingredients, but RUN, don't walk, to try everything out for yourself. read more

I ordered the Mushroom Toast which is open-faced sourdough toast topped with sautéed mushrooms, sunflower cheese and caramelized onions, micro greens, house made herb oil, and chili flakes. It was absolutely delicious. I reluctantly shared one final bite with my friend and she also agreed that it was delicious. I also had a Ginger Cardamom Chai, which turned out to be unsweetened, which surprised me and was disappointing, as I didn't discovered the lack of sweetener until after I had left, and didn't have any sweetener to add to it. I also had a chocolate chip cookie, which had the perfect texture but was slightly too salty for my taste (though in fairness they do state it is topped with sea salt). We're fans! We came while in NY for the holidays with our non-vegan family with kids, and everyone loved their food! We had the panini, falafel wrap, Dan Dan peanut ramen, lasagna, and the truffle grilled cheese. The six year old loved the lasagna & ramen, and we finished up with some gluten free brownies, cookies, and hot chocolate (on account of the snow coming down outside). We are from Princeton, NJ, and we traveled nearby to go to a concert at the Caramoor Music Festival. On our way to our destination, we found this restaurant on Happy Cow. In the end, we ended up taking most of our meals here (three!), just because of the sheer quality and diversity of the offerings. This is an amazing vegan restaurant. It is vegan, local, gluten-free. Strongly recommend the paninis. I got the roasted vegetable one with the peashoot guac, my partner got the green pesto -- they each tasted like their own thing, but both were so divine they were eaten before I could take a photo. We ordered them again and again. But we also loved: The Kale-Caesar Salad, the lasagna, the grilled cheese sandwich, the fresh cut fruits. We can't wait to try more. On our third visit, we got to meet the owners. It turns out the founder, Jyoti Tewani, is this incredibly caring and thoughtful person, who had been in the kitchen for every one of our meals, and she vets every product carefully. For instance, she vets the product they sell off the shelves. She tastes every batch of juices that her staff makes. The restaurant is entirely run by family, each with their own purpose. (And the staff that isn't family is very sweet too!) We are looking forward to coming back on our next vacation in the area. Sometimes rather than going to many different restaurants, it's nice to find one good one and hit it up over and over again! This place is worth a detour on its own. Check it out! read more

Always a go-to for literally the best gluten free baguette, bread, scones, chocolate chip cookies and more. Their GF bread is light, fluffy, crusty but not hard, flavorful, which is hard to find. Most gluten-free bread so I've tried are so dense, heavy, it's like you eat a bag of nuts. Some processed ones are filled with sugars or almond flour. This tastes like...bread. And, not made of nuts!
