DO NOT STAY HERE! This is an absolute scam! They (Carl Caudle) obviously pretend to be an upscale B&B, and it is NOT. My daughter has gifted us, for 10 years, some of the most wonderful B&B gift certificates in NC since we moved here! Well this has been, by far, the ONLY disappointing! Sadly we did not read thoroughly the latest reviews! We experienced the same audacity that several before us did! Funny thing, we were the only ones staying the night (luckily we only booked one night), to find that out upon arrival. No WiFi access (too cheap to expense that) the advertised pub was not an option, nor was the restaurant! Then in the morning the BREAKFAST, hense part of a BED & BREAKFAST experience, was a granola bar, dry cereal, a few grapes, cinnamon rolls wrapped in plastic wrap, juice "if" you wanted it and milk "if" you had cold dry cereal. Sadly the 2 ladies that work their are way too nice!! Shame on this owner! I have reached out via text several times in which I was told I would get a call back after Carl was out of a meeting...no call. Today I left a voice message...no return call. So, unfortunately lesson learned that those intended to lie and rip you off are out there even hidden under a very impressive PHONY website. read more

I left a neutral 3 star review because they did not answer the phone for over 4hours during their open hours. As a result, I get a call from the "owner" who was very hostile and did not care about my concern. He was very rude and unprofessional, stating that he was going to tell Groupon to cancel my stay, since he thought my neutral review was a negative review. He did not care to listen to me about my expectations that it is not acceptable to not answer the phone for over 4 hours. He basically didn't want any customers who said anything bad about his business, whether it be true or not. I truly was looking forward to this weekends trip, but because of this rude and unprofessional owner, I will not EVER stay at his B&B! Buyer Beware!!! read more

This inn had a wonderful reputation in the day. It was a huge part of historic Tryon, but sadly, today the inn is oddly detached from the community. Inflated prices, maintenance issues with an ownership who is absent. It reminds me of a rude relative who believes they are wonderful. "Could be better--- but will most likely not get better, in it's current standing. I hope that this inn collects itself and becomes again, what it once was--- but somehow I doubt it. read more

We stayed at the 1906 Pine Crest Inn for one night on the way on vacation. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again if in the area. I booked the lowest level room--the Boutique room. It was a basic, but clean, room with about enough room for a bed and a desk and some side tables, but the bed was comfortable and we had plenty of space for two people. I liked the rustic charm of the wood paneling. There are lots of comfy places to enjoy the outside air--we sat in rocking chairs and ate cookies provided by the Inn. We liked that the Inn was within walking distance to downtown and walked to a nearby pizza/italian place for dinner (the one at the bottom of the hill). Downtown Tryon is very quaint. There were two choices for breakfast--eggs with hashbrown casserole or waffles with apple cider vinegar syrup. Both came with bacon, some fruit, and a orange muffin. We both chose the waffles which consisted of 3 Belgian waffle quarters with the apple cider syrup and some canned mandarin oranges. The apple cider syrup was great. I wish the waffles had been crispier. You eat in the restaurant area with waitresses--this was slightly awkward because the menu indicated tipping is encouraged, but there was no charge for breakfast which makes it hard to leave a tip when you don't have cash with you. read more

Absolutely beautiful, historic inn nestled in the heart of Tryon, surrounded by gorgeous gardens and overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, this bed and breakfast is the definition of quaint. The room was recently renovated yet kept it's early 1900 charm complete with a fireplace and luxurious 4 post bed, this sets a very romantic scene. The best part is the gourmet breakfast every morning which is included in the rate of the room. They used to serve an amazing dinner as well, which if they still do, I highly recommend it! read more

Everything you could want In a B&B. Property: Up within a residential neighborhood, but feels very secluded, has great views and pretty landscape with lots of porches to sit and view them from. Friendly cats. Location: Tyron, Columbus, and the nearby town of historical Saluda all have food, shopping, and outdoor activities to offer. Stay: Rooms are cozy, and very clean. Restaurant food is high quality, staff very friendly and welcoming, but not bothersome. Great complimentary coffee and wine during certain hours, and activities to do at the B&B. read more

