We stayed in a cottage years ago but this time stayed in a corner room in the main inn. Wonderful setting, amazing breakfast, and an entirely great team supporting the guests. We didn't have dinner here but that's only because of a pre-existing res elsewhere. The new owners have maintained the place amazing well, from the new terrace extension to the restaurant (heated!), to the paths, Tesla wall batteries in case of emergencies, coffee service. My daughter has gifted us, for 10 years, some of the most wonderful B&B gift certificates in NC since we moved here! Well this has been, by far, the ONLY disappointing! Sadly we did not read thoroughly the latest reviews! We experienced the same audacity that several before us did! Funny thing, we were the only ones staying the night (luckily we only booked one night), to find that out upon arrival. No WiFi access (too cheap to expense that) the advertised pub was not an option, nor was the restaurant! Then in the morning the BREAKFAST, hense part of a BED & BREAKFAST experience, was a granola bar, dry cereal, a few grapes, cinnamon rolls wrapped in plastic wrap, juice "if" you wanted it and milk "if" you had cold dry cereal. Sadly the 2 ladies that work their are way too nice!! Shame on this owner! I have reached out via text several times in which I was told I would get a call back after Carl was out of a meeting...no call. Today I left a voice message...no return call. So, unfortunately lesson learned that those intended to lie and rip you off are out there even hidden under a very impressive PHONY website.

But everything else was a solid 3. Nothing wrong with it at all... But, I was underwhelmed based on my previous experiences. When we checked in, the host was fine. The room was fine. The bathroom did leave some things to be desired. There was not a good place to put your toiletries. We also had to climb into a very deep bathtub to get to the shower... If you are clumsy, like me, you may walk away with a couple of bruises. The house itself was very pretty, and was decorated in a manner appropriate for the property. I would've liked to seen some warm blanket to sit out on the patio with, board games, or puzzles to pass the time. There was only one sofa, and it was not in a cozy little nook where you would want to hang out. The food was fine. The menu is heavy on carbs and sweet breakfast treats. They were executed well enough. But there was not any particular breakfast that knocked my socks off. Again it was fine. The location was very convenient to downtown Asheville. It would be a two minute drive or a 10 minute walk to downtown Asheville. This bed-and-breakfast did not appear to be owned and operated by the hosts, rather an absentee corporation or business. I think that made the difference. Everything was fine, but it didn't have that touch of home that you expect when you stay at a bed and breakfast. For example, when we wanted to use the television, and needed some assistance, when we called the number that was left, the call was blocked. On a whim , we texted Fortunately, they responded right away. But ultimately, after 6 PM you are on your own in terms of staffing. Overall, I can recommend Beaufort House, but I think next time I will try something different.

However, I was expecting this to be a special and elegant experience and it was not. When we arrived during the specific check in time the door was locked and no one was in the front office. It turns out they were showing someone else to their room but we didn't know that. We just stood out on the porch not knowing what to do until someone finally came to the door. There's no reason they couldn't have the front door unlocked during the limited window of check in time. The person who showed us around said there would be "heavy continental breakfast ". However, it turned out the breakfast was probably the very absolute minimum they could provide and still call it breakfast. It was very disappointing. If I'm not mistaken it was only available from 8:30 until 9:30 or something very limited like that. Finally, there was no lotion in our bathroom, only shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap. I would stay there again but I would have to weigh the options of amenities and prices of other hotels. A regular mid price hotel has more amenities than what was offered when we stayed.

I want to support independent inns across the country. That's why I stay in them and avoid…read morecorporate hotels. This one was a terrible disappointment, unfortunately. Here are a few of my chief complaints: 1) There was no one to check me in when I arrived late after a long flight from California. After standing in the empty front room for a while, I saw a small sign saying to call a number to check in. I called twice before an insolent teen in sweatpants finally showed up to give me my key. 2) The inn adds a daily "tip" for room cleaning on top of an already high bill. (This is one of the more splurgey places to stay in the Black Mountain area.) If that wasn't rude enough, no one ever came by during my three-night stay to clean/tidy the room. The toilet bowl had dirt marks all over it when I showed up and there they stayed for the duration of my visit. No one made the bed. 3) Internet did not work. 4) Breakfast begins late -- at 8.30am -- because the chef has to take his five children to school. Seriously. So if you're staying there for work, as I was, you have to get breakfast elsewhere. That being said, after a lengthy argument with aforementioned insolent teen, the chef prepped me some breakfast items before he left for the night and left them in the fridge. They are definitely in the right field! The house is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are so quaint and homey. We also love the large wraparound front porch where we sat and read every morning and afternoon (with a glass of wine). The breakfast all three days were amazing - from baked French toast with fresh local fruit and the hash brown crusted quiche. All of it was unique and totally delicious! We can't wait to come back to the area and stay here again! Saluda is a cute little town with great hiking trails and lots of outdoor activities nearby.

The B&B is set back from the road so it is pretty impossible to see but sits on a beautiful on a piece of land. The home is gorgeous offering updated items like the en suite bathrooms but keep with the original charm of this historical home. Each evening they offer happy hour with local wines and homemade hors d'oeuvres - a great way to get to know Abe and Pam and the other guests. Breakfast consisted of three courses and they were able to accommodate my friend who joined me with his many food allergies with the 1st and 2nd courses. This B&B is amazing and Pam and Abe offer top notch service and amenities. If you want an awesome experience that's close enough to wander into the heart of Brevard this is the place for you!!!
