A beautiful and historic park with views of downtown Providence. It is located right on a hill and has the statue and tomb of Roger Williams with his hand out. There were benches and a small path throughout. A great place to picnic, watch the sunset, and just relax. The Rhode Island State House and Providence Place Mall can be seen from there. There is no parking lot just street parking. The houses nearby are historic. This was a frequent stop for author HP Lovecraft. No wonder it is called "The Jewel of the City".

On warmer days, it can get a little busy, but it's a great place to relax. When I'm need of a little reprieve I like to bring my blanket and meditate on the grass. I also appreciate its location being so close to Brown and downtown Providence simultaneously. It's convenient and peaceful.

There are a lot of shady places to sit and a lot of nice things to look at. The park itself isn't very large and there isn't much "to do" but you can read the plaques and see where the church used to be. There's a good amount of seating though so we liked using it as a respite from walking. There is a super cute garden in the back that seems a little attached to someone's house, but it is in the parking lot so you can walk right up to it.

According to legend, Lovecraft based "The Haunter of the Dark" on this original, but now gone St John's Baptist Church. The park holds many different neighborhood vendor events throughout the year, so people can reserve it for weddings, festivals, celebrations, etc.... During the night, uplighting was added to the trees to enhance the plaza nighttime ambiance and visibility. There is a Verrazzano marker here which came from the downtown Memorial Park,

I loved this riverwalk…read more As you stroll down the river, there are a lot of things to see and a good amount of nature to take in. I loved the unique bridges, all of them a different style and built in a different time. I couldn't get over just how cute some of them were and took so many pictures. The riverside feels pretty safe and was very clean. I noticed there were a lot of WaterFire fire thingies (I don't know what they are called) in the water and didn't realize the show was so large and that you could view a lot of it outside of Waterplace Park. The walk itself is easy and meanders in a nice way. It feels like an oasis away from the city. There are a lot of places to stop and sit if you want to take a rest or people watch. We stopped and sat a bench to have a drink and a snack, while we watched ducks and geese look for food. We also watched people riding gondolas float by with their charcuterie and wine.

There are a lot of concrete steps that can be used for seating and quite a lot of vantage points for the fire show. I wish we could have come here to see WaterFire, but we happened to come during a time when it was off for a few weeks. The area itself is quite pleasant, with a good amount of shade and space. There are also quite a few things to do in the area, like the riverwalk if you just want to stroll outside or the mall, which is right across the street.

Gano Park is about 10 acres in size and it includes ball fields, a soccer field, basketball courts,…read morea community garden, a dog park, and a bike path, which was installed in 2017. The community garden, built in the 1990s, marks the first community garden in a Providence park. The baseball field is home to the East Side-Fox Point Little League and the softball field was once home to the world famous fast-pitch softball team Local 57, a semi-professional team of operating engineers named for the union located on Gano Street. The mural on the ballfield was created by local artist, Jay West. Since the banks of the Seekonk River once came up to Gano Street, the park sits on land fill that the city put down in the early 20th century. The basketball court complex is named after well revered community activist, John "Johnny" Britto. Johnny devoted his life to helping the youth in the community and greater Providence, particularly through his work at the Fox Point Boys & Girls Club. It's a nice play to watch the kids play sports or just to stroll around the river, nice area....

Cabral Park is one of those Providence places that I have a bit of a soft spot for. I used to bring…read moremy nephews here when they were younger, and some of my memories of the park come from those days. It was always an easy place to bring kids when you wanted them to run around, burn off some energy, and spend a little time outside without having to make a whole production out of it. The park has definitely seen better days, though. There is a lot to like about the location and what the park can offer, but parts of it have looked worn and in need of some attention for quite a while. That's why I'm encouraged by the improvements and renovation work that have started to take shape. Providence has been putting more attention into improving its neighborhood parks, and Cabral Park is a place where that investment makes sense. What I like about neighborhood parks like this is that they don't need to be some elaborate destination. They serve the people who live nearby. Kids need somewhere to play, families need somewhere to get outside, and neighborhoods benefit enormously from having accessible green space. Cabral Park has that basic value, even when the facilities themselves could use some TLC. I have to admit that seeing improvements happening here gives me a little bit of nostalgia. I remember bringing my nephews here and watching them run around, and now I'm seeing the park enter another chapter. That's the nice thing about public spaces. They change, they get worn down, they get renovated, and eventually a new generation of kids comes along and makes their own memories there. I'm giving Cabral Park four stars because I think it has plenty of potential, but it still needs some investment and continued maintenance to really reach it. I'm hopeful that the current renovation work is the beginning of a larger transformation rather than a one-and-done effort. If Providence follows through, this could become an even better neighborhood park for the families who use it. For me, though, the place already has some history. I spent time here with my nephews years ago, and I'm glad to see the city giving the park some attention. I'll be interested to come back and see what it looks like once the work is finished.

We have a lot of great memories here, and even though we don't live nearby anymore, we still make the drive over some mornings just to get a walk in. It's one of those places that keeps drawing you back. I've always felt safe on the Boulevard. Whether I was out early in the morning, after work, or on a weekend, there's usually a steady mix of runners, walkers, cyclists, families, and people out with their dogs. It has a very comfortable, welcoming feel, and it's one of the prettiest places to get outside in Providence. The mature trees lining the path make it scenic in every season, but especially during the spring and fall. One thing I've always appreciated is how well the path is maintained. It's clean, the landscaping is kept up, and it's obvious people take pride in preserving it. Parking is also surprisingly easy. There are plenty of spots along Blackstone Boulevard itself and on the surrounding side streets, so we've never had trouble finding a place to park. The summertime is especially enjoyable. The farmers market is one of our favorite reasons to come back, and the food trucks make it easy to turn a morning walk into a fun outing. It's a great atmosphere, and there's always something going on without feeling overwhelming. If you have a dog, this is an excellent place for a walk. There's plenty of room, lots of friendly people, and it's easy to spend an hour or two just enjoying the neighborhood. Blackstone Boulevard has been part of our lives for years, first as our everyday walking path and now as a place we still make a point to visit. It's scenic, peaceful, well maintained, and one of my favorite places in Providence to get outside. Five stars without hesitation.

Newport during tourist season is not my thing, so this park is usually my go to escape if I want to head to Newport, but skip the crowds.
