"Our only regret is that we booked just one night!" We've stayed at several B&Bs, and The Red Horse Inn ranks among the very best. Every detail was exceptional--from the thoughtful touches in the room to the breathtaking scenery. We're already looking for an excuse to return to South Carolina so we can spend more time here. This stay was part of a planned road trip through North and South Carolina, and the experience began well before we arrived. In the weeks leading up to our visit, Christian reached out multiple times to confirm our preferences and arrival details. It was such a thoughtful touch and made us feel genuinely welcomed, like our stay truly mattered. The arrival and check-in instructions were clear, warm, and inviting--more like being welcomed as guests than customers. The drive in sets the tone beautifully, winding through the rolling hills of northwest South Carolina, past lush forests and open pastures. Eventually, you arrive at an unassuming gate off the road, leading past a small pond and into the woods. A short drive up a gravel road brings you to the main inn. The building houses four guest rooms along with common spaces used during their wine bar events. There are also several private cottages on the property, which we didn't explore--but after this stay, they're definitely on our radar for next time. We stayed in the Gable Room, located up a flight of stairs with its own private ground-level entrance. A personalized note greeted us at the door, and inside, a beautifully arranged welcome letter awaited us on the bed, surrounded by rose petals--an elegant and memorable touch. The room itself was stunning. Our favorite details included the lace-draped bed, the cozy gas fireplace, the relaxing jetted tub, and the incredible balcony view. It truly felt like every possible need had been anticipated--from plush robes to well-stocked kitchenette supplies, even down to small, thoughtful items like bandages by the sink - just in case. And the bed--absolutely incredible. The memory foam mattress and feather pillows made for one of the best nights of sleep of the trip. Waking up to a sunrise over the pasture, with horses grazing against a mountain backdrop, was nothing short of magical. We spent the morning on the balcony, setting up the chairs and tray tables to enjoy coffee in the early sun. It was completely peaceful--just the sounds of birds, a few wild turkeys, and the occasional soft chuff from the horses. We were genuinely disappointed to be leaving after just one night. Throughout the rest of our trip--and even now--we keep talking about how much we wish we had stayed two or three nights instead. If there's one small area for improvement, it would be the Wi-Fi. The signal in our room was a bit weak, and the streaming-only TV had trouble connecting. That said, in a place like this, you may find you don't miss it at all. It didn't detract from our experience, and certainly not enough to impact our rating. Overall, a 10/10 experience. We even had the pleasure of meeting Christian, Allison, and Griffin on our way out--they are an absolutely charming family. Thank you for an unforgettable stay. We can't wait to return. This wonderful little get away spot is perfect for a honeymoon, work retreat, or just to get away from stress. From the breathtaking surroundings to the close intimacy the rooms has to offer this place caresses you in comfort, friendliness, cleanliness, and relaxation. Also the restaurant recommendations by staff were wonderful, we went to The Hare and Hound Pub. Wonderful food in the downtown landrum location about 13 min away. We stumbled upon this beautiful inn after our wedding was canceled due to Covid-19. We decided to roll the dice and booked an elopement ceremony, and it was best choice we ever made. Christian was a pleasure to work with, and was beyond accommodating to all of our last minute requests. The property is breath taking. Our cottage (Carriage Bay) was so precious. No TV in the bedroom, which we loved, but some may not love this. There are also so many amazing local restaurants nearby that we thoroughly enjoyed! Five stars. Will definitely be back. read more

What an amazing place to escape the pandemic! This beautiful property has mountain views, horses frolicking in the green pastures, private hiking trails, a wine bar and outdoor musical entertainment. The owner, Christian, was gracious, accommodating and kept everyone's safety in mind. Our private cottage, the Hayloft, was well stocked, immaculately clean, romantic and cozy and had a hot tub with full moon views. The town of Landrum is only a short distance with plenty of good restaurants offering takeout, we got great BBQ at Southside Smokehouse and Grill. My husband and I enjoyed celebrating our anniversary in The Gable Bedroom. The private balcony had incredible views over the side of the property with the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance - just stunning! In the mornings after brewing coffee in our room, I would look out over the balcony to see the horse, Secret, in the paddock and sunrise over the mountains. Views were out of a painting. The room itself is the epitome of romance and tranquility. The draped sheer fabric over the head added to the feeling of romance in the room. We arrived to rose petals on the bed and a beautiful love poem from the Inn Keepers! You must take a walk around the Inn's trails. The Innkeepers have placed beautiful signs through the woods that make your stroll feel magical. Off property, we had a great time visiting nearby Landrum and Saluda where there were several eclectic restaurants and antique shops. The innkeeper also recommended a horseback riding waterfall tour, which was the highlight of our getaway - definitely ask about booking this! We hope to return again for another anniversary in the near future. read more

