This is such a hidden gem in the city. Sure everyone knows about St. Elmo's but this was such a fun, moody speakeasy vibe above the restaurant itself, offering the world famous shrimp cocktail and some other fabulous eats and drinks. I sat at the bar, and our bartender was attentive, wonderful and professional. The house specialty mule was wonderful with a vodka option I'd not only never heard of but haven't tried before. Will definitely recommend it all! If you're looking for the St. Elmo's experience without a restaurant reservation or wanting to sit down for a marathon meal, I absolutely recommend 1933. read more

I was wholly unprepared for the way the recent loss of Rathskeller bartender Wayne Bigbee, gutted me. I've been reflecting on his impact and decided it's simple: people want to feel like someone cares. He showed this in many ways throughout his tenure at the bar. This was my frame of mind when I had the good luck to be cared for by Philip at the 1933 Lounge last night. He exuded good vibes and was both positive and efficient. We were in a hurry to make a show at the Lawn at TCU and Philip was on it! Extra dirty Hendrix martini and shrimp cocktail arrived quickly and started what would be a perfect dining experience. My friend and I both ordered the 2 slider and crab mac and cheese combo. Someone else ran the food, and upon passing by, Philip immediately noticed that I didn't get any crab in my mac and cheese. I probably wouldn't have said anything since we were in a rush, but he didn't even give me time to contemplate what to do before heading to the kitchen and returning with a ramekin of crab! I'm so glad he did- the addition of crab made the dish something I will continue to crave. When he noticed that my friend's beer was taking a little longer than expected, he went to investigate, took it off the bill and brought it anyway! It isn't often that you encounter such attention to details! That, coupled with a friendly and caring demeanor, made Philip really stand out. As soon as you walk in, this place has a mad-men like feel with a mix of Restoration Hardware. It's a swanky lounge, but really more of a restaurant, where you can get delicious food and solid cocktail options in Fishers. They offer executive lunch options, semi-private tables/booths for dinners or parties, and an awesome patio which is perfect for those summer nights. read more

Gotta love when a place as legendary as St Elmo's Steakhouse in Indianapolis jumps on the cocktail bandwagon and opens up their own speakeasy right above them in the same building. Even better is finding out about in on Yelp and heading right on up while St Elmo's is packed and not taking any more reservations the days I was there last week for a trade show. While the masses were fighting it out for elbow room below I was sitting at a mostly empty dimly lit bar while listening to old standards and sipping on a well made cocktail in peace. 1933 Lounge has adequately captured the essence of a classic lounge atmosphere with a speakeasy vibe. Dimly lit with retro lighting hanging over the bar, brick walls, fireplace, couches and a few tables close by. A back room with more seating and a communal table. Cozy and intimate comes to mind. Cocktail waitresses in sexy red dresses. Black & white "End of Prohibition" pictures and signs on the far wall across the bar. Old standards and jazz playing in the background. Sexy and classy at the same time, and a great spot to take a date for some top shelf drinks. They offer a small but solid specialty cocktail list with a few unusual craft beers on hand too. Also a good wine list by the glass and a decent whiskey list. What is really nice is that they offer a menu of appetizers and small bites that come from St Elmo's downstairs. My sirloin filet sliders served with a house horseradish sauce were superb, and it's a terrific way to experience a bite of St Elmo's normal menu if you can't get in or don't want to spend a lot. The "Elmo Cola" made with regular or diet Coke, Makers Mark Bourbon, Luxardo Maraschino Cherries, Madagascar Vanilla Beans, and topped with Drunken Cherries on the rocks made for a perfect drink to sip and enjoy. As is with cocktail bars expect to pay a bit more for a quality crafted drink, but it's worth it as 1933 Lounge is a nice reprieve in casual surroundings away from the normal crowds and rowdiness that pack the bars in this area. Aside from the initial slow service, I tried their signature Elmo Cola which was your choice of a glass-bottled coke or Diet coke with infused Maker's Mark, Maraschino cherries and Madagascar Vanilla Beans. Served with their famous drunken cherries. Really tasty! Think of like a more complex Vanilla Coke! I enjoyed it! The glass bottle of Coke is s nice touch too. Sitting at the bar, we were tempted to order food as we saw orders and orders of their cocktail shrimp going out. Those shrimp were huge! But I noticed that the shrimp wasn't cleanly deveined so I didn't wanna take a chance. Anyways, nice ambiance of classy old cocktail lounge with low lighting. Definitely worth