We were able to secure a reservation for our large group as we had alot of family coming into town for a funeral. I called them on Thursday for a Saturday night reservation and they were able to accommodate us. I ordered the Salmon entree- it came with dill sauce and a baked potato and I selected vegetable beef soup (the soup of the day). Husband ordered the NY strip with mushrooms and the garlic mashed potatoes and a house salad. You have a piece of corn bread waiting at your place setting when you arrive. They also serve dinner rolls. It's a tremendous amount of food. My daughter ordered the same thing I did except she subbed her potato for broccoli ($3 upcharge) We had a glass of wine as well. Service was quick and efficient, they had two people serving our table. Everyone received their entrées at the same time and all courses were served at once. Was very efficient and friendly. Timmerman's is one of those special locations that has managed to keep the ambience back from the 60s. I used to drive by this restaurant for years I was going from Iowa over to Chicago. It took my retiring to finally start dying dining here. It's about a 70 minute ride from Cedar rapids Iowa to this location but we do it over and over and over again. That should tell you something about how good they are. Their service is outstanding. The food is great never had a bad meal. My wife has Alzheimer's and she always enjoys the ride up in the view overlooking the river. I had to ask for tables along the outside to get the best view of the river. It was suggested I might want to make a reservation to be sure I would get one if available. We've eaten various items all over the menu you can't go wrong with anything it's all great. This is a must every time we come into the area. There's been many times we've been here several times on a trip. Their breakfast, lunch and dinner is always amazing and you'll never be disappointed. Nothing but the best cut of meat, freshest vegetables, and fresh bread and rolls brought to your table. I have gone here many times for the Sunday Brunch which is very good and not the expensive, but this time went for dinner. We walked in and were sat quickly. The server came over with a piece of cornbread which was delicious. We ordered our drinks and the mushroom appetizer. The mushrooms came out quickly and were great! Next came the salad and then our main course. I never felt rushed everything was times perfectly. It is an old time supper club which sits on large hill giving wonderful views as you eat. We picked Timmerman's to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary last Saturday and unfortunately this was a huge disappointment. While the ambiance was nice, this did not make up for my uneatable meal. My husband had Greek pork chop which was O.K. I, however, decided to order one of their specialties, chicken primavera. At best I was able to consume maybe four forkfuls. The chicken was tough and rubbery. The dish itself was very watery NOTHING like a pesto sauce and little to NO flavor. Our waitress, Rhonda, had been pleasantly chatty but upon relaying the above to her, after she asked me how my meal was, said she would pass this info on to the chef and immediately returned with our check, NOT EVEN asking us if we wanted dessert, or perhaps another drink. We did, however, observe her asking all the tables around us if they wanted dessert. Beautiful view. Food was okay , maybe a little above average. Wife and I both had steaks. Received the bill and it said 3% surcharge if not paying cash. I handed the waitress my debit card and told her it was a debit card. When she returned with the bill I noticed the surcharge was still on there. I questioned it and she said cash only and the surcharge is removed. Fine, I simply deducted the surcharge amount from her tip. Let me break this down: The service is 5 stars, the ambiance is 4 stars and the food is 3 stars, so I'll give it an average of 4 stars. This is a classic supper club, straight out of the 70s with all the good and bad. The food is hearty and hasn't changed since the 70s I suspect. It's hearty and rich and probably everything my cardiologist would advise me to avoid. In other words, yummy! The place itself is great - nicely open, with nice music and great views. We were there late, so we got a nice view of the lights, but I can only imagine what it would be like in the day or at sunset. The standout is the service. They are incredibly nice and helpful, and willing to take various customization requests. Seriously, the staff is awesome and I love them. I will definitely be back. read more

