yeah... not good! Billing a missed appointment fee to a customer that has been with them for a long time and has spent tens of thousands there is unacceptable for me. I did get a reminder but it was a text one month earlier. I have no other texts or voice mails. I'm old and retired so a day or two before would have prevented this. When the tech has to repeatedly remind the dentist which tooth he is supposed to be working on its time to go somewhere else

I started going to 1st Advantage when I moved to Brattleboro a few years ago. Up to that point, I'd gone my entire life without cavities, and took great care of my teeth. Consequently, I was shocked when they told me I had a cavity. Despite my suprise, I let them drill it, and suffered through the entire experience. A few appointments later, they told me I had another cavity, which really aroused my suspicions. Before letting them put me through another torture session in the chair, I decided to get a 2nd opinion. I went to a completely different dentist office, explained the situation, and asked him if I really did have a cavity. His response? No, there was no cavity, my teeth were fine. The result? I just had my regular dental cleaning done here yesterday and was a new patient with them. I had a great experience there. Pam was the hygienist that i saw and she was friendly, cheerful and knowledgable snd shared her thoughts on how best to take care of my periodontal issues in a very helpful way. The whole team at this office seemed to be working very well together and in a highly professional manner. A great dental experience. I have been three times... First time to get a cleaning. Second time to get a cleaning. Third time to see the Dentist. Every time I was more and more turned off. NOT going again. Visit 1 = I was a new patient, so I filled out the forms that I was emailed online through the link. When I arrived they said they did not have any of my forms, because no one fills them out online... At my cleaning I was not even flossed. And I could not see the dentist because my X-Rays from my previous dentist were not sent over yet. 2 Weeks After Visit 1 = I confirmed with my previous Dentist that the records were sent, and confirmed with this office that my records were received. Visit 2 = Six months later I come back. They still have not receive my X-Rays, so I still cannot see the Dentist... I was so annoyed, because I had confirmed everything was all set months ago. I was told there was a lot of turn over at the front desk. So, I called my previous Dentist before I got my teeth cleaned to ask them to send them over right away. They said they had, via (snail) mail, 6 months ago. I told this to 1st Advantage and they said oh, no one mails them... Again, I was only doing what I was told. They ended up finding them, phew. This time I had a more thorough cleaning, however it is so weird here. There is no sink to spit in. I had to hold the sucker wand thing the whole time, and was sprayed with the water wand thing and then had to put the sucker wand thing in my mouth. WTF. Then I was told there wasn't even a Dentist staffed that day, so I had to come back (take more time off of work) just to see the Dentist... Visit 3 = Saw the Dentist. It was 3 minutes of her looking at my teeth (NEVER the X-Rays that she had to have), saying I had some tiny cavities. Not sure if I believe it. I feel like they just try to sell me things here. (After each cleaning they asked if I wanted the $55 fluoride treatment (not covered by insurance), or the $10 extra fluoride tooth paste). However, when I checked out with the front desk receptionist she did not say I needed to schedule a follow-up to get the cavities filled. And I did not push because I am so over this HORRIBLE place. read more

...CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS REVIEW... June 16 2015 I woke up to a loose tooth again. Every time the tooth above it touched the loose tooth, it hurt. I did a salt water rinse.     June 17, 2015 I woke up at 3am to pain in my right jaw joint. It typically does not hurt here. It was excruciating.   It still hurt in the morning. I took an Alleve around 8am. An hour later I took another one. I did a salt rinse.   The pain extends down to the corner of my jaw. It hurts around my right eye. It is pronounced in my right ear.   I am miserable with pain.   I took two more Alleve at 11:20am. And another salt rinse.   By evening I want to die it hurts so bad. But it gets worse. Later that night it felt like a red-hot poker of pain going directly into that tooth. I took two more Aleve.     June 18, 2015 When I woke up, 95% of the pain is gone, but my face feels weird. I look at myself -- my face is swollen where the pain was.   I called another dentist -- Dr. Linda Robinson in Hadley, MA -- and described my problem. They said I should "definitely" go to the ER.   I went to the ER. After insurance, my bill was $154.83.   The ER doctor says it's maybe an abscessed tooth. He put me on antibiotics (clindamycin) and a painkiller (hydrocodone). He said that no matter what, I have to follow up with a dentist.   I called Dr. Robinson's office back. They can't get me in for a few days, but they'd like me to see my current dentist TODAY because this is "pretty serious."   Though I absolutely hated the idea of stepping foot in First Advantage Dental ever again, I knew I was out of options due to the seriousness of the problem. I called them and was told that they can get me in for an xray today and then refer me to a specialist, as "the dentist is booked until September." This is how they handle dental emergencies. But, an xray and the name of a specialist is just what I wanted.   So I went in and they took two xrays. This cost me $84.00   There is indeed an abscess. Dr. Perry pointed at my two new fillings he placed in March, saying they were "flat" and that "there was bacteria under the filling and that's what caused the abscess." He seemed oblivious to the fact that he himself placed these fillings just three months ago. Was he critiquing his work? Sure sounded like it!   We went to the front desk. He spent a long time filling out a referral slip while Belinda printed up the two xrays. Then we had this utterly bizarre conversation:   Dr. Perry: "How well do you know Keene?" Me: "I know how to get there." Dr. Perry: "Main Street?" Me: "Yes." Dr. Perry: "You know the big white church?" Me: "No, but if I have an address, I can find it." Dr. Perry: "It's easiest to just go into town and look for the big white church." Me: [I look at the referral. There are four addresses. I point to the one in Keene.] "That it?" Dr. Perry: "That's the one. If you're lucky, the dentist will be showing off. You ever see a Bentley?" Me: "Yes." Dr. Perry: "Do you have one?" Me: "Not yet." Dr. Perry: "Not yet? Are you going to get one?" Me: "Maybe." Dr. Perry: "After that procedure you'll come back here for a crown." Me: [I look at the referral again. It doesn't specify what the procedure is.] "And what procedure am I getting?" Dr. Perry: "A roooooot canal. Are you familiar with those?" Me: "Yes. I just wanted to know what was happening." Dr. Perry: "..." Me: "Bye."   I looked up the place he referred me to on yelp. They have terrible reviews. There was no way I was going to them or back to Dr. Perry.     June 20 2015 I'm a little more swollen than yesterday.     June 22, 2015 The swelling seems to be going down very slowly, or at least not getting worse. This morning, however, I noticed that my upper eyelids are a touch swollen.     June 23, 2015 I drove down to Hadley for my evaluation with the new dentist. This cost me $96.50. She performed a test and let me know that my tooth was dead.     June 25, 2015 I returned to Hadley for a root canal, which cost $1417.50. She took another xray. Since my ER visit a week ago, I had developed a second abscess under another root of the same tooth.     June 30, 2015 I returned to Hadley to be fitting for a crown. The crown costs $1337.75     July 14, 2015 I got my crown.     ***Total expenses from ER (June 18, 2015) until now (July 14, 2015): $3187.67***   ***Time spent dealing with this: Over FOUR months***   ***Pain on the Pain Rating Scale: TEN***   ***ADVICE: AVOID DR.