a stop to grab a round! The 1933 lounge could be a five star in my book. The framework is there, but there are a few quirks. First off the pricing of the bar food menu is a little out of whack. A two ounce petite filet mignon will set you back about $25, but six oysters served Rockerfeller style is only $14. By the way the oysters are just ok. I'm always skeptical when they don't advertise where the oysters were harvested from. Second is the pricing of the drink menu. I've never been impressed with any of the cocktails and some of them are over $13. The St. Elmo cola... Just too too sweet for me. Maybe it's the Maker's, or whatever is in their secret 'infusion' but it's just not this bourbon lover's style. A friend's mule was mostly lime juice once. I guess it will depend on the tender of the cocktails that night, but for $13 I expect delicious 100% of the time. Ambiance is a big, gigantic five stars. I like taking people there, because the seats next to the fireplace are primo. Also.... beware of the revenge of the meatball slider!!! That thing is spiiiiiiiicy (which I can take). Even our server admitted to it as causing heartburn. But it is delicious! As are the the filet sliders ($5). Also, some of the wait staff.... a little more like Hooter's than classy bar. I've been to St. Elmo's but this was my first time at 1933 Lounge. The atmosphere was dark and quiet, but interesting and luxurious. We got a table in the back and our waitress was very quick to attend to us. My friends from Chicago we're excited about getting the shrimp cocktail and my other friend was looking forward to the waygu slider. It was great. It was all great. The shrimp cocktail lived up to its reviews and my friend couldn't stop raving about the slider. Our drinks were really good too. The miles were on point and so was my dirty martini. I really love this place. It's great for mixing it up as a local or taking your friends from out of town. I love this family of places. We don't really ever get a chance to come here. We always go to St Elmo's with reservations. This time we just happened to be a bit early. And the downstairs bar was packed. The hostess informed us of the lounge upstairs. Sweet lets give it a shot. Its upstairs. It too is packed. Not a lot of seating around the bar. It is set up like a lounge with couches and tables. - not my fav but beggars cant be choosers. It has a speakeasy kind of vibe. Where it fell flat was service. One server for half the room. Going to the bar is almost not possible but my husband tries. I stay behind knowing the worst that could happen is that we get our first two rounds. The server is very intent on helping the large party that literally was sitting down when she came over. Like she had to wait for them to get settled and to tell her to come back. Meanwhile I'm sitting across from her with no drink or bar nap to show I have been helped. She almost leaves without getting my drink order until I speak up. Just as she is walking away my husband is walking over with a look of defeat. I guess no bar orders for us. We try to get apps in when she returns letting her know that we have a reservation. Went here yesterday with a party of about 10. I ordered the signature margarita with a splash of orange juice and it was great. The Rockefeller oysters and they were amazing! I'm generally used to raw oysters with some type of horse radish sauce/hot sauce but this was a nice surprise. We halved a wagyu steak burger and a king crab grilled cheese and they were both good as well. They do offer different three course meals for lunch for each no more than $38. That would of also been a nice option. The atmosphere is great. Service was great. They keep hand sanitizers on the serving trays to use before grabbing our plates and setting them down for us. We stopped by after attending the orchestra. It was extremely busy (shoulder to shoulder), but we found a table by a stroke of luck. Our waitress was friendly and provided good service. We got drinks and shrimp cocktail. I got the bramble mule and it was far too sweet for my taste. Overall, it was a cool spot, but it was too crowded to move or even have a conversation with my table mates. As far as the bar goes, the service was neither friendly nor rude but I certainly did not feel too welcome on this Monday night (perhaps that's why). In any case, I asked my bartender if she could make a really good old fashioned. She said, "sure," then turned around and made something I'd expect from Chili's (no offense). It's important to stir this classic well and that obviously did not happen as it was quite warm. Yes, I'm an old fashioned snob. 1st, keep in mind my post is my experience! This visit I was a female by herself. Great service! It had been awhile since my one and only visit of the Lounge and I was unsure of the correct door to take. The valet of St. Elmo were very nice to tell me I was indeed grabbing for the correct door handle! Lovely rush hour crowd in my opinion for 4:30pm! I was quickly greeted at the bar though! I ordered a common dry white wine that was