Recently stayed for three nights at this wonderful Inn - and cannot say enough nice things. The property is amazingly beautiful - rolling hills, endless miles of walking trails, perfect sunrises and sunsets, and peace. The Inn itself, and its collection of cottages are also perfect for getting away from everything. The Innkeeper is also wonderful, extremely helpful in every way and will ensure you have a wonderful time. We also loved that parts of the inn are pet friendly (as are the Innkeeper's furry friends) and our pup loved running the grounds and walking the trails. Finally - this is a beautiful part of SC - we spent two wonderful days touring the back roads, taking in the scenery, visiting local vineyards and eating well. Can't wait to go back. read more

Christian pays attention to detail and the rooms had everything we needed. They are so tastefully decorated with beautiful antiques and the beds are super comfortable and the linens so soft. We went tonight for wine and music on the patio with Brian Ashley Jones and it was simply fabulous. The owners followed covid protocol and we felt safe and welcome. So important with everything going on. We haven't been anywhere and it was SO nice to have this opportunity for a night out. Christian sent thorough instructions ahead of time. We stuck our chairs and a little folding table in the car just in case because he told us seating was first come, first serve. So do that because I assure you that the more people that discover this gem...space will fill up. The views are magnificent. It really is what we all need in these trying times. My husband and I stayed here at The Hayloft Cottage. It was absolute perfection from the time we turned into the Inns property. The grounds are beautiful. Our cottage had a private jacuzzi with breathtaking views. We paid additional for the weekend couple getaway and it was well worth it. When we opened the door to our cottage there sat our chilled champagne; there were sweet little votive candles all around. A fresh little flower arrangement with a beautiful rose. Sitting on the table was our souvenir coffee mugs (you receive these with the weekend couple package). The cottages are very private and peaceful. You do not hear anything other than nature. We were able to makes friends with Secret; she is a beautiful horse at the Inn. We enjoyed every second we spent here. We have already decided we will stay here every year. Magical. read more

Not sure what Marti T's deal is. Don't believe a word of it...there is not a chance in the world that The Red Horse Inn is as low as a 2-star Bed and Breakfast. This place absolutely has some of the best wide open views of the rolling hills and low mountains I can recall having seen. And the Inn is clean and bright and so well landscaped you'd have to just be a grumpy person to not be thrilled to be there. I consider myself a somewhat seasoned traveler and to have an keen eye for detail. This is one of the very best properties I have ever stayed in. I enjoyed my stay here as much as the night I spent at a Ritz! The details just never stop at this Inn. We stayed in the Grainary, a very romantic cottage. Decorated in white tones and soft fabrics, this cottage is casual luxury. Guests are not expected to do any major housekeeping unless they want to. We stayed two nights, so this wasn't a big deal for us. At check out all we had to worry about was getting all our things out of the way. Everything else was taken care of by the staff. This property is absolutely lovely. The rolling hills and beautiful naturalized landscaping are just enchanting. The food left in the fridge for breakfast was very tasty and well thought out. Fresh fruit and coffee with all the extras were also provided, as well as oatmeal, grits and muffins. It all requires minimal effort and this is the type of place where you're meant to appreciate being able to enjoy "alone time" There were plush, soft bath robes, cozy blankets and both foam and feather pillows. The bed was amazing, and very high off the floor! The walls of the bedroom are painted with words of love.. "love is patient, love is kind.." "how do i love thee, let me count the ways". How unique and romantic! So sweet! The hosts have also done a great job providing information on the local area. We were told about several great places and enjoyed everything we ventured to try. We celebrated our 10th anniversary here, and it was an amazing experience. We stayed at the Huntbox cottage, and it was simply gorgeous. They knew it was our anniversary, so they provided champagne already iced and waiting for us. There were rose petals on the bed, and a personal note from the owners congratulating us on our ten years. Everything was clean and comfortable. When you're in the cottage, you feel like there's no one else in the world. The grounds are simply beautiful with amazing views. The breakfast provided was a quiche and a yogurt parfait. Both were delicious, and it was so nice that they were already in the fridge waiting. Go to this place if you're looking for romance. It's truly a wonderful, peaceful escape. We recently spent a night at the Red Horse Inn while on the way to Asheville, NC. It looked like a secluded, cozy little place to stay and enjoy the country. I was not impressed with the accommodations (though being buisness travelers, I think we may have high expectations). I just think that for $315.00/night there are much nicer places to stay. The "hostess" was quite rude, and pushed her tickets to nearby attractions. The "breakfast" was a quiche thing that you had to microwave....not good. The cottages were quaint, but could use some work (uncomfortable furniture, outdated ammenities, etc.). Overall, it just wasn't a memorable experience. For the money, I would recommend heading to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville instead. read more