Every so often you find a place, when you least expect it, that you were not even looking for. We arrived in Dubuque, Iowa on a Sunday evening in late April. We took a drive across the river at about 4:00 in the afternoon to get a view from the Illinois side of the Mississippi River. As we navigated, we spotted a sign for Timmerman's Supper Club. We turned left and climbed a steep road taking us the bluff. There, atop that bluff, with a great view of the river, sits Timmerman's. The parking lot, at 4:00 in the afternoon, on a Sunday, had about seven or eight vehicles in it. "Well, it looks like they're open." We decided to give it a try (we love supper clubs). We were warmly greeted at the host stand and ushered to a window table overlooking the Mighty Mississippi! Our server greeted us, shared menus, specialties, recommendations, and took our drink order. My first was a Beefeater Gin with Blue Cheese Olives - yes, they have them (not always the case with many places). I followed that up with a second drink - a custom-made Old Fashioned created to my exact specification, which differed from their standard approach. So much so, that the bartender actually came to our table to insure she fully understood my order "Bourbon forward, heavy bitters, no press, with Bulliet Rye". She nailed it! For dinner, I could not resist their hand-cut New York Strip steak, medium rare, and perfectly seasoned and charred. Outstanding presentation, and the steak was a very acceptable 1 1/4-inch thickness. My wife ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu, a classic favorite from early in the history of Timmerman's and still on the menu. It deserves its spot. Chef-made, crispy, served over a white rice pilaf. Excellent flavor throughout. Here's another testament to Timmerman's as a quality place to dine - we arrived at just after 4:00 p.m. on a Sunday night, and you'd expect it to be slow since they hosted a huge Sunday Buffet that morning. Not the case. By the time we left at about 6:00 p.m., the dining room was bustling with people and nearly 70% full. Very impressive, and you could tell from the conversations with staff, that many of them were loyal, repeat diners. This is a supper club and a view you should seek to experience! After driving by Timmerman's Supper Club for several years, we finally decided to stop by and try it for a Sunday morning buffet. It was phenomenal and we are so glad we went. First of all, they do reservations which I strongly recommend since they are always busy. Second, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful from start to finish. Third, the ambiance felt like walking into an old-timey home and then upscale restaurant. And the views of the Mississippi River Basin were absolutely stunning. We were so lucky to get to sit by the window and loved the view! Fourth, the price is right! $21 for an all you can eat brunch buffet and $4 Mimosa! Can't beat that! Fifth, and most importantly, the food was delicious! I got two heaping plates of delicious food and a final apple crisp dessert. The omelet station and meat carving station were particularly popular. I've been here fir dinner before but decided to try the brunch. Glad we did. It was busy, as I assume it usually is, so we sat at the bar. The bartender was beyond attentive and helpful. Very personable guy. The buffet......OMG! They had an unbelievable amount of choices and it was all delicious. We tried several things and were not disappointed in any of them. Always love visiting supper clubs with that old-school vibe, but the atmosphere was a bit lackluster, although the view was beautiful as we were seated by a window, so that was a bonus. Our server Seth was attentive, and a nice young man. My mom and I both enjoyed the salad with the blue cheese and French dressings, the fresh warm rolls were delicious, although the complementary cornbread was was just average that was placed in front of us when we first sat down. I ordered the pork chop, which was a bit tough but the flavor was very good as it was prepared Greek style. My mom got the ribeye, and it was delicious, the au gratin potatoes were average at best, and my baked potato seemed like it was not freshly baked that day I ordered an old-fashioned and it was a bit sweet and did not have a craft cube so it watered down very quickly with the regular ice and instead of a luxardo cherry, a maraschino cherry was used, and instead of a nice peel of orange a tiny wedge was used. The prices were phenomenal. Overall, glad we went and got to experience it, although not sure if we would go back. perhaps if we did I would be a little more selective than what I ordered, requesting a craft cube if available and ensuring, I say something if things aren't right this time we just went with it as nothing was horrible just not as good as it could have been. read more