great! Bartender was friendly and made this single gal feel welcomed! I would normally sit down at the bar when I am single at a place but the chairs were pushed together so much that it wasn't very inviting! Maybe it was just the current guests taking up more than their social space allowance! I instead looked around and found that the lounge has another room! Very cozy! Sometimes swanky live bands! It's dim! It's old! It's cool. - st Elmo level food without the wait, helloooo shrimp cocktail and clean sinuses - drinks are ahhhmazing. Big big fan of espressso martinis here (just do espresso, vodka and Kahlua, no baileys needed!) & the French 75 is great - often have exclusive whiskies - fun wallpaper bathroom (just take a peek). All in all, a great time and now that I'm writing this makes me miss living downtown and being able to walk home. read more

***This review is only for the drinks.*** The wife and I decided to have a pre-dinner drink at 1933 Lounge before meeting my parents for dinner at St. Elmo on a Thursday night. We'd had drinks there before on a previous trip to Indianapolis and experienced mixed results (no pun intended). Perhaps, we had caught them on an off night. Therefore, we gave it another chance, this time ordering off menu, but sticking with the classics. I had a Sazerac and the wife had a Manhattan. Not exactly obscure drinks and ones that any self-respecting bar, let alone one that is attached to one of the best steakhouses in town, should be able pull of without breaking a sweat. There's an adage that if you see the bartender shake your Manhattan...run! We should've run. I'll let her describe her own experience with her drink, but mine was far from ideal. For my Sazerac, the bartender rinsed an Old Fashioned glass with Lucid absinthe and then free poured Bulleit Rye and simple syrup into a shaker, maybe added dashes of Peychaud's and Angostura (I didn't see it and couldn't tell by taste), gave it a hard, quick shake (NO!!!!), garnished it, and served it up. While still boozy, the drink was over diluted, yet not sufficiently chilled, and wildly out of balance with sugary sweetness being the most noticeable trait overwhelming any absinthe and bitter notes. I'm pretty surprised that a great restaurant like St. Elmo hasn't exacted the same level of precision and excellence that it has for its food for the cocktail program at 1933 Lounge. Regardless, it was easily one of the worst renditions of this classic that I've ever had and solidified my opinion that this was our last time that we'll ever come back to the 1933 Lounge. Admittedly, we're both cocktail snobs. That said, we know what a well-made drink is and, frankly, it can't be found at 1933 Lounge. Make the short walk to the much better cocktail spots like Plat 99, the Libertine, or Ball & Biscuit. You'll be glad you did. read more

Word cannot describe...heavenly. The old-school, prohibition era vibe, dim lights and classy decor were right up my alley. I settled in to a cushy high-backed chair nestled in a cozy conversation pit area with lots of table space for drinks and food. So posh. Big gold mirrors and nostalgic photography added to the ambiance. We ordered the bacon appetizer to start and it blew me away. Thickly sliced, drenched in a sweet glaze, it melted in my mouth. Next, we indulged with the crab macaroni and cheese, it was decadent and rich...and somehow exceeded my expectations. Enough for two and then some. Wow. Champagne was my drink of choice and it only elevated my mood and the glamour. The waitresses are all young, gorgeous and dressed in chic red outfits and heels. Sexy, but subtle. Great touch. We shared a sliced New York Strip with cheese crisps, medium rare. It may have been on the appetizer menu. Cooked perfectly, the steak was enough for us and hit the spot. Tremendous. Yep, the same one you get in the restaurant with horseradish hot enough to give the inside of your sinus' a clea scrub. Can anyone really eat one of these without crying? Of course the tears are tears of joy. They have a shrimp cocktail bar built right into the beautiful bar in this lounge. I am not kidding about the bar being beautiful. The woodworking is excellent. The lighting is perfect, And the bartenders are truly wonderful. And if you are not tolerant of shell fish don't worry there are a lot of other small plates available. Like Kobe beef sliders....yum. They have special drinks here and I encourage you to try them. The Russian Mule is served in a traditional copper mug. Yeah, you get to drink and be showy. Umm, and for classy..try the French 75. So smooth. The off menu drinks are suberb as well. I had a dirty martini and it was perfect. I wish I could learn to make them so well. Super sour because there was a half lime squeezed in it but other than that it was good. My boyfriend had the Knickerbocker. That tasted pretty good as well. It reminded me of a Shirley temple. BUT LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE SHRIMP COCKTAIL! I was NOT expecting a rush of fire running from my mouth to my eyes in that first bite.
