I had a friend who had tried their evening menu so the breakfast was next. We walked in shortly after opening bright and early on a Sunday morning. The first thing that caught my eye was the bloody Mary bar. The morning menus are a few but powerful choices. The waiter was quickly at our table and I asked the gentleman what he had enjoyed from the breakfast menu. He told me that the flatbread was right up there with Casey's pizza. My eyes got big. "Sold" I wanted to see if it right up there with the breakfast pizza. My husband got the hash brown skillet and eggs. My girlfriend got pancakes and eggs. The waiter was great. We had the happy morning drink of Mimosa and chatted while the food came out. My husband and girlfriend enjoyed their meals I think my hubby wanted more. My flat bread: With bacon, cheese and mushrooms. It took up the whole plate and was delicious. It really did remind me of that gas station breakfast pizza that I love so much. The bacon was bigger chunks and I was full before I finished it so I shared it with my husband. For the great prices we all left full and happy. This was a great way to start the day. I came for dinner with my daughters and parents. We were seated right away and the service was good. However, the meal was not as good. The kids' spaghetti portion was hardly anything. The apple slices contained parts of the core and seeds (a huge choking hazard)! The kids' meals were $8 and definitely not worth about half of that. My mom got a chicken taco salad and paid $17 for a very small amount of food. My dad ordered a burger with onion rings; the onion rings were so undercooked he couldn't even eat them. Tried 1st & Main for a Sunday Brunch. The menu was fairly limited, but had good choices! I went with a breakfast burrito and my husband went with French toast. The breakfast burrito was phenomenal - tortilla was light, and the burrito was packed with eggs, potatoes, cheese, bacon, and green peppers. The French toast was also good - just not as crispy as I prefer, and the orangey taste was a little excessive. While visiting this establishment we felt like the service was chaotic and un-organized. Had the worst customer service I've ever had. It took around 15 to even get acknowledged when we sat down. The server was very aggressive and condescending. He never gave his name but my check says it was "Pat". The table next to me had a child who had a tablet and was bullied by the server to put his tablet away because it was his "pet peeve" for kids to have a tablet at the table. We were in town for a get away weekend and 1st & Main was just down the road from our hotel. We were very impressed with how nice and clean the bar was. The bartender and wait staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The food was FANTASTIC!! The best "bar food" I have ever had! We had beer battered onion rings and beer battered mozzarella cheese balls. These appetizers alone were a meal in itself. We also enjoyed a bacon cheese burger and a Philly cheesesteak. Both sandwiches were very delicious. Then came the beer and wine. My husband had a Stella Cider, Stella, & Angry Orchard while I had a glass of Drops of Jupiter red blend. All quite delicious. Next time we are in Dubuque we will definitely stop in for some excellent food, catch a game on one of the 6 flat screen TVs and enjoy a drink. I hope you do too. read more

First time here. First time in Dubuque. I like good old bars and the atmosphere that goes with them is why I chose this place. The reviews and pics on Yelp looked promising. As far as bar and atmosphere it was just what I was looking for. Good crowd not overcrowded and plenty of football on all the TV,s. The bartender was attentive at first and got my drink fast and took my food order. I was here for a drink or two and an appetizer. I ordered standard buffalo wings. I wasn't in any hurry but thought they took way to long to come and really after tasting them I wish they never did come. Maybe worse wings I ever had. Very tasteless and bad texture. Came with six wings. 4 drumlets which I like better however one drumlet must have come off a baby chicken. So small not sure why they put it on the plate. Only ate them 3 pieces when I just couldn't stomach any more. My bartender must have taken a break she was gone for a while. Finally waved her down to clear out. She never asked how my food was or why I didn't eat all of it. Never said thank you or anything like that when she brought my credit card receipt. Disappointed read more

We went for breakfast and they have standard fare with a few fun items like Johnny Cakes and Biscaffle with Gravy (which my son had, and he thought they were awesome). I ask all over town where is a good place to eat and they constantly come up in conversation. I had to try it, and what better than the special. I had the Turkey Burger, daily special, and was pleasantly surprised! Most of the time they are dry and flavorless, this turkey was juicy and delicious. I ordered the sweet potato fries as a side and they were also very good. I like the sea salt on the fries for that added flavor, I call it flavor crystals. I am doing Whole30 right now, and went on vacation. We stopped at this lovely little bar in Dubuque on our way home because I thought I could get something compliant. I ended up with baked chicken and asparagus. The asparagus was sooooooo good, and the chicken was pretty decent. The real standout were my friend's food. They are not doing whole30, and can thus eat whatever their heart desires. One of my friends got the Western burger, which came piled high with three onion rings. These onion rings were the biggest onion rings I have ever seen in my entire life. And they looked sooooo good, super good jealous. They came with a side of curly fried potatoes that all my friends said rocked their world. I believe they had parmesean on them as well... Whew. I know what I want when my 30 days is up! My only knock against this place is that they didn't have any local beers, and that's what my friends were trying to find. I'm very confused by the positive reviews, I was staying Dubuque for the weekend and made the mistake of trying this place twice and both visits were lousy. The service was lazy and made you feel as if you were there to interrupt their day. The food wasn't good, it was very very bland. The food looked good when it was served but holy cow it was so bland and the texture that should have been there wasn't. I would have better off going to Olive Garden or Five Guys. read more
