First visit to 18855, and we were thoroughly impressed. The drink selection was extensive and we enjoyed the margarita as well as the Flagship drink - I forget the name. Shelby was our server and she is a bright, positive spirited girl who made sure we felt at home. Food quality was excellent. Steak was tender, juicy and succulent. The shrimp was out of this world. I could drink the Carolina Gold BBQ with a straw! The only reason this place doesn't get a 5/5 from me, my steak was unfortunately served to me cold. Still delicious, but cold. 2nd time I've been to this restaurant. Both times my food order was poor. I like the atmosphere of the place. Lots of folks come to socialize and have a drink and if that's what you're going there for it's a good place but you might want to get something to eat somewhere else then come over. My Cuban sandwich was cold and dry. A food truck or Arby's is ten times better. Pay an upcharge for Rosemary fries and you get fries. Complain and you get a cup of dried rosemary. Really. I came for the chicken and waffles but ending up getting the Seared Scallops appetizer and Crab Cake Benny. The Scallops were delicious! Loved the orange liqueur! The plate was a little greasy though. I'm not sure what that's about it took away from the beautiful plating but not the taste. Scallops were seared to perfection with fresh black peppercorns. I enjoyed every bite. The crab cakes were a little overcooked but I loved the combination of crab cake, poached egg, fried green tomatoe, and Hollandaise sauce. The grit cake didn't really add to the benedict for me. It was dry texture. I would've appreciated an English muffin for texture contrast. Our First Visit on a Friday afternoon was Excellent! Seated outside, and spaced adequately, our server "Cassandra" promptly & professionally greeted us with a warm smile and suggestions for dining. The grilled scallops, crab cake, collard greens were all perfectly seasoned, and presented hot. The grilled chicken Ceasar was abundant and tasty. Plenty of Craft beers to choose from, and the Martinis hit the spot. We will return. read more

NOT SERVICE DOG FRIENDLY they refused to seat my family and I on my birthday because of my service dog. Many people don't know but it is illegal to do this. If I faint and slap my head on the ground because I'm denied access with my dog I could take legal action. Extremely disappointed after just wanting to live a normal life and enjoy my birthday. The server realized they were to be shared by a table of 6, did not bring plates for anyone. I guess they expected we would just reach and treat like finger food. If I could leave zero stars I would. Decided to make reservations for my wife's birthday and we were seated promptly, from there we waited. I. The thirty minutes we waited two servers checked on tables next to ours twice, one manager came to address an issue with a tables food with not one of them speaking to us. My wife went to the hostess to ask if we were in a bad location to be waited on and they said they would get right on it. Another 15 minutes and we left as our waitress finally came to our table. I had the opportunity to experience 1885 for the first time this evening. The food was prepared perfectly, and the service.... Well let me tell ya!! Mitchell was the server, and very personable. I was out with friends and one does have a very bad reaction to spy and gluten. Enter Mitchell.... He not only knows the menu, but which items were to have the two previously stated. I was in awe.... His suggestions for my first experience were on point. I mean seriously, this guy went way above and beyond. Miquel was the manager, and was equally as personable!! We were traveling through and we wanted wings. I googled best wings in Chattanooga. This place came up. Both my boys and myself ordered the wings. They were cold and tough and small. My wife ordered the salmon and said it was very good. The atmosphere was good although loud. The best thing about it was our waitress. She was amazing. She asked us how our food was and I said the wings were cold. She promptly put in another order and didn't charge us. I would not order the wings. I'm not sure why this location struggles. read more

To be fair about my three stars, my family enjoyed their meals a bit more than me so they may have voted up a little. Let's call it a 3.5. First, make a reservation. We called on a whim and were glad we did. The interior doesn't leave much of an impression- I don't remember much at all. The service was friendly and prompt, although my salad plate wasn't cleared during lunch. I do have to give credit to the timing of courses, which is an art I don't find often done well. We had the empanadas and they came quickly and freshly fried. I'd definitely recommend those. Didn't get a picture since we ate them so fast. After those plates were cleared, I got my salad, which was a bit wilted and nothing special. Then the entrees came. My cheesesteak was ok. A little salty and very rich, without anything to give it texture or brightness. My husband got the grilled chicken with vegetables and a grits cake. The cake was beautifully fried and completely lacked any flavor. What a wasted opportunity. The kids' menu hotdog was a bit overdone and even my two year old made very quick work of the few fries. My seven year old likes her buttered noodles, but the side of apples was brown and unappetizing. Overall, it was pretty good and we would probably go again, but I'd definitely order differently. I just expect more when I pay $15 for a sandwich. read more