My husband surprised me here for our anniversary. He had visited ahead and selected the room in the main house with a beautiful balcony overlooking the property . When we arrived there were roses, champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries in the room. The bed had a few petals. Bathrobes with oils in the bathroom. ( even a little yellow ducky). A beautiful anniversary love poem from the Inn Keepers was left in the room. Everything was perfect and the details were so romantic and special. The Inn with gardens and hiking trails is spectacular. There is music softly playing as you walk thru the walkways and soft lighting at night. The pastures are green and rolling. The cottages are spaced for privacy. We travel and I haven't seen any place that rivals this property in the US. The breakfast is placed in your mini fridge late afternoons so you can enjoy on your balcony at your leisure. For some people the breakfast is the "treat" of a B&B . We stayed at this inn for 2 nights and it exceeded our expectations. The property is GORGEOUS, situated on rolling hills, with sprawling views across their fields with the spectacular mountains as a backdrop. We stayed in the East Room which was well appointed and very nicely furnished: the woodwork is amazing!! The bedding was luxurious, as were the warm, comfy robes we found in the closet. There's coffee or tea and muffins for breakfast and a mini fridge with orange juice and yogurt. There's also a microwave. The grounds are well kept throughout and perfect for today's stroll around the property. Yesterday we visited local wineries, a quick 20 minute drive from the inn. We can't wait for our next visit to take advantage of the miles of wooded trails on the property and its proximity to Ashville. A special thanks to Christian and Chelsea, who were charming hosts and always made us feel welcome and at home. I can't wait to see the wine bar once it's completed! See you both in the spring!! Beautiful B&B with breath taking views. We enjoyed spending our anniversary there. One thing they could improve on is the breakfast in your room. My wife and I had never been to a bed and breakfast before but I wanted to do something new for our 10 year anniversary. We had heard a lot of good things about the Red Horse Inn so we booked our stay. All the reviews and comments were true! From the moment we walked in Christian made us feel welcome. The room was cozy and they provided a different combination of breakfast foods and tea/coffee each day that was really good to eat. We mentioned in passing that my wife was getting over a cold and in one of our breakfast baskets they had provide some extra tea as well as honey to help her out. This was a small gesture by Christian and the staff but it meant a lot of us and definitively made us feel valued. The Inn is close to Landrum and Tryon so you can have a great place to stay and be at fun restaurants within 20 minutes. Not sure what Marti T was talking about in her review. The homemade quiche was wonderful, not some microwavable "thing". We spent our honeymoon at the RHI. Found the owners Mary and Roger to be accommodating and the grounds/cottages clean, peaceful and tranquil. Just the fact that we got to include our 3 legged kids, makes it 5 stars for us. They welcomed us and our babies with open arms. Just to know the background about RHI makes it all that more special. Beautiful SC scenery with a romantic flair, enjoyable. Easy access to Asheville, Greenville and beyond...Go visit Mary and Roger, see for yourself! read more
