Delicious coffee and eats! I came here on a weekday morning to try some coffee and a little something to eat. Service was incredible: they were patient with me as I tried to decide on what to order, ultimately going with an iced latte, pao de queijo and a coxinha, in my broken Portuguese. The coxinha reminded me of croquetas in Florida, a fried ball filled with delicious chicken and cheese. The pao de queijo, also amazing, just reminded me that Brazilians have the best ideas when it comes to bread! I did not order a sweet, but they had some very appealing brigadeiros and passion fruit mousse. They have a small seating area inside and out front, on the sidewalk. The inside seating area is filled with products from Brazil, showing that Araras, like its name suggests, is coffee AND more. There are a variety of products, like snacks and cooking staples, as well as skin care products and some small kitchen necessities (like stove-top coffee makers), reminding me of the importance of places like Araras for Brazilians living in the community who want to feel a slice of home. read more

I stopped by to buy a few things that I enjoy. It was slow but suddenly the line after me became busy. I bought coixinha (chicken) and kibe (beef). I usually also buy some groceries. I am a little disappointed with the high prices, which is not surprising. I bought 3 items and the total was a little much for what I know these items cost. Everything and everywhere things are most costly and unfortunately I never know the prices as they don't provide receipts unless you request. Last time I asked I noticed that there was an extra charge. I am not sure if the charge is for paying with credit/debit card Honestly it's a nice cosy place, coffee and more to enjoy! So, this is a very cute Brazilian coffee shop with an adjoining mini mart. Visited here because I have an affinity for quaint shops and I needed caffeine. STAT. Stepped in and was impressed by the overwhelming coffee choices for such a small place. I ordered an iced pumpkin spiced cappuccino (because.... It's Fall, y'all!) and tried their cheese bread, which is exactly what it sounds like - melted cheese in a soft doughy round bread. The cappuccino had an authentic taste to it as it didn't automatically remind me of Starbucks or Dunkin whilst the shop had a nostalgic feel because a lot of their foods reminded me of my past Caribbean life. I would visit here again, if only to bring a book and sit outside while enjoying their coffee. A missed opportunity for sure, but I look forward to capitalizing on it next time. read more

On my continuing ethnic bakery quest, I found Araras on Yelp. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon with my in-laws. The store is modern and clean, with a nice case of choices. They also have a little shopping area with Brazilian delicacies next door. We had a chicken coxinha and beef rissole each while at the shop and touch a selection of desserts to go. The coxinha and rissoles were delicious, perfectly zesty with great texture. They came with dipping sauces that were a perfect spicy addition. We also grabbed 4 of the cheese breads to serve with our dinner. Those were also great! Perfect chew to the bread and some nice cheesiness. We saved the desserts for after dinner. We had brigaderos, alfajores, coconut cake, and a slice of dulce de leche cake. The dulce de leche cake was quite nice, moist with flavorful icing. The brigaderos were perfect chocolatey bites. Alfajores deserve their own paragraph. They are stunning!! The caramel filling is decadent. The thing I won't soon forget is how light yet rich the cookies are. They melted together with the filling for a cookie that's hard to beat. I'm also breaking out a paragraph for the coconut cake. It's a dessert that unravels in your brain a bit. You go in expecting one thing and get something a bit different. The texture is thicker than expected, the flavors are subtle and present themselves in pops, the level of sweetness is just right. Another really enjoyable bite. I look forward to trying more at Araras! read more

I stumbled upon this amazing cafe while looking for coffee on the drive home from a short stint in the Hudson Valley. To my absolute surprise it's a cafe full of authentic Brazilian food, snacks, coffee, and desserts. My husband is from Brazil so I surprised him by bringing him home some of the delicious treats and he was SO excited we went back the next day! I wish I had gotten her name, but the girl behind the counter made me a PERFECT latte, spoke fluent Portuguese (as I think most of the staff did), and was super helpful and sweet in helping me choose what to get. This is a true gem and even though it's over the bridge for us, we'll be back soon! read more

I had passed Araras many times and always heard good things about it, but it's a bit out of the way from my morning commute so I never found myself stopping here for some brew. That all changed though when I was feeling a bit of a thirst midday, and since it was a nice day out I decided to finally check out Araras. The menu has a number of creative coffee beverages, as well as smoothies, pastries, some savory dishes, and acai bowls. Araras specializes in Brazilian products, and a number of items pay homage to the cuisine and culture. I wasn't looking for much except it had to be cold, so I went with the iced cappuccino. The drink was pretty good - smooth, chill, and nice flavor. Overall, I was really impressed with Araras. White Plains sorely lacks independent coffee shops, so I'm glad this one exists. I look forward to my next trip to Araras for some more coffee and perhaps a little snack =) read more

I had walked by Araras Coffee & More many times in my way to buy flowers or go to the bank but I finally walked inside and was greeted so warmly that I looked behind me to see if they were actually greeting someone else! While their coffee shop seems very cramped, their selection of coffee drinks and smoothies is exceptional! And their Brazilian coffee is outstanding. Pocket-size Brazilian café, is located way past the bustling Mamaroneck strip. But it's nicely filled with Tropical touches and lots of specialty packaged goods, Breads- even Cheese. Alfajores in Chocolate and other flavors, are all displayed so cute on their see-through shelves. My visit was short- just coming in for a cup of Hot Chocolate but their Alfajores caught my attention and settled on one- to try out. For one, the lonely Caramel Alfajor I had, was freaking unreal. In all honesty, wanted to put that sucker right in my mouth- but forced myself to be lady-like. Anyhow... Hot Chocolate made fresh with 'dark' Cocoa powder, was spooned from a glass jar, into a steam milk machine. She added Whole Milk and steamed away, poured in a cup, pump of Whip Cream for 50¢ (really?) and a dash of the curliest Chocolate swirls on top...cute touch I thought. Good quality for their standards. Kudos to the ladies here for being Westchester's biggest coffee winner and pushing Araras to where it's at. But aside from their coffee and......Hot chocolate- my Caramel Alfajor swept me off my feet! And reason enough to return- for those! read more