Decided to have our family Thanksgiving here with their buffet. They start taking reservations, with a deposit, 3 months ahead of time. We were on the wait list but did get called a week ago. Seating was prompt and service was good. The food was only so-so. The turkey was dry, not freshly carved slices but 1" pieces (thinking it may have been from a turkey roll). They were but in a pan, in line with the other buffet hot items. We thought the first seating would have been the freshest but unfortunately, it appears it was all set out and done too early, drying out the dishes. The macaroni salads and such were my favorite part. I kind of expected some breakfast items (brunch) but unfortunately, fruit was about the only item that could be considered that. Coffee, tea and Pepsi products were not included in the buffet price. Mimosas were available for $4. They did have a freshly carved beef and ham station. Those were delicious! The restaurant itself was okay but a bit dreary and old looking. They did have groups spread out enough that getting through the buffet wasn't much of an issue. To be honest, this meal may have curbed my enthusiasm about trying their Sunday buffets. I may try again, though, for a nice dinner out with my husband. They do have an up charge of 3% for credit, even on the deposit that unless you are in person, you can't avoid with a phone reservation. read more

THE FOOD IS SO BAD. Seriously! Nice views, nice local history. But come on! Oysters Rockefeller with oysters that taste so fishy they must have been opened for days. Very tough prime rib. I mean, it's hard to make prime rib taste bad, but they manage! Pork special is drowned in sweet sauce. Potatoes au gratin were some chef boy-ar-dee version of gummy potatoes with crappy cheese. People said you must try this lovely local Supper Club: maybe it was good fifty years ago, but today it is Expensive, with Bad Food, and Mediocre untrained waitstaff. Oh, and a ridiculous wine list. We were charged full price for everything despite sending almost all of it back. AVOID! read more

Under the old management used to be one of our favorite places to go! Unfortunately, our experiences has not been the same since the new management took over. Especially Valentines early evening! We made reservations weeks prior and even confirmed our reservations. Never were told we would have the worst seat in the house!! We arrived a few minutes early and was given a tiny table in the back by the storage closet. We asked for another table and was yelled at by the gentleman at the desk! Driving into Dubuque, I spotted a building lost in time up on a cliff, just before crossing the river into Iowa. Fascinated, we returned for dinner. I'm from Wisconsin, so my appreciation for a classic supper club is real. From the parking lot, to the lobby/waiting area and expansive dining room, I was in love. The overall mid-century vibe really did it for me. The service was more than could be expected. The hostess, server and manager were all gracious and helpful. We felt so welcome and cared for. Omg, I felt like we stepped back in time. The place reminded me of the 1950's I was waiting for the characters from Bad Men to show up. The view from this place can't be bet . You are sitting high on the bluff over looking the entire town. The food choices ranged from fish 59 chicken and beef to pork. They had it all and more. So wonderful! We didn't have a reservation but it was a Sunday late afternoon at 4pm. They welcomed us and the server ( Bri?? Can't remember her name) was wonderful! Knowledgeable, pleasant and efficient. And the view!! The setting sun was gorgeous! The food was amazing - we got the house specialty ribeye which was perfectly cooked to our request. Timmerman's Supper Club sits upon a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River to the west. The dining room is comprised of floor to ceiling windows, slanting outward toward the horizon. It would have been an amazing view of the sunset were it not for the clouds. The menu is typical of a midwest supper club. Steak takes its rightful place at the top with a choice of filet, strip, ribeye, and prime rib; there a several seafood selections, including Alaskan king crab, lobster tail, salmon, and tilapia. All entrees are served with choice of soup or salad, potatoes, and fresh fruit. I went with the 6 oz. filet mignon, which was cooked superbly to medium well, au gratin potatoes, and asparagus (an additional charge). Desert was a delicious cheesecake with caramel sauce. Whether you're new to the supper club experience or have grown up with it, Timmerman's would be a good place to visit. read more

This place has recently changed hands, the faces have changed at the maître D's desk and I think they are still trying to figure that part out. Otherwise, it seems as though everything has remained basically the same. They usually have a tasty special and the prime rib is good as well if you come on a Friday or Saturday. This is an old school, "higher-end"supper club, which has a fantastic view of the Mississippi River that you can see from pretty much any table in the place. The service is very consistent. After asking for it, finally went to the bar.And then the waitress hunted us down. I don't know that I would go back for the price.It was a $171.00 for two drink and water chestnuts wrapped in bacon appetizer and our meals.