The Great: If you are into amazing B&B's, this place is such a find in a beautiful location at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. On the Select Registry Distinguished Inns of North America, this property was once a favorite a favorite of F. Scott Fitzgerald & Ernest Hemingway. It's warm, gracious, charming, and historic. The Great - part 2: If you are a wine and food lover, you are in for a treat at Carter's. This small exquisite restaurant is a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence recipient at the second tier level, which is much rarer than the first tier. I was so surprised to find such an extensive wine list and such an outstanding restaurant in a location that is not in a big city. The Bad: My visit to this Inn was on the way to Asheville to take the Christmas tour at Biltmore. My stay trumped that tour! Wish I had done the Biltmore first. The (potentially) Ugly: This Inn has three beautiful, well behaved, outdoor kitty cats on the premisis. We booked the Stone Cottage (3 beds/3baths) for 11/18-11/21. Kim, Jennifer and Monica were all very nice. Carl, the manager or owner, was not. The cottage had glass doors that did not lock. I asked for a refund for my $576 deposit because I won't sleep in a premise that has unlocked doors, I don't care how high up the deck is. I've been calling since last week to hear if Carl decided to refund me. Today I called again and he said he doesn't know yet. I politely reiterated that it's his responsibility to provide safe and locked accommodations. When I was shown other rooms they were not comparable to what I booked. Carl did say he fixed the lock the following day but I did not go back because I was already booked in the Red Horse Inn, Landrum which is gorgeous. I told Carl I'm going to post reviews and he got loud saying I'm threatening him. I told him it's not a threat. I'm simply writing what my terrible experience was so people can see how he runs his business. Carl stated this makes his decision for him and said he'll have the review removed and hung up the phone on me. When I called back there was no answer. I left a message saying how unprofessional he was. I guess I won't be getting my refund. I will never go back to the Pine Crest Inn again. read more

The room was clean, but the mattress needed to be replaced as we rolled to the middle. Breakfast was great. Unfortunately, we were there on Sunday and Monday nights, so we didn't experience dinner as the restaurant was closed. Overall, the place seems to need a lot of work. read more

First, I would like to say that I recommend this place. I stayed in a room with a gas fireplace and a four-post bed. It had the look and feel of an older time period, very cozy! As with every place there are pros and cons. After reading about the Inn, we were under the impression that there was a bar and also a free nightly drink. The bar was not open when we arrived and did not open that night. I think the restaurant is open on a seasonal basis, it was open for the complimentary breakfast, and was closed for the rest of the day. The breakfast was great! My only complaint is that each guest is given a different "time" to go and eat your breakfast. I get that maybe they need to stagger the crowd, but it felt weird being told what time you get to eat. One thing to be aware of is that the rooms do not have coffee makers, refrigerator, microwave etc....we also noted that a place to go and get ice would have been nice. Frist I want to say that the staff was very nice. I was so looking forward to my stay at this Inn. My travel started at 2am heading off to the airport for a 6am flight, needless to say not much sleep. I got off the plane in NC and drove about 1 1/2 hours to get to the Inn, I was extremely tired, but needed dinner. The Inn's restaurant is not open, no chef since Covid, so off I went to find dinner. Once I returned to the room, I became very disappointed, it was not the quality I expected, especially for the $$$. Now I am not that picky and can settle, but chasing a bug running across the floor at 10PM thats over 2 inches long is not appealing. The room had a musty smell too. I book this room for the jet tub, but the tub was not inviting at all. I went to bed with the lights on because I thought it would help keep any bugs from surfacing. I could not get to sleep. I turned on the TV in the hope that would put me to sleep and it was a fuzzy, no matter the channel. I DID NOT SLEEP THAT NIGHT , now 2 nights without sleep and felt ill, I WAS BEYOND TIRED. I went to the front desk next morning at 7am, and explained why I wanted to check out and that I did not want to pay for the following night that I was charged for. I was told they needed to have the owner Carl call me regarding a refund. It is now 2 weeks later and I have left messages, but no Carl. This place can offer so much more with a face lift and an owner that cares about good customer service. What a shame! read more

We stayed in Tryon at 1906 Pine Crest Inn for 2 days enjoying the October fall leaves. It is great to sit and relax on the porch and just take in the quiet Southern North Carolina evenings. Booked on Hotels.com. Front desk closes at 7:30pm so you have to check in early. If you don't you are out of luck until the next day. Advertised bar and restaurant on site. There was neither. Room was small with peeling wallpaper, lamps from Wal Mart, sink was cracked, moldy smell, and paper thin doors. Was quite frightened when another group of guests arrived home late in the same guesthouse intoxicated. The next morning , housekeeping was terrible. They were loud and rude. I had the do not disturb sign out and did not need service, yet they came in at 9 am so loud that there was no chance of resting. I was trying to work when a man knocked on the door. I answered and he was so rude when he told me this was my last chance for service. I was fine. I would have loved to have breakfast in my room as advertised but there is no phone in the room and no number to contact the front desk. This is alarming when staying alone and I found myself frightened. The lady at the front desk was lovely. Beware there is no help with your luggage and they expect you to walk a long way with it. As an older woman this was difficult until I discovered alternative parking. Extremely overpriced for the accommodations. The grounds are lovely and the interior of the main lodge is quite lovely as well. I won't be staying again. read more

