We took quite a bit of time to decide (because everything looked so good on their menu); I ended up ordering the House Plate. The food was so delicious. The beans were flavorful and I was so happy at the amount on my plate. The avocado was creamy and the egg was a great addition on top that tied the whole dish together. I don't know what this piece was called, but it looked like I had some rice cracker things that were crunchy and provided a nice texture. Lastly, my favorite part were the grilled sweet plantains. They were caramelised and had the perfect amount of sweetness. Also the side salad tasted very fresh and healthy. The House Plate as a dish was so well balanced, there were healthy fats, protein, carbs, fiber. It had different textures from the various components that made up the dish. Visually it looked very nice too. Service was friendly and nice. I will rave about this place anywhere and to anyone who listens lol. The 5 star ratings are well deserved and I look forward to coming back here in the near future :)

Now, the place had more noise than a family reunion after someone mentions politics--two teenage softball teams carrying on, laughing, living large. Hard to fault that. Better than silence so thick you can hear your own regrets. Food showed up quick, which is about all you can ask when you're hungry enough to consider eating the menu. And it was good--honest good. Not "tell your mama about it" good, but solid, dependable, "yep, I'd order that again" good. Prices didn't make you feel like you'd just financed somebody's boat, either. Beer was cold--like it ought to be, like it better be--and the waitress understood to be there exactly when we needed her and vanishing when we didn't. That's an art form. Now the atmosphere... well, it had all the charm of a place that once had big decorating plans and then decided, "Eh, this'll do." A little on the bare side. Felt like a Friday night that never quite got dressed up. But I'll tell you this--I'd go back. And that, right there, is about the highest praise you can give a place without writing a love letter to the chef.

I'm going to start with the food and then back up…read more We were told the fried deviled eggs were great so we ordered them for the table but were told they were out of them. 3 out of 4 of us ordered the fish and chips. The fourth ordered a burger that looked amazing!! I knew I was in trouble when they brought the food. I could smell the oil when the plate was placed in front of me. On the plus side, the food was piping hot. On the negative, it was a mess. The fish was so greasy that it squirted and they put the greasy fish on top of a pile of limp fries thus making them extra greasy. I was only able to eat one piece of fish. I always order water to drink because I do t drink sodas. I took a sip and almost spit it out. The water was horrible! So, I had to try to eat my greasy dinner with no beverage to wash it down. Now, let's go to the beginning. We called to see how long the wait would be. On the recording, we had to select option 2, make a reservation. We asked how long the wait was and was told 5 to 10 minutes. We asked if we could make a reservation and were told they don't take reservations. This was confusing considering the phone options. We arrived a few minutes later and were told it was about a 20 minute wait. So, in conclusion, it was a long wait for an inedible meal with undrinkable water. It was $60 (our ticket for 2)wasted. Oh, it gets better. I just got the receipt from my husband. We were charged for a coke and an iced tea. So, $8 for drinks we didn't even order!

You can find Hoptown Beer Bar at 9431 Bradmore Ln Ste 101, Ooltewah, TN 37363. There's plenty of parking nearby so you don't have to walk far. This neat beer bar reminds me of the crowler shops that you used to find around Atlanta, with around 30 taps containing about a thrid local beer, so you can sample several local breweries without visiting each one (they're mostly not too near each other so this is very convenient). The taproom "beertender" seemed to be fairly knowledgeable regarding the various offerings - there's also a convenient list highlighting the different beers with style notes. We sat at the bar and were able to bring in some food from the nearby restaurants (I grabbed some wings at the nearby Marthie Ann's which were excellent). To drink I tried Hoptown's own Orange Mango Wheat - a somewhat basic wheat beer with hings of sweet tangerine and mango - nothing special. I had a Maine Brewing "Lunch" with the wings which is always a winner - it's an exceptional New England IPA. Service was great - I can see myself hitting Ooltewah just to come by for a break in driving.

I had the "Beer Flavored Beer" that was absolutely excellent and followed that up with the "Crisp AF Pilsner" that was also very good. Tasty and exactly what a beer is supposed to taste like. The do have a wifi, a power outlet or two and a big stack of board games. And lots of beer, wine and cocktails. [Review 18172 overall - 301 in Tennessee - 1694 of 2022.]