Shrimp and grits were good. I believe they change the items on their menu periodically maybe seasonally. Every time I've eaten there it's been great. Service is descent. Right in the heart of the adorable Cambridge Square is this fabulous find! With indoor/outdoor seating, couches and coffee tables that come with servers, live entertainment and some of the best food you will find in Chattanooga, what more could you want? I'm a sucker for Pimento cheese and order it from anywhere I can, so when I tell you it is likely the best I have ever had, I know what I'm talking about. I'm only giving them a 3-star rating because the food was so good. As for the rest of the place, that only deserves 2-stars at best! We've been to this location twice, a little over a year apart. The first time we went, we didn't know we needed reservations, so we had to wait a good bit. We said we did not want to be seated in the bar, but that's where we ended up. We were so hungry by then we didn't fight it. The server was nice, and the food was excellent. But the whole time we were there, I could see two tables over in the dining area that were empty. We had been told that they were reserved. But no one ever took those tables while we were there. We could have been seated, served, and on our way before anybody showed up to use those tables. We went there today, this time with a reservation that had to be made online. I tried the phone, but it just rang and went to a message that said the mailbox was full. We arrived about 10 minutes early and they said they had to clean the table then we could be seated. That happened with no problem. Fortunately, we were seated with the menus because we had thoroughly perused them and decided what we wanted and then waited several more minutes to be greeted by our server. Our order was taken, and drinks were brought shortly thereafter. The food came out in a decent amount of time by someone other than our server. That person also refilled my drink. The food was delicious, and at proper temperatures when it was served. We couldn't eat it all, and we waited about 10 minutes before we saw our server again to request to-go boxes for our left-over food. It was another 5 minutes or so before the boxes and the check arrived. And it was about 5 more minutes for the server to come back and process our payment. The restaurant didn't seem particularly busy; several tables remained empty while we were there. I have to also say that our server was not very attentive and did not project a very customer friendly attitude, either. The ambiance there is ok. It's loud, with the sound bouncing off the walls. The seats were marginal; we really didn't want to sit there for very long. Unfortunately, we won't be back. read more

Came for dinner during a crowded Saturday evening. We loved the open air ambiance this place provides. The staff were friendly, our waitress was attentive and made great recommendations. I can personally recommend the mushroom and grits skeeter style with creamy grits!! The rainbow trout was super flavorful and the pimento cheese appetizer was delicious! The pecan bread was very tasty but needs perhaps a caramel sauce or scoop of ice cream to put it over the top. read more