This shop came up in my Yelp search and it had the best reviews so I gave it a whirl. The ladies behind the counter we're extremely friendly, even when I gave them my very complicated order. They also have an array of Brazilian/South American foods, which I loved (the Pão De Queijo & beef pastel were DELIGHTFUL)! TL;DR: A sweet little Brazilian Cafe that makes some great Cappuccino, Pao de Queijo, Coxinhas, Mini-Chicken Pies, and for dessert, Passionfruit-filled Chocolate Bon Bons. Up until recently, Latin American cuisine was not on my radar. To me, it was too meat-centric, too starchy, and too simple in flavor. Then I tried a Pastel, aka Brazilian Hot Pocket, for the first time. I was lucky enough to try it at Pastelaria Vitoria, in Somerville, just outside of Boston, where they deep-fry these delicious turnovers to order. Since then, I've been asking myself, "Self, just how many other tasty Latin American delights have you been missing out on?" And yes, I'm referring to food: Pao de Queijo, aka Cheese Puff: My first time trying one of these and I fell in love with its uniquely soft, chewy, intensely cheesy interior! If you care about such things, it's also apparently gluten-free. Fwiw, I heated this at home for a few minutes, wrapped in foil, in a 350 degree oven. I definitely think these are best enjoyed warm. Kibbeh, aka deep-fried, football-shaped Croquette made with ground beef and bulgur: I grew up eating the Middle Eastern rendition of these, often featuring lamb in the filling rather than ground beef. Was fascinated to discover Brazil has a version, thanks I think to some Lebanese influence in the country. The filling was lacking in the heady seasonings I'm used to, so this was just alright for me. Brioche-like baked Turnover filled with Ham: Wasn't a big fan, but can't pinpoint why... Maybe it was the Ham that was used... All I know is that I tried something similar at Teixeira Bakery in Newark, NJ and liked that much better... Coxinhas, aka Deep-Fried Potato Croquette filled with Chicken: Loved this! It was better than the one I tried at aforementioned Teixeira. Mini Chicken Pie: Another winner! Loved how pretty it looked when I cut it in two, with a single olive half in the center of each slice. Ground Beef-Stuffed Pastel: Apparently, they make a bunch of these in the morning and leave them in a warmer until they run out for the day. Needless to say, there's no way this even remotely compared with my fried-to-order gold standard.:( Now it's time for Dessert: Brigadeiro aka Truffle-like Bon Bons: I know there's a West Village bakeshop that makes these, so I was curious to try one. I don't know... I guess I was hoping for more of a chocolaty flavor, but it was more buttery and sweet, with faint hints of caramel. Later, I found out that condensed milk, butter, and cocoa are used to make the fudgy base for this treat. Not my thing, though for just $1 a pop, they're worth trying. Passionfruit-filled Chocolate-covered Bon Bon: Passionfruit is my kryptonite. I go weak at its mere mention. So I was a sucker for this one and only wish I'd gotten a bunch more. Mini Dulce de Leche-filled Pastry Horn: Sadly, the pastry was bland and dry. Caramel filling was good, though. And finally, some Coffee: Cappuccino: Like others have mentioned, coffee here is great! Space is small, with a total of 2 or 3 tables, and no restroom as far as I could tell. Service is very patient and kind. Bottom line: I didn't love everything I tried, but I loved enough. Am looking forward to returning to enjoy those things again and maybe discover some new favorites. read more

We ordered pao de queijo, açaí, coxinha, lattes, and a green juice. Everything tasted as it should and so delicious. The pao de queijo was soft and elastic on the inside with a nice crispy exterior. The coxinha with cheese was soft, perfectly seasoned. The coffee! The coffee was amazing. We ordered it with sugar and cinnamon and it seriously is delicious. You will fall in love. The açaí was generous, with fat, fresh strawberries and crispy granola. And all of that for under $39. We left very full and satisfied and can't wait to come back. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I got the flan, a ham and cheese baked empanada, and a large mocha for $10, which was a steal! The flan and empanada were huge and delicious. I cannot properly express my delight on both. I even sent my mom a picture of the flan and she was intensely jealous. As authentic as it gets- I want to say we were the only non-Brazilian guests in the cafe the morning of our visit. Food is breaded and fried. Coffee choices are simple and straight forward. I searched for a decent breakfast place in White Plains, and unfortunately, they do not have many that score high in the health department inspections and high customer reviews. This particular establishment does and exceeded my expectations. This Brazilian cafe has smoothies, coffees, acai bowls, sweets, Brazilian street foods such as chicken croquettes, empanadas, and many other delicious fried treats. The employees were accommodating and friendly, filled with smiles. They answered all my questions on items I was interested in, and I never felt rushed. The coffee was perfect, espresso with steamed milk and whipped cream. The food items were delicious and fresh, and I will most certainly be back.