Because of the excellent service and mostly correcting the problems, I'm giving four stars despite a few disappointments. The property and location are charming and scenic, we were greeted with cookies and iced coffee and there are many nearby conveniences. However, we'd been driving a while and looking forward to sitting down to a nice meal, but the RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED, on a Tuesday. Also, we needed wi-if and IT DIDN'T WORK. The room we WERE given with twin beds was farther away from the main house and a bit dank. It has dark green carpet from the 80's and the linens, window blinds and other fabrics are old and cheap. But I spoke with the man on duty and he quickly remedied the problem by putting us in an updated (well as updated as a B&B gets) queen size attractive room with good wi-fi. In addition, he recommended a nice restaurant down the street. At the end of the day, I'd return if I could get the room I wanted and if the restaurant is open. read more

This place is beautiful! Very wonderful and rustic and the owners are amazing! They're the nicest people and they really go the extra mile to be sure you're happy and comfortable. I took my girlfriend there for Valentine's Day weekend. I had flowers delivered to the inn and I let them know ahead of time and not only did they hold them for me, they kept them refrigerated then when I came and got them they helped me put them in the case arrange them without me having to ask! The rooms are cozy and homey. They had a piano player playing In the lobby on Saturday evening it was beautiful! If I had to find a few negatives, the water pressure Isn't great but that kind of goes with the rustic ambience also. And the breakfast was very good, not great. Other than that... Pine Crest Inn was perfect! If you're looking for a romantic mountain getaway this is a great place to go! read more

We just got back from staying a night at this Inn. I love old historical places. This inn is very charming. The wrap around porch, everything, reminds you of days gone by. The grounds are lovely, lots of trees and mature shrubs. The innkeepers are very nice. And we adored the cat named "Swat" that lay on our porch wanting to be petted. The breakfast (included) was wonderful. Asparagus, spinach and mushroom omelet with strawberry pancakes, hash browns, bacon, fresh fruit and banana nut homemade muffin, juice and coffee. And our server, Mary, was priceless. So friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her. I had read about ghosts there, as one does when old inns or hotels are involved. It was kind of strange that one of the rockers on our porch was gone the next morning. My husband then saw it on the upstairs porch, but we're not sure how it got up there.....lol. We will be back. The breakfast has assured that we will. read more

We had dined at the Pine Crest Inn for dinner several times a number of years ago and found it to be exceptional; unfortunately this is not still the case. We started with the crab cake appetizer, advertised as prepared with "lump crabmeat"....we found the cakes to be almost all "filler" in a heavy flour coating. For an appetizer the portion was overly generous, but the flavor and texture were totally unappealing. Unfortunately they did not have the Osso Buco as per their menu, which is what we wanted upon our initial review, but we were informed a veal chop was being served instead. Shame on me for not asking exactly how it was prepared; the chop was HUGE and that is the only reason there was enough meat to eat. By the time we finished cutting around the fat and grissle, there was little meat to be had. I guess my previous experiences with veal chops led me not to question more about how it was prepared before I ordered it; my presumption was a nice, grilled chop. Who knows how they actually prepared it because it was served on top of the vegetables that included squash and red and green bell peppers. Every bite of the chop that had come into contact with the bell peppers tasted just like the vegetables. Also served on top of the chop was a huge mound of diced tomatoes and herbs. I just scraped those off to the side. The chop itself was utterly the most tasteless piece of meat I have ever put in my mouth. And at $43 per plate, I have to say I expected more. Another unpleasant surprise was having an "automatic gratuity" of 18% included on the tab, even though we were not with a large party. I initially checked with the server regarding that and she very graciously directed me to the manager there that evening; he said he "thinks it has something to do with it being a B&B" and of course I questioned the fact that we were not lodging there, simply having dinner. He told me I would need to call back the next day and speak with the general manager. I also told him if that was some rule of regulation that diners should be informed prior to ordering.....it should be noted on the menu or somewhere as automatic gratuities are generally held for large parties, and it is usually well noted. No complaints with the service...the ladies who took care of us were attentive, professional, and pleasant. The physical setting is lovely, the service was attentive, so I am giving it one star for those; the food was less than marginal and ridiculously priced. We won't be back and will not recommend it. read more