We were visiting from out of town. They place came recommended. We were looking forward to a great meal. READ ON. We ordered a to-go order a week ago. The food was terrible. Before posting this review, I sent a direct e mail to the business stating pretty much what is below and gave them a chance to address the issues. No response. Either they don't care or they like bad press. Here we go. We ordered over the phone a to go order for four adults and two kids. The lady who answered the phone started to take the order. We were stopped as she said that she had to get a pen. THAT should have been clue. The order was taken, and we arrived for pick up. Fortunately, we reviewed the order before leaving and the Salmon was missing. This should have been another clue. This delayed a return home by about 20 minutes. Once at home we wanted to enjoy this meal. Not so fast. My son ordered the ribeye steak. What a waste of money for us and the person who bought the steak to cook. The meat was tasteless. No seasoning and absolutely no flavor. The green beans that were fresh were disgusting. Our daughter in law ordered the missing and now obtained salmon. She said it was good, she was being polite. We ordered three sides of fried okra. They came out partially breaded and just plain bad. My wife and I ordered sandwiches, her the chicken and I had the filet cheesesteak. Bad is an understatement. It was like eating paper. No flavor and no taste. Again, the ordered okra for us was just plain bad. The kids had a pasta dish and fingers. They ate about half, now they are kids but even they were unhappy. We spent $104.00 (with no drinks) for one of the most disgusting meals that we have ever had at any restaurant. It is sad that, first they messed up the order, second, they prepared A VERY BAD meal(s) and they don't care enough to respond to an e mail sent direct to their web site. Had brunch/early lunch at this cute spot in Ooltewah after going to open houses. For a saturday, The wait was minimal with the time being noon- the facility was busy inside and outside patio. Thankfully we were sat before the table of 9 and at a generous table for 8 ( party of 4), we were seated in an open area close to the kitchen area- i'm glad there was a lively bunch next to us, my youngest can get very restless and get LOUD. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food selections and offered her input as this was our first time. I went with the BLT with pimento cheese on the side, hubby got the eggs benedict which by the looks of his plate afterwards you would have thought he licked the plate. My youngest whom is VERY picky did not like the grilled cheese, so she was brought mac and cheese (this mac and cheese is not a kraft version it was actually like my nana's homemade mac and cheese). She didn't like that either, only ate the fries and fruit placed before her. The waitress was kind enough to bring her some ham, bc it was out on the grill to warm it up- she stuck her nose up at the areas that were charred but ate the rest. My oldest daughter got grilled shrimp and fries- ate it all. she said it was "delicious and wished more shrimp came on the kids plate (order of 3)". Next time we venture this place I'll be sure to leave the youngest with a sitter. Our patient waitress was wonderful and had such a wholesome attitude and patience. was very attentive and her recommendations were spot on. Brunette, mid length hair pulled back , southern accent. I have been to 1885 grill several times since they opened and have had an amazing experience every single time. The food is always to die for ( filet and grilled vegetables are my favorites) and the service is always great. We have sat at both bars and at tables in the main dining area and each time the staff have been knowledgeable, accommodating and on point. Our favorite place is the upstairs bar! I love being lectured by a snarky hostess for not having a reservation at 11:03 on a weekday when the restaurant is empty except for staff. Their website recommends, but does not require reservations. The service was fair for not being busy. This was my third visit and the food was very good. Each time I ordered something different (1. Trout; 2. Philly cheese steak; 3. Salmon). As far as cleanliness, the restaurant looked clean, but there were two large flies and gnats in the dining room. 1885 Grill - Ooltewah will not be my first choice when choosing to eat out. read more

We have came there since it opened and even had our daughter's engagement party there. It wasn't cheap mind you. We tried to eat there on a given weekend night and was told to make a reservation next time, which we did. We asked for an upstairs booth because we as a couple get seated at the little tiny table every time we come. (We should get smart and start saying more people are in our party when we make reservations.) So, we make one serval days in advance. We come 30 mins early and guess what? We are put upstairs at a bar table. The excuse was because people came in and sat in the booth we reserved. So, that just tells me not to follow the rules and sit down just like they did. They weren't asked to leave and we again sit nowhere better than if we had not made the reservations. It's so annoying. What are rules for? read more

Excellent staff and service. The food was perfectly cook. I had the ribeye steak medium and it was pink and juicy. I cut it with my fork so tender and juicy. It did not need anything to go with it. The grits was creamy and smooth and didn't have that grainy texture that some places have. The wait staff made me feel like they really cared about me having a good experience. I did run out of my drink even once. The upstairs taproom is beautiful if you are into that. The view from the upstairs only makes it better. Their bread puddings are mouthwatering, lipsmacking, slap yo friend silly good. Don't even try to share. read more

Came here out of recommendation and was not impressed. There were four of us dining and while nothing was bad per se, there was nothing to rave about. My friend got a side of gumbo and it came out barely warm. My husband got the étouffée and the rice was way over cooked. The cheese empanadas left much to be desired, it was more like cheese sauce (such as Mac n cheese sauce) inside. The side of Mac and cheese itself was pretty good! I'd be willing to give it another try, but it's definitely nothing to write home about. read more

Everything about this place was amazing! The hostesses, waitress and everything and everyone in between. We came out tonight for a much needed girls night and we were not disappointed. The kale salad (this is going to be super hipster if me) was the best thing I have ever put in my mouth! YUM!!! I am NOT a fish person and I will tell you the trout is not to be missed it was flavorful and not fishy. Our hostess visited our table even after we were seated to make sure we were doing well, the waitress attended to our every need, there was a handsome fella that cleared our table in a perfectly timely manner.
